Staff are friendly without being pushy. Whole store is clean, organized and the items have descriptions included to give you more background about the ingredients with suggestions on how to use them. Mask is currently required to enter.

My friend and I stopped in the other day to check out what selection they had of spices as we make large quantities of homemade sausage. As soon as we stepped into the place we were harassed by a employee about a facemask and were asked to leave. I would hope to God they dont treat everyone that way. We have had our vaccinations. We were treated like garbage. As much as I would like to support a place like this oh, I cannot recommend this at all. Youll be better off to find what you were looking for at other places with better staff.

Always receive friendly service from this Penzeys location and they pack online orders very quickly. Definitely a tad more expensive than grocery store prices but well worth it, especially if you are looking for something more obscure (me searching forever for some fenugreek and finally finding it here 😭) They have great sales if you subscribe to their newsletter. I am definitely a better chef because of Penzeys!

Penzey’s had been my go to spice source and my nickel tour of Richmond to out of town guests.But the company’s recent foray into politics and insults caused me to look more critically at their business. They aren’t nearly what I wanted to believe they were. They’re variety is limited, often aged and over priced.Look elsewhere if you’re serious about spices and more open and tolerant about your politics.

I did not realize that Penzeys had gone completely contactless. When we got there the doors were locked even though we were there before closing time. I gave them a call and asked if it would be possible to place an order online and have it filled. after I was told that they could definitely do that, I was expecting to have to wait 20 to 30 minutes for my order. But the lady that I spoke to asked me my name to keep an eye out for it and I had my order in hand within 5 minutes. Probably less even. Everything in here is delicious and their customer service is on point.

I was looking for some non traditional spices and came across this place. I was so impressed with the selection and quality of their seasonings. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. They even have several sodium free blends that are incredible. Each spice has multiple size options at reasonable price points....AND they have a sample of each available to smell/taste!!! I highly recommend, not just for the odd stuff, but for everything. I will never purchase spices at the grocery store again.

Was impressed by the great selection of fresh spices. Hadnt even heard of some of them before. Also did I mention how fresh everything was? They even have little sample jars so you can smell each and every spice with your big fat nose

Easy to order online and simple curbside pick.

Its impossible NOT to find something to try in your next recipe. Ultra fresh herbs and spices. I like that they have same jars you an open to sniff and imagine how it will enhance the flavor of vegtables, fruits, meats, stews and beverages.

I always love coming into this store. Everyone is very friendly and helpful. If you have not had Penseys spices before, they are much better than you can get in the grocery store.

Obviously it has a better selection than the grocery store. The quality appears to be superior, but my dollar went a whole lot further. A whole lot. They also had some cool specials.

Great example of a store really backing its politics. Very liberal and not afraid to show it. Very compassionate people. The workers at every store are amazing and the prices are really good. They always have really good coupons that they send out an email so make sure that you join their email list.

The selection of spices they have here is amazing. I make it a point to stop by here when I come to visit family from NC. My spice racks are filled with the spices I have collected from here.

Great variety. The place smells amazing, of course. The staff are helpful and they run special promotions all the time. They even have a small coloring station for the kids so you can browse without worrying your little ones will break things.

Easy to pass, but dont. Assistant was very helpful. Looking for ceylon cinnamon to see if it lives up to its reputation. Cinnamon apparently rates its own section in the store. Wide selection of spices. If you are looking something spice, go here first.

They have spices in jars to sniff (not the spices you buy, just a sample) but be careful with the peppers! The best spices, at good prices. They are fresh and potent, so in many cases you can use less. The blends are great. Get on their emailing list to get coupons for free spices.

Penzeys Spices is a really great store. I was expecting much higher prices and was pleasantly surprised. I ended up getting several different spices including a couple of new things to try. If you park by the CVS in the giant parking lot a few blocks down, it is an easy walk to the store. Stop in and try something new.

