The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and didnt screw me over when they easily could have. They did their due diligence and made sure the work that needed to get done got done without any last minute add-ons. They had the tires I needed in stock and they did the work I needed in a short amount of time.

My husband & I took our van to NTB in July for new brake pads and rotors. Within a week the brakes were grinding and squealing/the car would shake really bad so we took it back to them and we were told everything looked fine and to just give it some time. The issue only got worse so we took it back again in august only to be told they “took everything apart and did not find an issue”. Again, the issue continued getting worse so we went back in September and my husband made them ride with him so they could hear how bad it sounded. The mechanic agreed something wasn’t right and kept the van over the weekend, but then called saying they didn’t find an issue but they put some lube on the brakes. This resolved the squealing and grinding for about 2 weeks, and then the shaking/grinding was even worse than before. Finally decided to take it to another local mechanic & they told us that the brakes and rotors were “destroyed” despite just being replaced a couple months prior. We called NTB and requested a refund for the work they did since their mechanics ruined our brakes, but we were told there’s nothing they can do and that we are lying and we ruined the brakes ourselves despite the documentation showing we had to go back three times 😂 needless to say the way this situation was handled was extremely unprofessional and honestly disgusting. After seeing other similar reviews we will definitely never be going back.

I called and was told that NTB could mount/balance tires for my 74 MG Midget. I brought everything to the store and was then told that they didnt have the equipment to do the job. Although they werent able to do the job, they did manage to drop one of my freshly painted wheels face down on the ground which chipped off some of the paint. Nice little memento to remember them by I suppose...Thompson Tire (local shop down the street) was able to get it done without any issue. My advice: take your business there.

Staff was friendly.Additional info: I made the mistake of not reading their fine print coupon for Valvoline conventional oil change ($18.99)to not including oil filter. They added the oil filter on for $12, totaling $35.12. The interesting part is how do we know they will not recommend oil filter? It seems the coupon is a good placement to lure customers in for oil change reasonable price then tack on oil filter for profits.By technically of coupon, I agree I am in the wrong for misunderstanding. I went to NTB cuz Mr. Tire was busy.I recommend Mr. Tire down the road from NTB, they have a better oil change coupon (Valvoline conventional) which the coupon has the oil filter price listed ($2.90). In the past I paid total of somewhere around total $28 ish including oil filter.In terms of marketing, it appears Mr. Tire coupon is more honest up front by letting the customer know what may happened thus affecting price.NTB marketing advertised coupon in their favor by not mentioning filter, until youre ready to pay. Will not be back. Not impressed bye Jonathan Aurand the manger. Took my truck there for brake issues. They replaced the rear brakes. A day later they overheated. They replaced the left rear caliper. Had to stand on the brakes to get it to stop. Took it back to get brakes bleed. Saw my truck shake and shift and slide off the lift they used in the bay closest to the reception area. Jonathan didnt bleed all the brakes and rounded the bleed valve of the one he didnt bleed. Brakes where still mushy and felt unsafe. Wanted $335 to fix a problem they caused. Took it back a few days later and took my dad and showed then the nick on my tire. Jonathan was very rude and called me a liar and said nothing could fall off the lifts and that I did it myself. We left after dealing with him. Still have to stand on the brakes to get it to stop.

Be careful about taking your vehicle here. They shortcut their services and it happened more than once. The first time was a oil/filter change and a tire rotation. We also had a tire that had a slow leak in it that we had them look at which was the front right tire. When we got the car back, the slow leak continued in the front right, which meant they hadnt rotated the tires. The manager apologized and everything was fine.We took the car back today for the same oil/filter change and tire rotation. I marked the tires with a marker this time and once again, the tires were not rotated. The manager gave the typical run around that there must have been confusion and then asked us to sign up for a credit card for a free oil change, which any customer can get. Nothing else was offered and we had to wait 30 minutes for the car to be properly finished.As a paying customer, the service should be done right. If they are taking short cuts on a simple tire rotation, its hard to say what other work is being halfway done.

Ive been going to this garage for years. The mechanics are knowledge, experienced and dedicated to doing the job right. Now days it refreshing to do business with someone, who cares about your vehicle and you. They want fix the problem and not drive up the bill.

