Local! successful! User friendly! family owned for over 50 years. one of Ashevilles finest if not the finest
I came here because of reviews saying it was fairly priced and then get charged $1k straight out the bat for a problem I didnt even come in for and then after charging me $1k they obviously didnt even look at the main issue that I told them about prior to even coming and now I am stuck with a bill just as large at another for the actual issue, which the other shop quoted me $400 less for the same repairs I was charged $1k for here. This is also the only shop Ive ever seen not let me bring my own part. Its very obvious this is a money scheme shop and I would highly recommend you take your vehicle somewhere else.
Long story short: we were on vacation and thought we might have to replace our transmission (slipping in low gears in the mountains). The mechanic was so knowledgable that he knew the problem, tapped a plug, and everything was fine.Bottom line: in a situation where we could have been completely taken advantage of, we were treated with competency, professionalism, and werent even charged for the diagnosis.Cant say enough about this place!!!
Amy was super helpful. I highly recommend this place! They have done nothing but make me less stressed and help out every way they could. They are great at being personable and doing the right thing for who comes in.. not just trying to make their money . Prices were great and the way the made me feel even better thank you so much for everything super blessed to have been referred to them!I will definitely send people this way and come back if I need!
Not the most modern building, but they are friendly and efficient. They explained needed repairs very clearly .
This is a review of service I had on my car 2 years ago. At the time City Transmission was recommended to me by my mechanic, I was pretty trusting. In the end, City Transmission kept my car (a 1998 Toyota Camry) for 3 weeks to repair. During the 3 weeks I would random texts from someone there saying my car was ready to be picked up and then a few minutes later a lady would call me and tell me it wasnt actually ready. I was happy to be patient, they have my car after all, no problem, I am pretty chill, no worries. 3 weeks, $3,000, and a year and a half later, my car starts to have issues. Less than 50,000 miles and my car needs a new transmission. Other services I paid for (like struts) were not done, and if they did take a part off of my car, they certainly did not use new parts. I had multiple people look at my car and had multiple people check out the paperwork I was given, and they all laughed. One stated that the rear stuts on my car looked to be the original if not very old struts. Ive thought a lot about posting a negative review, a lot of time has passed, and I ended up getting a new car once my car needed another transmission, I dont appreciate spending that amount of money for Im not even sure what I got and being taken advantage of.In response to your comment: ok, it was an estimate I have a copy of. That’s an even more terrible response, which further begs the question of, I have no idea what you did to my car for 3 weeks and almost $3,000.
I dont live in Asheville, but my daughter goes to college there and Amy has helped me several times fixing my daughters car. She is a wonderful person.
Very professionally operated business. I have all the confidence in their service and will recommend them to others.
City Transmission is a great place to do business. They are print, courteous, and very fair on pricing. I recommend everyone needing most kinds of automobile service to call or go by City Transmission and see for yourself. Get a quote. Compare and the service will make the decision very simple.
Job done well. Great communication. Nice people to work with.
When we experienced a major auto issue I called multiple transmission service companies to try and analyze what might be our best option and finally settled on City Transmission for various reasons; mainly word-of-mouth and past service history. To be relatively concise, these folks were great! I dealt pretty much exclusively with Tyler who endeavored to make sure what was obviously going to be an expensive process ran as smoothly and consistently as possible. During each phone call he ran over all over the possibilities and in the end helped my wife and me settle on a plan that was both realistic to our needs and most compatible with our budget. The car was returned to us timely and neat as a pin. Thanks Tyler and thanks City Transmission!
Crown Electric Services loves the work City Transmission has done for us! Extremely knowledgeable, fair prices, timely completion! Thanks for keeping my Nissan running.
Cindy and Amy are awesome, these two ladies know their car info. City tramission break your car down find the problem, they dont charge unless they find problem, then they go step by step to let you know whats going on with your vehicle, if you dont wnt to get it fixed then they only charge for finding the problem, they are fair and customer service is great!!!
Passing through the area and experienced a transmission failure. Called a number of places, most said they couldnt diagnose until the following day at the earliest. Needed to continue my trip. This place diagnosed my vehicle same day, had a new transmission arrive the following morning, and got me back on the road that evening. Thanks!
