I have been coming here for about 10 years and its about time I leave a review. These guys and gals have consistently been fantastic in all those years. Im actually pretty surprised at the consistency. I always have lots of questions around the products Im buying and what Im going to use these for and they are very knowledgeable and always willing to help. And theres always staff available, versus going to giant hardware stores where you cant find staff to help.Here they are also relaxed. It really feels like the kind of community hardware store that you would walk into 40 years ago. A great feel.To give an example of the service, I bought some plywood from a lumber store the other day and I dont have a circular saw to cut it to what I need for this small project and its not worth buying a saw just for this one project. I called multiple lumber stores to ask him if they could cut the plywood down a few inches. They all said they couldnt cut wood for liability reasons.Finally fed up, I came to the hardware store to finally look at buying a saw. When Rick heard that I only needed to do two cuts he said to just bring in the plywood and he would cut it for me. Thats service! And thats how it used to be.I have had this experience with all the staff and the older staff have tons of knowledge that has really helped me out in numerous projects. I highly recommend buying local and doing business here.

Have had really great experiences in the past here. Today I bought and returned some heavy duty garbage bags (because they were perfumed ) and got openly mocked by the woman at the checkout to her co-worker while I was a couple feet away. Not an awesome experience. If youre going to make fun of customers, wait until theyre gone.

Moved to the neighborhood in June and have visited this place a dozen of times. Theres a specific cashier at the register (Ashleigh) who is the most foul, rude, uninterested customer service staff Ive ever seen. She is never able to answer questions, she is rude to people in line, the talks about people after theyve left. I called to comment about my experience and the owner tried to justify her behavior. Curious if it was just me I looked at other poor review: funny how theyre all 1.) Rude cashier 2.) Not open on Sunday or 3.) Bad COVID distancing. Ill just go elsewhere moving forward.

While this is a fine local hardware store, they have inexplicably chosen hours that are willfully inconvenient for many people with jobs. They arent open on Sundays (a popular home-project day), and close at 5 pm on all other days.If you are fortunate enough to be able to schedule your home improvement needs so that they only arise before 5 pm Monday through Saturday, then by all means, go to this store. The selection is good and there are plenty of helpful employees. On the other hand, if you have a normal schedule, then do yourself a favor: pick the nearest Ace or TrueValue, and make that your regular go-to hardware store, even if its a little farther away. That way, when you have a plumbing problem at 5:30, youll already be familiar with the inventory and staff at a store that has chosen to stay open at hours when normal people need to shop.

Gee...such a good idea to be closed on Sunday and in the evenings after 5 EXACTLY when those pesky customers might come around and mess up the inventory. Wouldn’t want to restock things when they’re sold, might create an extra job or two and we wouldn’t want that.Super friendly staff. Really dumb hours. Getting tired of driving to Home Depot but it’s unfortunately the only local hardware store run like an actual business.

This store gets 5 out of 5 stars when it comes to the staff and what a great little neighborhood hardware store it is. The loss of one star is only because they are not open on Sundays. It seems with all the big box stores like home Depot and everything that they would want to be open on the weekend when everyone is doing home improvement projects. I try to support them as much as I can but I go to home Depot almost every time its Sunday and I need something.otherwise great little hardware store with knowledgeable staff that are there to help you.

I kept trying to come here and ended up wondering why I continue to try to give them my money.I had a cashier harass me for buying spray paint - “I better not see this up all over the neighborhood” - even as I was buying $20 in planter pots.The last time I went in, I looked up what I wanted in advance. Asked a guy in the isle for help looking.. he spent a few minutes trying to help me. They didn’t have it, fine. He spends another ten minutes telling me how to expect google works and that I should try amazon?? Thanks, next time I’ll save the gas, covid exposure, and condescending staff and order it off amazon. Good plan guys.

You can find lots of items for do-it-yourself repairs. Extension cords, wood, concrete, paint, wood stain, even tools like saws and drills. This place is great. Good selection of relevant materials for me around the house. Its like a home depot. Some of the products sold here can be found at Fred Meyer, but this place has a wider selection for sure.

Solid selection and very helpful staff, and a great location that let you avoid trekking way out to some labyrinthine big box store. They also have dedicated on-site parking, which is a rare convenience in SE Portland.

