I had a wonderful experience shopping for a mattress at Portland Mattress Makers. It provides a pressure free environment that allows you to relax and test the mattresses on your own schedule. There is no sales pitch while youre laying down. The mattress speak for themselves. The prices are comparable but the quality is exceptional. I do enjoy how they are locally made as well. The delivery was on schedule (heck, even a head of schedule a bit) and it was brought up two flights of stairs. They even gave us some coffee with Portland Mattress Makers own branding Sleep Local Sip Local. I look forward to my many good nights of rest.

We had a softer version of this mattress before so we know the workmanship is outstanding. We upgraded the frame also which is much sturdier and higher. The delivery was seamless and they disposed of the old mattress for us. The new bed is beautiful. We wouldn’t buy from anyone else -locally made and top quality with great service.

Building during the pandemic is an experience Ill never forget. Everyting so expensive and unavailable, weve had to make so many compromises. I feared we would have to find something cheapo for mattresses for our new rental, but have been delighted by the service and prices from Portland Mattress Makers. We planned the timing to look for deals, and my 6 mattresses and box springs came in at such a reasonable price, I dont have to worry about the comfort of our guests. Sandy and Cassie made sure my needs were met, and found me excellent deals. We have been sending customers from our furniture business to PMM for years, based on heresay. Now I vouch for them personally - non-toxic and pleasant to work with!

We first had a mattress made for my grandparents [who were born in the late 1800s], old four poster bed which I inherited They got that bed from an even older relative. Custom order because it needed 5 x 5 cutouts in the bottom corners to fit around the bottom posts. That one change, from an old horsehair 130lb mattress, to a modern design made that beds comfort rating soar. Then a few years later, we upgraded the new 1940s box spring foundation too. Now it doesnt sag in the middle and quiver or shake, anymore, with any night time movements!Without Portland Mattress Makers, wed still be trying to deal with using an old uncomfortable sleeping platform. Instead, we now wake up well rested after a good nights sleep!If your bed needs a new custom built combo, have Portland Mattress Makers build one for you.. Custom work, done right.

We purchased a king size pillow top firm mattress a few months ago and could not be happier. The mattress is very comfortable and we love that it is able to be flipped unlike many other pillow topped mattresses. Delivery and communication with Portland Mattress Makers was exceptional. Our mattress came in a timely manner, embroidered with our name on it as they are all made to order and they took away our old mattress and box spring without cost. Highly recommend!!

I bought several “real” latex mattresses from this longtime Portland company. They are well made and comfortable. I would like to request they get the best rating for latex the Global Organic Latex Standard. That certification assures the consumer the latex isn’t polluted with any other chemicals. I used this mattress in our guest rooms only.

First of all, my track record is, that I hate shopping for anything. So, you can imagine how excited I was when my wife asked me to go with her...We went to all, and I mean, ALL of the same mattress stores you see on TV, highway signs, and the stores themselves as you travel bye. Im not going to mention names because I dont play that game.When I first walked into Portland Mattress Makers, I was surprised at how comfortable and refreshed I felt because of the atmosphere in the Portsmouth, NH store. None of the other experiences were as pleasant. I felt how that the staff there understood my needs. I didnt feel like I was even shopping. Most of all I got more mattress for my money. A much better value. I have a new life thanks to PMM. (not PMS). Everyone should occasionally sleep in a grandchilds bed -without them-to see how generous their kid has been and how well-treated the next generation is. My grandparents kept me sleeping on something from a Civil War medical ward until I went to college. But thats the Maine Coast for you; still worth it.

My boat mattress is great and still comfortable after 6 years...my mattress cover was replaced without question after it severely shrunk in the dryer...my custom sheets are perfect. This company takes pride in its work and stands behind everything they do.

The company had a lot of options to choose from, the sales people were extremely knowledgeable and nice, and most importantly, the mattress we ended up buying was outstanding. I write this review a couple of years after the purchase, and I happy to report that the mattress stills remains a high quality product that provides an excellent nights sleep! Highly recommend!!

