Great place to find discount books. If you love to read then you know that many books fetch a high price (anywhere from 13-25 dollars on a lot of cases) but you can find a lot of unique books here for less than 5 dollars.

PLEASE do not rent books from or try to sell books to this store. They gave me no warning or reminder to return the book instead they charged $275 from my account out of nowhere.I then resold the book back to them in hopes of getting some money back, they said they’d give me $50 for it.This was 5 months ago, it has been five months since i gave the book to them and it has sold and they still have not given me my money.I was emailed saying to come in to pick up my check and when i drove there they said they have to mail the check???Horrible company that preys on the ignorance of college students

Like books? Go literally to any other bookstore. Honestly go to any towing company on the planet, it’s essentially the same thing as this book store. Buying used text books for a fraction and selling them to you for double that is a weird business as a whole anyway.Supposedly you can pay to park here privately ? All I saw was trash and a pigeon in the lot. But parking is off limits. Very weird circumstances only VCU would allow.

From the managers to the staff, the customer service here is absolutely terrible. I ordered a book with a cashier a couple of weeks ago (it was never shipped to the store). I requested the order to be canceled this past weekend (which I was told I would receive an email confirmation). I never received an email. I go in today to find out if I could get a receipt that shows the cancellation (I was basically told no). I asked when I would receive my refund. I was told I would receive it by the end of the week. The manager had an attitude and did not offer any real solutions. My suggestion to anyone reading this is to go to Virginia Book Company or Barnes and Noble if you want to receive quality service.Update: 5 business days have passed and I have not received my refund. I will be reporting your business to the Better Business Bureau. I spent $60 on a textbook that I never received a refund for. Shame on you!

Literally have a parking pass here, just so happened that my pass got ripped around the handle and fell down to my seat. They towed me anyway- this place doesnt make enough money to pay their employees so they resort to towing just about everyone. Wouldnt even recommend getting a parking pass from them.

These people can’t make any money selling books, so they have a towing company parked outside waiting to tow cars away. This is not good for tourism and is pretty crooked. At a couple hundred bucks per vehicle towed, they must be making a killing. My $2 coffee ended up costing me $135. I saw two other cars towed away in the 15 minutes waiting for a ride to the towing company. These people suck.

During my lunch break at work, I decided to go to Bookholders, found what I was looking for, but could find no cashier in plain sight. Waited a while for assistance. And, I was in a hurry because I needed to get back for a meeting. So, I decided to call the store from inside of the store and the woman who answered had a rude attitude. She stated, the store is quite busy right now, so please let me put you on hold. Honestly, I couldnt believe what I was hearing because I was the only customer in the store. After hearing her lie through her teeth, I decided this was a waste of time and left back to work: empty-handed.---- Truly, I should have read all of the reviews prior to coming into this joke of an establishment.

When selling books, only accept cash, don’t put your books on advantage with them. When you put your books on advantage, they hold your books and pay you a better price when it sells. I have received email confirmation from them that some of my books were sold but never received a check from them. I sold them when I was a freshman and now I’m a junior and still NOTHING. I’ve went in three times since then to see where my check is and they promise every time to reissue the check. BUT STILL NO CHECK. Where’s my money?

I ordered 2 books from here for this semester. While I received one of them immediately, I was told it would be a 4-7 day wait for the other book and I would be sent an email to confirm its arrival. I never got an email to confirm the arrival after waiting almost 2 weeks, and when I called to ask about the book, they told me it had been sitting on the shelf waiting for me to pick up. Super annoying, since I had to blitz read 3 chapters for a test in that class I should have had a week to study for.

