Some of the best coffee and donuts around San Diego. Plus they have an offering of smoothies, juice, and other snacks too. I tried the salted caramel latte and it was great. But the real reason to come here is for the donuts - theyβre handmade to order so theyβre always hot and fresh. They have a variety of unique flavor combinations to try, such as the Elvis with peanut butter, raspberry jam, bananas, and bacon.
Donuts came out fresh and warm just as theyve advertised! There is only one entrance for the drive thru as the other driveway is designated for exit only (even though some drivers have entered that way only to face the right way drivers annoyance). You can also park and walk up to the other window as well. But friendly workers and delicious donuts make it worth the drive to come here! :)
So my wife picked this coffee shop. The coffee is good. Donuts are fabulous! The issue is no where to really sit. They have two benches up front. But if they are busy those fill up quick.Another issue is the homeless/deceased person on the sidewalk. (He was not really deceased). But it does damper the mood of getting your coffee in the AM.
The coffee is always great! So far my experience with the donuts has been hit or miss. When you get them fresh, they will blow your mind. When they have been sitting around they taste like a sponge.
Friendly staff, cute place. Will be a nice place to hang out when things get back to normal. They have parking which is amazing and the donuts are insanity. Freshly made to order and then topped with whichever of their fun and high quality concoctions you choose.... and they dole them out pretty fast too!!!
Absolutely must go. Cannot go wrong with absolutely anything on the menu! Easily the best speciality coffee and donuts in San Diego. Hot and fresh every time.
I had a Red-eye that was above average in flavor. The breakfast bagel sandwich was satisfying. Would definitely go again.
Unique flavor combos, donuts a lil too sweet for my liking, chewy with crispy edges, donut was lukewarm not hot and fresh.
At times you might not find a parking near by. you get your delicious donut(s) fresh and warm within 10 mins of ordering.
Unique flavors, friendly staff, served warmish, soft with chewy/crunch edges, good but not amazing, a bit too sweet for me personally.
Unique and delicious for when you want to satisfy your sweet tooth. Great service too.
We had: latte, cold brew, acai Bowl. Latte was very good, cold brew was OK (a tad oversteeped). The acai Bowl was without a doubt the best Ive ever had, and Ive had a LOT of acai bowls. Will be back regularly without a doubt!
Good selection of coffees and awesome fresh made gourmet donuts. Made the donuts while I waited.. 2min tops for 1/2 dzn. It was raining when I walked up to order and rather than have me stand in the rain, they brought my order to my car.
Stopped for a quick donut and Josh made us a fresh Copper Top Donut- needless to say it did not disappoint.Donuts are reasonably priced ($2/donut), fresh, light, and delicious! We will be returning and getting a better picture as we barely had any left before I could snap a picture.Great customer service, bomb donuts and they also have a drive through π
Unique made to order doughnuts ππΌππΌ
Some of the best donuts Iβve had, visited 3 times during my stay in San Diego, French toast and Copper top donuts were my favorite. Coffee was mediocre, could be much better, felt milky every time.
Awful awful awfulFried yeast one flavor only, what they do is put topping on top over the doughnut. Worst donut Ive ever had.I thought it would be filled and and be like a choc dough when ordering a choc donut. No pictures. Absolutely disgusting, heavy yeast, undercooked. Ick yuk
Delicious donuts. Great iced chai
Really fresh, delicious donuts with great service!
Tried it on a whim - Awesome drinks and hot fresh donuts!
Fantastic donuts and friendly staff! What more could you want! Their copper top donut is my favorite and I like their new Chaga Latte as well.
The staff are really kind and thoughtful and the food and drink is amazing. Seriously so grateful I decided to try this place today. The picture shows a French toast donut, pb and jelly donut, and a smores donut from top to bottom. The missing donut I ate super fast was Nutella banana and granola. Also these gourmet freshly made donuts were only $2 each! I also got an iced matcha latte and it was delicious. Better than Starbucks 100% !!
My favorite coffee in San Diego! The flavor of their coffee just cannot be beat.
