If you need a car repair, go here. End of story. Mike is a great guy and his team does excellent work! They fixed up my 2006 Nissan Centra in a timely manner keeping me updated throughout the entire process. One of the last trustworthy car repair shops!
University Foreign Car Repair can take my money. They do a great job, and treat you fairly. They take time to explain their work and and are very communicative.
Work they do is 50/50. Did ok work on my car but my kids car still has squeaking breaks after taking their car there twice for it.Also there prices are some of, if not the highest in the area. Way, way overpriced for work. Told them I just needed a new belt and was quoted a $200 price over the phone. When I took it in they wanted $60 first just to look at it.
Great guy 1st visit told me I may want to go to the dealership. Theres something going on with Toyota camrys, printed it out for me, and when I took it to Toyota my 2023 camry with 74000 miles had the work done....no charge. They could have held onto it said later the same info they told me & charged me a fee. So nice when repair shops are honest!!! Ill be going back to these guys!!
Took over a week and probably couldve paid less at the dealer.
Promised a quote at no cost, delivered very nicely. Thanks!
Repairs were done timely, and most importantly during this pandemic as inexpensive as they were able to get them which was appreciated.
We have been bringing our vehicles to Blair at University on Kalamazoo for years. They have always provided quality service at a fair price. Blair and his staff are straight shooters. The guys in the office are competent and professional, and will work with your schedule. They have also provided much appreciated advice over the years. Highly recommended.
Blair and his staff at University pride themselves in making sure the customer leaves satisfied. They are professional and diligent. Their rates and quality of work outshine other shops and dealerships. I cannot praise their mechanic Chris enough. He makes sure I understand everything that is going on, any potential SNAFUs, and all costs. He has a personal appreciation for our Subaru. We have a standing relationship with University Foreign Car and I will always refer others to them.
Had maintenance done here, transmission and oil change. My car has never run better. Worked with a gentleman named Bill. Highly recommended!
I had a fantastic experience. No other auto repair shop would remove the back end of my BMW out so welding could be done. Not only were they willing to do so (for a very reasonable price), it was done quickly, and skillfully. They also helped arrange the welding, and even gave me advice on how to make sure the issues I had would never happen again.I would recommend their services to anyone in the area.
Very helpful over the phone. Thanks again !
Little on the pricey side, but the service and speed are worth it.
Very competent people
The guys are great! Counter, garage and owner. Single mom and business owner- constantly in my car and truly thankful for the service and care given at University. -Wallflower
Friendly staff but I had a few simple things I asked them to look at and potentially fix if they could. The bill I received was absolutely outrageous and some of the easiest things that they could have fixed they just told me it wasnt an issue. Try to be cautious when doing business with them or youll owe an arm and a leg for the simplest of things.
Stopped in without an appointment to get a headlight bulb replaced. I was super appreciative that the manager had the mechanic take a 5 minute break to help me out. You gotta love a business that doesnt make you feel unwelcome.
The BEST car repair in Lansing. I will never to anyone else!!!
No comments! The only mechanics I trust in Lansing, and even outside the state I can rely on them for any important information. I Took my Mini Clubman there with issues that other mechanics were not able to solve, and they pretty quick were able to diagnose the problems and give me options. Thanks for all the services Mr. Blair and the entire team.
Ive been taking my cars to University Foreign Car for more than twenty years. I have always found them to be very professional. They are very thorough in going over the car, making sure that they have done their best to find the cause of the problem Ive described and correct it. They have been very good about explaining what must be done immediately, what should be watched but could be postponed for a while to spread out the financial burden, and when its time to restrict a car to local travel only, or scrap it. Being able to trust my mechanics is a blessing, and essential to keeping my daily driver on the road for more than 370,000 miles. Theyve always gone the extra mile.
Took my car there to get rear wheel bearings done. They did a good job but took them 2 days to repair and was more than they originally quoted.
Great service and fair prices. I always take my car here for repairs!
