Hello all. I was on vacation with my family and the place we were staying recommended Rays Rentals for us to go for bikes. We went there to see an uneducated, understaffed, and overpriced rental store. DO NOT GO TO RAYS. We ended up walking literally right across the street to find a clean and organized rental shop by the name of Radd Action Sports. The staff here was so kind and patient with us and our family and had no problem assisting us with anything we needed. Also baskets and locks are included at Radd but at Rays they are extra. I recommend Radd Action Sports if you want an awesome rental experience!

My family and I have been here twice and we’ll most likely come back every time we’re visiting San Diego. Luis was very helpful, friendly and professional, he went above and beyond for us today and he definitely deserves a shout out!

Great time riding bikes around Mission Beach!

Only giving 3 stars because we rented beach chairs and umbrella, did not need it either on Mission beach or Coronado beach.

After 5 days of renting here, we were accused of breaking a paddle that was broken when handed to us. Take pictures of your items before you leave.We got to the beach and noticed that the handle on our paddle was broken. I walked back to exchange it. The kid told me we are going to have to charge you for that. I thought he was kidding... He was serious. He proceeded to argue with me that I somehow broke it in the 2 minutes after leaving.Later he runs down to the beach with a new paddle and tells me sorry, we effed up.Then! Proceeds to tell me again how he cant be sure I didn’t break it!Unbelievable! And the manager never called us back!2 stars tho because they do have nice equipment.

We saw this place online yesterday and it seemed like a good place to get bike rentals and ride around the beach. We almost booked online on FAREHARBOR.com - The price was $25 for a 4-hour tandem bike rental. At the place, however, the price was $40. I asked if I was indeed at the same place because the price was so different. He said yes but the price I was seeing on my phone was a pre-book price. I said that was ok, I could book it on my phone. Guy then says no, he would just charge me the difference in-person for booking online.... what?! Bottom line, go somewhere else where they don’t try to cheat you or at the very least just book online ahead of time on FAREHARBOR. Needless to say, I left. I will not be extorted by a rinky-dink bike shop.

Rented bikes from Rays over the holidays. They have a lot of bike options: cruisers, hybrid bikes, and even road bikes! Take a look at the bikes to see which one works best for you. They have a ton of locations which made renting really convenient. But above all, their staff (Tim!) went above and beyond to make our rental experience a positive one!

Rays has excellent customer service and great prices. I am here temporarily and I am new to surfing. The staff gave me a lot of nice tips and showed me some good spots to surf at. They were also very fast at making reservations and getting me the gear that I needed (note: you should plan ahead and call to make reservations if possible or go in to make reservations as it does get fairly busy around noon). I plan on coming back and doing business with them in the future. Thanks!

This place is great. We rented two hybrid bikes that worked perfectly. Tim waited on us and went out of his way to show us different routes in city to take. He also installed a bottle holder on bike for my husband. We were in and out of Store in record time. We drove around Mission Bay and had a great time. I highly recommend.

Rays Rentals hooked me up with a surf board on my first attempt ever to go surfing. They were very informative on what I would need, and directed me to a large beginners board, and a wet suit (which came in handy considering how cold the water was). Surfing is much harder than it looks! Without the advice given to me by one of the shop attendants I would have likely never been able to stand up on my board.

My family has taken practically every family vacation to San Diego since I was a little kid. While we used to just go to any rental shop on the beach that was closest to our hotel, we have spent the last 6 or so years going exclusively to Rays. Not only do they have the best prices but they are the coolest people to deal with. Unlike most companies on the beach, they take customer service really seriously and really care about making their customers happy. Would not go anywhere else.

Heres the real review from a brand new tourist in San Diego. I was there for four days and rented something from rays every day. Day one we rented bikes for a bargain considering what was getting charged up the street. We had so much fun we had to rent them again the next day. Day 3 and 4 we rented body boards. The bottom line is their customer service is the best. Not just compared to the other shops, but a model that every business should be striving for. These guys have pride in their city and are willing to share the best local spots to make sure you have a great time. A special shout out to Timothy. He gave us solid info everytime we needed it. Great job guys, I cant wait to come back.

Great place to get your rentals with excellent customer service. We rented a siri bike that could seat five people, two little kids in the front and three adults in the back. However, three adults in the back is a little bit tight but still super fun.

