It used to be a good place when it was called “Refill”. Now the quality of food and ambiance are terrible. They keep the same menu that “Refill” had, but food is made badly and everything is served in disposable plastic. The place lost its coiziness and good taste. Couldn’t finish that weird crepe at the picture
I eat out too much in San Diego, and I can safely say that some places can make good food, and other places make good food that I will remember and CRAVE at later times. The avodaco toast here is one of the things I crave, even if my own avocado toast is bomb.Their coffee is much better than one of the two places across the street as well. Before I stopped eating animal products so much, I found their sriracha crepe absolutely to-die-for. They also serve alcohol for some reason, although Ive never wanted to try any during the hours they are open.
Nice indoor / outdoor spot for coffee or lunch and beer. The coffee is phenomenal and the patio is dog friendly. They also play sports on the tv if you want to catch a game.
Coffees are always good. Avocado toast is delicious and big. Although I do feel that California over charges on avocado toast 🤷 The online pictures on Google are not what it looks like now; Im not sure why? The atmosphere is very quiet and calm. Also I think one of the online menus said blended cold brew which they do not have.
Great coffee, good food, way too much plastic. If it werent for so much plastic I would give the place five stars. The service is friendly and competent. The coffee was excellent. The avocado toast was particularly tasty. But why must all of the food be offered in plastic clam shells? How about served on a biodegradable styrofoam plate? And EACH sandwich is brought with a plastic wrapped batch of three utensils. Such a waste. Still I would come back for the coffee. You can do better Hob!
The food was delicious we had a breakfast sandwich with turkey, bacon, avocado, cheese. I added an egg. The people here are really friendly patient and warm
Try the Mango mimosa when ur hung over. Saves the day. (*They blend it, weird... But delish)Solid coffee and HUGE food portions. Good too.
I ordered through Uber Eats and only got my drink. I talked to the driver and he explained to me that the person at the counter said it wasn’t in my order. He showed me on his phone that it was indeed there and he asked about it but was “corrected” by the person working there. Now I’m sitting here all hangry and s#!t.
A fantastic place to come bring your computer and grab some food and coffee and do work!! I got a crepe and it was so so good and I feel like i found a gem! So excited to keep coming here and to get some work done
This coffee shop has taken over the space formerly occupied by Refill. It is a big step down compared to Refill, which was one of the more stylish coffeeshops in the hood. The new owner inexplicably got rid of the blue chairs which matched the decor (what youll see on the photos posted here) and replaced them with less attractive metal chairs. For some reason they allow the place to always look trashy. An equipment cart that should be stored in the back is instead out front, apparently to block access behind the counter (why?). The former condiment shelf is now covered with buckets and trash. Amazon boxes are piled under the seats. The previous tasteful artworks have been replaced with garish posters and big screen TVs showing lousy TV shows - today Judge Judy with the sound off. On the plus side, they have terrific beer specials for happy hour.
Hidden gem, it looks expensive and it is quite pricey but its totally worth it. Youll get things there that you have and thought it anywhere else the stores nearby. Highly recommend the Black Mamba if you like cold coffee.
Awesome place amazing customer service and fresh roasted coffee ☕☕☕ what is there not to like.
Awesome layout and atmosphere. Quick service. I enjoyed the crepe! Will return to try different coffee options.
Wow so we ordered the chagaccino with oat milk and oh my goodness. 1. I have never seen anyone foam oat milk so well. It looked like a real cappuccino. 2. The flavors blended so perfectly together. I loved the idea but was really nervous about the cinnamon. I usually find it to be a little too intense in a coffee drink. Nope, this was seriously magical. It’s a little pricey, and we did have to ask to have a new one made because it wasn’t very hot at first but they were super sweet and understanding and didn’t make me feel like the Karen I thought I was being 😅 I usually avoid modern style coffee shops because I think (like with a bar) the older and sketchier the shop, usually the better. This place definitely surprised us though.
Rediculously good happy hour. Maybe tje best in the entire city.
A bit sterile because of the newness of the building but coffee was good and the choice of indoor or outdoor seating was great.
Oh my goodness! In San Diego there are so many great coffee ☕️ shops, but Refill is my favorite. Staff, area to work (which unfortunately is currently shut down, but such great space!), and delicious coffee. So so happy 😁 with service and product!!Thanks for making great coffee ☕️ Refill!
