Excellent customer service, knowledgeable staff, and great prices. Called up looking for Call of the Wild, they had a brand new copy for $5, he found it, held it, then STAYED open 20 mins after cloning time for us to pick it up. We bought a copy of The Sea Wolf as well. Well be back for sure!!
Cyclist friendly shop. Bike rack right out front, and didn’t have to hand over my belongings. Excellent. Service was great. Guy at the counter was very helpful and informative. Paperbacks seem to be at awesome prices. Some hard books I was looking at were a bit pricey, but that’s okay. The used book smell is nostalgic. Love it! Will have to come by again sometime.
Amazing customer service and prices. The perfect place to get lost in just looking at books. Would most definitely come back.
Had almost every book I was looking for at good prices. The gentleman was very helpful and even offered to order any books he didnt have. They also have an exchange deal .
I called in the other day to try and get a copy of The House of Mirth, as I only saw it online via Amazon and wanted to try and support local. I was hesitant to order a copy over the phone, but the staff member who helped me was super descriptive in how the book would come, what different price range options there were, and what I could expect. They called me a few days later when it came in and the book was in even better condition than I could have hoped for, and it was a Norton Critical edition that I had sought out. This is old-world, high class service. Would highly recommend ordering through them even though in-store shopping is currently closed.
Good place for used books. Not bad for the occasional collector items.
A great variety for a used bookstore, with very helpful and accommodating staff
Found book on their website. The first printed from 1919, at a reasonable price, and good condition. Book is priceless to me. Drive-thur pick up, great customer service!
Wonderful selection and helpful staff, great to support local!
A handsome and well ran book shop
I love this book store. I have both purchased and returned for credit books. The employees have always been very helpful. Give this bookstore a try when you are looking for something to read.
Nice used book store
Why do I have to knock and wait to see if someone opens the door... during business hours. No thanks.
Fantastic Downtown Sacramento Business. Staff is friendly & helpful They also will let one just wander to see what books are there. They are able to do special orders if what you are looking for is not on the bookshelves.
Their coffee and other treats from the little cafe inside are really good. The coffee is a little dark for my taste, but thats really a personal preference thing. Their baked goods are always really fresh and delicious. I had a spring roll with peanut sauce there once too, which seems like an odd item for a cafe inside a bookstore but it was really good!
I love this place. Its a small used and rare bookstore. They have an impressive selection of rare books. They feature many first editions, including signed editions. I love the sure amount of old leather books. They also have a large selection of popular authors of all genres. Great books on history and different regions of the world. As if thats not enough, they also have a rather impressive selection of kids books.
It is a happy place. Intimate and well organized. The employees are very knowledgeable and friendly. The trade in policy ensures a good amount turnover and diversity in titles. Amazon is convenient but you will miss the satisfaction of a cozy spot and contributing to a local business.
Wonderful bookstore! I love supporting local businesses, and this place is a great example of why. It is a comfortable place that book lovers can get lost in for hours. So - all my fellow Amazon lovers, I know its about speed and convenience because most of us have so little free time. However, I urge you to support a couple of local businesses when the items arent urgent. Books generally fall under this category, so please consider visiting Time Tested Books.Your purchases will support people in our community, with faces and names that you will learn. Ashley is a total sweetheart who is genuinely happy to help and will order a book for you if they dont have it. So, go say Hi and have a wonderful book loving time.
A great place to buy some interesting books or something different, like some old vinyl records to bring back memories of yesteryear. If you dont find what you want here they can most likely get it for you, like older, out of print books or other books hard to find. Very knowledgeable people here are happy to help you with your reading interests and you will want to come back again and again.
Wonderful selection of new, classic, and obscure books. They offer a book trading program for books you purchase here. Prices arent too bad, and I would rather pay slightly more and support a local business. The staff here are so friendly and helpful. This store is a local gem!
Knowledgeable staff. Huge selection. I love the smell of browsing the isles and thumbing through old books. So happy this store is still around and that others still enjoy a good (real) book!!
