I’ll be honest - first time I ordered a lox sandwich I was not impressed. And actually that’s my fault. I didn’t make a proper order with all the fixings. This time I did and this was the BEST lox sandwich I’ve ever had. I also bought a tub of the smoked salmon cream cheese, which is phenomenal. Don’t buy smoked salmon cream cheese from anywhere else! Oh, and my iced vanilla latte was perfection.
Ordered the smoked salmon supposedly comes with capers came with none had to ask and I was eating I looked in the bag and no napkins like I wonder if they go eat without napkins as well just wondering because if the answer is no then why would you not give your customers napkins to wipe their hands and mouth...dont think Ill come back was my first and last time here and I gave a tip but hopefully they use it to remember how their bagels are done and napkins .
ROUTINELY get delivery orders wrong by missing entire items. A review of my past five orders showed a refund for each one, so this is consistent.Otherwise, it’s the best bagels in town.
Pretty good sandwiches. They really pack em and ingredients taste fresh. They have veg ones and sandwiches and vegan options. Fairly priced too.
We had the Crunchy Spice bagel sandwich for breakfast and it was super delicious!!! It was nice and spicy and just had the best flavor profile! A little on the pricey side, but it was totally worth it. (We went to the Hayes location when we were in San Francisco.)
The BEST place in Hayes Valley to experience a real DELI. Great staff and great food. Please support our local business. Everything here is house-made. We need to keep this gem in our neighborhood. Everything I have ordered here was excellent, including the service. I cannot speak highly enough about this place. Thank you Wise Sons for operating your business during these challenging times. Hayes Valley LOVES YOU 💝
I used to really like this place! But the last three times I’ve ordered from this place my sandwiches have been made wrong. I always get two sandwiches and they vary in ingredients, some ingredients will be on the wrong sandwich, the bagel will be wrong or there will be things I didn’t order on a sandwich. I really liked this place but they have not been able to get my order right, I don’t think I will be ordering here again.
A decent grab and go breakfast sandwich joint with great coffee 🥯☕
Had to wait 1 hour 30 minutes for my bagel to be prepared and ready… it’s always like this at Wise Sons.
Ordered a club sandwich. Mustard was not listed on the menu as part of the sandwich, but was on the sandwich and sadly I hate mustard. So I didn’t enjoy it at all. Also ordered a veggie deluxe bagel. It was only ok- really salty. We also had potato salad. It was ok. I really wanted to like it, and I think I would have liked the club if not for the mustard, but overall it wasn’t great.
The customer service is excellent considering you need to order outside and only briefly. The bagels were delicious. I ordered an everything bagel, toasted with shmear (not cream cheese) and smashed avocado. I also tried a cup of their cold brew ice coffee and it gave me a nice morning jolt!
SF is lucky to have three of these timeless and classic places offered by the same family. A staple. LChaim!
Excellent bagels, quick service, good shmear... whats not to like?
Best bagels in the city. Bring the turmeric latte back.
I used to love this place. But this morning was the second time the bagel was completely untoasted, even after specifically emphasizing I wanted it well toasted.
Staff is so nice, and the food is great too!
Outrageously loud music thats inappropriate, especially early in the morning while buying breakfast. Poor service by the female, who didnt know how to answer simple questions about the sandwich. I wont be returning.
Loved it.
Busy staff, plain bagel with cream cheese tastes like its got onion on the knife that smeared the cheese on it. Bagels are quite hard so when I purchase a East coast veggie bagel, the tall stack of tasty and fresh vegetables with cream cheese has no choice but to explode everywhere. Kind of fun to eat, but the bagels density is a little bit too severe in my opinion. I continue to go back because its reliable. I suppose they could super toast the bagel to make it crunchier and fall apart more easily?
Food was very good. Service by a female coworker was very short and un-helpful when asked questions. Other staff member took over and was helpful.
Bagel itself was delicious but I was really disappointed with the crispy pastrami, was expecting a bunch of slices like you usually get at a deli, but instead got this one TINY slice of what looked like burned bacon. The egg also felt synthetic, like the ones you get in mcdonald’s, like it came out of a plastic bag and was microwaved, and the cheese was also really reminiscent of cheap fast food cheddar. I was expecting a more gourmet feel. Also, I had to wear headphones because who wants to listen to Blink 182 at 7am (or ever) ?!