I ordered tires from Tire Rack and had them delivered to the store to be installed. I was told they would call once delivered and they would schedule the service. I had not heard anything 24 hours after delivery and upon calling they said they could not find my tires. They called me 2 hours later and said they found them and scheduled the service. I drove by the business later in the day and saw the vehicle outside. I went in and waited 10 minutes and someone came out. I asked if my vehicle was done as I had not recieved a call. It was done and I went to pay. I paid the bill and as I was getting ready to leave,the cashier stated They said your vehicle did not need an alignment but they did it anyway. Guess they needed the 70 dollars more than me. Seems like if a service is not needed, they call you or just not do it. Quality of work doesnt seem to be a problem but customer service is questionable.

The guys at Salem NTB are awesome! We were traveling from Northern AL to Eastern VA and started having electrical issues. They quickly diagnosed and fixed my issue and had me on my way in no time. They were polite, respectful, friendly and easy to deal with. I am so glad they were there to help us get back on the road to Grandmas house.

Jonathan Spent time communicating with multiple parts vendors to get me the proper part at the best price even after finding the parts from a vehicle they recommended tires for me and said they were unsafe I have kids so that’s a very big deal to me and Jonathan even went the extra step and went and pick the tires up for me the same day because I was going out of town the following day! Will be a forever customer !

Had to replace tires and get an alignment done in a hurry, was headed out of town the next day. Jon and Taylor were awesome. Got the truck in and done. Back in soon after to get tires and alignment done on the car. Again the guys were awesome. Taylor went above and beyond to help me get my car fixed. Very nice to go into a shop and a guy actually listen to what I had to say. Will be going back because of Taylor!!

Have used this location many times for several vehicles. They always take the time to fully understand what I need, and the quality of their work has been excellent. Whether routine maintenance or something more serious, they have knowledgeable technicians who treat you right.

Had my car worked on at ntb the work done to my car was fantastic but the customer service not so much. Made an appointment for 8am then never heard a thing till I personally called at 12pm and talked with Taylor was told they just pulled it in to the garage and I would hear back within an hour with a quote. At 230 pm I called back and talked with Taylor again since I still had no call with a quote and he finally got me my quote. Taylor said he didn’t have a call back number but I gave it to them 3 times so no reason I wasn’t contacted and given the quote.

Great service! Taylor is always willing to answer any questions I have and the other employees are very friendly and welcoming!

CONSUMERS BEWARE!!!!!! My father went in to get his oil changed because I was unavailable when he needed it done. They “changed the oil “ ... Meaning the oil was black and they used the exact same filter we did it with last time with the sharpie mark we left from the previous install still in the exact same place. He called to try to correct the situation and was told by the manager and I quote “ I remember the truck being on the lift and we changed the filter and the oil.” Also, he told us we were mistaken and trying to get something for nothing... $28 bro like come on!! Let me clarify by being a seasoned pro on mechanics... NOTHING was done to a work truck for a blue collar working family!! These people at this location are con artists, not mechanics in any aspect and wouldn’t know the difference between wrong and right. Make the right choice and go elsewhere or dyi because they will not do what you pay them for.

I have personally never dealt with NTB until this past weekend. After using a competitor from a dealer recommendation the problem I was having was not solved. Could not even get a quote Mopar Authorized Dealer to solve the problem. John, Taylor and the guys at the Salem NTB diagnosed, proposed solutions and fixed the problem in under 24 hrs. My hat is off to these guys for an excellent job. I will be returning if I have any other needs for my car. Thank you for your service.

This place is terrible!!! Took my wifes car there and was told that they would call the next morning. Waited until noon and not a word so I called them. Was told that they hadnt even looked at the car. Wife called again at 230 and they still hadnt looked at it. I stopped by on my way home and it was in the same place. Went inside and a young man about 20 yrs old didnt even know about the car. There was no manager on site and only 2 technicians. He promised me that they would pull it in and call me. 530 my wife called again. No progress. I am having it towed to a different mechanic in the morning. Hard to believe that the Roanoke location and this place are so different in professionalism.

Please make sure you take a picture or video of your rims before they change your tires. The damage is magically not their fault.

Will not be back. My son took his truck there for a brake issue and they replaced the rear brakes without bleeding the system. To use the brakes, you had to stand on them. They sent a truck out with brakes that were not safe. Multiple trips back and still not bleed. Couldnt bleed the one wheel because they couldnt get the bleed valve unscrewed and rounded it down and then wanted to charge for a new caliper and rotor. The manager is the rudest person I have ever dealt with in service. They have a lost a loyal customer of four years.

Paid $110 for a diagnostic test that was wrong and was told it would be a $600 fix but after taking it to another shop only cost me $98 for a small fix. I wouldn’t recommend this place.

