I thanked your bartender for preparing me a very tasty cappuccino a week ago. I also thanked your staff for serving it quickly. I like the ambiance of your coffee shop because it was so classy and elegant. I couldnt ask for more from you, guys! You deserve to be on top! Youre highly recommended!
Very rude and unfriendly manager and staff. I get a friendlier environment at half the price in Dunkin’ Donuts
I found out about sweet science coffee in the daily coffee news. I realized I had to go and I walked over 40 minutes to get there and back. I would have walked much, much further. I have been to many coffee shops in many cities in the United States and most have pastries. This coffee shop pastries are beyond outstanding. So much so that I left with two bags of the pastries. Even if you are not a coffee drinker its worth going simply for the pastries. They have two talented pastry chefs on-site and that makes all the difference. It is also my understanding that in the afternoon there is a different pastry offering which I have not yet had the pleasure of trying. When it comes to the coffee this is a very unique shop in that they have your typical espresso drinks but with very great coffees. In the multiple brewing area, which opens at 10:00 a.m. daily, those really interested exploring the limitless bounds of coffee flavors will be delighted with all the options. Hopefully, the photos will give you a good idea of the ever-changing coffee options and the available brewing methods. One of the very unique aspects of this coffee shop is that they determine which brew method is the best for a specific coffee and yes you should leave it to the professionals. I see this more and more at the better coffee shops where they will use the brew method that best suits the coffees flavor profile. You will have the opportunity to taste coffee flavors that you would never think are possible. Enjoy.
The atmosphere is lovely; there is free wifi; a great place to bring a book or work on your computer during the weekday. Street parking available but it may be difficult to find a spot. I ordered oatmeal and a café au lait, and the barista brought it to my seat. I thought it was very kind and made my experience happy.
I thanked you for serving me with a very tasty Caffè Americano. This coffee flavor is my number one favorite, and I was so happy that you got my taste, guys. I like the place because it was so peaceful and cozy. If you care about the tasty coffee and wonderful place, I can recommend this coffee shop to you. Truly impressive!
Very expensive for what they offer. Food and coffee are mediocre at best with lackluster customer service. Much better options in the area such as Creative Grounds on North Capitol!
Stopped by Sweet Science Coffee in Arlington, VA again and had one of the best espresso shots (a Rwandan coffee) wed tasted in years, notes of sweet cherry and brown sugar. Also had a house iced coffee that was a Nicaraguan and Papua New Guinea. It had notes of apricot and awesome sweetness, even shining through the milk. Was also blown away by the farm-specific coffee options for coffee beans to take home. And had a killer chocolate chip cookie fresh out of the oven. What a taste experience!
Tried a couple of the specialty drinks (sesame lattè and the elderberry mint cold brew). We each forced down a few sips before leaving without finishing. Not sure how the more traditional drinks are, but I would stay away from the specialty drinks, ours were seriously terrible and were overpriced even if theyd been good (over $8 each with tax and tip). The mint cold brew tasted like something had gone bad.
Great spot, absolutely horrendous iced chai. Tasted like spiced water. Took two sips and tossed it. Not worth the $6.
Great coffee. Cappuccino was flavorful and aromatic. Cant say much more
There’s a new coffee shop in town and its story tells an important lesson- slow down. Slow-brewing locally (Open Seas Coffee) and globally (Berlins Five Elephant) roasted coffee in eight different devises, customers are invited to put down their phones, watch the brewing process, study the molecules of caffeine designed into the floor or enjoy the smell of elderflower pear muffins baking.Once a pop-up, Sweet Science’s permanent home is in the north side of NoMa near North Capitol Street. Its in the bottom floor of a new apartment building next door to the future home of pizzeria Menomale. The space is large with window sitting, tables along the walls, and a long wooden community table in the back. Outlets are plentiful and wifi strong. The staff are friendly and more than willing to recommend the perfect brew for you. My latte was well crafted and creamy. The only suggestion I have is to find a different price point for the pastries. I ordered the elderflower pear muffin and it was very small (the tiniest muffin Ive ever had from a coffee shop). I didnt mind the size, but with a $4+ price point, it left a sour taste in my mouth.Other than that, Sweet Science Coffee was a wonderful experience. I recommend it!