Very fair pricing and great communication! Highly recommended. Its easy to get ripped off with car repairs. These people do right by you.
Was driving by and got a flat tire, and pulled over to use their lot to change it. My car’s low profile meant that I needed to borrow some boards to drive up on to fit my jack, and I went inside and everybody was super kind. One of the guys even came out with a compressor to see if he could refill the tire. They were all really polite and helpful
City Transmission is the best place to go for transmission work. Over the years, I have had to have 3 transmissions done in the cars Ive owned. They are extremely knowledgeable, reasonable, and courteous. I would never take my vehicle anywhere else for this type of service. You will not be disappointed.
My go-to place for auto work. Very staff member is very personable as well as competent at their job. I wouldnt trust my car in anyone elses hands.
A most pleasant repair experience. Two other transmission shops in Asheville refused to even look at my car as this model was said to be difficult too work on and find available parts for (a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport). City Transmission not only was willing to diagnose the problem, but they fixed it for a very nominal fee. As honest as the day is long.
This is the only place I take my trucks for repair
City Transmission has been more than helpful. We had an issue that the transmission diagnostics test would not let them know what was wrong with the transmission. They helped us find a place that would be able to diagnosis the problem with the transmission. City Transmission made all the arrangement for us. They went way beyond what customer service would have done.
Transmission City were able to fix our vehicle very quickly and at a fair price. They were very nice, honest and were looking to save me money in any way possible. Ill be back again!
Great people, great work, done fast. They arent happy until the customer is. What more could you want?
They are the best. They went way way beyond taking care of me. I have never been treated this well by any business. They treated me like family. The price was good also. I recommend them very much. Five stars!!
I highly recommend City Transmission for any work needed on your vehicle. I have used their expertise on two different cars and they have fixed the problem. This was after taking both to the big box dealerships, that could not figure out the issue. The staff is always understanding of my needs and have been able to assists me in a crunch. I will always recommend them for any car repairs! Thank you !
I am so very impressed and thrilled with these very nice people at City Transmission. They really care, they wont rip you off, and they are mechanically gifted! You cant go wrong with this company. Honesty is so important, and they were straight up
Friendly & fast service however final bill was $170 over estimate and I did not receive a phone call asking if this was okay. The price ended up being $100 over every other estimate I received which included the dealership. The parts were apparently quoted incorrectly when I originally brought the car in and the only statement I received was they probably should have called.
Im.so very thankful I took my 2008 dodge charger here to city transmission, the staff was upfront and honest about what I needed and the price was a blessing. Thanks to everyone at city transmission for your hard work and honesty..I would highly recommend this transmission shop over any other shop in this state .
Excellent service - straightforward folks with an accurate estimate. Replaced a motor mount while working on the clutch. Let me know about addl needs in the future without pressure. Drives better than when I bought the darn thing. Thanks!
They’ve worked on two of our cars. In both cases the work was good and reasonably priced.
This place is great. Had my nephew fromIowa here and something weird happened to the transmission in his jeep. Skyland, the Jeep dealer would not even look at it for nearly a week. This place looked at it in 10 minutes. They discovered that a safety switch got flipped and the car was dead in the water. They fixed it, test drove it and certified it was OK. They would not take a dime for all their effort. Said there was nothing wrong with the transmission so they felt we owed them nothing! Like I said this place is great! 5 stars no problem!
Down home hospitality and just plain honest folks!! I know nothing about transmissions, my car was acting up something awful, the transmission fluid was leaking everywhere and I though t I was in for some major repairs and was gonna have to spend a fortune, hell they could have told me anything, I wouldnt have known the difference. So I left the car with them and went home and waited for THE CALL to tell me how expensive it was gonna be........................NOT SO AT ALL !! Turns out they test drove it and found it was a small little filter that was clogged, causing the fluid to back up and leak, So he cleaned and replaced the filter and the car ran better than it had in years. Best of all he only charged me $40.00 !!! Thats Honesty !! Thanks Guys Your the BEST !!
I highly recommend this place! The staff are kind, patient, honest, and trustworthy. I will definitely be bringing my Ford Escape back in the future!