The work they did was fine, however customer service was lacking. I left my vehicle with them, so when they finished they called me. They said they called and it went straight to voicemail, but no voicemail was left? It took them almost an hour to ring me up. They tried and tried to get me checked out but had to do an end round on thier system to be able to take my payment. Not a pleasant experience.

Dont bother making an appointment online because it doesnt do any good. The past 3 times Ive been there, its been nothing but a headache. A few months ago, I called re an inspection and they told me what day the inspector would be there. I showed up first thing that morning only to be told they fired their inspector. A week ago, I made an appt for a 10 am oil change. This morning I got there at 9:40 hoping they could start it on time. I had to leave at 10:25 because they hadnt even moved it into the garage yet and I had another commitment at 11 am. Instead of replying to this, asking what you can do to fix it, how about a free oil change?

I moved to Salem 5 years ago and have been bringing all of my personal and work vehicles here ever since (total about 10 so far) and have always had a good experience. I typically work with Nate. Hes a good, honest, friendly guy with excellent customer service skills. The location is super convenient and they are open every day of the week which is a lifesaver since theres no way I could ever get my vehicles maintenanced during the week with my schedule.

Took my car in for tire rotation, alignment and state Inspection.... get a call that it was going to fail because it had the wrong lug nets on and the tire could fall off. Valid safety concern. However the previous year it was inspected by the dealership with no problems found. I had new tires put on at NTB this year which I was told installers arent trained to look for that. But the lug nuts were right at the dealership last inspection but after tire installation they are wrong. Sorry 2 +2=4. I was informed the store and service manager and state inspector were fired for shoddy work and everyone is new. I will certainly be going elsewhere from now on. Mind you there was only 10,000 miles between inspections!

Worst treatment of customers I have ever seen... would not recommend this shop if it were the last one on earth.. service techs seem good but the management and front desk staff are the worst! They will promise one thing verbally and then when it’s time to check out they will change it completely and state that it is your fault, you were not listening. Would definitely not recommend this shop to my worst enemy! Just a rip off of a shop!!

DON’T WASTE YOUR TIMEWe stopped in for an inspection sticker and was told to bring our vehicle back at 3 and we would only have one person in front of us. When we came at 3 they said there was 2 in front of us and that they don’t take appointments, yet they told callers they can make an appointment. They then told us it would be an hour’s wait. While waiting more customers came in needing an inspection sticker to which they were rude and turned away, having also telling them to bring in their vehicle at a certain time but NTB didn’t commit to once they came so they left angry (understandably). While we waited we inquired about some new tires to which they quoted us more than double the cost other stores offered, at which time their whole demeanor changed to seriously desiring to sell us tires (yeah sure we will pay double NOT).We sat at this facility for 2 hours and 10 minutes before they touched our vehicle. All in time: 2 hours and 40 minutes for a sticker-ridiculous!

Had my car in for a flat on my way back home and they were quick to help even though I needed a tire they were willing to work with me on the price and made my day so much better

My husband and I were traveling out of town moving our son back to school there at Virginia tech and NtB was the only place open on Sunday we called them and explain to them we had a rotor and caliper that was stuck spoke with john the store Manager He said if I hurry up and get there he could get it we arrived at 3:30 there were no cars in the shop He then told us after looking at the computer for a few minutes he couldn’t get the part no one had it local then my husband found the part next-door at advance So we bought the part and Took it to him and he said national tire and battery will not allow you to buy your own parts And that he wouldn’t have time to do it even though we got there at 3:30 When we first walked in he was on his cell phone and he asked us to wait a minute which set my tone completely wrong to begin with and he picked up his phone multiple times during a conversation with us To text or whatever he was was doing this was the most horrible experience at NTB He told us if we get a hotel he could help us the next day However he had to technicians doing nothing it’s still an hour and a half left to do a caliber and one rotor We told him we were trying to get back home for her daughter’s birthday We couldn’t stay in town he said well I hope it holds up until you get there and walked into the shop My husband change the park in the parking lot we were there till after dark And Never once where we asked if we needed help The manger beeped his horn when he left Never again will I come back there my husband was aggravated and I understand that there was a lot of tension in the room but it was because he felt like Jonwas Never again will I come to NTB in Salem va

I own several cars and take them here for service and inspections and couldnt be more satisfied..I am always given an appointment time and taken in within minutes of my arrival..the pricing is comparable and I have never had any complaints with the quality of the workmanship.

These guys are good. Driving over 400 miles from NC to MD i had to stop at this shop midway because i was smelling gas. They dropped the tank and replaced my fuel pump for little over $600 which is the best price for parts and labor that i have ever received. these guys also got it done in a day knowing that I was driving through. The service manager or general manager understood my situation and gave me a labor conession. seriously this helped me out and i got awsome service.