Nice atmosphere, great location, and awesome customer service. Had an almond chai tea and bacon, egg, spinach savory crepe and both were delicious. They were very kind with accommodating allergies. My mom had the apple and caramel sweet crepe and thought it was too sweet for her taste.Power outlets and reliable wi-fi available.
Croissants are perfect and flaky. The brie & fig jam croissant sandwich is SO good that Ive ordered it twice in one weekend. Highly, highly recommend
Cool vibe and amazing music. I had the iced coffee which was great.
Love this place! Their coffee and food are DELICIOUS and the staff is so nice
Typical covid dining takeout experience. $24 for two barely filling, but good, crepes and a small coffee. Flimsy to go eating utensils. I would definitely give this place another try for sit down dining when things go back to normal.
Almond latte was foamed to the right level of milk density, and wasnt watery. The breakfast dish I ordered left a lot to be desired: the egg, avocado, sriracha and cream cheese crepe. The combination of flavours (in particular, the hot sauce) just didnt work. The hot sauce is so overpowering you cant taste anything else. The avocado isnt blended within the crepe, but rather a tiny portion on the side. The egg is baked and hard (I think a runny yolk would work better, and add more flavour). Thumbs down for this dish, thumbs up for the coffee.
The best coffee I had in forever, almost perfect.
Tasty breve latte. Dog friendly.
I love this place so you better keep supporting it so it survives covid and never goes away
Great coffee friendly staff
Burnt microwaved eggs. yay.
Stopped here our first day in San Diego & proceeded to start EVERY day of our trip at Refill. Iced mocha was delicious & the mimosa slushies start vacation days off RIGHT!! 🙌 A must go if staying in San Diego around the Balboa Park area.
Here is the latest victim of the Sour Coffee Trend! Yes, they will hide behind terms like Lighter Brew or Fruit Forward Acidity but the bottom line is that the coffee is sour. Dont get me wrong, Im always among the first to experiment and attempt tweaks with anything thats food or drink, but as much as I like trying new things, one thing in espresso culture seems to remain constant - the classic Italian espresso roast. As this could be a very long discussion, well leave it to the specialized forums. Ill just say that I prefer to enjoy a tasty balanced coffee instead of tearing from acidity just so I can be fashionable.Tried a few different things here: 1) Breve Macchiato - very acidic. 2) Cortado - the acidity is diluted with much more milk, which makes it downright watery and bland 3) 2 different types of cold brew - Ethiopian (more fruitiness in the acidity, so more tolerable) and Tanzanian, which was very straightforward.Refill uses coffee from Bird Rock roasters and they have a variety of blends, so maybe simply offer a lower acidity option as an option for patrons. Just putting that out there...On to the food. Proof that two good things dont make a great one was my savory crepe breakfast. The menu described it as a crepe with egg, ham and Gruyere cheese. Somehow I missed the fact that there is also hummus in it. I love me some good hummus and as hummus goes, this one is pretty good but believe you me, the combo between the Swiss classic and the Middle Eastern standard is, well...underwhelming.The paradox was continued in the crepe that my buddy Krash ordered, which had so much salty, smoky bacon that nothing else could be tasted in this otherwise beautiful plate of food. OK, I understand the temptation to give your customers more for their money, but here in the Land of Plenty sometimes less is more. This is one of those cases. In conclusion, may I suggest that the hummus be offered as a side, and let the final user decide where to put it? Further, please reduce by half the amount of Gruyere in this recipe; add some Bechamel if you think there should be sauce in it - it will probably be a better compliment to the cheese and ham than the hummus. Ditto for the bacon. All in all Refill is a lovely place and with very little adjustments it could be Great! Will check back in a month or so.A year later: Either coffee has improved or Im getting used to the lighter roasts with higher acidity. I like the coffee a bit more than initially, so Im changing my rating from 3 to 4 out of 5. Avo toast with truffle oil doesnt hurt either. I wish they would have it on whole grain toast but lets be realistic - people love white bread.
Very nice place to have great coffee.
Wanted to just go somewhere so my daughters and I could have pleasant moment to chat laugh and wind down. We loved it! The hipster music, tea and usb outlets were all they needed. Had the goat cheese salad. Awesomeness! Prices extra awesome!!Sometimes you have to show them calming experiences to unwind at. This will be my runaway whoosaa shake it off spot.