My husband and I bought the top of the line king mattress and it is worth every penny! Not only in comfort but also in the buying experience. All mattresses are made right here in Maine and the sales staff were super informative and patient as we mattress hopped through the store. Absolutely the best mattress for the best price PLUS the best service -- anywhere. I went into the Portland store last Saturday to test out a few mattresses. The comfort and construction quality of the mattresses at Portland Mattress Makers is top-notch. We have bought our last three mattresses there and keep coming back. The salesman was attentive, courteous, knowledgeable and best of all not pushy. I then ordered a queen set a couple of days later over the phone. We needed to have the set quickly because we had out-of-town guests coming to our house later in the week (Summer in Maine!). George said no problem and had a set manufactured, delivered and set up in our guest room within 48 hours. Amazing!

App 12 years ago I bought a mattress from this company. It was their top of the line mattress. I felt, and still feel, that it is important to support local businesses. A few years ago the mattress started to get less and less comfortable. It got to the point that we could not sleep on it. About 4 months ago I examined the mattress and found that the top zips off. I removed the top, tried the mattress out again and was surprised to find that it was a little more comfortable. I called Portland Mattress Makers and left a message for the owner. I was wondering if I could have them make a new top. I never got a call back. This morning I brought the mattress top into the store. The employee told me that they did not make my mattress. Well they did, and I paid them thousands of dollars for it. I suggested that instead of telling me I did not buy my mattress from them, since that was a bold faced lie, how about telling me that the mattress part (top) I brought in does not look familiar to her and that the would look into it and get back to me. I was told that the owner would be in shortly and that he would give me a call. Again, no call. I have received better customer service from Time Warner Cable. I was hoping that I could get a new top made (it zips on) so that I could bring it to my camp and then buy a new one for home. At a minimum, I wanted to get their thoughts on my bed. Telling me that they did not make my bed was wrong and not at all helpful. I will now be buying 2-from Daly Brothers. In checking other reviews it appears that Portland Mattress Makers does not really care about Customer Service or their customers. Portland Mattress Makers does not help the Buy Local movement.

We went to the Manchester store. Our sales lady was very knowledgeable and paitient. I feel she helped us pick the proper mattress. At first, we thought we were in the Getting used to stage a bit longer then it should take before you say wow this bed is amazing. We figured we would give some more time to get used to it instead of whining and complaining. After a few months we realized its not getting any better and were finally coming to the conclusion that this bed isnt worth the 2,000 + dollars we payed for it. It should last longer then one year. Ill admit we were busy and didnt really have the time to be picking a new mattress, waiting for delivery drivers and All that goes along with getting a new bed.we got the pillow top so you cant flip it. We did rotate as directed. But it got to the point that now were sinking into the mattress like were on a water bed. This is at about a year now. We called twice to complain about this and spoke with a manger who suggested it must be the box spring. She Suggested putting a piece of plywood under the mattress. So at this point we have given up on them trying to make this right. We are bringing this 2000 dollars to the dump and starting over.

I purchased my Cal King Boothbay Combo mattress in July of 2015 and have been extremely pleased with it! I figured Id wait a 6-7 months to write my review, so that Id have enough time to really test it out. Note that over the past 16 years, Ive purchased 5 new beds from Sleepys (all higher end ones) and I dont think Ill ever go back to the huge mattress makers again after finding Portland Mattress Makers.I purchased this from the store in Portsmouth, NH and I enjoyed the no-hassle sales experience. My sales person, Catherine S. was a pleasure to work with and just let me and my partner try out the mattresses. We spent a good hour in the store and when we left, knew the mattress we wanted.Delivery was pretty quick and very professional. It occurred about a week after I purchased the mattress (as it was made to order). The delivery guys were great, very professional and were in/out in no time (and showed up on time.Sleeping on the new mattress has been wonderful. I have a Cal King platform bed and already had a slimline set of boxsprings. The first 30 days were what you would expect in getting used to a new mattress. My body and the mattress got used to each other, and its been smooth sailing since. The quality of the mattress is great! Im a 260 guy and Im getting plenty of much need support from it.When the time comes, I will have no issues purchasing from Portland Mattress Makers again, and right now, I would highly recommend them to anyone!
