Unreliable service. New owner is a nice guy but his techs keep letting him down IMO. Had to re-do two separate $1500 jobs (Serpentine belt and starter) on my X3 because they werent done correctly the first time by Boyd. Gave them the benefit of the doubt after they botched the serpentine belt job causing near catastrophic failure to the motor. After multiple unsuccessful visits (one lasting two weeks) to re-fix a newly installed starter, finally took it to the dealer to get it done right. Fool me once... fool me twice...
I’ve had a variety of work done here on my E46. I have no complaints. These guys know what they’re doing, they do a great job and they don’t charge an arm and a leg. Highly recommended!
I had a 740il e38 that would crank with no start. I dropped the car off. To later find out that the wiring harness was bad. The fuse box was full, of water, and multiple other things. As this was unfortunate news. The team at Boyd did not charge me for the hours of work they put inspecting the car, but helped me come to the conclusion it was time to part it out; saved me a lot of time and money. These guys are professional and do very great work 5/5 👍🏻
Honestly the best experience Ive ever had with a shop. Eric is such a stand up guy. Brought in a BMW from a less than perfect sale. Every time Ive taken it into the shop they have been fair, fast, honest and most of all their work is good. My car has come back better after each visit. If you care about your BMW take it here.
Friendly; Fair priced and great to work with. I very much enjoyed having them help me with my vehicle. I would definitely recommend anyone with a BMW head here before going anywhere else. It’s worth a visit.
Another 5 star review. Boyd knows BMWs. And I dont think you can beat a mechanic that specializes in one brand of car. Prices are fair, and much better than the bloodletting youll get from the dealer.
Great place. Did my 335i valve cover etc. Havent had a issue since.
Ive known this shop for 10 years and theyve always been extremely helpful with my old BMW. They know their stuff and I would recommend them for any 2002 work
Eric was super prompt and was delighted to take my couple phone calls the few days my E30 was at Boyd’s. Ultra competitive pricing and they know their stuff on BMWs. Got my oil pan gasket done for a super fair value - job was done professionally and aquick turn around. Thanks Eric and co! No more oil drops on the driveway. Very rare for us E30 enthusiasts 😉
The only people we trust our car with! They are always fast, friendly, affordable, and I never feel like they are trying to sell us repairs we dont actually need.
I have taken my BMWs to this shop for years and will continue to do so for years to come. In addition to the owners Gary and Eric, all of the mechanics are very well trained. This is a very honest shop, providing accurate information on what you need to know about your car, clarifying what should necessarily be attended to and why, with all work always completed at a good price especially given the quality of service.
Ive been bring my 2008 BMW here since the warranty was up. The crew at Boyd always gives me a heads up on work I will need to do in the near future and their rates are fair and reasonable. Its always the same friendly crew when I arrive. I am never hit with surprise extra charges. They are just great, hard-working mechanics that are experts on BMW! Im so thrilled I found a much better alternative to expensive dealer service that is just as good if not better!
I have been taking my car here for years. I always get excellent and on-time service. Eric and the team always strive to make it right. If you love your BMW, I highly recommend this shop.
Eric, Gary and the crew at Boyds have worked on my Mini and my BMW. They have factory trained mechanics who do it right the first time. They work by appointment and explain the work they need to do. I just took my BMW in for a pre trip inspection, thinking it was time for brakes. They checked it out and told me Im good to go. They told me Id be due for an oil change when I got back from the trip. Honest and reliable!
Easy to get a timely appointment. Erik and crew solved my problem creatively and inexpensively. Very much appreciated.
Awesome service, fair prices and extremely nice. My go-to shop!
I will only take my BMW to Boyds when I need any sort of service/repair. Eric and his staff are amazing! I really enjoy working with him
BMW experts, great service. I totally trust them with my car.
Helped me out with the 328i I bought from another state. Cant say enough about how helpful Eric was for me.
Eric and the team are really good at what they do. They are honest and helpful with all your BMW needs.
