Its never fun when your car breaks down while out of town, especially in a big city like Houston where there are tons of auto shops to choose from, and not knowing which are honest and reputable. A thorough search on the Internet led me to Hare Repair, and Im incredibly thankful I ended up here.When trying to get it there Monday morning, my 4Runner completely died on me and had to get it towed to the shop. As soon as I stepped out of the tow truck, Jim was already outside telling me where we could put it and asking what was wrong. I left it with him for the day and it turns out it was just the alternator that had died. Replaced with a rebuilt OEM part and decided to put a new belt on it too just to be safe. Fair, straight price.I also had them inspect the entire vehicle to find out what else may be wrong, and he confirmed what another shop had told me, and also pointed out something new I didnt know before to have checked out once I got back home to Austin.Jim, Rhonda, Ruben - all of you were so kind and polite and great to interact with. You took all my stress away and got me driving again, and for that I thank you sincerely! Me and my family are safe and sound back in Austin thanks to you.For anybody reading this in the Houston area - this is your place. Hare Repair helped me out when I had my catalytic converter stolen from my car. I did not actually use this store for a repair, but I did call them multiple times to compare their prices and services to another store. Every time I called someone picked up the phone and was eager to help and answer all my odd questions. Really nice people who were really knowledgeable. I ended up selling my car as a complete salvage, but Hare Repair helped me know I have evaluated all options before making a decision.

I mean, what can you say bad about this place? Probably the most honest mechanic I have ever found. Took my car in for it not starting. Jim in his unique told me he could spend thousands on it, but it was just a bad terminal.. $25 car was fine. They really just want the best for you. Just an fyi I think Jim needs his own youtube channel. Guy is a hoot.

These guys are great. This is my first time at this shop. I ended up needing framework done, but Jim even called another shop that he trusted so that I could go there. Once I came back, they had me all fixed up (and I mean it was a LOT to fix) within 3 days of me dropping the car off. Rhonda is so pleasant and Jim is a real straight-shooter. I couldnt be happier with their service and I will recommend them to anyone I encounter.

They like fisherman hook you a couple of time discount and you may think they are fair and honest and later on they getting you trust them, they figure you wont look at the bills so carefully anymore so they will start charging you higher higher price without you knowing thats what they doing.Short story:. They will get back at you later by ....0ver 575 % make up on parts and add another 30% - 75% labor make up.Only couple time given me small break.But, long run and adding back on to my other repairs bills. They are very conniving.Last time, I was there,They lying to me about the wrong part actually Im paying them for good money and they actually overcharged me. when I look up the part on Google theyve been marking up the part and labor as well beyond 400 percent markup and also couple time, I catch them putting the wrong part and causing the car have more problem.By the way, they always use after market parts, and lying to you that using the best and charge you a premium price.The Hare auto repair shop is longer my favor anymore, due to they think, they should be like other people over charge or they know not too many good mechanic around, in pass years startprofit margins on parts charging customer in the typically average between 300% and 600 percent, make up while labor profit margins range also another make up adding on between 50 and 65 percent the labor costs on top also.Only reason I gave them to 1 star because they were very nice people in the beginning and only gave me a couple discount.And was told care two times repair on my car .No more referral to anybody.This is not a good professional business 😂😡😡 practice.Thats why people going credit card debt 😠😤 that because people like you causing the problem.

For more than 30 years this is where I have taken my vehicles for service and repair. I have dealt with them hundreds of times. In all that time I have never known them to be anything but competent, honest, courteous, and a pleasure to deal with. These are good people and, together, they have created an exceptional small business. Giving them the highest recommendation is very easy for me to do.

We’ve been going here for years and it’s always wonderful. Jim really takes care of you and does everything he can to help. I recently had to replace my fuel pump, he said he would be charging me $700. It hurt to hear that but looking up the part alone it would have been more than $900! My car has never had a problem leaving here.

Finding an honest, skilled, patient and knowledgeable mechanic in any city is no easy feat. Jim at Hare Repair is wonderful.. a straight shooter who won’t overcharge you or cheat you. His shop works on most car brands. I have sent my brother and father to Jim.. he has worked on our chevys, fords and Toyota’s, and can fix anything.

I was referred by a neighbor when my car would not start one morning. I was headed out of town and figured there was no way that I was going to make it now. I call and spoke to a very helpful lady named Rhonda and she set me up with a tow truck. Not only was my car fixed and ready for the road in time for me to leave town, but it was very reasonably priced and I had the friendliest service I’ve ever experienced!