DO NOT SELL YOUR BOOKS HERE.I listed my books here through their advantage program. The books sold, checks were printed and supposedly mailed to me. The checks were then cashed by someone who wasnt me months later and going on 2 years later bookholders still has no answer for me from their investigation into the stolen checks.I have a feeling someone is pocketing every few checks that dont get picked up right away rather than making them and then hoping people go away instead of waiting 2 years for a few hundred $.I have called and talked to managers both at this location and at the headquarters in College Park and they tell me every time that This sounds unusual. Ill look into it and get back to you by the end of the day. They never call back and I repeat this process every few days.If someone doesnt find my checks or reprint them in the next few weeks a small claims suit will be coming Bookholders way.I was brought in by the business model of selling the books for you and taking a cut. And it seems I have been burned by the under the table scam they seem to be running in the background. And to broke college students of all people!

I know how tempting it is to order from here since its so much cheaper than other places on campus, but dont do it. Seriously. I ordered an extremely important textbook from them three weeks ago for a very difficult class. They told me it would arrive in 4-7 business days. I just called them asking where my order was and they had no idea whatsoever. They couldnt offer any kind of estimated arrival day either. I cant even order the book from another store because I dont have the money for it. Bookholders screwed me over, and I might end up having to withdraw from this class because of them.

I wish I could leave zero stars. Please avoid this place at all costs. I took 2 books in to be sold, and they sold one at a different rate than I was told. Not only that, I never received payment for this book, and when asked about it both via phone and in person I have been given the run around. Fortunately, I was able to pick up the other book before they sold/lost it. Theyre unprofessional to say the least, and management is just as clueless as the other staff are. Save yourself the headache.

Ill make this simple. If you are a student who is looking to sell off their books you should go to Barnes&Noble or some other place. Not this establishment. Not only do you not get enough cash but you will often be offered the option to have your books sold online because they cant offer you cash at that time. They say theyll go ahead and mail you a check for a portion of the sale. What usually happens though? Your book sits around and about 6 months later you can an email saying your books havent sold so theyre pulling back their offer to give you any money for it. Did it actually sell or didnt it? I cant say for sure. But I do know if I took it just 2 blocks down the road I could have at least gotten some cash for lunch that afternoon.

If they charge your credit card you cannot exchange the book you have to return it and pay again and wait for your refund to process. Also, you can purchase your VCU scantrons from there and they offer tons of free books!!! Get your read or study on.

Possibly the worst book-buying/renting experience I’ve ever had. They spent 25 minutes looking for the book they already told me they had, and for which I already paid for. After 25 minutes of waiting there (while I had strep throat I might add) they gave up and asked for my contact info, saying that they’ll contact me later in the evening when the find the book. They (the manager) assured me that if I came back in the morning the book would be waiting for me.Never did. And never was.Next afternoon was total chaos when I got there. First off, I called ahead just to make sure I wouldn’t have to wait another 25 minutes. After being on hold while the look for the book for 8 minutes, I finally get to the store (total and complete chaos ensues). I show them that I am still on hold and explain the story. They spend another 20 minutes looking for the book only to give up and give the option of getting a more expensive one. Only, I can’t pay the difference. So now because they had to refund me the money instead of just paying the difference, I’m out another 37$ until the refund gets back to me. At the beginning of the year when I need to buy all of my books I’m out an extra 37$ because of their lies and incompetence.SAVE YOURSELF THE HASSLE. NEVER COME TO BOOKHOLDERS.

Cheapest local option for textbooks by far. Good luck selling them back here though, their system where you give them back your book and they keep it and give you money once they sell it is a rip off; the price will keep decreasing while nobody buys it and you end up with a check for 70 cents. The store itself is drab and depressing to go inside, but the service is good enough and I definitely get enough stuff there every semester to give it a positive review!

The Virginia Book Company refused to take my rented book back due to some very minor water damage. I blow dried the tiny corners of the first 20-30 pages of the book, they were 100% dry and every word was totally readable. - still the manager refused to take the book back and so I had to pay $42.00 in addition to the $30.00 rental fee I paid in August. Thanks to a cashier who worked at CBC, I learned about BookHolders. They were willing to give me $20.00, if I erased all pencil marks ( which were there when I rented it from VBC. I took the 2nd option, which was if someone bought the book I will receive a check for $40.00. It was easy to sign up and quick. I really hope my book is purchased though.

