We ate here for the first time today! Everything was great! Oxtails, jerk chicken, rice (two kinds), cabbage, plantains and ginger beer-all on point!

Horrible Customer Service and Horrible Presentation. Menu said “candied yams” not “Steamed Sweet Potato”. The Curried Shrimp, Ha ha, I was not expecting my food to look like this. I am very upset! I demand a refund and if you are going to have candied yams on the menu I am looking for candied yams on my order. This is a hot mess for sure. I will be calling them tomorrow being that my food came after they were closed.

Great cultural vibe, friendly staff, wonderful food. Highly recommend if youre looking for authentic Jamaican or Caribbean food.

Delicious oxtails and rice, cabbage and yams

Their grocery had all the ingredients I needed to make oxtail. I was so happy. Next time Ill see if they sell red snapper!I havent tried their cooked food yet, but it looked tasty.

To be paying almost 20 dollars for a oxtail plate you do not get your money’s worth. They give you like 3-4 of them and most likely 2 of them will be completely fat 🤮 every time I order the juices are always spilled in the bag and all over the other sides. I’ve ordered from them frequently but will be finding a new spot for these reasons. My first time ever ordering from them they were giving enough food for what I was paying, seems like things have slowly been declining.

Customer friendly and staff are helpful. The owner is kind and a hard worker often seen working right along with employees. Will recognize you as a regular customer.

The oxtail dinner was good. We got yellow rice, plantains, and collard greens. We also got jerk chicken with mac and cheese and rice and peas. The service was good as well. Very polite and helpful.

Pretty good.. my kiddos love the cabbage (so do I) but the jerk wings are my go to. Im use to a little different way cooking but this will do until im back home 🙂 my husband wasnt a fan of the curry chicken. The ladies were pleasant, but Im use to Jamaicans so I know not to take their personalities to heart.

The best Jamaican Restaurant and Supermarket in Virginia. The food is irie and plenty of authentic Jamaican groceries is here. Green bananas, yellow and white yams, sorrel, thyme, scotch bonnet pepper & so much more. On finding this spot I really felt like I was in Jamaica. Jerk Chicken is really nice👍.

MARTHA OR MARSHA WAS EXTREMELY RUDE TO ME, I ASKED IF I COULD GET FRESH MAC BECAUSE THE MAC ON THE COUNTER WAS OLD SHE PROCEEDED TO THE BACK TO TAKE THE OLD MAC WITH HER, TURNS OUT SHE GAVE ME THE MAC THAT HAD BEEN SITTING. MY FOOD I HAVE IS CURRENTLY COLD, THE ONLY THING SLIGHTLY WARM IS THE CABBAGE. THIS PLACE IS SEEMINGLY GOING DOWNHILL AS FAR AS CUSTOMER SERVICE IS INVOLVED, I DROVE ALL THE WAY FROM CHESAPEAKE TO GET THE WORST SERVICE EVER!!!! I WILL NOT BE RETURNING. Ordered small goat plate and it was cold. When handed me the plate, the container was not closed therefore the gravy spilled all in the bag. I had to pay for some more gravy due to the lady not closing my plate despite the fact that I explained this to the lady. The food cost to much for it to be cold, and leaking all in the bag. Need better containers and staff, smh

It’s either hit or miss. Sometimes the food is exceptional. Sometimes it’s not. However for the pricing simple instructions as far as heavy gravy should be followed easily.

Small grocery store and restaurant. We picked up some spices, jamaican sodas, delicious bread, and a few chicken patties and coco bread. Dee-licious. Reminded me of back home in Brooklyn.

The plantains was very dry, the cabbage was over cooked the gravy for the stewed chicken has no flavor. That was last order. But the beef and chicken patties are very good

I got the jerk chicken dinner with 2 sides and it was delicious. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. The sides were even better. The people there were really friendly. This will definitely be one of my regular go to spots for Caribbean food. The prices were average too!!!

Everything in the menu is good. Don’t forget to get a bottled ting from the fridge! It’s the best drink paired with the curry.The amazing ladies here always take great care of me even though I’m so indecisive.Also they have frozen goat! I’ve always had to go to Virginia Beach or Newport News to get some.

So I door dashed this order July 2020. I dont normally order out as I am a chef. However I have a newborn so sometimes I just need a break. However the break was not worth my time, money,or relaxation. This was one of the worst meals Ive ever had from anywhere. The curry chicken was half cooked well half rubber. The collard greens had no seasoning at all. None!!!! And the sweet potatoes was as if it was canned in some type of weird syrup. The only thing I was able to eat was the rice and peas. I also ordered coco bread and it was rock hard on the middle. Not worth the hassle. I had to end up cooking anyway.

I live in portsmouth but I do not recommend the Portsmouth MPs. The food often lacks the flavor and the service is typically bad (miserable servers) and unorganized. I recommend Norfolk Mps because of consistently good taste and service is handle well especially since the move down the street from their club location.

Authentic Jamaican food thats delicious everytime. You get plenty for your money and you want everything on the menu. Friendly workers with the right attitude. Fast service. Food tastes as good as it looks. Clean place. Attentive service. Fresh products. Reasonable prices.

I ordered from here and they are no cutlass grille. I ordered the curry goat and rice and peas with gravy. The gravy was old looking and the rice was dry. The meat was dry and not juicy at all. The green beans look like they came straight out of a can, not fresh. I normally go to cutlass grille where it is truly authentic and fresh but I decided to give this place a shot. Not again!

Just go to cutlass grille is what I told myself. Gave this place two shots. Food has no flavor and is not fresh. Ordered mac and cheese, yams, and jerk. Paid too much for some bland food could have made at home. The jerk was just a little spicy though so I give it an extra star. But service is really bad dont know why they cant smile or greet you.

I support because my heritage is Jamaican. Prices are reasonable on the perishables you cant find at the grocery store. The hot food is good if you want a taste of Jamaican culture, its just not as seasoned as we make it (appeals to a wider audience). Customer service is typically good and the building smells amazing.

This spot is worth giving a shot. They serve large portions for fair prices. Consistently clean and with awesome character. Will come visit again.

First time here, when I pulled up, looking from the outside i was not sure if it was open or not but i ended up walking in through the grocery store entrance which turns out is the ONLY way you can get in. I was immediately I was greeted at the door by the wonderful smell of spices, chicken, and beef. Great Food Great Service. I got a large plate of Ox Tail and rice and beans. I grew up in Miami FL, and have had my fair share of Authentic Caribbean food, All I can say is that this place is legit. All of the food looked and smelled amazing. I will be going back... SOON.

The service was great! I went there for the first time a few weeks ago and was greeted by a friendly staff member working the register on the restaurant side who helped me pick out some awesome dinner for myself and my better half. She was very informative on what each food was and what ingredients were in them and was super kind and friendly the whole time she explained everything! Unfortunately, I forgot to get her name. The food was very good as well! I will definitely be back!

My cousins took me and my mom to MP Island for the first time, and I was impressed with the food and the products you could buy. I had Jerk Chicken with rice and peas, and I couldnt finish the food in one day because it was a lot. The chicken was nice and spicy. Plus their ginger candies were good. I will come back again.
