Super cute English style café in Old City Philadelphia. There’s plenty of sitting both indoor and outside. I ordered a blueberry muffin and iced green tea. Walking distance from the hotel I was staying at (Marriott Old City) and super close to Independence Hall and all the tourist attractions in the area.
It’s a wonderful breakfast place. They have great employees and service and all the food tastes wonderful! There wasn’t any dish I didn’t enjoy and I’d love to come back another time.
Stumbled upon accidentally and generally it could go either way .love the place very cute and in a very quiet neighborhood away from the madness :) we loved everything we had cappuccino and omelettes and croissants.very cute store and the decor is very distressed industrial artsy look :) we loved sitting outside and watching horse carriage going by and listening to birds. Def worth a visit
I stopped in while in town for a conference and fell in love! I wish I was a local so I could visit more often. We ordered avocado toast, tuna salad on toast, and a quinoa bowl. All three were delicious, filling, and we felt great after eating so we could continue walking around. We also ordered two croissants to go—the almond chocolate croissant is possibly the best croissant I have ever had in my life and that was after sitting in my hotel room overnight. One of the employees brought us over two additional pastries, on the house, when we finished eating and chatted with us for a few minutes. The entire staff was just so friendly and seemed genuinely happy to be there. Before we left, I took a look at the website and read about Frieda’s mission. What a beautiful concept! I work for a community revitalization organization that works with vulnerable seniors and so many of the people we serve are in need of income and community. I know how much they would love to be a part of something like Frieda! On the way out, I stopped to look at the items they had for sale and purchased the strawberry mint jam, peach chai jam, and lemon curd. Holy cow—SO good! Additionally I got a beautiful pair of earrings that I immediately put on. I just cannot say enough great things about this place. Run, don’t walk!
I walk by this place all the time and finally popped in this morning. I got a croissant and a coffee, so I figured nothing special, but I wanted to come on here and say wow! The croissant was so delicious. One of the best Ive had in Philly. I will absolutely be back.
Your food is delicious! I’m not taking off stars for these ridiculous wooden utensils that cut absolutely nothing well and barely pick up food, but, please…if you’re going to not serve on real plates and with real utensils…get some better recyclable, disposable utensils that are deserving of your food!
Excellent coffee, nice atmosphere, great food. Very interesting place with community focused concept. The staff is amazing, highly recommended for brunch.
So far like the spinach quiche and smoked salmon croissant. This place is lil pricey but its good quality. You are given a table number and you order at the counter and pay and then they bring you the food at the table. At least thats how it is for now but exact steps may change. Its a nice place.
Enjoyed breakfast at this restaurant with my Goddaughters. We had the bakers basket which comes with a small serving of butter and jam, but not nearly enough for the two pieces of brioche toast. The Greek yogurt with granola and fresh fruits was great with a little added honey. The best item was the apple caramel brioche french toast. Would definitely recommend.
This place is a hidden gem! I walk passed it and wanted to just grab a coffee and a cookie but found out they actually serve brunch! They did have a server at that moment, not sure is it because of the pandemic or it’s always been like this. They did have 4-5 tables outside the café for people to use, it has a canteen style where you order your food in the counter and grab yourself a table if any of the them are available. I order a spinach quiche and a continental breakfast, it had me surprised of how tasty the foods are.The portion of the food is just right, not like the regular American among that you can’t quite finish.
This little kitchen in this gem puts out DELICIOUS food! Quality is high, service is kind, variety is plentiful, prices arent crazy, and they do not skimp on portions. Ive had breakfast there (yummy) and stop by often for pastries to go. The other night was my first time trying the dinner plan. I had it delivered (late afternoon) because I was working. Oh. My. Gosh. Duck leg with a cherry-balsamic sauce, brown & wild rice, roasted baby Brussels sprouts and portabello mushrooms, and a salad. Outstanding! $17 for all that goodness (plus a tip and $3 delivery). You have the option to add a soup and dessert. Dinners change every night and week to week. And, honestly, who wouldnt applaud their mission? IDEFINITELY going back!
Excellent food! Avocado toast is huge they give you a full avocado. French toast is delicious even if you were never a fan. And the mushrooms and bread pudding is so delicious. Service needs some work but overall foodwise it is great!
Savory buttery quiche, great croissants, great salmon salad and very sweet jam! Attentive service. They are quite busy here every time Ive been so I suggest placing a phone order in advance if you just need to pick food up.