Its great to have this Do It Best as a neighborhood resource. This is our go-go stop, whether its for basics or for specialized stuff for our old house. Friendly staff and little bags of complimentary fresh popped popcorn.

An always excellent haircut there is the reason I am in the neighborhood to begin with, and has generated business for Artifact, as well.

Do it Best Hardware on Division failed me, my partner, and every other patron today. Not only are they not enforcing the city wide mandate to wear a face covering and provide 6 ft of space in their store, they also stood by after a complaint of verbal assault from a customer with an employee witness.Shame on you Do it Best! You no longer have my support. Be assured that I will tell my partner’s story to my community and be assured my community is active and stands for social justice.

Ive been to a lot of hardware stores and this one has some of the most knowledgeable and helpful staff Ive ever come across. I was in there today to get a new handle for a pitchfork and they ground and tapped out the pins from the old broken handle for me, all I did was ask how to go about removing them. You wont get that kind of service at home depot or other big box hardware stores that are basically glorified Wal marts. The selection is great too for a relatively small and easy to browse space.I see a lot of complaints about the hours and being closed on Sundays, but I think when stores close on the early side and have days off you end up with happier, friendlier, and thus more helpful staff.

New hair cut, redwing boots, laborers international union if North America mask on vested 737 members remodeled Franklin Highschool, built new courthouse house on Hawthorne bridge and on biggest job in Portland Ritz Carlton 464 ft Pdx first 5 star hotel treat like bum and asked so you work at labor ready before she asked if i worked at labor ready i had just asked if there was union discount.

While the store location is convenient and its well organized/clean, almost everyone working here seems like they dont want to be there, dont want to help customers and want to get you in and out as quickly as possible. Ive started going elsewhere just for better service.

Love this store and the staff is friendly and helpful. Unfortunately they are unaware that a global pandemic has swept the earth and 2000 people per day are dying in the USA alone. The staff doesnt wear masks which protects customers, although most customers are wearing masks to protect them. They dont have six foot markings at check out and they dont limit the number of customers in their rather tight store. Employees regularly come right up to you when you are shopping. I usually shop there a few times a week, but will not until they get their heads out of the sand.

I had top notch customer service with my last experience there. Needed to find a replacement door latch assembly. Staff was able to refer me to the correct employee to find the part I needed. Total time in the store was probably 10 minutes tops.

Should change its name to mean street hardware- I really like to give local business my money when possible- but every time I go in either the help staff or the front register are really rude bad news. Today the help staff was good and helpful, front register super rude, wonder if they take turns on who will be nasty to customers for the day- I really am preferring the extra drive to other places rather than a little nastiness with often overpriced supplies. I should add the door knob I bought that day was dysfunctional we were unable to use it. When I returned the product the same difficult front desk and another staff were acting real weird, like I was somehow not returning the original deficient product i bought there. This is not a good place for products, service or attitude.

I may never go to home depot again!

A gentleman here helped me fix up my stroller and went well beyond the call of duty. I purchased a 26 cent part that he took time to size, locate, AND install! He even pumped up all the tires. Excellent customer service. Thank you for your extra time and effort!

Ive been going here periodically for many years, and Im always satisfied.For small fixtures, fittings, hardware, and home repair supplies this is hands down a superior choice to Home Depot or Lowes, with more helpful staff and a better selection of odds and ends such as bolts and screws.

This is literally the nicest hardware store Ive ever been in. Its like your neighborhood hardware store, but incredibly clean and well-organized. I was so impressed I even had to do an Instagram story. The gentleman at the paint counter helped me find everything I needed in the store. He knew exactly where to find the bolt I was looking for, he even guessed the right size right off the bat (whoa!) and took the time to answer all my questions. They accept Apple and Google pay. I will never go to any other hardware store for the rest of my life if I can help it!

Should be called “Do it Worst”. I recently moved to the neighborhood and try to shop local- I have visited this store many times and left empty-handed but was willing to keep coming back because I know small stores can’t carry everything. The staff is indifferent at best and often downright surly and act annoyed if I ask for help. When I had keys cut, I had to return twice to get them recut before they would work. The final straw: in the middle of a big project I called to see if they carried something specific I needed, and despite being told they did, I arrived to find they did not actually carry it. I’m frustrated with the lack of common courtesy and consideration for my time their staff showed by not actually checking. I will never shop here again.