Ive been going to Boyd Motor Weeks for a few years now and Eric has been really wonderful. He is very knowledgeable about the mechanics of my past car and has helped me find leads to a new one. Your car is in good hands here!
Eric and the team go above and beyond every time. If you want honest, knowledgeable and friendly service for your BMW at fair prices this is the place to go. Have been to a bunch of garages in the Portland area, but once I found Boyd it is the only place I will take my cars. Currently on my third BMW with them. Very highly recommended!
Not just mechanics, but enthusiasts. It really helps knowing that when they are working on your car. Ended up needing my fenders rolled on an e30 and they were one of the only shops willing to help. They did a great job and they also hooked it up on the price!
I normally do most of my own work on my 335, but I had a coolant leak I was having trouble diagnosing on my own. Eric was very knowledgeable, helpful and most definitely took care of me. I will certainly be coming back if I dont want to deal with something myself or get out of my depth.
I replaced an amplifier in my e38 with dsp from an e39 with dsp. It needed to be coded to work. Medford BMW wouldnt even attempt to do it, even though I would have payed them. My normal shop was going to charge 2 hours labor just to try. I drove to Portland for a doctors appointment and stopped here. It took him about 10 minutes to code the amp and he told me to enjoy my radio. I highly recommend this shop. I dont recommend Medford BMW.
Eric is SO nice!!! An honest expert...really!!!
I was glad to find Boyd Motor Werks. They provide great service and have fair prices. I vastly prefer them over the dealership for service. You can tell they are experienced and trustworthy. I especially appreciate their friendly service and always making me feel welcome.
Totally Awesome shop, I am the latest lifetime customer
Great plays, Eric was helpful and honest. First time here and my car is running better than ever.
These guys are the best. They figure out whats wrong with your car fast, they give you good prices (at least 20% cheaper than dealership) and they do awesome work. I have an X5 and I have stopped in there just to get a quick lightbulb or some oil, and they did it for free! Eric is so nice and helps in anyway. Gary is great too. Love this place! Trustworthy, great work, great prices, everything your looking for.
BMW of Portland quoted me $1450 to fix my drivers side window (this was after waiting 4 days for said quote). As that is about 1/5 of the cars value I decided to look around. Eric at Boyd’s was not surprised by BMW’s ludicrous quote and felt I would be around $550. As promised the car was ready on the day he specified. An extra broken clip had increased the price to $560. Bottom line: top level work at non-gouging non-BS pricing.
They were recommended to me by a friend who does some auto repair. They did a great job.
Totally Awesome.
Eric and the rest of the guys at Boyds really do a great job and at a fair price I wouldnt take my BMW anywhere else. Thanks guys.
My wife and I are thrilled that we found Boyd Motor Werks shortly after we moved to Portland. We were dreading our BMWs next service for the amount of time and money we thought it would take, not to mention our usual annoyance that we would feel leaving a BMW dealership. Our experience at Boyd was fantastic. They not only solved our problem, but anticipated a developing one, fixed both quickly and at a cost substantially less than what the dealership and other shops said it would be. On top of that the people there are friendly and professional. Theyve made the whole experience easier.
Ive been using Boyds Motor Works for 10 years and the service and attention to detail has been excellent. Gary and Eric have done a great job keeping my 540i on the road and running. Keep up the good work.
Best BMW mechanics, hands down. They continue to do great work for me. I come in with lots of questions and concerns, and they spend the time to explain how and why the maintenance they are doing affect the longevity of my car. They have even showed me certain things on my car for the sake of informing. I consider everyone on the team as trusted partners and friends. They even do a toy drive at christmas to help out the community. 100% recommend working with the group over any dealership.
Would highly recommend Boyd Motor Werks for BMW service or repair. Always very honest about repairs needed.Gary, Eric, and all of the staff is very friendly and helpful. Very good about always making sure the repair is done right. Like the Any Issues and we will make it right attitude. Everyone is very knowledgeable about any BMW no matter the year or model.