Took my car there and on both ocassions after fixing one problem another came up and they quickly said oh we didnt do that and we dont know how that happened. Well you did, surprise it cost me more to get the additional problem fixed that was shown to have been caused by your negligence, sorry, no longer patronize this business
Im a bit late in sharing this review, but better late than never. I had an excellent experience with UFCR a few weeks ago. I needed a new headlight bulb and rear license plate bulb installed in my wifes car. I had gotten a huge runaround and some highly inaccurate information from the dealership where she bought it, so I went to UFCR. They gave me the straight scoop on the bulbs I needed, had them delivered within a few minutes, and installed them without charging me labor because it was a simple job. I really appreciated their honesty and quick work, and I highly recommend them. Thanks again.
We highly recommend UFCR. They have serviced our 2006 Mercedes-Benz E-500 wagon since 2017. They are honest & trustworthy. Their mechanics diagnosed our Mercedes-Benz problem(s) accurately & do quality repairs at a fair price. They charge far less than the dealership & other foreign auto repairs. They stand behind their work. Friendly staff. Best place to bring your foreign car.
Ive been going to University Foreign Auto since 2006. I love the place. The positive reviews on here ring true to my experience. They tell you whats going on with the car, give you a timeline for how long it will last before requiring repair, and let you decide how to deal with it. While all shops are looking to make a buck, this shop doesnt suggest you do anything that isnt necessary. They are very reasonable people, very friendly, and they appreciate their customers.Their work is outstanding 99% of the time. In my 6 years (so far) of repairing vehicles at this shop, Ive only had one repair job that needed to be reworked. When they are at fault, they take care of you and make sure they get it done right.I dont take my cars to another shop because these guys are the best. If you had a bad experience from this place, I dont know what to tell you. Bad service and workmanship hasnt been my experience for over 6 years now. Its only been great service and great quality.
Outstanding! I have been taking my imported cars to University Foreign Car since 1994, and have always appreciated the thorough care. Not only will they honestly diagnose mechanical issues, but also stand behind their work. My wife and I have always appreciated how clearly they explain mechanical needs and our options on how we want to proceed. We trust no one else to service our three imports. Thanks University!
So impressed with this place - they were friendly, efficient, didnt try to talk over my head and confuse me with technical jargon. Most importantly, they didnt try to sell me anything unnecessary, which is a sign to me of a great and trustworthy car repair place. The quote they gave me was half of what I would have paid at the Mini dealership, so also really great prices! Ill definitely be coming back here.
Recently had my vintage Subaru in for new water pump, fan clutch, fan blade, radiator hoses, crank pulley, various seals & replacement of timing belts and outer timing covers. The front office personnel were courteous, knowledgeable and provided valuable updates on a regular basis. Exacting repair service by skilled mechanics. Competitive pricing.
Quick, professional, honest. They gave me exactly what I was looking for, and nothing more. More importantly, I got a call after they figured out the problem and before they did any actual repairs. The inspection fee was applied to the repair.I was experiencing start-up problems on an aging Honda Odyssey. After a few free diagnostics from auto-parts stores giving me mixed answers and still needing an occasional jump, I decided to take the vehicle to a shop. University Foreign Car was familiar to me because I live in the area so it was the first place I tried.I briefly described my problem with the gentleman behind the counter, and he gave me the flat rate to check it out and told me he could fit me in the next day. I dropped the car off the following morning (9ish), and got a call around noon that they found the problem and said it could be fixed by the end of the day.I will definitely recommend this shop to anyone who asks.
I have brought my cars to University Foreign Car Repair for many years because of the quality service and honesty. Recently I had a brake job done and a few months later was having problems with pulsating when stoping. I brought it back in and they identified the problem and repaired the issues with no charge. They stand behind their work and always take care of their customers!
Good place to take your vehicle
Worst service ever, owner was extremely rude, won’t recommend, insulting a customer and won’t be able to fix they caused.
Honest and friendly BMW service. Professional service at reasonable prices. Will use again for maintenance and repairs.
These guys are great and very friendly! They made me feel like a valued customer. I was having some trouble with my Mercedes CL500. They were very transparent with labor and parts cost. I would highly recommend this repair shop to anyone.
Locally owned repair shop. Quality work, comfortable waiting area.
