This place is so super cute!! My sister and I went here for brunch and the food was great. The eggs were cooked perfectly almost fried in texture but they were scrambled Im not sure but they were delicious. The pancakes and coffee were great. The service was awesome, our server was very nice and down to earth, she was patient with us since it was our first time there and she was very attentive. It does not look like much from the outside but its worth the visit!
Great place to stumble into for some good diner food late at night. Imagine a Dennys, Waffle House, or IHOP but with some really good food instead of national chain level food. Friendly servers and the few times Ive been here everything was coming out in a reasonable time. Nothing is incredible, but its all very good and I definitely plan on coming back.
I ordered a lamb gyro combo and mozzarella sticks. I ordered no tomato and extra sauce. I received a gyro with a literal pool of grease tomato chunks and rancid onions. no lettuce no sauce. the meat in the gyro was so cold in the middle I could tell it had been frozen. the cheese sticks were also cold still and no marinara sauce was given. just ketchup packets. it is advertised to have the sauce. would not recommend at all
I was actually surprised at how quiet this place was, but the veggie burger and fish sandwich were delicious! And wow! were the fries fried to perfection!!! The onion rings were a little greasy! Perfect refuel after a reallly long walk along the James
Had a lovely time here today. French toast was yummy and staff was friendly & fun! Ill definitely be making this my spot 😋
I want to celebrate Sam! She is an essential worker holding it down at the 3rd Street Diner right here in Richmond! She not only gave me great customer service and delicious food, but was just an overall just a positive ray this world needs this right now! Order food, engage in curbside pickup, and support our local restaurants! Richmond has some of the finest independent restaurants in the country and we need to keep them alive. Support people like Sam! On a secret tip, the 3rd Street diner is going to have some music tonight! If you getting off work and you need a drink and want to hear some tunes, this is the place to be!
First time eating at diner, everyone raves about not only the food but how friendly and kind the people who work there. Just had the fish sandwich was delicious. Beautiful people I side and out. The hostess was helpful and friendly. Met the chef who did a great job on my sandwich is so kind to meet and greet me that was a kind and humble gesture. Thank everyone. I really enjoyed not only the food but your hospitality.
Walk in everyone is sleepingNever offered a drinkLeft after eating still no water or nothingFood was good=1☆Sign on door says no guns allowed, Man sleeping at door was concealed carrying Im just hoping at this point I dont get food poisoning here,Im In town visiting have long trip home. Will update if need be...
4 dining, messed up every plate. Most of it was cold. Scrambled eggs were brown. Pancakes were chewy. Grits like wallpaper paste. Fried apples were watery. No refills offered on drinks. And waited 40 minutes for that. This is not a diner. Its a bar. With bar food. Very disappointed. And nobody seems to be be concerned about it.
No staff wears masks... Insanely slow for the near bottom feeder food they serve. Dont waste your time
Service was on point, it was empty, but I belive covid is to blame. The food was excilent! I had the gyro with a side of onion rings! I recommend it!
I was there for my sons wedding. The hospitality was wonderful!
Good food great service fair price.
Grubhub delivery mistakes happen all the time. Usually Grubhub just refunds the item and whoevers food it was just goes hungry. The staff(Harmony I think?) called me the second they noticed an item was left behind and then the owner personally made sure it got to us. I so appreciate a small business that goes above and beyond! (the food was also good for those who care about thats sort of thing😂)
Great place to have a drink and bite to eat
I want it breakfast, I got eggs bacon and home fries I swear theyre the best home fries I ever had
Food was Great. Customer service was phenomenal, RJ was very attentive. Tiramisu was made perfectly. The only complaint and the reason they did not receive 5 stars is the extremely small bathroom and the fact the heat Im pretty sure was not working. The thermostat read 57°(was sitting right in front of it)... the food could have been amazing if I wasnt trying to keep my hands warm.
Hey this place is actually closed, idk why google reviews still has it listed as open? did it reopen..?
Great place trying to survive in the time of covid 19 a long time Richmond landmark that probably needs our support been here forever
In town visiting for a conference and its a short walk from my hotel. First time visiting it was good. The second time it was great! Dont know whos preparing the food but major props! Much appreciated! Friendly folks and easy going.
First time going and I was very happy with the taste of the food and the portions. Def going back one night for their pony and a shot. Booths are a tad small. Can fit up to 4 but its tight, recommend you go solo or just 2 people.