I parked in their lot one day for lunch during Spring break because they were closed and parking was shut down on Broad Street. As an instructor at VCU I thought I would go inside to get permission but like I said they were closed. The lot was pretty open so I thought why would they have Simms tow cars during this time. Well apparently BookHolders feels its necessary to have cars towed even when theyre closed. The end result was that Simms towed my car, charged me $135, the guy at the lot decided to leave for lunch when we asked to get our car out, they broke the gear in my rear differential when they towed it, and refuse to admit any wrong doing. My point is that if BookHolders hires and endorses a company like SImms, I am no longer recommending the store for text books.

I wouldnt even give them a full star. I ordered an e-book last night from VCU Bookholders around 4 pm. I received a confirmation email last night as well as one today telling me my order was ready. I arrived at the store, scanned my code and waited 25 minutes for someone to call me up - only to tell me they lost my e-book. The woman told me they had another copy for the same price and that I would be able to pay with the same card (I ordered using my moms Amex online). Neither of these things were true - the book was double the price of the book I already purchased ($17.09 vs $31.00) and since she had already refunded my previous purchase, I would not be able to use the same card. She did not apologize once for the situation, and refused to discount the other e-book to the initial price. I asked for Bookholders to eat the cost difference since they lost my already purchased textbook. She then began to search for other options online, which I was also unhappy with because she was holding a second copy in her hand that I could easily purchase for the same price at the cost of the company. She walked away before anything was resolved - I assumed to look for my copy one more time. When she returned 5 minutes later, she informed me my copy was still missing and the second copy had already been sold while I was waiting for her to return. I asked for her direct manager, she informed me that she was the manager on duty - so I requested the top managers contact information. She began to write down customer support, which I realized and asked for a THIRD time to get her managers contact information. I received an email address with no name or number. This situation is absurd, the semester begins in two days and there was zero effort made on the part of the store to remedy the situation. I will NEVER buy from Bookholders again and I will advise others to do the same. It is absurd to lose someones already purchased product and then to refuse to rectify the situation. I am extremely unhappy with the customer service I received and with the way the situation was handled. I was extremely patient until I was told the only other copy was sold literally while I was standing in the store.

Okay, let me go on to tell the world about this little atrocious venue of what they call a business. A few acquaintances of mine and I were out of town form the Richmond area and decided to grab a bite to eat at Raising Canes Chicken Fingers fast food joint, which happens to be across the street from a business called, Bookholders. It was pretty obvious that the section of the town that we were in was primarily a college town and was not a big deal. As we drove into the parking lot we notice two younger women drawling on the sidewalk with chalk like a bunch of two year old kids but, what ever they were doing was none of my business. Although, it seemed undoubtedly adolescent and will additionally add that they were employees at Bookholders. At that point I though nothing of it. So, we got something to eat and hung out at the fast food joint for no longer than thirty minuets. We walked across the street and the car that we drove in on was GONE. We had assumed that the car was towed because, as we were facing the building, we saw a sign that was not very noticeable which said, customer parking only. So, one of us ran inside to asses the situation and sure enough, they had the vehicle towed . Unfortunately, we had to get a taxi in rout to the towing company by the name of On Time Towing Inc., which the business is retained in a decrepit, unsightly white building. Now, it feels like I have to sum up my own thoughts and will remain mature as I possibly can. My question is how can you run a business while acting so unsophisticatedly and cravenly towards people? How do you expect to bring in any type of revenue by treating people so immorally and producing negative observations for the business. For example, on Google reviews, Bookholders has 1.3 stars with only five reviews. Two out of the five reviews are on the company towing peoples cars! Maybe if this business would positively promote itself, it just might have better reviews. Not being said, one day you might have the wrong persons car towed, in which they may take drastic measures into their own hands. Me personally, I wouldnt have taken it lightly what so ever! In fact, a person could even take the entire situation to small claims court, which I would have probably done and could completely devastate the small business. That is all I have.