I have been obsessed with coffee and its acquisition and brewing for over a decade so know when I tell you I had one of the best coffees of my life here that I am not messing around. Go to here. Get the thing. Get all the thing.
Its a nice place but I was served a lukewarm americano. The pastries are a little overpriced too.
Excellent coffee shop; one of the best I can think of in NE or SE. I will be stopping back when I am in the NoMA neighborhood.
Really good espresso tonic. Get it if you’ve never had one before.
The staff was very kind, the service was quick, and the drinks were delicious. My husband got the americano and I got a Oatmilk Matcha.
Coffee and banana loaf was great!Finding parking is a real challenge...
Local owned and operated coffee shop. Very nice atmosphere. Delicious coffee and pastries available.
Rude lady manager with glasses questioning the authenticity of my dog being a service animal, which he is. Then proceed to be rude while taking my order and just looked disgusted to even serve me. Espresso is sub par, not even worth your time.
Love this unique vibe. If you love a good strong quality espresso, this place is a must!
New favorite iced coffee.
You can tell that the coffee is high quality, the housemade syrups and sauces are consistently delicious, and the meringues they incorporate into some of their drinks are a nice touch. The staff is also friendly and helpful, and I’d definitely recommend stopping by.
The barista knew the product like the back of their hand and gave excellent recommendations. The atmosphere is excellent, idk what their playlist was but it was very well curated. I only got coffee today (it was super tasty) but the pastries looked so good Ill definitely be back
A little different but the baked goods were pretty yummy.
Amazing specialty drinks and really fantastic quality espresso. Really enjoyed all the options and the hospitality. I recommend heavily for any coffee fanatics!
Absolutely fantastic coffee shop steps from Metro and a short walk to Union Market. The decor is unique, the coffee is delicious, and the house-made goodies are not to be missed. A few of my faves are the classic latte and the breakwich, but soooo many other things are equally tasty. They are also doing a wonderful job respecting safety protocols during Covid. Highly recommend!
Recently discovered this place while looking for independent coffee shops in my new-ish neighborhood and it was fantastic. Great customer service and both of us who went loved our coffees. Definitely will be back soon.
I like this place. Its quiet! They have a lot of vegetarian house made desserts, and a lot of specialty coffee. Its a bit hard to find I wish the google maps pin was a bit more accurate. But overall I definitely will be back.
Really impressed with Sweet Sciences new location. Introspective vibe brimming with coffee chemistry devices. I was really impressed with the high quality coffees available and the super knowledgeable staff as picking quality coffee can be super intimidating!
Perfect place for coffee fanatics! I got a Costa Rica Cold brew, which was good. My friend and I were sitting along the bar looking at the various forms of brewing equipment that they had, and the workers were knowledgeable in teaching us about it. I am definitely gonna try and come back as often to try all their different coffees.
Wonderful! This place is one of a kind and I really enjoyed my time here. If you area a fan of the Chai Tea Latte, you will need to come here to try it out. Amazing food, fair prices and kind people. Also a very relaxing place to come and study or work.
Not your typical coffee shop - a must-see for those who like quaint or things with a twist. Cool, hip coffee shop with nice, relaxing vibes. Lots of hot/cold options to choose from, some unheard and great combinations like the coffee with soda and lime. Nice place to meet friends, do work or read any of the wide selections of books they have on the shelves. You will definitely enjoy and stay for at least 1 hour.
My sister and I really love to spend time at a coffee shop. Since I have discovered this place, we became a regular customer right away. The servers are very welcoming. They always greet us with a big smile on their faces.
I came to the coffee shop yesterday and my experience was so nice the cashier Harrison was so helpful and polite with a big smile on his face
You can get a delicious cup of coffee here. Im not typically a cold brew person, but I like the cold brew at Sweet Science, Ill definitely go back for another.I had a coffee date here recently and he kept complimenting the design and vibe of the place. The service is timely and thoughtful. Ask for recommendations based on what youre in the mood for.The location is in the basement level and there isnt a big sign to grab your attention so look for the black stand-up board outside on the sidewalk, then down to the side of a CRU sign for the entrance.