Good place to have a quick snack/lunch. Not too busy when we went there. Had a good view of the street to chill for a bit. Mrs had a Reuben which she enjoyed very much. I had a (Kinda) Spicy Egg with Onion Bialy Bagel which was fine when adding some mustard on it, personally.
Great neighborhood bagel spot. Fresh bagels and really good chocolate babka! Pro tip: ask for your bagel double toasted. Also try their crispy pastrami!
Though the bagels and other food can be top notch - the attention to detail is lacking - and poorly managed - more than once I have ordered a “Baker’s dozen” of bagels - that’s supposed to mean 13 rather than 12 - but here I have never successfully been given 13 when ordered the first time and even now with delivery services like Caviar it can mean you get only 6 - the portions are really skimpy in general - somebody needs to show these guys what portion and quality you get at a deli like Delancy St in NYC - seriously it is shameful.
Massively disappointing. A whole lot of money for a whole lot of nothing. Breakfast sandwich? $9. $2 for a single slice of pastrami. If the bagels were toasted like I asked for, I couldnt tell. Bagels too dense. Maybe this city just has a low bar for bagels? Regardless, I wont be returning and would not recommend.
I was in Octavia Park at lunchtime, and I noticed a woman eating what looked like a delicious hot bagel sandwich. I asked her where she bought it and she pointed me to Wise Sons, a Jewish deli. They dont have a lot of vegetarian options on their menu but I had the hot bagel sandwich with cheese and scrambled egg. Very tasty. Ive never had this before, but I know comfort food when I eat it.The cozy, narrow shop has one table outside and mostly counter seating inside, with one or two tall tables for two.
Tasty bagels, but the staff will never get your order right. I come here once a week usually on weekends and every time they mess up my order (but I keep coming back, the bagels are good). Whatever you tell the cashier don’t expect it to translate to the person making your bagel. For example, I ask for my bagel double toasted every time and they usually double toast it 1 out of 5 times. Most recently I asked for dill on my bagel and received it with out dill. Classic. If you want your sandwich made a certain way make sure to double check with the cooks after you order!
Awesome bagels sandwiches. Enough said.
Bagel cafe in Hayes Valley. Nice location and good service
Very friendly staff, excellent bagels (the Lox bagel was awesome!)
I was excited to see this branch of Wise Sons pop up around the corner from my house - and they had black and white cookies on the menu! I’m a black and white addict so I grabbed some today. Guys these cookies are an absolute insult. Dry, bizarre unpleasant aftertaste and this ultra thin coating of frosting that’s more like a glaze. Avoid avoid. Go to Miller’s on Polk if you want a real one.
Amazing bagels, nothing more to add. One star deduction because the quality of the coffee varied on several visits here
The food here is good but overpriced. Also, I wish they had the full menu! The Wise Sons with the full menu is legit. This is just a pared down version (similar to the location on Fillmore) with sandwiches and bagels. The bagels are good but not huge. This is a pretty small location, there is limited seating.
Ive had much better bagels in SF. Have given this a couple of chances but the bagels are quite dry and on the small size. I suspect the bagels were a day old. Babka has been hit and miss and on one occasion was definitely from the previous day.
So great to have a great breakfast and lunch option in Hayes Valley. They serve Stumptown Coffee with cold brew on tap! They have recently added classic sandwiches to their menu and have salads when youre looking for a healthier option.
Delicious classic Jewish style deli sandwiches, very tasty and high quality meats and breads. I get the no. 19, corned beef and cole slaw. Also has one of the best lox bagels Ive ever had. Restricted hours are unfortunate!
Everything bagels are coated on both sides which is great! Got the egg and cheese w pastrami (9$) and egg w harissa (7$). Harissa wasn’t spicy at all and slathered all over (too much for my liking ).
Bagels are solid (for CA) but small and not worth the ludicrous prices.
Great bagels! An excellent spot for authentic Jewish bakery classics. The pickles are a bit bland, but all the other food is on point. The coffee rocks! One of the only places around that can make a dirty chai and not burn it.
The bagels are small, so dont you dare be ashamed to eat three in one go.
