We were headed to a different restaurant when a delicious smell caught our attention. So I followed my nose...It is a small, limited seating counter bar with beer and wine. The owner/butcher/chef is a one man army, whipping delicious food up from scratch. Be prepared to wait and watch as he takes everything from scratch and creates a delicious meal made from love. Ask about the white sauce.
This is a locals hidden gem restaurant thats you need to visit while in New Orleans. Meats are freshly cut and prepared just like in an expensive steakhouse when you order. Our pull pork sandwich was very tender and perfectly seasoned, the hamburger meat was fresh, perfect balance of fat and beef, topped with chimichurri and fresh pickled vegetables on the side. The owner did an excellent job not only explaining the concept of the restaurant and the menu but also making recommendations for local places to visit.
Cool place! Comfortable and down to earth. The staff was knowledgeable, funny and interesting. The food was great, different, and well priced. They have a house french red wine that is awesome. I cant find it anywhere though!
Ive eaten here three times, had just about the entire menu, and EVERYTHING is amazing. Great cuts of meat, expertly prepared, and the sauces and accompaniments are all amazing as well. Super casual presentation, but this food wouldnt be out of place at the best of restaurants.(Have some patience! Everything is made from scratch and takes a moment! Chill out, its worth it!)
Unique, delicious charcuterie. The pulled pork sandwich was a game changer.
Nestled smack-dab in the center of hipster Central in the marigny is this unassuming butcher shop restaurant set up that is basically a funky wholly unassuming space decorated from thrift store hauls, dedicated to meat and cheese. Wow I wasnt a fan of a lot of the things on the menu I think everything was pretty good, and certain items exceptional.
Small joint, but big flavor. The menu is simple and small but the food is just simply tasty. Definitely recommend.
Very simple menu but bursting with flavor! Watching Chris prepare the very fresh ingredients he uses lets you know that whats coming is going to be spectacular! Wish we had a few more days in town so we could have tried everything! No frills, just good food!
We were visiting from out of town and looking to eat local foods. Someone recommended we try Shank Charcuterie. The food was amazing and the portions were very generous. We will be back next time were in NOLA.
Shank is the best. I love the atmosphere and Chris makes a delicious Pimento Cheese Hamburger. I also get my meat from Chris. His cuts of meat are top quality. I can call Chris on my way home and pick up a freshly cut NY Strip or Ribeye, and he will have it ready when I get there. Chris is the real thing. A real Butcher. Going to Shank reminds me of shopping with my Mom as a child. The quality Ians service are superb. Shank is a friendly, neighborhood 5 star restaurant and Butcher Shop.
Oh my God, if you want top quality, mind-blowing meats, go to Shank. Its a butchery that serves cooked breakfast, lunch and dinner as well. Its very rarely that you come across a place that reminds you of what truly amazing food is like. The meat is super fresh and the flavoring is perfectly put together. Everything that comes to your plate is put together in-house from scratch. I saw a batch of sausages fan-drying towards the back. Sit at the food counter and watch the owner-chef prepare everything for you slowly, with care and love, evident in the food you eat. BYOB and super chill vibe. Dont miss it!
Simple menu, yet great flavors, huge portions and great service. Kris made me very own smoked sausage. Where do you get service like that. ILL TELL YOU WHERE. ONLY HERE. GO AND GIVE THEM A TRY
The best little kept secret!!! Delicious food made by the butcher chef himself. I had the pulled Polk sliders and it comes as 2 and I couldnt fully eat it all. My boyfriend had the beef curry over coconut rice and I had some it was unbelievable. Heard he was the butcher to help open Cochon in warehouse district. The chicken curry looked good as well.
After eating so much at St. Roch market, my wife insisted we order some food to go at Shank Charcuterie as she heard good things about this place. Despite feeling uncomfortable, I had to take a few bites back in our hotel before food gets cold. I just have to say wow!! Im all about flavors and value and the hamburger ($10) and black sausage sandwich (choripan $10) were among the best Ive had. This is a must go place!! The burger patty was so fresh and their pimiento cheese definitely brought the extra flavor outta this burger. Its served with pickles that you cant ask for anything more. And their black sausage, which they described it as Morcilla but I beg to differ. Its a lot better! It didnt taste like typical blood sausage as it tasted more like meatballs but its definitely the best sausage Ive had in my life. Only regret I have is going to this place after St. Roch market. Next time I visit, Ill make sure to order everything else.
The best burger and best pulled pork sandwich we’ve had in a LONG time! Everything was simple and incredibly delicious!
The best pulled pork and burger Ive had. Great experience and truly a local joint.
I had the best burger in the country here yesterday it was beyond delicious
We just picked up Thai Beef Curry, Sliders, a burger and sweet potato. My mouth is in heaven. The quality, quantity and value were all perfection. We cant wait to go back. Thanks to the chef.
Master of meats, revolving menu, excellent quality to take home and prepare. Attentive and friendly service. A New Orleans gem for the non-vegetarian!
Incredible burger. Comes with pimento cheese and some ridiculously savory aioli. Fun just to watch the master at work behind the counter.