Rays Rentals is THE place to go for all your beach-going needs. It has bikes, surf boards, paddle boards, buggy boards, kayaks, wet suits, surf lessons, and the list goes on and on. The location is great, just by the roller coaster and the bay. The prices are very reasonable and the staff is always welcoming. Parking is free nearby at the roller coaster, or if you go early enough on sundays/holidays the street parking is free all day long. So if you want to rent or even buy some beach gear year-round stop in at Rays Rentals :)

UPDATE!! They have ped-go electric bikes now! SO FUN! I didnt get tired all day and it was great for checking out the entire board walk! This is the best bike/surf/outdoor stuff rental in San Diego! I just go back from a short weekend trip in SD and visited them twice. They have two conventient locations near the beach, and I heard a new one opening in Newport Beach soon. The prices are unbeatable! and you can find even better prices if you look for a coupon online, but really you dont even need the coupon. Everything is at a great price, from bikes, to boards, they have it all (surf, boogie, paddle etc).The staff is super helpful and nice, and if theyre not busy they will help you carry your stuff out to bay (depending on the location you visit). The service is unbeatable, almost as good as the low prices.be sure to stop by while in SD for an awesome outdoor experience. you wont regret it! PS the owner and his wife are super nice, I love supporting family owned small businesses...

On Monday we rented two double kayaks and a standup paddle board, very easy access to the bay. We had A LOT of fun in the water. The customer services was top notch. They even told us they would deliver next time to our Vacation Rental if we needed for an additional fee.Then on Tuesday we got Pedego Electric Bikes to do the loop around San Diego bay. It was so fun and easy with the extra help with the battery power. Everything was so quick and easy to rent at the shop.We will be back

How can you go wrong with the location, great prices, and best of all their customer service! I came here with a friend to do some stand up paddle boarding on the bay... Now Im hooked! You can rent/buy anything, talk about a one stop shop! Anyways, they had everything we needed and more and were super helpful with directing us and letting us know some local secrets! I highly recommend this store to all my friends and family, because you gotta support your local businesses especially when they do such a good job! Not only will I be coming back next time, but I will definitely be trying out those bikes too!

Crackhead running this place was scatter brained needs to put down the drugs! 4 Bikes rented all needed bearing work, chain lube, brakes fixed, and just needed overall overhaul! Plus is 2 dollars more an hr than most other places down there rent somewhere else.

We parked our cars at the free parking lot on West Mission boulevard and walked towards the Mission Boulevard where Rays rental is.We rented 2 tandem bikes from them to do a mission beach loop bike trip 17 miles in 3 hours. We got there on Friday June 24, 2016 around 10:45am. Was able to get the bikes no problem (we didnt reserve them ahead of time but again it was a Friday). We got our starbucks to kick start our self-guided bike trip at around 12 noon. First we rode to our parking lot to take a water leak, and then over the bridge along West Mission bay drive, to Quivira blvd and turn right along the san diego river. We saw big fish (2 feet long) jumping out of the water and it was low tide. we then make a left turn onto S shore Park drive passing Sea world drive. made our way to mission bay drive. We stopped at Hilton resort for lunch around 1:30pm. Got a flat tire and waited for the bike owner to replace our tandem bike. We continued our trip at 3pm and finished the bike loop trip at 4:40pm. We stopped at many places and took many beautiful pictures and videos. Temperature was 72 degrees Farenheit - very sunny and pleasant day. Rays rental - thank you for your help and tandem bikes.

Rented for the second time and it was a total rip off!! The pricing ofr bike rental on monday/weekday was $18 for half day when there were multiple bike rentals for $10 for all day in the same area...we did not look around.....the place nickle and dime you with other stuff. A nearby bike rental was giving for $10 for all day including baskets and we were charged $5 for a basket. Will not be renting again from here.

The bike I rented was a death trap.Chain fell off at least 15 times in under 2 hours, which left me brakeless whilst riding down some steep hills.When I confronted them about the issue the employee fell silent like a child and failed to even apologise.I also had to walk the bike from La Jolla back to the store because it wasnt safe to ride.Dont rent a bike from here.

Understaffed - Many people waited a long time to rent a bike or something else. They are somewhat disorganized with their papers. They are not especially nice when under pressure of many customers
