The staff are very kind and funny! Chess Ceramics has the biggest collection of greenware pieces Ive seen! So many options to choose from, such as dragons, birds, and functional ware such cups and vases. Prices are really reasonable! Whats great is that you can work on their the greenware after you buy it, with a table price, you can glaze and fire your work! Everyone who loves working with their hands and doing crafts or art work should come here!
This place feels so natural. Just get in here be at home, and ask questions. Do what youre told, itll go well, and youll probably have a laugh with Wanda.I have not utilized their talents, but it seems like a place to check out if you want anything restored. Help to do yourself, and they do it for you.Place has been here for years, and its always delightfully the same.
Helpful, knowledgeable, good-humored staff will help you with a thing you need to throw your own pieces, paint pre-poured pieces, and fire everything. They have all the pottery supplies you could need, and really great prices for clay and paint! They also provide tables with table fees to use their tools and paint supplies, which saves me a TON. Love it, and will continue to be a very loyal frequenter.
Very nice, knowledgeable and great humor. Will always be my go to for ceramics.
We went to use our gift card. It was a fun time! They helped us whenever we needed it, and the conversation was lively. Well definitely be back.
I have been going to chess ceramics for many years now! I had some trouble in the past but now all the new employees that are there are wonderful!!! Very helpful and actually fun to talk to! After 10 years of going there for the first time ever I actually want to go there and spend time painting with them! Because they were just so inviting! Cant wait to go back as soon as possible!!! Thanks ladies! 😊
My husband is a ceramicist and this is one of the only places in town that he will buy his supplies from. It is family owned and has been in business for years. The staff is very friendly. They have one of the biggest selections of paint your own ceramics I have ever seen! Definitely worth a visit if you want to be creative for a day. They will even teach you techniques for painting your piece. You can also rent kiln space here.
I was looking for somewhere to purchase a bisque vase to paint with acrylics. I was directed to Chess by our local art supply store and I was so pleasantly surprised by what I found when I wandered into this this wonderland of painting opportunities. They carry a small collection of bisque but a gigantic selection of pre-fired clay moldings that you can purchase, clean up and customize(either at the store using their tools and guidance or take it home and bring it back later) then they will fire it for you for a small fee. You can paint it in their store using their paints for a fee or bring in your own, or just take it home and paint it. When you are finished they will put a finisher on it if you would like. They have alot of regulars who come in and sit, chat, paint, and are so nice and helpful to a newbie. I spent about an hour sitting at a table and cleaning up a vase yesterday and felt so comfortable asking for help or when I had questions about how to do something. It is a great casual atmosphere for anyone without small children as this place is so packed with breakables that even I needed to be careful in the isles. This place is truly a Spokane hidden treasure. I cant wait to pick up my vase and begin painting it.
Great local business and wonderful people.
Everyone is so helpful and fun. Theres joking around and theres serious help when needed. The greenware is well done and if not, they will make available what you want.
Walked around, had cool things. Didnt buy anything. Not what I expected, was more of an advanced Color-Me-Mine.
I have been coming to Chess Ceramic for several years now. I truly enjoy the atmosphere, the people, the instruction...and I needed a lot of that! Ceramics was very new to me when I first started doing it. And now I truly love it. I spend hours at the shop...helping out and creating. I also spend hours at home creating and painting. I am addicted! Thanks to all the positive things Ive learned at Chess.
I love these people!!! The small ceramics are around 3-10 bucks depending on if you want to clean them or not. I grew up with my family having their own molds and kilns so I get a bit of sticker shock. (They were always free to me) :D I love their selection though and they give you the option to clean your own greenware and save yourself some money. Real down to earth people. (Thats the best compliment ever, coming from me).
Only place to find Greenware in Spokane! Nice selection. Very helpful shopowner. Free classes and reasonable prices for paints!
We have done business with this store for years and have NEVER been disappointed or had anything taken because those who work there are HONEST - in all likelihood the person who left a message without identity (Google User) making accusations of theft is avoiding the responsibility of losing their own personal property - we HIGHLY RECOMMEND this store if you want an awesome ceramic experience here in Spokane Washington.....
They are friendly and encouraging. They had us pick out what we needed. Then we paid them to paint it and fire it. When we returned it was a different design but basically the same type and it fit so we accepted it.
The service and people here were fantastic. Very helpful and informative. I highly recommend chess ceramic for you ceramic needs.
I went to this store to get a couple of fire bricks and was very surprised by the inventory. This place is much bigger than you would believe when you drive by it on Nevada. Very friendly staff and a good price on the bricks.
Lots of molds to choose from, always very helpful and friendly service and they even have painting classes!!!! Love this place
Very fun. Great for beginners, well supplied for advanced ceramists.

Great selection of greenware. Friendly people. Very knowledgeable and helpful.
Great place, awesome people, beautiful ceramics and artwork
Good amount of selection and people willing to teach. There is added cost to what is labeled though for firing and painting, a fair price but additional.
Good for crafting ceramics social interaction
Prices have went way to high.
Always a great place!
Messy. Staff unhelpful.
Thats where you go for supplies