Incredible service, had an issue with my windshield wipers, I was told it was going to be $120 and it happened to be something minor and was only charged $65 (other repair shops quoted 4x that). If you have any issues, make yourself a favor and go here!

Owner was arrogant and condescending to me. I had a vehicle inspected there that bought from a nearby used dealer. Although I think the inspection was thorough, when I questioned the owner about a 30+ % price markup on already expensive parts (pair of catalytic converters), he became defensive and condescending. I told him I was comparing his pricing to another highly rated mechanic I know and his was far more because of the exorbitant parts markup. Yes, I know its industry standard to mark up parts to add profit, but when savvy consumers can easily find parts cost on the internet, doesnt it make more sense to charge more for quality labor than to gouge on parts markups? A simple transparent explanation of this pricing method to customers would enable people to understand and appreciate the transparency.

Definitely recommend this place. Jim is a great guy. Very friendly service, accommodating, reasonable prices, and most importantly...HONEST. He will not sell you anything you dont need and he will be straight with you. He will call you before performing any work and explain exactly what is going on. Will not take my car anywhere else while I am in Houston.I had my struts replaced on my car by another mechanic shop 6 months ago and I was hearing a popping noise when turning the wheel. He checked it out and found that it was the strut mounts that were seizing up. Instead of doing the work himself, he suggested to go back to the place I got the work done to see if they would warrantee the work! This guy is very honest and is not there to scam you like many other shops!

Jim and Rhonda have been amazing over the last few years. They are incredibly honest about what work you need done. Their prices are completely reasonable and cheaper than any other places I have gotten quotes (sometimes by hundreds of dollars). Look up fair value for the work you need done for your car and they will be in the lower end of estimates. Definitely highly recommended!

Mechanics that I can actually trust... thats hard to find. Besides, theyre genuinely nice. They explain what your car needs, and the reason why it might or might not need service or a new part – sometimes they even show you the car part and where the problem is! Also, equally as important: the price is fair.

Weve brought all our vehicles to Hare Repair and we have had great service with every repair. Weve always dealt with Jim but Im sure all the other service folks are great as well. He will be direct with you...hell tell you how much estimated parts and labor to expect, will call you if they see anything of concern, and if theyre busy he will tell you and not give you false expectations. We like these guys, recommend them to our friends. Coming from a family full of mechanics and motor heads and living so far away from them, Im glad that I know of a repair shop that is nearby and trustworthy.

I had a timing belt snap. They repaired my car ultra fast, and gave me the no frills, (not recommended) cheap price if I was on a low budget, and they gave me the complete preventative maintenance price if I could afford to change the water pump, seals, etc. Havent seen many mechanics do that. They were very helpful. Friendly. Jim is the best

Great & honest prices, service, and advice.

The brakes on my car were making squeeky sounds, so I decided to get them checked out. After reading horror stories about other places such as Just Brakes, I decided to drive all the way down to Hare Repair. I live in the Southeast area of Houston, so it was a good 40 minute drive. I was greeted by the guys as soon as I got there. They were very friendly and made me feel at home.I was expecting to pay at least $200 (and thats being optimistic) for the brake services and I brought some books with me, anticipating that it would take a few hours. Fortunately, I was wrong. Jim showed me how the brakes work and told me that my brakes were fine. The only things he could find were some rust and dirt, so they removed that for me, cleaned up the brake plates and rotors, and only charged $50 for their services. Jim even jokingly said sorry we couldnt take more money from you. Everything was done in 30 minutes.All in all, it was a great experience and I would highly recommend you to take your car there if you have any problems. These guys are honest and will not try to rip you off. They saved me a bunch of money and definitely made my day.

Been here twice, first time to get my brakes fixed, second to get all 4 of my engine mounts replaced along with fixing an oil and power steering leak. Very honest and very good mechanics. Would recommend these guys to everyone in a heartbeat!

I went to Hare Repair due to a recommendation. I had gone to another mechanic center and they had told me I needed new struts. They were going to charge me $1,000+. I went to this place for a second opinion and they told me I did not need new struts and that my car is fine. Im definitely going back to them and I will be recommending them to my coworkers and relatives. The front desk lady was very helpful and Jim is very professional and transparent. Thank you!