Our timing belt went out on our Nissan, and what we feared would be the end of our car was brought back to life by these guys. This place is a colossal joke.I had people tell me time and time again, dont go there theyre rude and extremely unprofessional. The few experiences I had I always advocated for them and said they were awesome.I finally got the true experience of this joke.Turns out if youre not spending, their kindness goes away.Went to get an inspection. Store manager checks me in, dealt with him before, nice enough guy.Failed for rear brakes. Okay no problem, I looked at them they definiately needed to be changed.When I told the store manager I would take it home and replace them myself his charm quickly disappeared.Got an attitude and said well then you understand you can only drive this home and to get it reinspected blah blah.I left and replaced them came back for a reinspection at which time the guy checking me in says Ill get it right in no problem.Goes out to the garage and talks to the decaying old man doing the inspections who was also rude enough at my earlier visit, then the guy comes back and says actually itll be around 2 hours.If you dont drop money for them to fix it. Then dont expect any form of kindness from this place. Last time Ill be here, and of course Ill join tall those saying just how terrible this place is to go.

Took my car here for an oil change... they ended up putting the wrong oil in my car, took it back the next day to have it fixed and when they pulled it around front after fixing it there was an awful chip in my paint on the driver side door. I highly do not recommend this place.

These guys are always accommodating, go over and above to help, and they get you in and out as fast as possible.

Went for VA inspection, found that rotors were 0.09 inches too thin. Quoted me $302 just to change the front rotors (not the pads too.) Rotors were quoted at $87.99 a piece! After they PASTED the rejection sticker in my windshield, I went to Napa, bought the parts (pads too) and installed them for just under $130. (Rotors were $37 each, not $87!)Also, wifes Explorers ball joints were bad. Quoted $555 to fix. Went home and got three quotes from 3 different mechanics in the $320 - $365 range. Just saying, theres probably a better price out there. Wouldnt trust these crooks with my wheel barrow! I wont go back!

Call it what you want in TB Merchant its the same I drove up there to see if they would tighten down a bolt on a shock and they told me the corporate policy wouldnt let him do it. Its just a bolt on a shock I mean how much easier could have been thats the problem with places like that theres no small town feel. He actually told me to go to someone else that was more likely to do it. Which is a small town shop so thats exactly what Im going to do is go to a small town shop and let them do it and give them 20 bucks. They probably wont even charge for it and its a shame that your company would tell you to go somewhere else to do something as easy as tightening a bolt. Im finding out as more and more these corporate shops come into town theyre not going to do anything unless its worth money. I like the mechanics that do something small for you now so that youll come back to them when you need something large done because you trust them. I stopped going to Merchant because they kept making mistakes on my cars and they just were not what you expect them to be and then in NTB comes in and it still the same thing.

I have been extremely pleased with the service offered by Merchants Tire in Salem, VA. My fiancée and I have done business with both Deno and Sean. They handle all own oil changes,tire rotations and tire replacements and we can always count on prompt, professional and affordable service. Last week they repaired an oil leak in my engine compartment requiring cleaning, dye addition and subsequent analysis. They found the leak and fixed it promptly.I would encourage you to give them a try.

Needed a 4-wheel alignment and had limited time. The team ran the check promptly and then completed the work on a Sunday afternoon while it was busy.

Im convinced that their integrity has won another loyal customer.Thank you so much, NTB!!!Had to subtract a star..when I called Monday about inspections, I was told no appt.needed..come in Wed.Got there at 9ish, only to be told to come back between 4 & 7.I went to Dominion Service..got it all taken care of in less than an hour.

These guys are WONDERFUL!!! I was traveling home from the Roanoke, VA area this past Sunday 8/27/2017. I was going down a back road and hit a rough spot in the road which ended up puncturing my tire, leaving me stranded 4 hours from home with work in the morning and my fiancé with school at 8 am as well on a Sunday at 5 PM. With it being 5 oclock, I found only a few places open while waiting on the tow truck. I called Merchants and spoke with Steve Wooldridge. I told him my situation, and told him I would be close on time and didnt know for sure if I would make it in time or not. He told me to go ahead and come in, and when I finally got the truck loaded it was about 5 till and we were 20 miles out. I called Steve back and he told me to come on in and he would stick around for me along with one of his employees, Clay Blackwell. When I arrived, I was 15 minutes after closing time. The other places I called told me if I wasnt through the door they wouldnt service me. These guys were waiting for me, and Clay helped me pull my car on some boards since it is so low you can barely get a jack under it. They turned their compressors back on, and prepared everything and helped me remove, change, mount, and balance a replacement tire so I could get back on the road. They saved me hundreds of dollars for a hotel, not to mention me missing work and my fiancé missing both school and work. On top of that, they were extremely pleasant throughout the entire experience. These guys both are top notch employees who went above and beyond, and are an example of what makes people choose their place of business. You cant go wrong with people and service like this. They also recommended us a great little local restaurant which we really enjoyed. Thanks again guys, you both deserve a raise!!! -Shane and Rachel