Donuts were amazing! Good flavors and were served fresh and warm
Great donuts! 1st stop when we landed and was hoping to make it our last stop but they just closed. Cant wait to come back to San Diego for these donuts!
Their donuts and coffee are amazing! Donuts freshly made on the spot, variety of delicious flavors, creative coffees (their Copper Top Rose drink is fantastic), and everyone there is super friendly and helpful.
Found this place on Instagram last night and popped by for breakfast this morning and good grief was it worth it!The adorable A-frame shop sits on the corner of Washington Street & 1st Avenue in Hillcrest. We arrived around 9:30 am and stood in line to order with a few other customers. I had a Celebration and French Toast donuts and he had the Dirt Pile and the Copper Top donuts. The guy who helped us was welcoming, helpful, and funny. He gave us the low down on all the donuts which made the decision that much harder. Copper Top has a great patio off to the left side with tables and chairs and a corner banquet. There are umbrellas posted about to combat the summer sun, too. Oh and its dog friendly! We had a sit down on the patio and gobbled up our donuts in a few bites. His first one was gone before we even sat. Ha! The donuts were warm and soft with that perfect little crunch around the edge. They werent greasy or heavy either. Each and every bite was more delicious than the last. Take my advice: forget your summer diet and go stuff your mouth with several!
Iβll start by saying that I typically hate leaving 1 star reviews especially for small businesses. I thought about what I experienced today for several hours before writing this review and I feel like I have no recourse except to disclose what I feel was blatant lack of customer service and horrible potential customer experience.I called at 10AM to place an order for an assortment of two dozen doughnuts. I was going to be taking them to an employee training and brand awareness presentation I was hosting @ 1:30PM that day. Iβve tried the doughnuts here before and really enjoyed them. I thought they offered a unique and craft doughnut experience that I thought would be a big hit as a special offering at my presentation that would reflect what we value as a brand to the people attending. I called back a few minutes after I placed my original order and spoke with the owner because I was interested in adding cold brew coffee to my order but after speaking with him decided on ordering regular coffee instead. I confirmed my order with the owner and that I would be paying cash and arriving at 1:15PM.Being that this was a bigger order I wanted to give them plenty of heads up.I was running 5 minutes late to pick up the doughnuts and knew I needed to make the stop to pick up quick and then be on my way to make it to my presentation in mission valley on time. Upon arriving I gave the lady at the window my name and all I got was a stare of bewildering confusion. No one behind the glass knew anything about a pick up order! How did I talk to two people one of whom was the owner and neither of them communicated a significant order that needed to be ready at 1:15.I had already told everyone attending my presentation ahead of time that I would be bringing some special doughnuts from copper top and got everyone really stoked on what they could look forward to. So naturally I was immediately disappointed and now frustrated with how this situation and how it might reflect on me. I told the lady at the register that I had placed the order directly with the owner and that I was extremely disappointed and needed to speak with him directly if he was still available. Turns out that the guy standing by the back door listening to the conversation that I was having with his employee was actually the owner. He stepped forward and I expressed my thorough disappointment with the whole situation and that I would be writing a review of my experience. He first offered an excuse saying that he was incredibly busy and had βFORGOTβ about the order?!?! Hard to believe a doughnut shops busiest time of business is 1pm on a Monday afternoon but whatever how do we make this right. His solution was to have me wait 15 minutes for them to give me what I ordered and didnβt even offer a discount or compensation for the error or anything. He did apologize although simultaneously acted like it was no big deal and that I would be welcome to pass the blame for not following thru with my commitment on to him. I ended up having to buy 2 Dozen doughnuts and coffee from Dunkin Doughnuts and ended up being 5 minutes late for my own training and disappointing everyone that attended with wack doughnuts.
Today is my last day in San Diego and itβs so bittersweet. This is my first time visiting and it has stolen my heart! This morning I decided to get out and get some donuts and cold brew at a coffee shop close by. Copper Top Coffee & Donuts is incredible!!! Not only is the coffee and specialty donuts amazing but the owner and employees are equally awesome! Huge bonus that theyβre from Puyallup and Olympia wa!!! It made me feel like I was right back in the pnw. Very glad I made the stop because this place is AMAZING!!