Love this place. Fun, inviting atmosphere, laid back and youre treated with respect and spoken to like the girls have known each customer forever even if its their first visit! Great food! John Ball- Favorite cook, always has been. Glad to see Sam back, shes top notch customer service and lives to make her customers happy! Will def continue going!
DONT come here at night for food. I know it’s a 24-hour diner, but the service and food quality severely diminishes at night. Plus prices are hiked way way up. I’ve had great food and great customer service here before in the daytime though! Their breakfast is good and so is the angus cheddar burger!
This place really is open 24 hours! I went on MLK day, when pretty much every other place to eat had either already closed up or had strange hours. The wings were delicious, and the service was quick. Would definitely go back!
Excellent spot for late night grub. Price is solid and staff is awesome. Will return🍻
Tried this place during my personal trip to Richmond. The bartender gave pretty decent recommendations and I tried a decent Richmond IPA. The food I ate was actually great but the fries kind of tasted like they were cooked from being Frozen. The only annoying part was this other really loud gentleman that was also sitting at the bar. He seemed like he wanted to be friends with all of the employees but they seemed like they couldnt be bothered by him. Probably just a regular.
The service was pleasant and fast. The food was good and reasonably priced. Its also open 24 hours so it makes it somewhat rare in Richmond. All-in-all ... A great place for a diner.
Surprisingly good for diner food. Friendly attentive efficient waitresses. Decent beer selection. The blues station was an added bonus. Very affordable. We had a great time!
Nice little corner diner to grab a quick bite. Had breakfast here one morning.. nothing fancy but good food and portions. The service was good too, friendly staff.
A classic Diner with quick service. The food is exactly what you would expect, and the atmosphere is a comfort after a long shift. Im going back.
Really liked this place. Wait staff really friendly and efficient, music at a volume where you could have a conversation, and food really good. Definitely would go there again. Bonus features: Historic site, and open 24 hours. A winner.
Total sucks, smells, and the service is zero. Ive been sucked into giving them one more chance... never again. Dont even attempt a to go order, you may be there for hours waiting.
Look man I wanted to enjoy this but our waitress was blackout wasted, the other two girls working kept rushing past our table, and my friend got his food 45 minutes before anyone even bothered to check on why I had nothing in front of me. like I still left a tip because they seemed like they had a lot going on, but this was just ridiculous. if your employee is THAT drunk, maybe dont let her screw up customers nights - I hadnt eaten all day and I just wanted a decent meal after traveling from out of state and I thought I would get something halfway decent. instead I got to watch my friend eat a hot burger while I ended up settling for taking a cold, weakly toasted BLT back to my hotel to avoid starving. if I wasnt so mad I might have tried to find some positive about the food, but I honestly just cant find the motivation at this point 😭
Prices are a bit high. Staff is interesting. Services is good. Salad was good. I met a great lady there.
Great food great service!!
Food was great. Our server, Brittany, gave us exceptional service. Great attitudes from staff. All seem to enjoy working there. Will go again when we are back in Richmond area.
The waitress Brittany held it down as they normally are not busy on a Wednesday but since there was an event at the National the crowd went there afterwards. The food and service was great. Again kudos to Brittany
Poor service. Poor food.
I started hanging out at the 3rd Street diner years ago, while in college. I became a regular because of the great breakfast food served at 2am in the night/morning! Also, the sights/show put on there by the night people! Also, the service is surpringly top notch!!
Always have a good time at 3rd street! Good drinks and a decent menu to choose from.. All for a good price too 👍
Open 24 hours. I love going in here for a breakfast sandwich and coffee. A few times I have been here I have met neat people at the bar that were in for conferences, traveling, etc. Good atmosphere to meet people. Has a lot of locals that come back time and time again.
Love the place. I live out of state and generally make my stop when I come home and its at night when I pass through. Quaint place that I enjoy going too
Food was good but it took awhile to get the food. I ordered the pancake platter for breakfast and if you look at the menu, it clearly looks like hash browns and toast are included, but our waitress said that it was not, which was disappointing. Also 2 eggs 2 pancakes and 2 bacon for $11 is a bit much.
So this restaurant let my food sit for over 30 minutes while waiting for it to be picked up because I ordered delivery and then refused to remake the food after it had been sitting not only to me but even refused Grubhub after the agent called explaining that there had not been a driver assigned yet to pick up the meal. They could have easily remade the food but instead they said they would not remake it unless I canceled the order and re-ordered? Even though it was already paid for. I’m sure the food was probably great but I didn’t get to try it because they refused to remake the order. I know Grubhub is a third party but for 3rd St Diner to refuse to remake my COLD FOOD is ridiculous. For Customer service reasons they’ll be receiving one star.