Although I often use Google and Yelp to find well rated businesses, I never post any ratings or reviews of my experiences them. However, after speaking with Jim from Hare Repair, I knew I had to give credit and recognition for his honesty and guidance and write a review on Hare Repair. After explaining my vehicles symptoms and my best efforts to troubleshoot them, Jim gave me an honesty answer that saved me hundreds of dollars on repairs. Other mechanics I spoke to before Jim quoted the repair cost at hundreds and hundreds of dollars. After speaking with Jim, it became obvious those other mechanics were just trying to swindle me for every little penny.I highly recommend speaking with Jim and telling him what symptoms or problems your vehicle is experiencing, because it could save you hundreds on unnecessary repairs!

Took my car here last year, spent 1700 total in repairs, was told everything was fixed and I was good to drive it for another 100k miles. That weekend my head gasket blew when I drove to San Antonio. Fortunately I was able to make it back by pouring water into the radiator continuously. They told me to take it back in but at that point I was broke from what Id already paid them, and I didnt trust them to fix it properly anymore. Eventually saved up enough and took it to a better mechanic, who revealed that a lot of the parts I had paid hare repair for were crappy aftermarket parts. Spent a few more thousand dollars and I finally got a working car that hasnt given me any problems since.The only reason I didnt give 1 star was because they were very friendly and communicative.

I just came back from Hare Repair Inc. I am so happy right now. Not only because I got such a great service but also the problem of my car has been solved. My engine warning light was solid on dashboard the day before thanksgiving day and I was so worry about it. I called Hare Repair Inc. They called me back this morning and told me that they can check it for free. I went to the store, a nice young man found the problem immediately. Thats the problem of fuel tank cap. A very kind old man explain the reason and gave the advices. He was kind and humorous. I really like them. I will visit Hare Repair Inc if my car meets problem next time. I love Hare Repair Inc and it deverses its good reputation.

Drove 30 minutes here for a check engine light because this is THE best place to take your car for a 100% honest assessment and comprehensive repairs for your car that are reasonably priced. Only downside is theyre not open on Saturdays and dont do inspections.

Had a corroded battery and terminals that Mazda quoted me $1500 to fix. They did it for $188! Even squeezed me in without an appointment. Let me drop it off and had it ready by 9am the next morning!! Highly recommended! Will definitely continue to come here for all my car needs!

Trustworthy and professional. They will tell you if something doesnt need fixing and/Or give you most affordable options. I had an oil leak. Oil change shop said I needed a new oil pan. Took it to Jim to fix. He said the car has a minor engine leak that was not worth a 1200 repair on a 20 year old car. Integrity is rare these days.

Took care of my vehicle, fair price on a repair that other shops referred me to the dealer. Will return as needed, and refer services to friends, excellent work.

Before making a road trip to Michigan, I took my car in here to have it checked. My brakes were squeaking, engine made a clicking sound at low speeds, and it was very slow to turn over and start.Walking in, I was greeted by a very friendly man named Jim. I told him the issues and let him know I was driving to Michigan. They checked it out for free. In about 20 minutes, they diagnosed the problem as a bad battery and cracks in my drive belt. Both were legit issues. I knew the battery was getting old. The drive belts were also previously diagnosed as cracked but I held off on the replacement because of that other repair shops cost.At Hair Repair though, cost was not an issue. Jim gave me a line item estimate of $160 parts and $100 labor. $260 total! The other repair shop wanted more than that just for the belts. I waited about two hours for them to make a run to get the parts and complete the replacements. They also gave me special wiper fluid that wouldnt freeze up in Michigan. I paid via debit card and wished Jim a Happy Thanksgiving.Now, my car is running like new! Great and honest service. Excellent prices. I wish I would of found this place sooner.

Ive used these guys for 20 years. In fact my family and extended family use them. When it comes to good honest car repair shops you will be hard pressed to find a better one.

I had AC problems with my 4runner. I added Freon via a manifold gauge set (hit and miss with possibilities of error). All was well but....when I reconnected the set I had high reading on the High and Low sides and no cooling. Meaning? Problems I couldnt work on unless I had special equipment. I took the car to Hare and explained the High/High readings. I was told I had over charged with Freon. Easy to do via gauges. They could have told me I destroyed parts and ran the bill up. Who would have known? They didn’t. They purged the system and added the correct amount and call to say it was done. Honesty! Thats what we want! Another person in front of me had electrical problems. In a nut shell; he had work done, by others, and it was wired wrong. Did they fix it and charge? NO! Advised the individual to go after the other guys to make it right...they did charge to look at it which should be done but it’s going to be a lot less for this individual in the long run…HONESTY!