Had a special cookbook by Julia child and they had a used copy in very good condition.Service was quick and friendly.Only issue is driving downtown Sacramento makes parking somewhat difficult.(Also great vintage clothing store next door!)
Eclectic place with lots of inventory. Music also. Helpful owner. Pet friendlyKid friendly also.
I was looking for a specific cookbook. The young man at the register was very helpful and took his time understanding my request. When he found several copies available, he walked me through condition issues, print dates and other info that allowed me to make an informed decision. Kudos to this book store.
A great new and used book store with a wide selection. Had a nice local shop vibe that is sorely missing from large bookstore chains.Definitely a place to shop local!!
Love this little bookstore. The only drawback is on days when its over 105° degrees out, as they do not have air conditioning. Beyond that, its lovely.
Local bookstore used and new titles, dog friendly, nice owner, will compete as much as possible on price with Amazon so I usually try to order through them to support.
It is fascinating looking through the bookshelves and seeing what all they have. There used books every topic Ive ever researched. They have books that were on point and that I couldnt find it elsewhere.
Lovely specimen of the very endangered species - the well run independent book seller. Make David Attenborough proud, do your mind a favor, buy yourself something nice here.
Visited spring, 2018. This is a lovable old bookstore, the kind thats fast going extinct, and it deserves better. The selection is broad and eclectic, and is all (or nearly all?) used, including many old and first editions. It did quite well for my personal interests, which run mostly to natural and human history, and a glance through the philosophy and fiction sections suggested they are well-appointed as well. Prices are a bit higher than what youll find online, but the extra money is worth it to help keep Sacramento at least mildly civilized. Visit. Buy. Enjoy.
I stumbled across this little gem while taking a walk around midtown after lunch. I met Peter who I believe is one of the owners. He was very kind, and spent time recommending some great books for my 9 year old son. I absolutely love knowing this store exists, and I can tell you that the next time my son and I go looking for books, this is where were going. They have a great trade in plan too, giving a generous 50% back of what you spent towards another book. Highly recommended.
This book store has books everywhere. It could stand to have a better display as it is now competing with Kindle and the Internet. That being said, I do not have a kindle and did not want to wait for the delivery. I went here which has great hours, and got the exact book I wanted. It is a used book store but they carry new books and they are happy to order anything for you.
Cool and different book store with an amazing variety of books and records. You will not leave empty handed.
Great selection of used books. Very friendly service.
Time Tested is both figuratively and geographically at the epicenter of Sacramento bookstores. Independently run by Peter Keat, owner, and his highly knowledgeable staff this used/retail bookstore has thrived during the most recent wave of coporate bookstore takeover. This independent business has survived since its inception in 1981 so its safe to say its found its niche. Browsers, collectors, and volume readers alike are welcome. Be part of Sacramentos local happenings, and give yourself time to take it in. And it has a sweet little reading corner for children too.
Its a nice enough shop; I just think used books shouldnt cost that much. Plus, this requirement to make an appt. with the buyer so you can get credit for your books is inconvenient.
Me and my friend went yesterday and the person that took care of us was super nice to us and veryHumble. We will be back in a heartbeat .
A rare find, a real bookstore with a wide & eclectic selection. Quality used books & some new. Located in cool, midtown Sacramento.
Great little book store. Fair prices and not overbearing staff. Didnt have the books I was looking for but I will be back.
Great! Nice selection and great prices. And an excellent incentive to return.
Cool little store with some good books. Knowledgeable staff.
What a treasure this place is! This store has a huge collection of books to stoke just about any interest. I will definitely go back again. When I need to order a new book, I order it from an independent bookstore to help keep them going--instead of ordering from a huge chain bookstore or online. Its just as convenient.
Small but good selection of used books, very cool!