Every time we visit Richmond we have to swing by. My girlfriend calls it the spice museum because there are so many different kinds on display. You can smell samples of the spices to see which ones strike your fancy and the helpful staff can guide you if you arent sure. They also have a mailing list and the ability to order online, both bonuses. If you travel through Richmond, do your nose a favor and swing by. And if you buy something? Your taste buds will also thank you.

There were plenty of varieties of spices. Impressed with selection and able to shop at my own pace. Checkout was easy and was made aware of some sale items that I then purchased.

They have it all: fresh aromatics; super-wide selection; staff perfectly willing to help you, but the signage is designed well enough that I usually can find everything on my own. The spices are assigned in alphabetical order, to a large extent. FAVES: Always check near the checkout, because there is often a deal near the register that is an absolute steal. There are openable jars beside nearly every spice that allow you to sniff all of the herbs (this helps when differentiating unique types of basil or cinnamon, for example).

Love this company so much! The local store here is full of helpful people who have pointed me in the right direction to so many great spice blends! They are quite knowledgeable and have helped me navigate their store. Make sure to get on their mailing list so you can get the great coupons they often have for reduced price herbs and even free stuff! For example, today, I got free French thyme, free nutmeg, and free mulling spices. I paid for a bag of Italian seasoning. I paid $6.49 for all of it!

Wonderful selection of spices. Exotic things like flavored salts and spices Ive never heard of to more everyday things like taco seasoning. Prices are not cheap, but their stuff is very good quality and theres no filler. And if you want, say, something for lamb or pork or whatever, they have things packaged like that. Also gave me a free coffee mug once, so thats nice.

This is absolutely my favorite place to get herbs and spices!! Theyre always delicious, high quality, and no more than what I would pay for a decent had at the grocery store. I also appreciate the companys values, and I feel good supporting them with my dollar.

Easily one of my favourite places in Richmond. If youre looking to kick your food up a notch, enjoy walking around the aromatic store and ending up with 6/7 things you just have to have (from much experience). Staff is incredibly knowledgeable and there are always deals going on.

All the best quality spices! Higher prices than grocery store spices but you are paying for quality. Open containers to smell flavors. Great for gifts. And they have a little spot your kids can sit and color while you shop.

Amazing little store with amazing spices. Very friendly storemanager.i found alot of salat-spices. They have some amazing blends for probably almoust every taste. I paid about 5 dollars for a small glass of spice but you just need a very small amount of the spice. So this glass will last pretty long. I LOVE the store.

The Penzey name is associated with a huge variety of seasonings that appeal to almost any cook. I love coming to this store for all their specialty products and the huge selection of every day spices they sell. I pretty much only by these things from Penzeys online or from this store.

Quirky little spice specialty store. Friendly staff and great selection. From top line items like Spanish saffron and Madagascar vanilla to kitchen essentials like peppercorns and salt.

I came in as I do every December, to buy Christmas presents. I also got myself some nutmeg and Vietnamese cinnamon. I love going around and smelling all the sample jars of spices, and Im very happy to support a company that is so outspoken in their defense of decency and social justice. Im slowly replacing everything in my spice cabinet with Penzeys.

Buy in bulk to save money, or in at least two sizes of bottles, for the worlds best quality of spices and spice mixes. Personally love the BBQ spices like 3000 blend, Northwoods, and others. You wont regret shopping Penseys for quality spices.

I love love love Penzeys spices. I have been using them for years now. Some of my best recipes have come from a Penzeys catalog. These are the only spices I use. 4S seasoned salt is my go to. All of their spices are more potent and flavorful than the typical grocery store spices. I used to subscribe to the catalog but it seems to have been replaced by email newsletters which brings me to my only complaint. The emails often advertising a free spice or other promotion has become very political. Everyone is entitled to their views and I dont want my choice of food or spices to be associated with a political opinion. I prefer to cook good food, share it with love ones and have enjoyable light hearted conversations. I resolved this problem by unsubscribing to the emails. I dont like associating food and meal times with political views. I still enjoy and love the product. If I have to miss out on a free spice or discount here or there the product is worth.