I don’t even know why I’m writing this because I have nothing new, different, or even remotely interesting to add. I’m a retired airline pilot and my son and I have eaten everywhere on the planet and we both agreed that this place had the best food we’d ever eaten. He had the Pork Sliders and I had the Curry Beef. Excellent. I guess what impressed me the most wasn’t just Shank-the-restaurant’s food, but the fact that it is a flagship enterprise for identifying New Orleans as one of the most interesting and unique cities in America. Firstly, it is NOT in the French Quarter or any other touristy section of town. We stumbled onto this place quite by accident while we were in a hurry to make it to the airport on time. We didn’t have time for no stinking French Quarter, but it doesn’t matter in New Orleans. Walk into any dive of a diner in even the seediest section of town and you never know. The chef preparing your meal just might be the next Gordon Ramsay trying to make a name for himself.
Do not be deterred by outside appearance, there is something special waiting for you inside. This is not a hit or miss lunch spot. Consistently, I have enjoyed some of the best fresh meat and cheese I have ever eaten. No doubt this spot is one of the best places to get a fresh cut of meat in the Bywater, and if you stop in for a sit down bite to eat, youre guaranteed to have one of the most unique and delicious meals in New Orleans.
They have local goods made in-house. I absolutely love them! The entire menu is delicious, burger is amazing, chicken is the juiciest, and the pork sliders make me speechless. Plus their bacon is addictive. You have to check them out!
Awesome butcher. Havent had any cooked food yet, but its the only place I get my meat now. Thats what she said.EDIT... several years later and like a million sausages and steaks and burgers later.... this place is absolutely amazing. Everything about it. I would put his hanger steak up against anyone in town. Anyone. Chris is a master.
Make your way out of the Quarter if you’re visiting and stop by the Bywater. That’s where you’ll find this unassuming little gem. Great food, no matter what you get.
Amazing burger, freshly ground meat, cooked perfectly!Meatballs and grilled chicken are delicious!Cant wait to eat the rest of the menu!
So delish! Very casual but the best charcuterie! Drink offerings was one kind of beer. But that did not matter as the charcuterie was so good.
This place is amazing. Dont come here. I dont want to have to wait in line for their insanely delicious meats.
Everything - pimento burger, beef curry, yams - was incredibly flavorful, prepared perfectly, some of the best food I have ever eaten. The front facade is unassuming but dont let it fool you, this place is a gem
Shank Charcuterie is everything I could’ve imagined, and more! Came here with a few friends and had the burger, and meatball sandwitch. We just got done eating and I’m writing this review with my hands still dirty because I couldn’t wait to praise. Already want to go back!
Best place to get your meat and fish as well as being a cool place to eat delicious, creative dishes
Best hamburger, best pulled pork. Fine folk at the grill and serving: emanating professionalism and kindness. Thank you.
Great, simple menu. Amazing cuts of meat. Best prices in town
The man treats everything he cooks as if he was going to eat it. Its obvious. Meat quality is among the best, and portions are big. I dont leave many reviews.
Every time I eat here I feel like I am eating fresh vegetables, but its ALL MEAT. Like the plants were somehow converted to high density superfood. You see that ultra rare hangar steak all demolished in the pic above? Beets.
Excellent food: great portions, great chef/owner AND great blues and reggae music while you eat!
Worth your while to check out this spot - knowledge is power & they know their craft! Top Notch
It’s the best burger I’ve ever had, hands down. This place is where I bring every out-of-towner.
Truly one of a kind. It has become a must stop for me. Had the charcuterie plate, meatballs, and the pulled pork sliders.... delicious.
I love the burger, the brussel sprouts, and the Chimichurri potatoes. All 3 are outstanding. Great flavor, high quality food!
Sit down and let this man make you the best burger you’ve ever had. The End.
This place is amazing. The only place to eat meat and the guy really takes pride in his food and butchering
Incredible, the charcuterie plate is one of the best Ive ever had, dont skip it.
When i buy meat i like it to be cruelty free das why i get my bacon here when i go through bacon fat ass phases. SOOOOO GOOOD ugh would love some right now. please try the bacon its worth it. fry it up in yo house and change yo life. yall didnt know bacon could be that good
It’s delicious. It’s worth it. See for yourself.
If you want traditional Cajun inspired meats, this is the place! I put Shank in first place above Toupes, Clever & Co. and yes Cochon!
Kris is a real artist when it comes to making your meal. He takes a lot of care with your food and stands over that grill like a Viking daring it to go wrong. Try everything on the menu at least once. This man knows meat!
It was everything I expected.
Great food and service.
Come empty stomached and order the pork chop for a pleasant delight. New Orleans Orleans
TERRIFIC lunch ...Sooo low key location and staff ... Do not mistake them for fancy schmacy lol, very unpretentious space, however, Igood guys and GREAT butchers. Best burger in NOLA is the pimento cheese burger !!!Pulled pork sliders are amazing !!! Carolina style white BBQ sauce is delicious. But what makes this place really really really good, is the flavor of the meats and cheeses.
Hipster meat in a good way
Incredible meats! Still thinking about that burger...
Hands down the best meal we had in New Orleans.
Big servings of delicious meats at a good price. Also, bone broth!
Had a mouth-gasm. Very chill, great prices, and the owner is awesome!
Carolyn and Chris are fantastic, conversation about the menu choices informative and spot on. I will come back a million times!
Changed my life a little
Simple, but simply excellent
The paté is on point. Do not skip it.