Car was broken, car is fixed. Price was honest and significant savings were made over dealership doing the job as explained in the itemized invoice. Straight forward, fast and friendly. Even called Friday evening to make sure Id pick it up so I would have it for the weekend. My new local mechanic.
Ive be more than happy with the work done by Boyd on my current X3 and my previous 325. Though they are usually very busy, Gary and Eric have been great about getting me in for a quick check whenever something seems amiss, and then following up ASAP to undertake any needed repairs. I think their prices are reasonable for the high quality of work they provide, and my bill has always matched my estimate (or even been a bit lower). Most importantly, they have always been both very respectful of my vehicles and my time, and very up front and honest. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend them to anyone.
Gary and Eric did a fantastic job explaining my options and made some recommendations that I did not think of. Very courteous and helpful during the whole repair. Great experience I highly recommend and will be telling anyone who will listen about there shop. Thanks guys!
They were able to get my 2007 5 series in right away and completed the work in less time than I had expected and kept the cost within my budget. Eric was phenomenal to work with and explained things in a way that I could easily understand. I really appreciate Boyd Motor Werks!!! Thank you!!!
Have taken my 2003 325xi a few times here. Recommended by previous owner. This is my third BMW and prior to this I usually went to dealer. So far great service. Honest and dependable. Good prices. Will keep on coming!
This shop is a rip off. They recommend replacing parts that are still in proper working condition. Do people really replace a radiator thats good or an alternator that still works perfectly just because its over 5 years old? Get real!
Ive been getting my 99 BMW serviced at Boyd for over 5 years and they have consistently exceeded my expectations and their charges have always been fair. I highly recommend them.
Hands down the best shop in Portland for your Bmw or mini! They are so friendly, helpful and so incredibly knowledgeable. I won’t take my car anywhere else but this place!!!!!!
As a long-term BMW owner I can recommend Boyds for parts and service because 1) they are honest, 2) provide fast and thoughtful responses to questions, 3) give options and model=specific recommendations based on their experience and research, and 4) have never built-up or overcharged me based on the work actually needed to be done. Whether you are male or female they are approachable --and provide a high service level while thoroughly explaining options, choices, and what to avoid. They never try to up-sell me. I also appreciate they respect my time even if repairs are minor and only take about an hour. This shop is easy to recommend for fair prices and quality BMW service work.
The employees at Boyd Motor Werks are very nice and are honest about what needs to be done with your vehicle. I have a 1999 540i with only 30K miles and when I brought it in they could have told me I need to do all sorts of things to it because of its age and very low miles, they said all I need to do is replace the fluids regularly and just DRIVE the car :-) I appreciate the honesty and the reminders I receive when it is to time for a service on my vehicle.
I discovered Boyd back in 2011 sometime I believe and have been taking my car there since then for most repairs. Ive had some major work done such as Engine and Transmission Rebuilds and I also take it there for small stuff like oil changes and try to schedule it around when Im working near their location. I have no complaints about the work they do. The Engine and Transmission Rebuild has worked out pretty well since it was done back in 2011. Gary and Eric do a fine job and Id recommend them to any BMW driver. If I had to name some improvements: Open on Saturdays, Loaner Cars...etc but I know thats asking a bit much for a small operation so had to find something.
Traveling from California to Portland Or. and experienced a minor malfunction (discovered later by Boyd) that rendered my BMW inoperable! This could have been anything from $ to $$$$, and easily taken advantage of by an unscrupulous mechanic. Thank God I Happened to take it to an honest mechanic! Boyd Motor Werks found the problem quickly, gave me the no-nonsense results, and the cost was very fair and reasonable!! I would recommend them to anyone who is looking for an honest, professional mechanic (and I believe thats everyone). Thank you Gary and the staff at Boyd Motor Werks!!!