Dropped car off to have brakes worked on. Were a bit untimely in getting it fixed, but did a professional job. May use them again for other repairs to my Hondanor Toyota.
They have serviced 2 of my cars over the last 4 years Big and little jobs. Always done promptly and correctly. Fair prices, nice folks.
These guys took great care of me and my car. The dealership diagnosed my car issue as needing a very expensive repair. I went and talked with University, they suggested we try a flush of the system before we commit to the big expense.....bottom line is University saved me several thousand dollars I would have paid the dealership. University, with their expertise and honesty, is my car repair shop from now on.
The staff were very friendly and attentive. My weight time wasnt that long and they made sure i was taken care of while waiting. Will be back for all of our car care needs. Great! (:
Unless you have a warranty on your foreign import, DO NOT TRUST ANYONE ELSE WITH YOU CAR! Eric has taken care of my 2002 Mercedes Benz with kid gloves and keeps her running. Shes my walk away car and we even own a repair shop but for specialties, University Foreign Car Repair is THE BEST IN TOWN!
Great shop. I took my car to get a tail light replaced. I expected them to order in the taillight assembly and install the light. Instead, they called me said they could not purchase the assembly for a better price than I could on line. They gave me the part number...I ordered the part on line. I took the car and assembly by and they popped in and only charged me for labor. Thanks for saving me money. The staff was friendly. Ill be doing all of car maintenance with them going forward.
I inquired about doing a transmission/differential/and transfer case fluid flush on my 2010 Mercedes E550. The mechanic wrote up a quote and gave me an appointment for the following Tuesday. I dropped my car off the evening before, checked in around noon on Tuesday and the car was in the same spot and the gentleman working the desk said the mechanic was working on a BMW motor job and would start working on my vehicle after lunch. Around 3pm I got a call saying the motor job is taking longer than expected and they cant get to it until tomorrow, inconvenient yes but I was fine with leaving the vehicle in hopes they would get to it tomorrow. I check in Wednesday afternoon and apparently they looked at the car and determined that they need special tools to get the job done that they wont be able to get for at least 3 days. I took my key and came back later to get the car. I was with my dad and he asked the owner what the issue was and the owner flat out said we dont have the special tools and the mechanic who quoted you isnt here so you need to talk to him not me. The owner then said to just take the car and go somewhere else. Terrible customer service, and the owner not taking responsibility and backing up his business, should have looked at the 63 3 star reviews and the other foreign car service centers have over 200 5 star reviews. DO NOT RECOMMEND! Incompetent owner and mechanic apparently for taking a job and not being prepared for it.
Superior service.. highly recommend. Friendly staff..fair price, Quality work honest and trustworthy people.
These guys are looked friendly. But, thats all. Be aware of the illusion and dont fall into the sweep trap. You will lose your smile when it comes to the bill. First of all, their parts and labor are pricey if you compare other reputable Audi or BMW mechanics. Then they will try to upsell you more than you actually need, which all happens in a nice conversation of course. It is claimed that they will not start working on your car before getting your permission, but be careful, they do such a pretty good job of exaggerating the problem youre gonna have if dont take their extra repairs, which makes you feel they are doing you a favor. AND, if you decline, prepare to get a surprise at the final bill. I got my car repaired for several times thought they were reliable and friendly, but learned the truth in a hard way. In one of the case, agreed upon a $300 of simple repair, then another $1000 next day, declined of course, finally another $200 showed up in the final bill. Oh right, some of my interior cabinet lights were dead after I got the car back. Just too tired to deal with them. Find another good German car mechanics which only took me $200 to fix the same problem and get my lights back on for free.