Ive been by this place 100s of times but this was the first time I went in totally awesome atmosphere and its on the historical list. The food was great but even better was our server. The young lady was very pleasant and her attitude made the whole experience awesome.you got a try this place if you are looking for a laid back place to eat.
My lady and I stopped in this quaint diner on a mini road trip. Place has some cool history. Anyways, Renee was our server, she told us shed been there only 2 months and it didnt seem like it by the way she knew the menu and treated us like friends. She was honest with the recommendations, and very polite and attentive to us. The burger was cooked perfect, the bun was really good, the lady had chicken ceasar salad she said was moist and tender with fresh greens. Im glad we didnt judge this place by the few negative reviews because we enjoyed our experience greatly. Also, upbeat music was being played at a good volume.
Staff was funny and fun to chat with. Walking just down the street from the hotel and open at all times of night helps too! Late night munchies and drinks. Will come by for a drink whenever around.
Our first visit.. We had the place to ourselves. Menu was ok. Our club sandwich and fries was good. Waitress took good care of us. Would go back.
Luckily this is still a place you can go to after many places are closed and get a good meal. 90% of the time the staff and cooks are great, even if some of the people at the bar a whack. Every so often I get a server that is a bit odd, or a meal that is meh, but I love diner food and this place overall does a good job with that. I eat here fairly frequently...
Gyro and onion rings were great!
Great service. Friendly staff. More food than I could eat at very reasonable prices. Watch out for Houston though. Dont make eye contact or hell play harmonica for you! 😆😆😆
Breakfast food is delicious
Long wait for short staff. Overlooked twice before offered service. Never again.
Good basic breakfast which was exactly what we were looking for....service was same, goo & basic. A little slow but not too slow....
The salad good, the fried chicken was great. This place was very clean! The best part was by far the chocolate cake. This cake was some of the best I have ever have had, and at the best price!! The waitresses are all very friendly and have character. I would definitely recommend it!
Sitting in here and decided to give it a review. Decorum is a little dated and may could be little cleaner. Ordered buffalo wings which were hot, fresh and plentiful. Bacon cheeseburger was seasoned well which obviously fresh toppings and cooked medium well per my instructions. Servers were nice and attentive and I dont have any criticism of the service they provided. All in all a solid diner with very satisfying food.
Never got our food. Ordered two egg sandwiches no sides. After 30 minutes we found out that it never got made bc shift change so we left. Lewd music videos playing, good waitress though.
Terrible experience yesterday early evening. They had a single waitress Staffed and she seemed new. She messed our orders up and then lied to me and charged me for a side item which the menu clearly stated came with it. There was a fifteen minute wait between every visit to the table, and when you forget silverware, syrup for pancakes, the side that comes with the breakfast sandwich, you bring a warm beer in a cold glass, then try to tell the customer they are wrong after being a repeat customer for 3+ years this was my last attempt at this trashy place. They have decent breakfast but i will not support a place that steals from customers after failing to provide basic services. we were not brought refills for our drinks the entire hour we were their, and a table of six had each persons drink brought out intermittently every five minutes. the last person not getting their drink until 20 minutes after ordering. i also asked if they had any specials and rather than answer she told me to go check a chalkboard up front. Our waitress was one of the most indifferent servers Ive ever had. I dont expect good service at a place like 3rd st, but sub-par service or service in general would be nice.
Late night snack is definitely my thing its because of work that sometimes I get lost with time and spend late dinner. oh well this place do provide descent meal with a very fair price. Highly recommended.
When we initially walked into this diner for breakfast my husband asked if I had checked the reviews because it really appeared to be more of a bar than restaurant. It was a bar, which was open and had people drinking but we sat in a booth and got a delicious breakfast. The waitress was lovely and very attentive. The atmosphere is definitely less restaurant and more bar but it didnt take away from the meal or the wait staff.
A Richmond institution, and right of passage to those who call this town home. Great hours, good food, clean space. Staff very efficient.
Good french toast. Prompt service. Was a bit Loud cause I went Saturday morning for breakfast at 7:30 am and i guess people were there as an after party spot. Not too bad. A few beggin bums outside too.
This is a 24 hour diner and bar, serving drinks in the morning. Took some time to accommodate a family of 5. Recommend the Patty Melt for lunch not a place for big family meals or children under 12
Drinks, food & service on point. Jamies Fireball Punch....Delicious! Will be back. 💜
I stopped in late last night as a last option for something to eat and I was pleasantly surprised. I returned tonight with two friends and we all enjoyed or meal. Its much better on the inside than it looks from outside. If youre downtown Richmond late at night I recommend you give it a try, you might be surprised! It will now be a regular stop when Im in downtown Richmond late at night.