Had a disaster with Midas with my BMW and these guys saved me. Big thanks to Eric. He really went above and beyond to diagnose the issue with my car. He mostly dealt with my wife and he was really nice and communicative with her. Turned out Midas sold me a faulty camshaft sensor and I had Boyd do the job right! Thank you guys!
When the 1.9L engine failed in my 1997 Z3 at 165,000 miles, Boyd Motor Werks found a used engine with a 2-year warranty and replaced it. After one year, no leaks, no drips, no problems so far. This summer, they replaced the shocks and struts in the Z3. What a difference that made in the ride!Ive been impressed with the quality of the work that Ive had done at Boyds over the years. Unlike other repair shops, I havent had to return for rework. Thats important, because its a 1 hour drive for me to take the car in for service.
Gary and his crew are professional and provide excellent customer service. If you value the high degree of expertise that comes with decades of experience working on a vast array of BMWs, you will appreciate the advise and quality of work that comes out of this shop. Honesty, integrity, and superior knowledge base are the terms that come to mind when I describe my Boyd Motor Werks experience to others. I wouldnt bring my old BMW anywhere else.
So I initially took my car to Boyd because I was having an electrical problem with my BMW 325CI. They repaired my blinkers but not my hazard lights. When I called they told me no problem and to bring it back in. By the time I returned with my car my check engine light had come on. I asked the guy to resolve the issue with the hazards and diagnose the check engine light. I also mentioned that I was pretty sure there was a belt that needed to be replaced. Instantly and employee interjected that a belt would not cause the check engine light to come on. (Maybe so but Ive known that check engine light to come on because a cap isnt screwed on tight enough) They got me in that day because an appointment had canceled, fixed everything wrong with my car, and my car was ready the same day. Overall it was a good experience, I took my car to get repaired and it got fixed. And guess what? They did have to replace a belt. It was one of 3 things needing replacement. Well whaddya know? Silly woman knows a little about cars...
These guys are awesome. They went above and beyond to get my car back on the road.
I dont usually use the terms auto mechanic and trustworthy in the same sentence, but I will with Eric and Boyd Motor Werks. I have owned several BMWs over the past 20 years and recently passed my 2005 530! down to my son who lives in Portland. We needed some repairs and took it to Eric as he was honest about the service needed and offered a fair price for the repairs. Unfortunately after the service was completed, we had another issue that we couldnt determine if it was a result of the repairs or a new problem. Eric and his team took complete responsibility that the new issue was corrected and did so at his time and expense. Having a mechanic you can trust, and have faith wont take advantage of you, is uncommon these days, and I am extremely happy we found Eric and Boyd Motor Werks
Eric is a stand up guy, Got my car in next day, No BS no DRAMATICS to drive cost, professional and personable. Very inexpensive.
These guys did great work on my car for less than I would have paid elsewhere. They did not recommend unnecessary extras and were prompt and courteous.Would definitely use them again. . . .
My BMW 3-series received a concerning check control light during a business trip driving from Seattle to Portland 2 days ago. When arrived in Portland, the concierge (a Portland native) at the Hotel Monaco where I was staying recommended Boyds.I called and talked to Gary the owner - a very kindhearted guy who really cares about his clients and his passion for Bimmers is extremely apparent. despite being extremely busy (so busy he warned me they probably couldnt get to it until next week) he told me to bring it over so he could scan the codes to determine requires service and ensure would be safe for me to drive home. And he only charged 1/2 hour $45 for the scan, which you NEVER see). Despite being 4-5 days out, he squeezed me in and work was completed the following morning so I was able to return to Seattle that afternoon.these guys are extremely efficient, inexpensive, and completely trustworthy. I drive to Portland once a month, and its comforting to know theres a place in Portland similar to my BMW specialist in Seattle. Top Shelf.
The guys at Boyd Motor Werks are great! They take excellent care of my BMW. There is never a long wait and there has been the occasion where I have just stopped by to quickly ask them to look at something and give an opinion and they were happy to do so.Great NE location and good prices. I wouldnt go anywhere else.Shea Steel
Best BMW service in town, I always recommend my customers to them when the break down.