The coffee and snack were good, but its difficult to find if you havent been there before (needs more signage) *wouldnt hurt to provide a few more customer-service smiles, either
Great little place with coffee, sandwiches, and small bites. It was a nice place to sit for a bit and work on the computer. Most of the indoor tables have an outlet. The patio seating is nice if you dont need power. Ill definitely be back.
Very chill space tucked away off park parking can be limited since its street parking. Theres an alright size menu but they have beer and a decent selection for a cafe limited seating but theres also out door seating. Good place to do some quick studying
Best avocado toast in town. Love the brie fig bacon crepes. Coffee is amazeballs. And my cat loves the bag!
Looking forward to them expanding out the HOB menu from Refill. Will be back soon.
Cool place best part is open are as well as electricity
Cute crepe place!! Sweet and savory crepes available with a delicious selection of beverages to pair! Open and bright atmosphere and a genuine staff. Trinkets available for sales to take a piece home.
Coffee is great and service is usually pretty quick, but I almost always miss when they announce my drink is ready and end up waiting way longer then I have to. The plexiglass barriers theyve set up for covid make it really hard to hear when your drink is ready.
This is one of my favorite places to work so please dont fill all of the seats 🙏😉The outdoor seating to me is where its at. A great way to use the WiFi and enjoy our beautiful weather. The menu is small and straight forward and has what you need. The staff is great! You should probably check it out!
Modern little cafe, not too busy when we went but still had a few people around on their laptops working quietly. Peaceful vibe. Coffee is good, husband got a chai latte and he thought it was really good. We both got brie, fig jam, bacon, etc, I got the croissant sandwich and he got the crepe. Excellent combo, definitely recommend the croissant. Will go again if in the area!
A favorite of mine. It feels like being on vacation enjoying the nice breeze and a very cool peanut butter, chocolate, and banana drink. Their food is delicious and plentifully portioned. Theyre pet and people friendly.
The avocado toast with truffle oil is amazing! We went right around 10 on a Saturday and the service was still super fast. I got the savory crepe with avocado and cream cheese, and my husband got the avocado toast. Im not sure which one I liked more, they were both amazing. Great coffee, too! Friendly staff, and very nice decor. Highly recommend!
Nice, quiet local spot. Not sure why there was only one guy serving everyone. (poor dude) Great selection of sweet and savory treats, like crepes!
You searching for an amazing place to Enjoy some food with a friend or do some work this definitely the place. The prices are superb for tie quality and the portion you receive. It has inside and outside seatings. And outside is covered so you won’t be sitting in the sun, but definitely would enjoy the fresh breeze.
They always forget to add avocado(but always charge me) and their chai lattes aren’t the greatest—but the food is fantastic. I love eating it in the morning via Uber Eats. Their other speciality drinks are yummy as well.
This place is great. I was with a group of 5 and we all kept saying how good the food is. The decor was really nice, and I like places that have both indoor/outdoor options. I was also surprised how quickly we got our food given we were in line behind like 8 people....I had the avocado toast and it was right on the money.
Great spot to hangout. Their outside seating is very nice! Their food is also great, I highly recommend their avocado toast!
It was clean, comfortably air conditioned and the service was great. I ordered a London fog and the avocado toast. The London fog was perfect, made with loose leaf tea and just the right amount of milk and foam. The avocado toast on the other hand blew my socks off! Freash slices of avocado, micro greens, sea salt pepper and to top it all off truffle oil! Taste bud Paradise!
Lovely cafe. Yummy offerings. Lots of vegan drink options. No parking for the cafe, we had to pay for parking across the street. Dogs permitted on the outside area, which is lovely for our Search Dogs. But, if you arent into dogs you might sit inside. A perfect place to meet a friend and chat.Update: Limited indoor seating with air conditioning. Loved the crepes.
I really look forward to coffees from Refill! My sweetie lives nearby, and its right on the way when we take a walk. The latte is my go to, she favors the Americano. Well be back there soon :)
My friend took me here while I was visiting from out of town. My goodness. The food here is out-freaking-standing, and the service staff is top notch. Do yourself a favor and make some time for this amazing restaurant.