I have been here many times since I live so nearby, but the older men who work there are in a foul mood more often than not and will make snarky comments which can sour your mood. I really hope that the owners of this place can talk to the workers to have a morale booster.For example, I was about to pay when I asked if the $5 coupon I received in the mail will show up in their system if I entered my phone number, the older male cashier replied well anyone can just come in and say that.They will also tell you that they cut mirrors but only with straight angles, meaning 90 degree edges. When I asked them to cut a mirror in straight angles, they said they dont do that, and proceeded to pantomime a square in the air several times. He proceeded to show frustration since he had a difficult time verbalizing his thoughts.I hope that this store hires knowledgeable workers with a good attitude in the future.

This store is depressing. Way over staffed that could care less about customers, unless its one of their friends. I waited for over 20 minutes for someone to help me. I kept asking this older woman, who was the cashier for help in the paint department. She looked at me like I asked her to strip down and run through the store. She called for help for other people. Ignored me, as did the 100s of other staff members. Finally a very nice young man asked me if I needed help. He helped me.Cashing out, the rude old lady, was very rude. What did I do to her?I was just trying spend money in her store. This isnt the first time Ive had a less than wonderful customer experience. Ive lived in the neighborhood for over 30 years. Its the only hardware store in the neighborhood.

Surprisingly bad customer service. Ive been here several times and Im always surprised at how cranky and unhelpful the older men are who work at this place. Example: I asked if they carried a Torx security bit and was told in a very superior tone they dont call them that. A younger woman overheard and helpfully guided me to the Torx security bits and what do you know, they DO call them that. Ill take my money the little hardware store on Hawthorne, thank you. I go there regularly and they have lots of selcction, free popcorn and the people are nice.

How a special project where I had to refabricate the handle on my oven to provide clearance for our silverware drawer in our little kitchen. Mark, an employee helped me figure out the fasteners and how to refabricator the handle. They even let me use the vice and the hacksaw in their shop. When I got back home then reinstalled it it worked perfectly. That just does not happen at any other hardware store. I am a regular customer there at Do it Best Division hardware. I almost cant wait for something else to break around the house so I can go in and hang out, get popcorn and talk to all the nice folks who work there. I highly recommend doing business with the friendly and knowledgeable staff at Do it Best Division Hardware.

Well stocked for such a small space, but the workers here make it a truly wonderful neighborhood experience. They are earnest and friendly and will diligently work with you to get you exactly what you need. In the event they do not have what youre looking for, they will recommend local stores that specialize in what you need. A rare gem, this store and staff...EXCEPT...the cashier lady with the half-baked flame tattooed on her arm. This lady is consistently rude, inept and forever snacking while fully inserting her register fingers deep inside her saliva and food-bitted mouth then acts like she is being put upon for having to check out customers!! Get rid of this lady! I guarantee you, no one likes this insolent sloth. If she remains, Im taking my significant business elsewhere.

I asked for wood working tools such as chisels, gouges and sculpting knives, this employee told me “ You must not work with wood or I would know these terms, I’m a professional ” I have always supported my local shops in town, and this shop for a almost a decade for my basic needs, yet one individual who works in the wood tools department is a nonsense old man. He profiles me almost every time because of my alternative appearance and today was the last straw. I am a pro flute maker and know what I need when I need it, this man clearly has limited education in wood working, and was down right rude and disrespectful. He actually told me to go to go to another hardware store.

This is the only hardware store in SE that has most everything. Unfortunately that includes a depressing vibe that seems to haunt the store and employees. Very functional, clean, organized. Just dont stay to long or youll find yourself staring at the utillity knife selection....

If I could give them a minus 10 I would!The OWNER profiled/judge my husband because he was wearing work clothes and just in general. He was looking for a couple of items from Channellock tools. When he walked in the OWNER asked what can I help you with. He explained she looked on the computer and they didnt have it he said thank you and looked around a little more. He came out to get money from me and headed back in. The OWNER said hes not allowed back in.He came back to the car stunned. I went in to ask why and the OWNER said it waa because he was looking around. Yes thats why because he was shopping. I said you profiled him and thats when she excorted me out. She doesnt realize we could sue her for what she did! Where not petty. We have even been in before!So DO NOT SHOP HERE! HORRIBLE PEOPLE!