Had a great experience with a recent trip to Boyd - the guys were fair, honest, and great about explaining things to me. Will definitely return. Highly recommended.
We bring our BMW here for all repairs and oil changes. They are fast efficient and always break all cost/repairs down so I can understand, Which I really appreciate.
We have take our BMW to Boyd Motor Werks a few times, we wanted to try them out because Kuni is too far for us. There is no doubt that they do a good job and they are knowledgeable. They are also very quick!!!!
Eric was great and totally solved my problem saving me potentially a few thousand dollars. Because Boyd now offers DEQ smog testing in house, I was able to get my car tested and registered in one step (and if repairs were required, that too). A BMW dealer was trying to get me to pay over $13,000 for repairs that were not even necessary to pass my emissions test. If or when I do need to do these same repairs, Boyds quote was $thousands less. And on top of all this, Eric replaced a burned out lamp for $15 when BMW wanted $100, and he called me to follow up on my service the following Monday. Great Service. My new repair shop for my BMW X5.....thanks
Excellent, timely service. I really appreciated how they took payment over the phone and put my key in a lockbox so I could pick my car up at night.
We have been working with the good folks at Boyds Motors Werks for many years. They are always very professional and focus on having the highest quality standards possible.
My car has been expensive to get repaired. Routine maintenance has actually become frequent maintenance which sucks because repairing BMWs is expensive. If you own a BMW you know this. So you can understand why people would suspect their BMW shop every time they visit. You cant tell whether youre getting the straight scoop because, hey, most of us dont know dick about whats under our hoods (of our cars).Thats why Ive recently had a couple experiences with Boyd that convinces me Eric and his father Gary know what theyre talking about and arent trying to screw me.First, when I expressed a few concerns I had with workmanship over the past few repair visits, Eric responded immediately (though honestly, hesitant at first). He acknowledged the issues and had me in the next day to make it right which he did at no cost to me. I appreciated that since in his words (which I know, since I see my bank statement) Im one of their best and frequent customers (Ive been taking
I own a 2007 BMW Z4si that Ive been taking to Boyd Motor Werks for several years. Ive occasionally used the BMW dealership for routine maintenance, but I now take it to Boyds exclusively because the quality of their work is always first-class and they are willing and able to correct certain things that the dealership would not even consider addressing. Often, if there was something I found annoying or even possibly dangerous about the car, the dealership would inform me that everything was within specs and send me on my way, whereas Boyds would actually listen to my problem and do whatever was possible to correct it.As an example; after hitting a huge bump in the road that was jarring enough to knock the aim of the headlights virtually straight down I took it to the dealership, which made a minor alteration that was insufficient for safe visibility at night. After driving practically blind in the dark for a while I took it back for further adjustment but was told the headlight aim was within specs. I drove like that until I finally took it to Boyds for a second opinion. They adjusted the headlights to where the low beams finally illuminate the road clearly, just as they had done before I hit the bump that threw them completely out of whack.Another time I had an annoying rattle in the left door. The dealership told me it was one of those things that I should probably just learn to live with, as the source of rattles can be very hard to find. But Boyds actually found and fixed the problem and I havent heard a single rattle since. Probably a fair bit of luck was involved, but the fact that they were even willing to check it out was telling. The main advantage of Boyds is that youre interacting with genuine mechanics who really know what theyre doing. Compare that with the typical dealership where you deal exclusively with customer service representatives who may or may not know a wrench from a screwdriver, and youre completely insulated from those who are actually doing the work on your car. Boyds is a genuine, old-time auto service garage that specializes in BMWs and Minis. If youd rather go to an sterile environment where youre asked incessantly whether youre having a nice day by a bunch of chirpy millennials while you munch on tiny snacks and sip a latte, the dealership is the place for you. But if you want your car maintained and/or repaired right the first time, every time, Boyds is the only place to go.
