A high-quality b/w art print needed something a little special: a frame that would convey the same lush lines as in the drawing. Frame Central in the Pearl delivered: we tested a half-dozen mats and a dozen frames before finding the combination that made both warm and cool blacks in the image pop in subtle ways. We were so pleased with the work that we sent a photo of the framed image to the artist. Well go there again.

Plus youll be supporting a local business, unlike Pearl Frame Central who is NOT recommended with expensive art.We hope this review helps others prevent damage to their valuable art.We usually only write reviews when were overwhelmed by amazing service. In this case, we were blindsided by extremely poor, confusing, and combative responses to a simple problem.Our experience with Pearl Frame Central started off with some frustration that was not their fault -- we took a really expensive print to be framed, and discovered when unrolling it that it had been completely ruined by the shipper. Bad luck, but the artist was super generous and willing to send us another one.We returned with the second print, and as precaution the artist had us take a video of them unrolling it, just to ensure that everything was handled with care.Thats when things went wrong, and unfortunately why we have to recommend that you keep art of any value FAR away from this company.The print was unrolled by an employee who was super nice, but we noticed as soon as it was unrolled that the print had a noticeable scuff. We looked at it really closely and sent a picture to the artist, who told us the print was irrevocably damaged and shouldnt be framed. The employee told us that she wouldnt have framed it herself, it was too damaged.Were lucky that we took a video of the unrolling, since the video revealed that the scuff was very likely caused by her touching the surface of the print (see attached).Since we are not expert framers, we didnt know just how delicate digital prints are, and had put our trust in Frame Central to handle it with care. They didnt. We learned that one should NEVER touch the surface of a digital print, even with gloves. In retrospect it seems so obvious -- there was a white border around the print, and clearly that was the only part that should have been touched. But we figured it was just a mistake that they wouldnt make again if we gave them another shot.We sent an email explaining what happened. The artist was sending us a THIRD print, and absorbing the printing and shipping costs on his end. We were hoping that Frame Central could help him out by giving a discount on the frame, so we could pass it to the artist. And of course we hoped that they would unroll the third print without touching the surface (seems like a reasonable request for a frame shop).Weve attached Frame Centrals email responses, which we encourage you to read.The bottom line is that they stood by their practice of touching the surface of digital prints, blamed the artist for packaging the print improperly, and told us that in order to have them frame it, we would have to unroll it ourselves and sign a contract saying they werent liable for any damage to the print.They did offer a discount, but there was no way we were going to have them frame it at this point. We called local galleries and other frame shops and learned that this wasnt common practice at all. In fact, Frame Central was not recommended by any of the galleries, which leads us to believe they are not trusted with high end art.We asked what it would take to file an insurance claim so they could compensate the artist, and Rocky, the VP of Retail and Marketing, replied saying that insurance wasnt an option (Natalee, the store manager, previously said it was). The scuff couldnt possibly have been caused by them, because, Rocky said, The video shows clearly that the gloves touched many parts of the surface while unrolling. Kind of a weird way to argue that To suggest that we improperly handled your print just isnt factual.All we were looking for was a professional framing job, and a small discount for the artist after a valuable print was ruined. We would have been customers for life.But Rocky told us: That risk is not one that I am willing to take.I realize that my lack of willingness could ultimately cost us your business.

Frame Central Pearl District is my go to place for matting and framing for my projects. I was impressed with their friendly knowledge and willingness to share their expertise in the decision process. We brought in a painting that is priceless as a piece of artwork thats been in the family for over 50 years to be reframed, and Frame Central did a SPECTACULAR job. They helped us decide on the best type of material to use as the new frame which was much appreciated. And it looks absolutely amazing! Completely elevated and refreshed the whole look and feel of the piece. We will definitely go to them again for any future framing needs!

My experiences with Frame Central have always been excellent. It is my go-to place for framing. I have never been disappointed! Most recently, I took a frame that I had already purchased there to be made into a mirror. The frame itself had been made from scrap framing pieces. It was very inexpensive. They put in a beveled mirror, and it is wonderful. Always a quality product!