Went here this morning and got the Avocado toast with 2 poached eggs, it was delicious. The toast had a nice crunch to it and the pesto really added some flavor. My girlfriend got the salmon croissant, which was fresh and flaky. Ordering was quick and the staff was very friendly. They have a small but nice outdoor setup with coverings over the tables, which kept us dry on from the rain. Definitely going back
Good coffee. Food was fresh and tasted good but we had to wait 40 to 45 mins for eggs and toast. I imagine it would be faster during non Sunday brunch hours.
Really chill and relaxing place for a low-key bite. Prices are okay, since the food is pretty good. The staff was also very welcoming. If youre around Independence Hall and wanna make a quick rest, I can vouch for this place.
The cutest hidden gem!! Their food is incredible - I love the avocado gluten free toast! They also have cool art inside that you can buy, butterflies in the trees outside, and usually don’t have a wait for brunch on the weekends!
Surrounded by historic sites, attractions, and gardens, this cafe is the perfect spot for breakfast, brunch, or lunch. (By the way, you can get breakfast until 3:00 pm!!!)The food is varied and tasty. You can get just a croissant and coffee or a full meal. Frieda offers everything from spectacular avocado toast with smoked salmon to omlets to quiche to sandwiches to salads and more. They also offer gluten-free bread. All the selections are terrific. While we ate at the cafe, we even got some goodies to go for later. The interior space is bright and comfortable. Theres a small shop carrying jams, assorted food items, and more. There are spaced tables for those wishing to eat indoors. For those preferring to eat outside, there are several sidewalk and street tables surrounded by nice plantings.Frieda does not offer full table service. Instead, you go to the counter inside to place your order. When your food and beverages are ready, they bring it to your table. They also check back to make sure you have everything you need and to clear plates. (By the way, they use paper plates and wood utensils ... all compostible.) The service is friendly and helpful. The kitchen is surprisingly quick.Parking can be tricky. While my wife and I walked there, a friend drove over. With no street parking available, she parked in the garage at 2nd & Sansom. The prices are reasonable. Given the quantity and quality of the food, its definitely a good value.
Very good chocolate infused scone and Paris tea.
Amazing place. You can see how much love and attention have been poured into this business. The quality of everything they serve is outstanding, the staff is super friendly and the store is very nice to visit. I was visiting PHL and went there two mornings in a row, I wish there was one here in Boston!
Great spot where you can enjoy brunch and/or a coffee/tea surrounding by an artwork gallery....Their French toast is fresh and smothered in sauce, cream and berries. Customer service is usually very friendly.
Little hard to find but definantly worth the hunt.Look for the flower arrangement over the doorway.I had the smoked salmon and soft boiled egg. Wonderful!!The wife had the French omelet with gyuer cheese and fresh fruit. Again, wonderful. The iced iced black eyed tea is a eye opener. All in all a very bright and airy restaurant with some great menu options in a city known for its cheese steaks. (They dont offer these but will give advice on the places to try)Great service!Recommended:D
Everything is fresh and delicious. one of the best experiences Ive had while visiting Philadelphia.
Small but cute. Overall, the food was very good. Simple food, but very good. They had a selection of fresh pastries also. The service staff was very friendly. Very artsy, trendy in terms of the environment and items for sale.
A great place, very tasty, fresh vegetables, great gluten free option. Good service.
Lovely outdoor seating and good food.
Beautiful, friendly environment. Delicious food 😋😍 I love this place!
The perfect little spot when visiting historical Old City, Philadelphia
Excellent food, made fresh. Very reasonable prices for a Center city restaurant
Not recommended. Although this place had a staff of at least five or six people (visible) on duty, stress and chaos were in the air and they seemed unable to cope with what was not a huge crowd of customers. When I got into the line for service, there were only three customers ahead of me. After I finally reached the counter to place my order, it took 15 minutes to get my order of 2 croissants and 2 coffees—and not the time-consuming fancy kind of coffee either. The young man at the coffee machine, who appeared to be a supervisor, was clearly overwhelmed. A woman who had been waiting for a long time for her order caused an ugly scene at the counter, demanding a refund, but then after processing the refund the staff still insisted on making her coffees, which took at least another five minutes and created visible stress on the part of the entire staff, who appeared shaken. Too bad that this cute and charming-looking place was so dysfunctional on the occasion when I tried it.
Great atmosphere and service and even better food! The Apple Brioche French Toast was especially great
Frieda is a unique place which embraces the ideals of Philadelphia. I had a chance to chat briefly with both owners, Tom & Dave. Two amazing gentlemen with a soul and determination to make our city better. Well, they delivered and then some. I was there with Chef Gabriella to talk about new ventures, business, photography, catering, marketing, gratitude and Superheroes of Service. The food tastes incredible along with impressive presentation. The atmosphere is welcoming and decor is clean, fresh and inviting. The mission of Frieda is what sets them apart from all the places to be in the city. While speaking to Tom, he shared with me Frieda is not a restaurant. It is place people can come and they will not feel judged while enjoying exceptional food made with love. I have to say, they are on point. I thank Chef Gabriella and Shup for this amazing introduction. #toussaintphotography, #Styleographer, #SuperheroesOfService, #GratitudeIs
Loved this cute little bistro! The food was wonderful and the staff were extremely nice! Would come back in a second!