GREAT PRICEGREAT CUSTOMER SERVICEEXCELLENT COMMUNICATIONI am done with dealerships attitudes and overpriced- It is good to find a quality shop that does good work and has good customer service. I will be returning with My ZVERY HAPPY!
I found Boyd Motorwerks while driving through Portland one afternoon about 6 years ago. They have been the answer to my finding great service and good prices to maintain my 1998 328is BMW. I have over 200,000 miles on the odometer and it is still running like a dream. They keep watch on the aging systems and seals so I know when to attend to problems before they become major. Several years back they repaired the air conditioner for much less than the dealer, who wanted to replace the whole thing, and it has been working perfectly ever since. When a new head lamp developed moisture inside during the first few months it was in place, they immediately replaced the defective unit with a new one at no cost to me. The only thing they have been unable to repair is the original remote lock beeper that has quit working. They keep my baby humming and I fully expect to get another 100,000 miles on it. Finding Boyd Motor Werks was a great thing and it assures that my BMW will keep on running for a long time. They have good coffee, too, if you wait on a repair or oil change.
Took my BMW here to have wheel/suspension work done. The shop took weeks to return the car and when they did had not completed the work. They gave me back the car saying it was impossible to fix but still wanted me to pay many hours worth of labor. When I received the car they had cut my ABS line near the rear wheel. When i asked them to repair the mistake, they denied their involvement and the owner himself berated me and refused to fix it. He even threatened me.I took the car to another shop which completed the work quickly with no hassle.
AGS . Always Great Service
For quick, reliable service and repairs I highly recommend Boyds. Prices are competitive and you can count on them to give you a honest, no-nonsense answer to questions.
Ive been trusting my 1986 735 with the guys at Boyd Motor Werks since I bought the car three years ago. Great service and knowledgeable staff.
A friend referred us to Boyds for our older 525i wagon. The care shown to our well worn family car has been great! Its running well despite advanced age and many miles. Boyds mechanics have been equally helpful with emergency and routine needs.
Same day service. Competitive pricing. Clear explanations. Highly reccommend
Eric and Gary and the team are extremely trustworthy. I do not hesitate to recommend this shop for anyone with a BMW who expects a higher level of service and honesty.
Great service and knowledgeable staff.
They are not mechanics
Ive taken our 2005 325xi BMW to Boyd Motor Werks several times. They have been extremely helpful with diagnosing the problem and fixing it and they were significantly lower in price than the BMW dealership.I will continue to use their services.
When I bought a vintage 1974 BMW 2002, I asked around for the best BMW repair shop in town. The answer was resoundingly Boyd Motor Werks. Now, after being a customer for the few years, I understand why.Gary and Eric are very experienced and go out of their way to make their customers happy. The prices are fair too. I had my engine rebuilt at a very reasonable price, but before doing so, I asked around again to make sure it was a good value. Other mechanics said it was fair and said that they too had heard good things about Boyds. The engine rebuild was top notch and I feel good about them standing behind their work.In fact, the few times that a mistake has been made, theyve gone above and beyond (so much so that I question how they can stay in business!) to make it right.Gary likes to share wisdom about cars and if you have any sense youll listen. Its worth the time to learn about your car and how he is approaching repairs. Eric has great customer service skills. He has even helped me in a pinch on weekends.BMWs are not cheap to maintain, so Im sure they deal with a lot of people who are disappointed about spending $$$ to keep their cars running. But these guys are highly skilled, fair and friendly. Ive spent a lot of money at Boyds on repairing/restoring my car and I still feel like Ive gotten away with something. I dont have a lot of money to throw at making my car perfect and these guys have helped me figure out where I can cut corners financially and still be happy with the car, even going so far as to give advice on repairs I could do myself. If I could give any constructive criticism, it would be that sometimes they take longer to do jobs than I would hope (but this is usually due to waiting for older parts) and it seems like they sometimes hire techs who arent totally up to speed on the level of knowledge and skill required for BMW cars. That said, I have a lot of trust in these guys and so far that trust has been rewarded.