Owner needs to change his attitude. I have a classic Mercedes that needed a change of a steering coupling. I work on the car myself on certain things, but didnt want to do this job without a lift. the part itself cost $180 if you go to Mercedes and buy it there. if you go the aftermarket route, parts like MTC or Myele can be anything between $40-$89. Guess how much University Foreign Car repair would like to charge for that part besides labor: $295....I understand theres always a markup on parts at repair shops. Granted, they want to boost up a bit the earnings when they do their job in addition to labor time, but to charge a markup of 50%, 70% and above is just not good business. the best part is when I mentioned to the owner, that theres a huge discrepancy between their price and to that of even a genuine Mercedes part, the owner said: I dont Care. Nice reply ah?.... well, I didnt care doing business there either.. more so, they wanted to charge for a 6 hours job on a repair that takes 2.8 hours according to the labor hours calculator. in summary, shop around before you take your business there.
These guys will tell you the truth. And since they are salary, the have no motivation but to see you safely out the door. Thanks for telling us to sell our last car instead of investing more money, it was the right decision.
I couldnt be happier with the service I have received at University Foreign Car. If youre like I was many years ago, intimidated to walk into an establishment where you know next to nothing about cars but need assistance or regular maintenance, this is the place to go. These folks are friendly, knowledgeable, reasonably priced, and will get you in and out as quickly as possible. More than once, while travelling, warning lights have lit up in my car. I dont panic - I call UFC before I let anyone do questionable work. Because these guys know me, my car, and my driving habits so well, they know what advice to give me. This has saved me a lot of anxiety, money, unnecessary work on my car, time, and getting messed with because some fool thought they saw a gullible woman travelling alone. They dont know my friends at UFC are just a phone call away. I trust these guys with my life! They cant be beat.
Fast and easy. We have been getting our cars fixed since the 80s. They have always been fair and honest with us
I recently brought my car in for repairs, I am a new customer to this company and found it to be a great place, they were prompt and courteous and I would and will be returning if I need anything in the future.
After a co-worker recommended me to them, Ive gone to University Foreign Car Repair since 2003 and have many repairs and service done there with a variety of cars. They have earned my trust in many situations and helped me in tight situations where a repair couldnt wait. They advise me when a repair can wait until I have more money, and when a repair must be taken care of. They explain what services are a good idea and the consequences of putting them off and let me make my decision on whether to do preventive maintenance or not without pressuring me.They have always treated y wife well when she takes her car in there alone, and thats important to me as well. When a part fails before the warranty is up, they get the part vendor to replace the part for free and their labor is free to me also. I think they do extend better service to long time customers, but from my observations (while waiting to pay a bill or drop off a car) I think their service to first time people is very high.I can not explain the bad reviews from others here, nor will I criticize them. I just offer a report from my experiences with them over 10 years.
I hated this place, they didnt have the time to listen what I wanted to say about my car. They were very disrespectful to me. They dont know anything about fixing car, they were trying to hustle me. I had a little problem with my transmission not shifting right, however, they told me that it was messed up and i need to replace the transmission for $6,000!! I was shocked. But when I took it to a different place they told me you just need to change the oil for the car and filter. Once they fixed that, the car works great and cost me ONLY $140. I really advise you NOT to go to university foreign car repair, they just want your money. I heard good things about this place, but when I went there my experience was terrible, I will never step foot in that place again!!!
Had my 2005 Mini Cooper’s CVT transmission oil changed at an outrageous price of $340! They did a good job, but i would not recommend any shop that changes these crazy prices. Five quart oil price alone was $150, while you can purchase that oil for $50 or even Redline, which one the best oils for transmissions cost only $70 for five quarts. If they charged less, they could easily make up the difference in volume, but it’s their small business mentality that keeps them from growing to the next level.
I have nothing but positive things to say about UFC. They always take fantastic care of me and my MINI. They diagnose the problem quickly and complete the work in a timely manner at a fair price. They take the extra time to explain to the customer exactly what will be done, and call with updates on the progress. I would definitely recommend University Foreign Car!
Very busy, but friendly service. They charge a premium and they did the minimum.. lacked attention to detail and overlooked some things. Seems like they are so busy they are a bit hasty. Not worth the big bucks $$.
I have used them for several years and always have a good experience. Their prices are fair and they will keep you updated on things as appropriate. I would certainly recommend them instead of the dealer.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff, will tell you honestly what is wrong with your car and what needs to be fixed. Will take time to educate you about your vehicle without making you feel stupid. Highly recommended mechanic for foreign cars .