We cannot say enough nice things about City Transmission!!!! They are kind, caring, priced fairly and have great communication skills!!!!! We have struggled to find our auto mechanic over the past few years, and thankfully that struggle is over!!! 😍
We where down for a family emergency from upstate NY and had transmission problems and they where able to get us right in, very nice people and very professional. I would bring any auto work to them in a heartbeat
Good, honest people! Work done in a timely matter. Highly recommend.
I had one of my rollbacks in here to get a transfer case diagnosed and fixed, and to get a transmission leak fixed. I paid almost $1000 for them to put a new shift motor in the transfer case, and to fix the transmission leak. It was a lot but I thought it was worth it to know that it was done right. The transfer case was still making a weird noise when put into 4x4, but they told me it just needed a new u-joint in the driveshaft and besides that would be good to go. A few days later we find that the transmission is still leaking, and that a metal transmission cooler line has split. So I pay $300 for the new lines and my mechanic puts the lines on. Now here we are a couple of weeks later, and the transmission has detonated internally. I take it back up here, and they check fluid and its completely black. So they didnt do the full service on the transfer case I was under the impression they had done. They tell me that the chain was loose and thats what was making the noise and what caused the destruction of the transfer case. Then they tell me I need to pay them for the labor to diagnose the new issue, and it would be 2-3k$ for a new transfer case. I try to talk to the people in the office, and they get an attitude with me, saying that they dont have x-ray vision and that none of this is there fault. Then they make me leave the building and tell me theyll call me when they have it put back together. Ive been recommending this shop to all of the AAA members we tow, looks like well have to find a new one. Completely inconsiderate, rude, and terrible people to work with.
Well where do I begin? My mechanic was not sure what was causing my car to vibrate. He sent me to City Transmission . They diagnosed that vibration was caused by faulty drive shaft which surprised my mechanic Well after spending $800 it is still vibrating, absolutely no change. Initially they said vibration was not good but now they are saying its front axels and not to worry. Also this could be a good thing, they quoted me over $700 just for drive shaft but after I stated they are priced around $450 on line they dropped price to $600 for the part. Not gonna play this game and wont go back.
I got a fluid and filter change here and had a pretty positive experience.
Went in to check on a leak from my transmission. They said they would call in a little over an hour, but never did. So I called and they said what the cost would be for the gasket, but she needed to talk to the technician to find out the hourly charge. Came back to the phone and said it would cost fifteen dollars more for the gasket, since they wanted to use a better quality one and then the hourly charge, all totaling about $200. I said thanks and I would be over to pick up the car, because I was checking around. Went to pick it up, and she said they put it up on the lift for a second time (why twice?), and they hadnt taken it down. We waited and she said it would cost about $50 for looking at the car. There was no mention of that earlier, as other mechanics will look without a charge, so I assumed it would be the same here. She became angry at my questioning the cost and said they werent a non-profit and needed to charge for putting the car on the lift and the technicians time. I said it would be important to tell people about upfront costs. She reduced the cost by half and then said that the hourly rate would be between $90 - $170. Why not say this before? I then went to another place that looked at the car, on a lift, showed me the leak and said it wasnt problematic. And, my make of car didnt have a gasket, but one would need to do extensive work to redo the transmission. He said it wasnt worth it, since the leak was minimal. He didnt charge a penny for his time! I will go back to him for auto work. City transmission has poor communication skills, on top of that, wanting to charge for something that wasnt needed (gasket) and not specifying up-front what a diagnostic evaluation would cost. Frankly, I think they are a rip-off.
Very friendly employees and the lady in the front is very helpful
Sadly, we had get a refund. They diagnosed our transmission wrong, charged us $1300 ahead for parts, and when they came in the parts were wrong. We called and they forgot who we were! That was the final straw. I cannot recommend City Transmission. Mr. Transmission is better.
Good honest people. Changed the transmission fluid on our Amanti, which doesnt have a filter but a screen that has to be cleaned, so was less money than originally quoted. Another tranny place in town quoted for almost $100 more.
Had our truck break down while in town for vacation. They handled the tow and made us a priority when we got to the shop. Very friendly and great service!