I love this diner! Super friendly waitstaff and tasty food. I visit every time Im in Richmond.Their breakfast options are great. Super hearty omelettes.
Service was very slow. For how long we waited, I expected our breakfast would be hot, it was lukewarm at best. I love hole in the wall diners, but this is one I would never visit again. The restaurant was dirty. I watched, who I presume a cook, bring out a plate of pancakes with a shaker of powdered sugar. The waitress held the plate while he garnished the plate. Powdered sugar was everywhere. The waitress attempted to sweep the powdered sugar with her shoe.
Id like to give recognition to the late night/early morning staff at 3rd street Diner, in particular the night shift manager, Kristi. I came in during a rush period with a lot of situations happening at once; Kristi went above and beyond in making sure I had my order (which was great) as well as managing several other demanding tasks. It was a great example of leadership and service, Kristi exemplified the qualities of an awesome manager and person!
Well maintained restaurant with very nice food. Waitress very cordial and polite and helpful. Nice downtown location and isnt mobbed and noisy as other restaurants. It was a fine experience and I recommend it to my friends.
Food was fast and delicious. Waitress was super friendly but a little tired. Prices are good and atmosphere is fun and relaxed. If you want a beer with your breakfast than this is the place.
Eh, its a 1970s diner with imitation maple syrup and margarin instead of butter. Pretty much like going back to 1973. And the decor and music to go with it. But they are very, very fast!
All I know is the girls that work there are either on drugs and / or overweight and unattractive. Which doesnt mean they cant tend to bar, but unfortunately for them and everyone else, they suck at that too. I wouldnt go here again for any reason. Who wants that chick with the track marks waiting on them? Like shes probably shooting up in the kitchen again, and Im sorry, but thats disgusting. Hep C is more than likely running rampant in that joint. They pass it around like a common cold but I guess thats what happens when you screw anyone for a dime bag of dope though. Sad story. But for real stay away from this place. Crawling with drugs and losers who truly do gross things behind the scenes. I have stories that most people probably dont even want to hear about. Just trust me on this one yall... Steer clear!
I came went there earlier this morning in an attempt to put warm food in my belly, to help absorb the alcohol I drank earlier that night and I did. 3rd Street Diner was recommended by a bartender at Barcode. The atmosphere was very homey and pleasant which was great for coming down from my drinking high. Food wasnt 5 star quality but it was not bad either. Also the bartender was very prompt and professional making sure that all her guests were being taken care of while she fought off the wiles of a drunken man. This place will definitely have my business again.
My favorite thing about this lil diner&bar is the sense of community. The employees make me feel welcome, the drinks are well priced, & the food is always on point. Id like to thank Shannon & Alana for making a single lady traveling alone feel comfortable and safe. :D
Interesting people, food is often not so good (stick to a burger & the crinkle cut fries). I try and go there when everywhere else is closed. Nice spot overall. I go there regularly when in town, its bigger than the food. An RVA institution.
I had a lovely time there. Arriving in downtown Richmond at night I was happy to find a place to eat that was open after 10:00PM. The ambiance is very authentic, with a friendly service. You wont be disappointed by the food if youre looking for an American Diner experience.
Food always has a weird taste. The dirtiest cooks . They will let anybody cook off the streets. My last visit a week ago I took my girlfriend there because it was the only place open due to it being late. I warned her before we walked inside. It was raining I almost slipped and fell. The floor was wet with no wet floor signs . I didnt order. She got cheese and bacon fries with blue cheese dressing. After eating the blue cheese there was what appeared to be a nose hair in the bottom of it. I had bad experiences there before but this was the worst.
Great food and service. Really nice people running the place.
Just watched the waitstaffs disgusting drunk friend do a face plant in the floor right in front of us at 1:15pm. Then get into a screaming match with another group of customers because they were concerned the had let the guy get that trashed. Management needs to get rid of everyone working today. I used to love this place. Done.
Great service! Shannon is always awesome when my fiance and I are there. The cakes are AMAZING! I always take a piece home.
Late night rendezvous at Third Street Diner. Great atmosphere and excellent comfort food. One of the few places open 24 hours that you can go to in the middle of the night..Ive been going here for years and its always a cool place to go.
Very good 👍 breakfast food. Fast, food well done an served hot.