I brought in a print that needed framing that I had two other prints by the same artist framed many years ago. The staff at Frame Central took the time to find the mat that was closest to the original framing and a frame that matches as closely as possible. The result was excellent. The picture hung together look terrific. I highly recommend using Frame Central for your next framing project.

They put together two amazing pieces for me, one of which was a collage of multiple items, and both turned out gorgeous. I loved that they took the time to really examine different matting and frame options so we ended up with colors, styles, and arrangements that I really loved. They also got them done really quickly, since I needed one for an anniversary date, and stayed in touch via email when there was a potential delay issue for one frame.

We have used Frame Central Pearl twice for a total of 10 frames. They have a very nice selection of framing and matting materials, with many interesting frames the likes of which we never would have thought of. The workmanship is excellent and the jobs were completed relatively quickly. They were very nice people to work with. Well definitely use them again.

TThe staff was very patient in helping me adjust/crop the photos to get the best angle and image. They also did a beautiful job matting and framing the pictures. Recently had my school thesis work framed here. First of all, the level of knowledge that they have is impressive. Their wide selection of frames to choose from should guarantee that there is something you will like in the store, and if not, something in store to refer to if they need to order it. They performed the job efficiently and on very little short notice, and I had the framed work back sooner than expected. I cant recommend them enough. My thesis work turned out exactly as I had imagined it would.

Ill never use another frame store again!! Ian and Dennis were both FANTASTIC. I knew we were in the right place for my 180-year-old map to be properly framed and preserved when we walked in and saw Ians white gloves tucked into his apron! Both guys have tons of experience, stellar taste, and provided us with top-notch customer service. Dennis wouldnt settle on close enough, but spent an extra 10 minutes sifting through mats until he found the perfect one that added a unique touch to really set off the print in a tasteful way. We went early on a Sunday morning, and got their undivided attention for a thoughtful and helpful consultation. They even made accommodations for pricing and I was pleasantly surprised how reasonable the costs were (especially for a Pearl District location). Dont risk your valuable artwork or prints by letting a unexperienced trainee at the crafts store do your framing-- weve brought several pieces to Frame Central and are super satisfied with the results, and the excellent customer service experience. Dont forget to play tug-of-war with Luigi!

Nice selection of frames. The design associate helped me choose a frame for a custom mirror. Her advice was helpful and the mirror looks great. They also arranged delivery of the mirror.

Every member of the staff is extremely helpful. Though the prices arent the lowest in town, the service very definitely makes up for it, and I never felt as though I was being pressured into a more expensive frame. The completed job was expertly done, and Ill undoubtedly use their services again if I need framing done.

Every step of my custom framing process was a pleasure at Frame Central. All four of the employees that assisted me were so friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. The frame selection is excellent. I was able to find several midcentury modern looking options. They offer museum quality glass and acrylic among other options. I was comfortable handing over the artwork I had recently purchased, because they had me fill out a form that indicated its value and whether there was already any damage. Other shops I visited did not offer this paperwork. Frame Central stands behind their work and offers reframing if any aspect of the finished framed piece is not exactly what their customers want - even if I had just wanted a different style frame, they would have reframed it with no additional charge. I was very impressed with that assurance and felt happy spending money knowing I would definitely end up with what I wanted. When I picked up my piece, they unpackaged it, let me see and approve the finished work, advised me on how to hang it, and showed enthusiasm for the piece and my patronage. All around so professional and nice. My framed piece looks amazing. They did a stellar job. Highly highly recommend this shop for any custom framing, especially for valuable and one of a kind artwork.

My go to frame stores with multiple locations in PDX. The last thing they framed for us was a giant NW Coast Map that proudly hangs in the living room. They are careful and precise, and have never done a frame job I have not been 100% pleased to hang in my homes.

I had a photo my husband took that I wanted to give him as a birthday gift. I didnt want to spend a great deal on it so I went to Frame Central Pearl for a pre-made frame and mat. The staff helped me find an appropriate and reasonable frame. The photo, however, was sized and cut so that a standard-size mat would not work. They made a mat to fit out of remnants that also fit my budget. They would have assembled it for me while I waited, but I was short on time, so they called me when it was ready. The assembled photo looks great!I particularly appreciate the wide range of pre-made frames available and the excellent customer service.
