I was a regular customer here in 2009 while I was rebuilding a ‘71 Chevy engine. I was young and didn’t know a thing about engines, and barely had a dime to begin with.Steve patiently guided me through the process for weeks on end as I kept returning for parts, and in hindsight, I barely bought any parts - maybe $500 total. He must have spent hours, days even, talking and teaching me about engines, not because I was a customer, but because he cared about the community and auto culture.Since then I’ve worked on a lot of cars and been to even more auto part stores, in just about every state in the country. No doubt Steve runs THE best auto parts store ANYWHERE. More importantly, Steve is one hell of a nice guy from a bygone era where knowledge and service are valued at a premium.If you need quality parts there’s literally no better place than Performance Racing Equipment. And if you value knowledge and service, and appreciate good people, go talk to Steve.

Always look forward to going to see Steve Tepper - hands down one of the last of the best in Salem for his knowledge of racing parts and tools and tricks of the trade. Steve is a wealth of information, whenever we visit his shop (love the 50s & 60s throwback music and classic car decor) we always learn something new.

Always got the part that I need

Steve is a smart guy, he only sells quality parts and can usually get what you need within a day if he doesn’t have it in his massive stock pile. Just do not, I repeat DO NOT, thread AN fittings together in front of him without oil’ing the threads.

Every time Ive been in there he has been very helpful. Prices can be a bit high, but he knows his stuff and usually has it there. Also good at giving advice. He can be a bit cantankerous if you dont know the right words to use, but as long as you dont mind being taught something it a bit of a gruff way, he is well worth the little extra you will pay.

Steve is the most knowledgeable person I know when it comes to engine performance.

This is the real deal hot rod parts house. They can get just about anything, but specialize in Chevy. (Im a Ford guy... and still recommend this place). :-)

I went in today for the first time. The owner helped me diagnose some problems I was having with my Honda. He quickly told me how to fix my car. He didnt try to sell me anything either. His solution worked. I would recommend going to see him first before going anywhere else.

Ive been doing business here for 35 years. He refuses to sell inferior parts and every purchase includes as much free advice as you can handle.

The Guy is a walking breathing encyclopedia! He know most things off-hand and doesnt even have to look in the catalog 90% of the time. you get the right parts, the right instructions and he always is willing to give you helpful hints about the products or the way you should approach a project.

The owner is an ass hole went in to return a part that he ordered and he ordered the wrong part he cussed me out of his store because the box of the wrong part that he ordered was dirty. He didnt want to refund the money and order the right part when he screwed up