Hi i have been taking my vw to these guys for long time now they always treat my right and fix my car in a timely manner if i dont know whats wrong they take time and explain it to me. would recommend to every one.
THE BEST PLACE TO GET YOUR VEHICLE FIXED
Ill refer Subaru owners looking for a shop to trust. We have a 08 Subaru Tribeca. Parts for this model are not easy to find but they did it at a good price. Quality shop!
University Foreign Car charged us $383 for an Oil Change and a Brake Fluid Flush which it turns out may not have been needed. Every place Ive got quoted from since then has been $200 or less. I sternly asked them for a refund of $183 because of the gross overcharging and because they didnt like that I was upset they refused to compromise or offer a solution. The represent themselves as a repair shop that knows about Volkswagen service because they have a former tech from a dealership there. Well, the dealership was basically half the price and has not once overcharged me. Should have known better by reading their terrible reviews online first. Safe to say I wont be doing business here any longer and I suggest you shop your business around as well.
University Foreign Car has some the WORST customer service I have ever experienced. I had scheduled 3 separate times for them to take a look at my car. Would drop it off in the morning and then come back that day at 5:00 to pick it up (It was my only ride home). Each time they had forgotten about my car and didnt even look at it. Finally, the fourth time i arrived at 5:00 to pick up my car. They had forgotten about it again but decided to look at it this time. I then sat there for an extra hour as they pulled my car in the garage to take a look. They refused to admit that the service they had done prior had a mistake that needed to be fixed. So after 3 moths of dealing with these morons i went to a different car shop. The new car shop had my car for 30 min, knew exactly what was wrong with it and how to fix it. Ended up costing me $1000 because of UFCs mistake. I can confidently say i will never be retiring to UFC and will definitely detour anyone from going to them in the future.
Honest, hardworking, competent. Always feel safe leaving my car here.
Blair uses his Decades of experience to work on Any Foreign Car made. UFCar is helpful when working within a Budget too.
I hesitated to post this for fear of retaliation, but in good conscience I decided to give other local motorists the heads up.Ive been happy to put up with prices here because of good service and communication, but that was before I dealt with the owner directly. After a routine oil change I needed two major repairs in a row. When I had the audacity to say that that seemed like a huge coincidence and ask if there was any chance they were related, he told me I lost credibility as a difficult person in just about the most patronising and unprofessional method possible. Oh this was also after I got saddled with a bill that was fifty dollars higher than the grand total I had been quoted (and yes I was VERY clear in asking for the cost out the door, I always am) because his definition of grand total and out the door apparently dont include tax because its not money he gets to keep, or so went his excuse. Apparently I was also difficult for bringing that up. Im a youngish woman, I get patronised by mechanics regularly, but this was a whole different animal, I have NEVER seen such behaviour from someone whos supposed to be a business owner. After I initially posted this review the business responded not once, but twice with a series of lies attempting to discredit me/ make themselves look better. I believe this behavior illustrates the treatment their patrons can expect than anything I could ever write.
The owner is pretty uptight, and ready for confrontation even when responding to a simple question lol. They are more than happy to charge you some of the highest rates in lansing ($50 for non-synthetic oil change.. wow!), couple this with their inability to properly diagnose problems, means you may pay two to three times what a repair costs and have to go back multiple times to get your repair.. its a foreign service shop, and they are quite open about how that gives them the right to do what they like...
I towed my car here to get it looked at after it failed on the highway. After 10 days I realized I wouldnt be able to pay to have the car fixed so I towed it away. They charged me $100 to assess the initial damage which is understandable. But they charge me $20 a day for storage without my knowledge. $300 total bill for the car to sit there with no communication of the charges before hand.Update: I had to pay for my car today so I could have it towed elsewhere. They apologized for not telling me about the $20 daily fee. They took $100 the total bill and only charged me $200. Still not happy about paying a fee I was never told about, but a discount was appreciated, and worth changing my rating from 1 star to 2.
They claim their foreign car place but really dont seem like they want to help you much if you just need parts
I was a truck mechanic back in the day. I know a good value in car repair. These guys are a good value at a fair price.