I am starting from 3 stars, not 1 or 5 like many people. 3 stars would be its the thing it says it is.Now as to why I had to take a star away. This isnt some garbage dump of a store. Its a used book store place. But I have to compare this place with other used stores such as thrift stores. To be fair, walking into this place, there are a ton of books. That is definitely a great thing. I went to the Sci-Fi/Fantasy section, because I am trying to complete a collection of books (that is getting way out of hand, to be honest). They had some in the series I already have, and they also had maybe 2 that I didnt have. I was pretty pumped to buy the books and add this place to my weekly stops. And then I saw the price. $4.50 for these paperbacks. There is absolutely no way in hell I am buying a used book for almost new or even ~half off the original price. These arent books that are in pristine condition. These arent even books that are super rare that they have available. There are broken spines here and there (which I absolutely refuse to buy). The other places I go for used books are thrift stores in general where you can get a paperback anywhere from $0.25 - $1.00. And more specifically I go to Goodwill that sells them for $2.00 (really $1.99). I will never buy a mass market paperback book for more than $2.00 (plus tax). The plus side with a used book store selling books for so much though, is that they probably dont have too many people with their stupid phones out scanning prices to see if they can resell, since the profit margin wouldnt be worth it for them. But at the same time, those people are rarely scanning the mass market paperbacks anyway.
AMAZING treasure in midtown. They often host book readings/signings.
A small but nice used bookstore. A lot of old stock so you wont find the latest and hottest titles but a great place to find an older book to read.
A good secondhand bookstore. Somewhat quirky selection, but I consider that a good thing. You are more likely to find something odd and interesting, rather than the particular book that you came in looking for.
Great prices, great selection, great service. My favorite bookstore in midtown by far 🖤
I love coming here - the staff are friendly and helpful, and you can trade in old books. Though in a relatively small space, they have an impressive assortment of books on every topic.
I love this little mom and pop book store. They have a good selection and a very amicable and helpful staff.
One of the best used bookstores around. Very curated collection so you dont have to sort through junk. Love this place!
This is a really great used bookstore, particularly for fiction.
Talk shelves of wonderful books. Love the typewriter display. They also give credit for used books.
Great to sit among the bookshelves and find unexpected book treasures
Great used book store, old guy running the place is super knowledgeable and store has a great vibe. Most books are cheap and come with a trade in option for half of what you paid for your next book
Great smaller used book store. Fairly strong history and cooking sections. Light new book collection.
A extensive collection curated by knowledgeable and friendly helpful staff.
Great place to get used books and cards. They always have author events in the store.
This is one of my favorite book stores from the tone I was a kid.
Talked to the owner and asked why he named the place Time Tested books? His response, I dont know. Dont waste your time here.
This is a great independent seller of new and used books, with a surprisingly eclectic selection, from literary criticism to first edition mysteries, and much more.
The best. One of the places that make Sac great. Comfortable, sitting and reading area, childrens section, rekkids, knowledgable and smart staff. Time Tested Books is to bookstores as City College Espresso Metro is to cafes.
The book prices were higher than I anticipated. The gentleman working was quite helpful and informative.
Well organized and nice to find old reads
Great service and selection
I love reading.
The atmosphere is awesome, the staff is very helpful ... I picked the wrong book ( it ended up being pretty racist in its viewpoints, because it was pretty OLD and DATED in its way of viewing African Cultures ) but ... the good part is you can bring books back and get a credit of HALF for a new book!
A good book store thats local
Very nice place to escape with a book!
Great selection of class leather bound books
A little pricey but hes gotta make a living so its all good to me.
Everything you want in an independent book store. Including the old book smell and treasures in print waiting to be found around every corner.
Friendly staff and welcoming atmosphere
Great selection of used books.
They completely messed up my order.
Call to see if book was available had 3 different types had it at front counter when I walked in as all book stores they are a bit messy. Has new and used copies available
Not real helpfull today. Hard to find what you are looking for. Now they may have been overwhelmed as it looked like they just received a truckload of used books. Will try again
Great selection, including some first editions
Best used book store in town!
Not what I expected, but I guess thats just how it goes.
Great neighborhood bookstore!