Weve been taking our BMW X3si to Boyd Motor Werks for over four years! The relationship with Gary, Eric and the entire gang is something you wont find at a dealership service center. We feel like Boyd is part of the family, and as long as we own our BMW, we will continue to rely on them for the best service in Portland. BOYD MOTOR WERKS - Werks for us!D & K Welch
The quote was for $1,200 of work, and it came out to be more like $1,800. My husband says the price of the work on a window was higher than when we had work done on the other window....but I said maybe cost of parts went up.Then when we were driving to breakfast yesterday morning, some random brake and 4x4/DSC lights came on. Last time we had work done by Boyds, something else went wrong afterwards too and we had to have a tow.We appreciate the expertise of the business, but I wouldnt say we have had the totally best experiences yet....and there is still more than $1000 worth of work to do. Well go back.....but Im hoping we can have better experiences to be able to up the ranking.
Great shop very friendly staff. Prices were decent, some repairs a bit spendy but thats to be expected at most repair shops. I will from now on bring my bmw here for repairs and service.
It was an emergency and didnt realize they only serviced BMWs but they still helped me out on the spot! Thank you Eric!
I had my water pump blow out on my 2006 330xi. I had my car towed to the first BMW mechanic that showed up on google search which happened to be Boyd Motor Works. They called me when they started working on it to give me the quote. They quoted me at a little over $1300 to replace the water pump and the thermostat. I called Portland BMW dealership and asked for the same quote. They quoted me $1100. I called Boyd back and they stated that it was a computer glitch that caused the high quote. I accepted that and they told me $1100 for the fix (This seamed very strange to me based on previous experiences that a private small mechanic would charge as much as the dealership but I had not choice at this time). Once finished, I talked to my old mechanic and two BMW dealerships to compare pricing. Boyd charged me for the initial inspection ($100) even though I had them fix the problem. BMW dealerships dont even charge you for this if you have the work done with them. Boyd charge me the same amount for the cost of both the thermostat and water pump that the dealership charges. Previously private mechanics charged less than BMW dealerships for work I had done. Boyd charged $100 per hour (BMW dealerships charge $120). In the end Boyd charged me $70 less for labor (3.5 hours) yet $100 more for assessment then two BMW dealerships would have done. This means that in the end I paid $30 more to have Boyd do the work that Portland BMW. Does this make sense? I called my old mechanic (Johns Auto Care in Medford Oregon) and they quoted me $850 for the work. They said I should not get charged the $100 for assessment and they would have sold me the parts for a discounted rate from what BMW sells them. To make things worse, I asked them how much to replace valve lifters in my engine that cause a ticking noise. Boyd said this would be a 3-4 thousand dollar fix because of how far into the engine they had to go. I asked Johns auto care about this. They quoted me $1000 - $1100. They said it was a 4 hour job. To be clear, Johns is a certified BMW mechanic. They have all the required equipment and computers to read all the sensors, and to correctly do the timing for the vehicle after a job like this. Their mechanics are ex BMW dealer mechanics. They quoted me 2-4 thousand below Boyd for this job. Bottom line, based on this single experience, Boyd overcharges for their work and appeared to rely on customer ignorance with regard to cost of service. I would have gladly been a return customer and raved on this review if they had treated me fairly. I would like to reiterate that the work they did appears to be done well. I do not have any problems with my cars coolant system since my fix. This poor review is purely due to being taken advantage of financially.
Bad experience. If you are clueless on how your car works, then by all means spend your money here. Otherwise find a shop who doesnt steal your time and money. Especially Gary. Will charge you a ton for half ass work. Without a update at that.Never again!
They know what they are doing on BMWs and are cheaper than the dealer.
Best BMW shop in Portland
Great service and experience
Gary has kept my 71 2002 running for years. Wouldnt ever go anywhere else.
Perfect 👍👌
Best shop around
Good mechanics
Genuine BMW experts.