I have given all my business to University foreign car for 25 years. The few times I have used other repair facilities I have been as disappointed as I was before I found University Foreign Car. Because the policy there is to treat the customer fairly and honestly I recommend them exclusively to friends and take all my family vehicles to them.
They always have my back.
Horrible customer service. I called to ask a simple question. The man was very rude and could not make an appointment so I could bring my car in to be diagnosed. Its whenever they can get to it. It could sit there for days...Yes, its their world and Im just living in it. No thank you, Ill find someone else to fix my car.
Experts for your imports. The best around in fact.
They fixed my Volvo on time and so much cheaper than anyone else in the area.
The brake parts they changed for my car are not good in quality. It has severe rust only after two month.
They are very expensive! They normally charge 30-40% more than other places for the same service. They also offered me services that my car did not really need and of course for a high price (told me I needed to change transmission fluid a week after I had changed it!).
Trustworthy and honest! Highly recommended
This place is horrible! They act like they know how to fix problems, but all they do is fix just enough to get you by for a few months. My 2000 Toyota Camry had an air conditioning problem....the air wasnt getting cold and it couldnt defog my windows when it was humid and raining outside. This place just added refrigerant (freon) to the car, which only cost about $80. A few months later, the same exact problem occurred. Being a smart guy that I am, I took it to the Toyota dealership and avoided taking it back to University Foreign. The dealership did a more thorough investigation of my air conditioning system and told me that my compressor was bad and that I also had some hoses that were leaking. Although it cost about $500 dollars to fix the entire problem the second time, I know that its fixed for good. I also know that it could have been fixed the first time if I took it some where other than University Foreign.
I own a 1998 Subaru Outback with about 218,000 miles on it. Previous to going to University I had gotten my timing belt, thermostat, and water pump replaced. After getting all that done by an out of home, licensed mechanic, my car started acting all sorts of crazy. The check engine light came back on, which I wasnt too concerned about considering the age of my car. However what did grab my attention was whenever I got up to highway speeds the check engine light constantly flashed. I could no longer get a hold of the wannabe mechanic that had previously worked on my car so I took it to University. My aunt and uncle rant and rave about them and have been very loyal customers of theirs for as long as I can remember. University inspected my car and called me with some not so good news. Long story short, my car was near death due to the lack of competance from the previous mechanic. My car was completely out of time, the water pump job was a joke, among a whole list of things that I quite honestly dont completely understand (thank God I dont work on cars).Almost $1,300 later my car was fixed and drove wonderfully. My experience there was beyond professional. They respected me and showed care and consideration. Eric (WHO I LOVE!!) wrote down notes when I was describing what has been done with my car and what its currectly acting like. Ive never had any mechanic be so attentative and detailed. They called multiple times throughout the duration my car was there, to keep me up to date. They were reassuring and friendly. They made me feel comfortable as a 24 year old female, who knows NOTHING about cars. They even called me and asked if I could come down and look at the TERRIBLE condition my car WAS in and what they previous mechanic had done.Steve and Eric were both phenomenal at explaining and showing me exactly what is what and what they were fixing. Blair (whom I believe to be the owner and hope I didnt slaughter the spelling of his name) took time out of his busy day as well to talk to me. I felt at home and respected. I will NEVER go to any other place as long as I own a foreign car. I am so beyond greatful and just amazed at how nice these guys were. NOW my beater of a car doesnt really drive much like a beater at all. If you know what was good for you, take your car to university. I know I will continue to do so.
Great people very helpful very talented
Very polite and honest.
Food was really good and fresh
Worst service
Nice n quick.
Decent place although high markup on parts
First time and will continue to patronage University!
WORST SERVICE EVER The parts department is very nice and friendly . But the guy with the glasses at the shops desk is NOT .seems like he could be the Boss maybe the Owner I think its gotten to his head . been in their 4 different occasions and the guy acts like he doesnt even want my car at his shop . Not going to pull the race card but Im almost positive he doesnt like people from the Latin descent
Fast service
Poor customer service, poor customer communication
Great people