Always a pleasure.
This is my second time to use the services of City Transmission Services. The first time was a couple of years ago when my trans died on the interstate. I was leery of being taken advantage of since Im from out of state, but I found them not only friendly and helpful (giving me priority since I was not from the area), but I found their prices to be very reasonable.I recently bought a car, knowing it needed a trans rebuild, and combining a trip to Asheville for a family get-togather, I brought the car to them for the service. I recommend them highly.
Knowledgeable with fantastic service. If I ever need help with another transmission, I will be calling City Transmission Service. I just really liked them.
This should be your first stop if you have a car issue. Cindy, Bobby and Amy will know exactly what to do.
I have been using City Transmission exclusively for 7 years now along with all my family and I highly recommend them to anyone in need of automechanical repair!! Their service is fast, thorough, and oh so good! I have been repeatedly impressed each time Ive used them. They are extremely friendly and good wholesome people. I know everyone in the front office as well as the garage by name and they are some of the finest people I know!! I now call them family!! They take outstanding care of every vehicle they touch. City Transmission has the qualities of a time long gone where a business provides the best service possible, stands behind their work, offers the best prices in town and genuinely cares about your vehicle AND the person driving it!! Give them your business...youll be soooo glad you did!I rate them 5 Hearts!!❤❤❤❤❤Debra Beal
They were very knowledgeable and nice. Highly recommend.
We were visiting Asheville for the weekend when our transmission went out 30 miles west of the city. While waiting for a tow truck I googled Transmission Repair in Asheville and saw that City Transmission had good reviews. After getting towed to the shop, they got our car in and did some diagnostic tests. Unfortunately the transmission did need to be rebuilt/replaced and City very quickly got use quotes for each option and provided guidance on best next steps. We advised then that wed have to tow the car back and asked what we owed them for the diagnostic work. Even though they knew that there would be no further service completed there they told us there was no charge. We were pretty concerned with people trying to take advantage of us once they knew we were from out of town and had limited options but were very pleased with City Transmission and their excellent customer service.
Simply the best. better than all the rest
I am Pastor Creighton Lovelace of Danieltown Baptist Church, Forest City, NC. My wife was diagnosed with adenomcarcinoma cancer on June 20 after being in Mission Memorial for 5 days, 3 days later we were told it is terminal. I have thus been travelling back and forth (1 hour - 1 way) from home to the hospital. I was going on a usual overnight trip to Mission to stay on the morning of July 26. After I got off I-26 and onto Exit 1C to go via AMboy Road, my power died and as I mashed the gas pedal it revved and pretty much lost the forward motion of my 2011 Honda Accord. I pulled over to the side of the road where Riveview Drive tees into Amboy Road. After calling my Father-in-Law for his expertise I figured this was something to do with the Transmission. The car drove slowly in D3 so after a quick check on Google, I was directed to Precision Tune Auto Care where Mr. Carl Perkins looked at the Computer readout and told me there were two issues and one was related to the Transmission. He told me that he did not do Transmissions and my best bet would be up the road at City Transmission Service. So I dutifiully checked out Google and saw a 4.4 star out of 5 star rating. Thus I pulled up and was met by Mrs. Amy. This was about 10:00AM. Amy told me they would perform a courtesy check and that would be free and that if any of my fluids were low they would be filled and that I would have to pay for. So, I dropped the car off with them and rode back with my Father-In-Law to see my wife. At 12:44PM I got a call confirming my fluids were good but there were 2 issues and they requested a deeper diagnosis to be performed that would run me $107-$214. I told them to proceed. Another call came in at 1:19PM telling me a Pressure Clutch Solenoid was needed and had to be ordered and would come in the next day and that an O-Ring would be needed and a new rocker would likewise be needed. She told me the part would be looking at around $340ish so I told her All systems go even as I did my heart sank because as a preacher that travels Ive run 2 cars into the ground and Ive not even finished paying this car off yet and surely dont need any new woes on top of what we are going through now. I gave the issue to the Lord and focused on my wife. The next day (today) July 27 at 10:20 I called to see how the progress was doing. The Part had not arrived yet and calls were