I asked them to replace my power steering cooler and the mechanic their said I didnt need the power steering cooler replaced they could just bypass the cooler so the fluid wouldnt have any way to keep cool, I told them I wanted the cooler replaced anyways and the mechanic said that it was foolish that I wanted the part replaced and it was a waste of money so I lost faith in their knowledge of vehicles and said just give me my truck back and Ill go somewhere else so they still made me pay $90 and they didnt bother to tell me that they left the power steering hoses loosened so I drove off and leaked out all the power steering fluid thankfully while I was broken down on the side of the road I was able to tighten the hoses they loosened myself before bringing it to another garage to have it fixed properly. Dont trust these guys they do faulty quick fix repairs that will lead to bigger problems for your vehicle down the road.
Bad people, poor management-not sure how they stay in business. They treat their customers poorly and don’t even do a good job. Wouldn’t recommend in the slightest. Don’t waste your time here.
Honest and great service. Was recommended by family, and now I know why!
Hills is the only place I would dream of going. Reliable and - I cannot stress strongly enough - honest. Paul is simply the best at everything. Recently I had to have something tended to while Paul was out, and Tyler did the work. He is everything I would expect from an employee at Hills.Reliable, accurate and honest with that small town neighborhood feel. I would never go anywhere else.
I had a most remarkable car repair/inspection experience at Hills. They are honest and forthright about what needs doing, fair in what they charge, and they do thorough and quality work. Paul is a man of few words, but skilled hands and Karen is the charmer....together, they took the anxiety out of the whole process...a great team!
I went the other day and both mechanics were drunk and Im assuming were doing drugs out back when I heard smashing the a big sniff and then when he came out he couldnt stop sniffing. This also explains why my tire fell od3d a truck I got from there causing me to flip multiple times.
Im always suspicious of mechanics and I swear, this might be the last honest and affordable garage around - no joke! I have an older suburban and had them change a squealing belt and arm to the belt, then a week later i had an oil change with a (real) lube job and they greased the joints, those speedy oil change places dont really do that.. i also had them clean the yellow out of the headlight lenses to brighten the night roads, and because the truck is older, i needed to have the locks fixed, and get an inspection sticker. many of these were separate visits and the main mechanic there, Tyler, was so cool to me every time. Just seems like a nice guy on top of what hes doing for all the customers there. If you want to wait there, theres not a ton of space to hang out, BUT there are a couple local businesses around to eat, get coffee or work on a wifi while my rig is getting fixed just around the corner. No BS from these guys, just truthful, fast service. I wish I lived on the east coast and could take my LA cars to them whenever I need them..My ONLY wish (and its not a complaint) is that they took credit cards, but I do appreciate the smart business sense that some men/women who choose to not use a merchant company and save themselves quite a bit by doing cash only. I dont mind, theyre just that good!I trust them and would happily get cash in the ATM to pay them.
Ive been a satisfied customer of Hills for over 8 years. Richard and Paul have always done the work correctly and I never felt they were doing more than the cars needed. When they did a particularly tricky replacement of an exhaust part on my 96 Maxima, I know they spent more time than they put in the estimate, but Richard would not charge for the extra time. The recent addition of Tyler has brought renewed enthusiasm and eclectic knowledge to the business. I cant say enough for these outstanding mechanics, businessmen and neighbors. They are a credit to the community.
Took my 03 Ranger here yesterday with some small concerns I wanted to get checked out as Im going to be on the road all next week. They took me last minute, complete the check out on the same day. And told me what I did and didnt need, which was less than I what I asked for. Overall a really nice experience. Hills has found themselves another repeat customer.
Our experience was simply a call to get our bike tires pumped up. They were very helpful and went out of their way to find us some valve caps.
Ive been a long-time customer of Hills Service in South Portland and all I can say is thank god for these guys!!! Ive recommended them to all of my friends and Ive never had a single negative experience there. All of the guys that work there are super friendly and honest. They shop around for the most affordable parts and they charge only for the time they actually work on your car and they dont round up! Ive had many experiences where Richard has told me that I dont need to do the work yet, that I could drive it for a few thousand miles more or that the dealership just told me that I needed a new exhaust system when it was fine! I have a Volvo and Hills is the only reason I can afford it. There are two new younger guys that work there - Tylor and Mike and they are total sweethearts! Im not sure what the guy that wrote the one bad review is even talking about. First of all, the owner is super and secondly, Tylor is amazing too and I trust them all and Paul is really experienced and very kind. If youre looking for a new mechanic that will get to know your car and remember your name, come to Hills! Just dont take my appointment :)
Agree with the other reviews. Over the years, they have saved me many many dollars over others. Recently, my daughter got an estimate for some extensive work from a Connecticut garage for $1,900. I had her bring the car back to Maine. Drove out of Richards shop for $750. Cars are expensive. They have to be maintained and repaired. This is the place to do that. In the past, I have replaced full disc (calipers, rotors and pads) and drum brakes on my own cars in my driveway. I replaced a muffler and a radiator on a Chevette in my driveway. I replaced 2 electric window regulators on a Corolla, and more. I have a pretty good knowledge of and direct experience with the mechanics of automobiles. Hills is who I trust to do my repairs and maintenance.
I was treated fairly and with respect. The guys got my car inspected and fixed up all within an hour. The only quasi negative thing is be prepared because they are cash only!
Waste of my time:These guys did my inspection but wouldnt put on the sticker because I hadnt put my Maine plates on yet. They wanted $10 to put them on, so I told them Id do it. They said to just come back by with them on and theyd put the sticker on, no problem. I tried and learned one of my license plate screws was stripped so I came back and asked if theyd still put the plates on. They said they couldnt till Monday). I left and figured it out and came back with my plates on. Now they said Id have to come back Monday to get the sticker. I complained that Id already paid for the sticker. The woman shed just give me my money back, which she did, somewhat aggressively, and then said Dont come back.I didnt understand why they couldnt hold up their end of the deal. The original inspection was an appointment made a week in advance. Or at least they could have said they wouldnt put the sticker on that day before they did the inspection, or before sending me away telling me they would. And I still dont understand why she was so rude about it.
Always friendly and always fair. I will be taking my truck to Hills for many years to come!
Always great service!
Service is great