Shared a delicious crepe (brie, fig, apple) with my one year old and enjoyed a coconut chai. We sat outside. The service was great and the food was tasty! I didnt see any high chairs, but I didnt get around to asking for one either. It would have made snack time a little easier😉
I had my first crepes here, and now I definitely understand why Aziraphale traveled to revolutionary France for just a nibble.Sinfully delightful
Only 2 blocks from my apartment! Nice cappuccinos, but the coffee to milk ratio is skewed a little too much toward the milk. A little light for my taste.Avocado toast is amazing!!Ive had a few of the crepes. The toppings are good (and abundant!) but the crepes are a bit dry.
Love the smooth coffee here. Very comfortable to meet a friend or have a business meeting. The breakfast sandwiches look very fresh and delicious.Free wifi.Outdoor patio.
Cute spot for coffee and a snack! Good quality
Wow. Just wow. This is a true gem. The food is reasonably priced, service very good. Presentation and taste PHENOMENAL. Key things to note: If you prefer your coffee or drink in a paper cup when youre dining in, make sure to tell the staff. Otherwise, the drink is in a stoneware cup. Also, this is located in Hillcrest. It has a VERY welcoming vibe for all walks, which was great. Loved it!!
Not much for parking available but great coffee and food! I ordered the oatmeal with PB and bananas and it was HUGE! My decaf coconut milk latte was wonderful as well! They are very dog friendly and have a great atmosphere.
I visit Refill as a book club meeting spot one weekend a month. I get a large coffee and generally an acai bowl. Both are delicious and a little pricey but normal for the area. There seems to be decent amount of seating inside with many people studying. The service is friendly, the space clean. Parking is difficult because of its location
Coffee is good. The place is very hip and pretty. Service is lazy and they take too long to assist you
Had breakfast there and the food was good overall. Acai bowl was big, croissant sandwich was okay a little over priced for what you get and the crepe we tried was good.Service was just okay that day and they really need to vacuum there vents, they were full of dust. Some dust ended up falling from the vents landing on my jacket and almost into our food.
Great coffee, great crepes and love their cups (a pleasure to not use disposable cups).
Best coffee ever
We were visiting San Diego and stayed just a block away from this shop. We went there very morning for coffee and breakfast and very day it was delicious! The cappuccino and Nutella mocha were favorites and their savory crepes are great, especially the bacon with Brie and apples. Would go all the time if we lived there. Staff and baristas are super friendly. Highly recommend it!
This is a little café that serves crepes and other items like toast, salads, and oatmeal with coffee drinks. Its a modern place, with indoor and outdoor seating. Prices are okay, but a little more than I would want.I decided on the brie/fig jam/bacon/arugula crepe. It was made alright, but the bacon wasnt fully cooked to my liking (although it was a good portion). The crepe overall had a good mix of ingredients, but it just felt like something was missing. Its a good average place to do some work and grab something small to eat.
Great breakfast options, great food and great coffee! Too bad a restaurant named refills doesnt have free refills! However, given the propensity of people come and hang for hours, youd go broke with free refills! Heading back next week!
Good breakfast croissants! Add anything you want to go with your coffee, Expresso, or cold brew! Seats and tables are comfortable and open concept is nice!
Super helpful in leading me to the Tiki Mousse sticks! Very friendly and the same person came quickly to open up another register. Bonus was I ordered online and received a 15% discount for pickup.
Open at 6am: perfect for parents with a kiddo who doesnt know how to sleep. The coffee drinks hit the spot (chocolate milk cold brew!), and the crepes were yummy. The people are also very nice. 👍
Bad Coffee.Horrible Service.Good Food.
The most delicious vanilla latte I ever had. Super yummy crepes too. Love this place and will return. Very modern and clean place with friendly staff. Highly recommend.
The food was amazing! I thought the prices looked a bit high for what they were offering, but when we got our meal, it was defiantly worth the money. They also have very nice mugs
We had some really great lattes to go and they were probably among the best weve had. They also had crepes in all sorts of sweet and savory combinations, but didnt think they would work very well to go, so were planning to head back to dine in.
Good place to study, if you want to hangout later, they have beers too.
A wonderful coffee shop with a great selection of food and pastries.
The muddy chai is okay, but the croissant sandwiches are all yummy. Good place for meetings and studying. Lots of space and vibes are good
One of my favorite place to get cold brew coffee. Its always fresh every time. Food is also good there and there is outdoor seating, whats not to love?!?!
Great coffee, especially cold brew. Good atmosphere, lots of dogs.