Took my car to NTB for an oil change and have ended up with a trip to the dealership for diagnostics and a fee of 95.00 . After I left NTB from having the oil changed I noticed a noise coming from my car. I thought it may have been a muffler or exhaust issue, so I took my car to the dealership as I have a warranty. The dealership had my car for 3 days looking for the issue. Come to find out the issue was that the air filter had not been seated back into my car correctly during the oil change and that was were the noise was coming from. The dealership charged me 95.00 as this was not covered under my warranty. I called NTB on Thursday 7/12/18 in the evening and spoke to the service manager. He was very rude, told me my story was suspicious and called me contentious. He refused to give me the name of the district manager. The service manager asked me if I knew for a fact that they even looked at the air filter during the oil change. I told him yes I knew for a fact that the air filter had been handled during the oil change. He then wanted to know how I knew that because customers are not allowed to watch having their car worked on. I guess he thought I was lying, but what he didnt know was that when I picked up our car from having the oil change, the service tech came out to the parking lot because the cabin air filter had been put in backwards and they needed to fix it. I have called the corporate office and I am hoping they will handle this issue. I will never do business with NTB again. I will make sure to use word of mouth to discourage others from using NTB on West Main St in Salem. My hope is that I am refunded the money I spent on the oil change (55.00) and reimbursed the 95.00 that I have paid to the dealership. I have been inconvenienced and without my car for 3 days all due to an oil change. Errors and mistakes happen and anything can be remedied, but customer service has to be the cornerstone in order to find the solution. NTB in Salem has missed the mark.John with NTB in the Salem office called and apologized. He took full accountability for the error and reimbursed me in full for the bill at the dealership plus the amount I paid for the oil change. John was professional and handled the issue swiftly. I will give NTB another chance because of John. Thank you!

Words cannot describe how above and beyond exceptional service we received at NTB on the Sunday of July 4 weekend. We were rescued by the good people of NTB tire and service on Main Street in Salem VA while making a car trip from Florida to New York over the July 4 weekend. The nightmare scenario was that we were in what we thought was a wonderful BMW SUV with our dog heading from Florida to New York. We had no idea that the run-flat tires on our car did not come with a spare tire as well. Unreal! Run-flat tires are fine unless you get two gashes in them like we did and then ours only held air for 10 miles at a clip while on the highway. We were 500 miles from our destination.. We were in a royal mess! We called 5 tire centers from the road and none of them stocked a 19 inch tire. Finally we spoke to a really helpful lady named Carol at NTB’s other store in VA who checked inventories and referred us to the Salem NTB. We spoke to the manager Nate and he said definitely come on in and we will help you out. We are dog friendly so feel free to bring your dog inside. What a relief as it was a scorching 95° day! As I mentioned, finding a 19 inch tire in stock without a special order is like a finding a needle in a haystack. Nate located one but as luck would have it, of course it was not at their location. Nate could not leave the store but arranged for a very kind friend of his to drive all the way to another location to pick up our 19 inch tire, bring it back to the Main street location so they could get us on our way back enroute to New York. The gentleman Tommy (who was also a customer of theirs) went and picked up the tire and could not have been any more kind and accommodating. This is the caliber of people you are dealing with at this tire center. The tire technician got the job done well and pronto and fairly priced and it was a perfectly executed effort by a lot of good people at this NTB. Great service and terrible communication. 19 hours after work was done, no notification was received.

I went in for a puote on a set of tires and found them much lower than Firestones price for the same equivalent tire

False advertising. Said they match prices.I took written quote in and they said they could not go that low. I will not go back!

They got me in quickly and replaced my damaged tire. Only comment is they did not reset my pressure on the dash.

If there was no star I would give this place it. This is the worst service area around. Horrible prices, terrible service and they obviously cant tell time due to the fact they said it would be an hour to do my tires and turned into 2 1/2 hours. Never come here go anywhere else. SAVE YOURSELVES THE HASSLE!!!!