Thought the mushroom toast with poached eggs was delicious as was the vietnamese coffee.
These 5 star reviews cant be real. Really bad experience. Out of most items in menu. Poor service. Took 40 minutes to get a table. Workers were confused where to sit people. Since we wasted over an hour here so far, have no choice but to eat what they have left. Will post separate review on food if it ever comes. Ok, about and hour a d a half in now. Got our food. Mediocre. French toast was the best of what we ordered, but only ok. Omelets seem like fake eggs. Fruit is old looking. Really disappointed in this. They did give us a free chocolate milk to make up for thisbut not worth how much time we wasted.
Really great Quiche Lorraine! Cheesey and gooey.
Took extremely long to be seated. when we sat down, we could find very few options for kids. when we decided on our orders, we were told they were out of the only things the kids wanted. very unsatisfied with everything here.
Food was good but a little inconsistent. I got the French toast 2 days in a row and day two it was a little underdone.
Friendly staff, good latte, good food, nice outdoor seating for a quick bite
Great service and delicious snacks!
It was awful bad food service nd there was hair in my food
A very special place with amazing food, desserts, and wonderful small handmade crafts, many created by artists in the local community. Although on hold for the pandemic, the spot hosts meetings for people of all ages for various hobbies and interests.
Frieda is one of our most favorite spots in Philly. Their weekend brunch is delightful - fresh, light, and well-priced. Their omelets are incredible, as is their quiche, all their pastries, and their juice of the day. The food is worth a visit, but the real reasons to go are the warm staff, the art, and the community that is cultivated in that space.
Picked up a muffin and croissant to go. Both were delicious and I will be back. Great company mission. I’ll be happy to support them.
Really good hot breakfast and baked goods
Tears welled up when I spoke to the host about this venue’s mission. It’s an all ages effort. Bright, open space that reminds me of places I’ve visited in Europe. Great art on the walls. Loving human service. Had afternoon coffee and pastry. Delicious. I’ll be back for more social and alimentary good good.
Amazing staff and products. The rosemary cheese scones are to die for!
Amaaaazing croissants! We had a chocolate and an almond chocolate and now we need to make this a regular place. Espresso drinks (macchiatos) were delish too.
Ordered brunch to eat at tables outside. As always, the food was impeccably prepared and delicious.
Love this place. We came for Sunday breakfast. Love the vibe. The pastries were amazing. The French toast was a hit. There staff was friendly. Wed definitely would come back the next time we are in Philly.
Wonderful! I had the continental breakfast. It was easy to have it made gluten free, and the gluten free toast was very good. The service was very good too, both friendly and efficient. I can’t say enough good stuff about this place.
I felt like i walked into a super secret club when I went in there. Man that place is so super duper woah woah woah
This was a lucky find in Philadelphia. A European cafe w chic decor and very attentive staff. That said, the reason to come is the food. The quiche Lorraine was the best I have had. A puff pastry crust perfectly filled w ham mushrooms and onions and topped w gruyereSide salad was a very nice accompaniment..chocolate almond croissant was also the best we ever had. Stop in u will be so glad u did, we cant wait to come back to try lunch
This is a lovely, bright and modern cafe in the heart of the Independence National Parks area, yet is very popular with the locals of Old City and Society Hill. It is a perfect gathering place for people to meet in a casual setting. There are even regularly scheduled meet-ups for speakers of foreign languages, separated by skill level. I am definitely going to try one or several of these out.
We stopped for brunch here and so glad we did! The avocado & salmon on toast and crab & shrimp on toast were both wonderful - excellent seasoning, presentation and portion size - everything! We sat outside which was lovely. The waiting staff were attentive and friendly. Highly recommended as a pit stop if you’re feeling peckish while walking around Philly.
Nice and cozy place
Waitress lost our pastry order, as in they took it to another table and never brought us ours. Then two other tables got served hot breakfast entrees before us. Then we asked for extra coffee creamer and were flat out told no, only to have a different staff then bring us more creamer?? After all that we were offered no discount or even a coupon for future use. The only upside was that when the food FINALLY came it was good. Waited nearly an hour for two egg based breakfasts.