This was a fun place! The kids like donuts and I prefer a savory breakfast. They have a decent breakfast sandwich. The donuts are made to order, so if there is a topping combo you want but it isnt listed, just ask and they will put it together for you. I tasted the donuts and they were pretty great. The kids loved the donuts and the experience. Coffee was great.
Favorite local coffee shop. Donuts are amazing and the coffee is always fresh.
Yummazing (my son said that) But seriously... top notch donuts paired with amazing coffee = happy kids and a happy dad.
Great coffee and donuts but make sure you eat the donuts when theyre hot.
First time here, delicious donuts and friendly staff gave great recommendations π
Went here yesterday.the lady at the driver thru was probs in her late 20s w curly light brown hair. she disingenuously took my order then gave me the exact opposite of what i wanted.i told her i wanted an iced chai tea latte w cinnamon mixed in, and vanilla sweet cream cold foam. i asked if she has vanilla sweet cream cold foam. she said no. i politely asked if she could make some, from heavy whipping cream and the aerator. she agreed like she was ecstatic to make it.she literally gave me an iced chai w whipped cream on top and CARAMEL SAUCE... never have i ever heard of chai w WHIPPED CREAM & CARAMEL SAUCE.......she murmured something under her breath abt gays. so, i think she was just being prejudiced towards me, because she even had another lady hand me off my drink, like she knew she purposefully made the incorrect drink for me, as a way to insult me.i donβt get ppl like her. like, itβs not my fault ur unhappy when u see others w more than u.
Warm donuts say what???!!! Love this little gem for the occasional treat. I really enjoyed my Curious George donut which was warm with Maple frosting, Fresh Bananas, Walnuts and a little cinnamon sugar dust.
Not bad donuts at all. Ask for extra napkins because they are messy as a good donut should be.
Iced Coffee was watery and burnt . Lavender iced coffee was awful . Wont be back.
The coffee is great, true, but try the PARFAIT. Amazing.
Great speciality coffees loved there latee.
This place has the best iced coffee.
Love this cute little place in Hillcrest. I love supporting local businesses and you should too! Been here a few times and Im definitely a fan! Their flavors are creative and flavorful. Who doesnt love fresh piping hot donuts? I have tried almost every donut on the menu but my favorite is the school lunch - peanut butter and jelly! YUM! My sons favorite is the Dirt Pile which is loaded with Oreo crumbs. If you cant find parking, they also have a drive-thru! Super convenient! Service was great! They were friendly and got everything in a timely manner. Cant wait to see what other donut flavors theyll come up with in the future. Definitely will be back!
The opportunity to have a great conversation with another local resident. Shes a great dependable grandmother thats always caught indulging in the outdoor activities San Diego has to offer.
Cute coffee house from a former Der Wienerschnitzel.Friendly and fast. Coffee, pastries and light breakfast.
Damn good donuts and fast, friendly service!
The donuts here are historically bad. The dough is hard, chewy and bland we last went here a year ago and they were just as bad so no improvements have been made on the menu or the ordering process. Coffee isnt bad but they need to improve on the ordering process. With no speaker to place your order it increases ticket and wait times decreasing return customers. Its not really coffee shop with a drive through its a drive up since you literally conduct all your business at the window.
I was looking for a good cup of coffee and a pastry, and honestly the coffee right here was very good and the donut was excellent. Just with the right amount of sugar and a cake like consistency that it was just perfect for breakfast. I am looking forward to go again and get me not only one, but two dozens.
I like the friendly service and the coffee was good.
I love their white chocolate hazelnut coffee! Their blueberry chia oatmeal is also bomb and the drive thru is clutch!
Copper Tops coffee is delicious! Ive tried lattes, black coffee, and cold brew. All of it is great. Their donuts are super tasty too. My favorites are the school lunch and french toast. ππ©ππ©
Great coffee. Doughnuts are interesting and clever but are not to my taste.