Best coffee in DC. Their beans are fresh and varied, and they use different brewing methods that complement the flavor of their brands. The espresso drinks are also quality, with an attention to the consistency and feel of the foam. The iced coffee is the best I have had anywhere; it is a cold brew, free of the bitterness you find in many iced coffees. The owner has an unparalleled understanding of and passion for coffee. Its truly amazing. Definitely worth stopping by.
A really pleasant experience. Everyone who works here, and seemingly most of the people who drink coffee here, is very kind and thoughtful, and they make delicious coffee. Look for the iced latte and iced mocha for the best cool coffee this summer (and maybe all other times too).
Such a great coffee shop! Theres lots of seating, delicious coffee, and delightful people. Its a bit hard to find but look for the street address and youll find it, just go down the stairs. Perfect for a sit-and-study or a coffee date!
Excellent espresso with high quality coffee & very considerate service!
This cool and cozy underground coffee shop is my favorite for casual meet ups and for working remotely. The music is mellow and non-invasive; there is comfortable and practical seating (couches, cushioned benches, regular tables, coffee tables); the lighting is relaxing; the noise level is low; and the coffee is delicious. It seems to attract a young crowd (25-40) and it wasnt too crowded. My first time I thought it was a little tough to find as you have to go through a place called LaPop and then down stairs. Warning: little to no cell phone reception (but who cares, its more relaxing that way) and no windows. Ill be back!
The 2 times I went was awesome!!!! Friendly staff, amazing coffee and just a cool vibe!! welcome to the neighborhood!!
The place is really hard to find. I was staggering around in the cold for a few minutes before I realized it was in the basement of one of the buildings. Mocha cappuccino was delicious with an artfully constructed foam top. This place has WiFi so there are usually quite a few people working. Modern and comfy atmosphere.
Amazing spot. They really care about their craft....
Excellent selection of coffees from across the country. Fantastic cold brew! Will have to keep coming back to try all of the different brewing methods offered...
Sweet Science is now called La Pop and it is very much open! This is one of my favorite places to work and meet with others. I have introduced several people to this location. The spicy hot chocolate with oatmilk is to die for, the coffee is great, the staff is pleasant and the service is fantastic.
Atmosphere was good. Coffee was great.
Ok coffee; extremely annoying internet policy (one-hour limit with a two-hour lockout).
Recency effect may be at play, but I want to say this is this Sweet Science Drip is the best cup of coffee Ive ever had.The aesthetic is great - its a nice blend between modern and rustic.
It is hidden at a beautiful basement, very spacious, great warm tones and black colors, good bathrooms, great coffee, lattes and mocha, the barista is awesome and laid back. It is never too packed. I love it that way!!!!!
Quaint establishment with pretty flavorful coffee. Unfortunately, they dont provide WiFi on weekends to paying customers, hence the two stars. Barista said it was because they wanted to inspire an atmosphere for conversation. Unfortunately, no one was there, so it was frustrating not being able to use such a nice establishment as a place to get work completed. I get that this is becoming a trendy thing for DC coffee shops to do, but it makes it difficult to enjoy the experience. Its not getting in the way of the ambience right now, and I dont expect that it will, given location. Oh well -- fun place to check out! Was hopeful itd become my local weekend coffee shop. Will stick to the neighborhood Starbucks on 18th and Columbia. Much better place for young professionals in need of a productive afternoon.
Quaint and quiet. EXCELLENT service. Serves a truly superb and complex cup of joe.
Lovely place and very friendly people. Their variety of cold brewed coffee is superb.
One of the most underrated coffee shops in DC. Not well lit but a great, urban chic ambiance.
My second home for the summer while studying for the Bar. Sockets, WiFi, great coffee and excellent staff.
B: Enter through the gift shop for a treat.A: Great choice of brewing methods with well selected beans.
Cool basement location with laid back atmosphere; affordable drinks; good selection of iced teas
Beautiful underground coffee shop, great for reading, mingling in a small group or working. Relatively empty on a Sunday afternoon.
Spacious, sun lit, ok food & coffee. WiFi.
Lots of seating and good prices.
Incredible space to relax and focus in.
Awesome coffee and neat area
This is one of the must visit espresso places in DC.