Homey and chic at the same time. A lovely open space with friendly severs and good food, especially the baked goods. Interesting art exhibits. A nice place to have in the community.
Its like an art gallery with food. It doesnt feel like a regular restaurant. The food was very good. I had the apple French toast from the brunch menu which was excellent and not too much food.
Very impressed with this hidden cafeteria style restaurant.
This restaurant was incredible. Very cool atmosphere and a European flair. Outstanding food as well!
The food and service were both excellent; and the concept of the establishment is not only novel it seems to be working.Only have been there once but will definitely be going back. Its a little gem in the neighborhood.
I stayed a mile away from Frieda and walked there every day of a 5 week stay in Philadelphia. The quality of the locally-sourced made-to-order food was worth the walk, even in the rain. The organic coffee is the best I ever had. The gluten-free almond orange cake is my favorite treat. Try it with black coffee! The best part is the people. The owners, the staff, the customers and especially the fiery hostess Tina, made me feel so welcomed.
This is the ultimate breakfast spot. Everything we had to eat was amazing (toads eggs, mushroom toast, and breakfast potatoes) as well as the coffee drinks we had. The use of cheese and the poached eggs were perfection. Space is large, with a cool industrial vibe. Service was super friendly and attentive. Tables were clean and the simplicity in the design reallyrmade the food stand out. Prices are great. Menu has lots of variety. Plan to definitely return!
Delicious food and great atmosphere. This space aims at reconnecting generations: they have staff from 18 to 90 years old and when I had breakfast there, it was mission accomplished: there were kids and grandmas. Started chatting with the person sitted next to me, a really nice teacher. There are also newspapers available for you to read.Food is really tasty, fresh, home made and generous. The staff is really really nice and attentive. Loved my time there!
Incredible place to have delicious European inspired dishes. The setting is so modern and comforting. One of the owners, David is so friendly and passionate about his work and it only adds to the amazing experience I had.
It is rare to find a place that has so much heart and soul as FRIEDA. The place is magical, full of vibrating intentionality and inclusive energy. The wonderful team treats each guest with kindness and respect, truly seeing them and doing the integral work of connecting humanity. The food is thoughtfully and masterfully prepared, and the cafes decor is soothing, inspiring, and cleansing. I have worked with the owner, David, in organizing a private event at FRIEDA, and everything about our dinner was perfect. The staffs calmness, care, and attention to detail creates a dining and hosting environment that is unparalleled. I am so grateful to have met these wonderful souls and have experienced FRIEDA, and cannot wait to work with them in the future. Please experience this delightful place and support their beautiful mission.
Frieda is a gem in so many ways. A magnificent place for conversation, with great food and awesome design. Wifi free and welcoming to all generations. An experience of true community with wonderful staff. I have my most amazing meetings there.
The food was really good and the staff was pleasant. Love the community concept of this place. The only thing was we waited wayyy to long for our food.
First visit to Philadelphia...Wish I lived here! Fresh and delicious almond croissants and strong coffee. The staff was attentive and so friendly...Was given great recommendations on sight-seeing. Cant wait to come back to Friedas.
Excellent coffee and breakfast joint!! We had the French toast which was served with fruit and a butterscotch sauce. The butterscotch sauce was a perfect compliment to the French toast and not so sweet!!
Such a sweet brunch/lunch spot. The staff were all very kind and patiently answered all our questions about the menu before we ordered. The food was delicious and the tea was great!! We ordered a pot of earl grey tea to share b/w two people. I highly recommend the beet/goat cheese salad.
Great hidden gem for breakfast and lunch...really great pastries sandal various quiches made from scratch in a very nice modern open space
Hip happening
Lovely art cafe. Delicious food and coffee. Nice place to sit for a while and enjoy breakfast/lunch
Such a cute little gem in Old City. Its a bright, sunny space tucked away in a quiet part of the neighborhood. I havent had anything bad here, and my favorite is the Quiche Lorraine! Definitely worth it to stop by.
Great food, service, activities and atmosphere. Great intergenerational community feeling. I highly recommend this spot!
Never had been there. Went with friends this morning for breakfast what a pleasant surprise.Friendly and great service, food was very good with a varied menu. Nice way to start the day will be back soon.
While Frieda is better defined by what it is not, that makes for a complicated review. The most important things to know are that the food is spectacular, service is friendly and responsive, and it has a very open, laid back, and community themed environment. Also you must absolutely try the orange almond cake.
What a wonderful discovery! Our breakfast was creative and delicious. Our server was absolutely the most charming young man. My husband and I cannot wait to return.
Feels like youre brunching in an art gallery. Meals were terrific and it was such a welcoming space. Lovely service.