Perfect. So glad we now have Wise Sons in Hayes Valley. Lox and cream cheese on a warm freshly baked bagel loaded with sesame seeds. Oh yeah.
Fresh bagels, nice place to chill..no public WiFi :(
Tasty coffee and dope breakfast sandwiches. Definitely recommend the crispy pastrami. Some outdoor seating available.
Great gluten free bagels! They arent on the menu so you have to ask which is annoying.
Very overrated. The bagels are truly awful though not worse than all the bagels tend to be outside of the NY area. Egg sandwich is mediocre. The hot food is better.
Reuben was great but a little pricey ($12.50!) considering the portion size. Their signature corned beef was a let down - meat was pretty dry, and again, not a particularly generous serving for the price. Pickles are a little on the bland side.
I love bagels, and this place has some exceptional pastrami-spiced lox. It opened 5 days ago, and I have been 4 times since it opened. I expect I will be back many times.
Both the salmon lox and pastrami lox were very good but the bagel was stale. Moldy challah visible to customers. Price too high for quality. Maybe passable if youve never had a fresh bagel before. Otherwise a disappointment
The sandwiches are just ok, the matzoh ball soup is great, the balls themselves are tasty, but the broth is a little thin, could be heartier
Amazing bagels. Wouldnt recommend their coffee, but there are plenty of better coffee options in the neighborhood.
Maybe the worst bagel Ive ever had, and I waited an hour to find out they were out of virtually every flavor by 11:30. Just close the doors if you run out of all of your food. Wont be back.
Nice bagel and sandwich place. Gets very busy around breakfast / early brunch time.
The bees knees. I like half smoked salmon schmear and horseradish schmear. Go now and dont hesitate. These bagels cant wait!
Great tasty bagels in a lovely neighborhood with friendly staff
The one great measure of an excellent East Coast bagel w/schmear, is the toast on the bagel. Nothing worse than a doughy bialy loaded with cream cheese.
Very disappointed the young lady who took my order at the Octavia street location was very rude both times I visit this place and the bagels are very hard I tried toasted and non toasted both ways were hard as a rock .I visited this place two times and I wont be back I will stick with Noah Bagels.
Good food
Good clean environment, but maybe a little pricey for what you get.
Amazing bagels really fast and friendly service!!
I gotta agree with the person who wrote that this Wise Son isn’t really run that well, let me explain myself, i came into this store with high expectations the guy behind the counter was super friendly because when i was going to sign the receipt (i payed with a debit card) the pen i was given didn’t have ink so he just gave me another plus i accidentally ripped the receipt & he gladly printed a new one for me to sign, up to this point everything was fine, but then i started noticing that the guy doing the bagels didn’t know where the things were in the kitchen, & i guess the manager/owner was telling him where the stuff was, by know it had been like 10-15 mins since i ordered my bagel, plus there was a line starting to form, Overrall i was disappointed the bagel was too small for the price i paid, & the berry shmear was too sweet for me. I think i’ll just go to the their other store located in the Fillmore, i have a feeling that one is run better than this store.
They make a pretty great breakfast sandwich, and the pastrami bacon is definitely unique
Bagel is 4/5, but still looking for the rest of the avocado on it
Awesome sandwiches, (possibly best in San Francisco). Still awesome after all these years.
Great place to have delivered because the inside of the place is very small. No place to sit and eat comfortably.
Usually very good bagels but often hit or miss depending on the day.
Great bagels, staff are always friendly
Incredibly friendly and incredibly yummy! Couldnt wish for more!
Amazing bagels and brekkie place!
The servers here are great but I find the bagles and mazo ball soup just arent memorable
Rueben Sandwich was Great, friendly staff and nice area
They use square POS machines and are a very close partner to Square.
Decent bagels and schmear. If you’re from New York, you’ll be disappointed.
They know what they are doing!!!
Great flavors, and even greater service.
Super solid bagels
Great bagels and sandwiches!
Some staffs are not friendly at all
Have seen the staff multiple times handling food directly with bare hands, no gloves on
Expensive and mediocre
Good, but expensive for what it is.
Good kosher food.
Delicious Reuben
Not as well run as the Fillmore shop just yet.