subsequently placed to ensure its arrival. Cindy Roberts told me that if she called back it would NOT be in today - she didnt call back which was a good thing. Mom and Dad were back to check on their daughter - my wife and to check on me. As the day wore on I began to get fitful knowing 5 o clock was coming and the shop would close for the weekend and Id REALLY be needing my car. So after forcing myself to be patient, I called them at 2:10PM and Cindy told me the part arrived, they were working on my car and were shooting to have it ready by 5 o clock. I asked what price Id be looking at. Cindy told me around $808ish total. I breathed a sigh of relief that it wasnt over $1000! I thanked her and hung up and then within 30 seconds she called me back and said they dont want to overcharge anybody and said that a second diagnostic had erringly showed up and that my actual bill would run me $606.02!! WOOHOO! Since, they were shooting to be done by 5PM, I asked my Father-In-Law to run me on down there about 3:30PM, so after goodbyes for the evening and loading my overnight bag, I showed up about 3:45PM this afternoon pulled out my novel and started reading. A little furry white dog ambled up to keep me company and Dad left out leaving me in their care. Cindy talked with me a bit and then at 4PM Amy called me up to the counter telling me my car was ready. She went over the bill and asked about my wife and how she was. She told me they would be thinking about us and wished us the best. I was given an itemized list and a customer care bag (thanks!) and I gave her a hug and thanked her for all they did for us! My car performed fine on the way home and it is still doing well. Thanks!
Local company that isvwilling to work with you. Recommended by AAA for transmission work
I brought my car in with transmission issues. I appreciated very much:- free initial diagnosis using scanner - doesnt include opening up anything but they could describe the problem and give an estimate, I like they gave me a detailed description of the issue- they helped me consider my options and gave some good advice for thinking through whether to pay for having the transmission rebuilt or selling the car- most awesome - they were willing to let me leave my car near their shop there for several days as I put up a craigslist ad to sell it, no pressureThey have a one year warranty, I think a 2 year warranty would be nice but 1 year is ok. The warranty is why I didnt pick Excellent.Overall a very good experience.Cant comment on the actual transmission work since I sold my car on craigslist, their estimate seemed reasonable and along the lines of what you pay anywhere for getting a transmission rebuilt. Selling on craigslist was the best choice and I was given plenty of time to work that whole thing out.
City Transmission had excellent reviews and was highly recommended by a good friend of mine. They have very nice smiley salesmen (and woman) in the upfront office. They performed work I did not authorize, namely topping off my fluids and putting on my door handle when I only asked for an estimate and a once-over. My fiance was adamant about me taking in my van that day to have it looked at before our trip to Michigan, and I didnt want to take it to her mechanic because they hate working on vans. City Transmission said my antifreeze level was at 20% which made since to me because I siphoned out half a gallon and put in 100% dextron which is the GM specified antifreeze. The mechanic thought it would be easy to drain, and it wasnt...after trying the ball/cock then trying to siphon (like I did) he had to pull the hose just like the last mechanic did...hope he didnt kink it like that guy did...now it seems like it is leaking again....also, Im not a mathmatician but putting a half-gallon of 50/50 all-purpose antifreeze (which they mixed) into a 3 gallon radiator doesnt make it go from 20 to 50%. And charging me $16 for it too! I insisted on keeping the other half gallon since I had already paid for it...Niceness only gets you so far in my book and it was nice they only charged me for a half/hour labor and it took longer...HONESTY is more important...WILL NOT be going back to City Transmission nor will I recommend them to any of my close friends.
Good honest folks.
Honest folks that know their stuff you dont have to worry about getting ripped off here
They are the best family owned andOperated business in Western NC
Fixed the clutch on a Swedish car most mechanics wouldnt touch with a 10ft pole. They beat the price of the out-of-town european import garage too.
They diagnosed my car for free after transmission blew out; they did not try to sell me on a rebuild that didnt make sense and allowed me to store my car in the lot until I found a buyer on Craigslist.
Top notch!
Took longer than expected by 4 days. A month later the rebuilt transmission locked up. In their favor they refunded me the tow bill and the bill from the other transmission company to fix it.
Wish we had these out in the country
Absolutely amazing
Expensive