Coffee was watered-down. The staff was friendly .
1st time today, they got my order wrong, π. But got 3 donuts, when i ordered 2, tasted good and friendly staff thats why they get 3 πππ. My original order was supposed to be the sugar & spice donut and the one with nutela and completely covered w bananas, heres a pic of what they gave me.
Delicious, fresh, cake donuts. I generally hate cake donuts but these are so so so good.
I love the donuts at copper top. They are fresh, tasty and beautifully decorated. Not too sweet and not too greasy. Made perfect! If you love donuts youll love copper top! Ive never been a big donut person but copper donuts are my abosulte favorite!
Sandwich was good but donuts werent great
Im a fan of their donuts and coffee, particularly the copper rose latte. Who doesnt love a fresh, warm donut and an iced or hot coffee on a summer day?Staff is always nice and pleasant. Love that theres a drive through window also, especially during COVID. Love the retro building.
Copper Top was a cute place for coffee and donuts. We were on vacation, and the kids wanted donuts, and parents needed caffeine.I usually donβt like cake donuts, because theyβre too dry. However, these were good. The cake was moist, and the flavors were fun and not too sweet. Kids loved their donuts, but what kid wouldnβt.My husband got the salted caramel latte, and he said it was delicious. My house-made chai was mild, almost watery tasting. Chai is my favorite, and it should be much more flavorful.Overall, I would come here again.
Amazing donuts in the copy is also excellent!
I had just my checked my husband into the emergency room at UCSD and stumbled on this little spot while waiting anxiously for news. They were so kind and even opened up a little early for me as they could clearly read the βthis woman needs coffeeβ signals on my face. They even offered me free doughnuts for my husband when I told them what the situation was π©β€οΈ Thanks for making the world a kinder place, one delicious cappuccino at a time
Awesome coffee and BEST DONUTS IN SAN DIEGO hands down!!!
Great coffee and donuts. Super friendly too
Not bad location but depends on your pallet. I like my drink with flavor and not watered down with too much ice. I ordered their chai latte and copper rose latte and I was disappointed because it was so watered down. They would have been better hot Im sure. The donuts were definitely good though, my girl loved them.
Great stuff. One of the best donuts Ive ever had before.
This shack by the road has coffee worth stopping for ! Donuts looked great ... didnβt have any but would give them a try !
Coffee was meh and priced like it was about to be bomb.com. Twas not, however. Got the salted Carmel latte. $5 without a .50 milk alternative. Hubby got a plain latte and honestly they did not compare to many other coffee places in the area. If youre looking for kitchy, sure. If youre looking for quality, naw. Donuts were good though.
Coffee was great and the Dirt Pile Donut was outstanding!
Coffee and food is the best!
As a newbie to the area and copper top I had no idea what to expect. THIS IS MY NEW FAVORITE A.M. COFFEE & DONUT PLACE! I have been raving to everyone I know about how amazing this place is! The donuts are $2 well spent! I bought a dozen for my office and all my coworkers loved them (most are foodies). There are only a few flavors on the menu, but there are off menu seasonal flavors. My personal fave is the raspberry chocolate donut. Oh and THE COFFEE!! I am 100% divorcing starbucks. The Copper Rose Latte is so amazing! Ive never had coffee that tasted like roses until this and I dont know why this was ever absent from my life. The staff are super friendly and every time I go to the drive thru they come out to meet me and take my order. Also, Ive never seen a line at the drive thru, only 1 car ahead of me ever, and the wait is minimal. Ill be trying the walk up window this weekend π
We went there after my wifes MRI on the way back home since we saw this on the way there. I got the Copper Rose Latte (a definite win) and my wife got the Salted Caramel Latte (she loves all things salted caramel so this was perfect) then we got some of their signature donuts. They were made fresh on the spot so you know they were not playing. This is definitely a place to frequent if you live in Hillcrest or if you visiting the area.
Favorite donut place! The are unique and delicious, the coffee is soo good(I got mocha)
Wow. Great coffee, customer service, and fresh made donuts!!
