There are plenty of breweries on the west coast. Portland has more than its share, and Rogue is among the best. This makes opening spots like this a low risk venture, because even average food is made better by fabulous beer on tap. Fortunately, the food at Rogue Hall is actually fantastic. I have been a couple of times and as a group we have probably tried most of the menu. Their pizzas are very well done and a perfect accompaniment to a good beer. They have it figured out because you could come with a group and those who didnt want to drink have delicious food, and those who dont want to eat have an extensive beer menu.
I ride my bike here twice & both times they were out of pizza:/ I found out they have limited slices, so get there early next year. I love that they have a picture of their farm on the wall, the food looks good & I enjoyed a tasty beer for my troubles, the staff was very kind. The beer was full, but I took the picture after my first few sips. I loved learning about the special nitro glasses and am enjoying the chocolate Stout mixed with a hazelnut Brew:)
I love the beer here! They have an amazing hazelnut one that you must try if you enjoy browns. Their salmon soup is usually incredible (though Ive had one so-so bowl). They have a great patio with lots of seating. The service is very nice and they have a great indoor fireplace at the bar. Two very small TVs but lots of board games.
Huge fan of many, many Rogue brews and this location, staff, and selection definitely will not disappoint! Minors gladly welcome, so bring the whole family for some refreshing pints and gourmet grub. The Kulture Klash hopped Kombucha was one of the best Ive ever had, with fantastic flavor and a whopping ~6.5% ABV... Tasted amazing! The Marionberry Sour was also incredible, not very sour at all, but rather just mouth wateringly tasty and surprisingly thirst quenching. Oh my, cant forget the Cold Brew 2.0 Coffee Stout which was beyond words, served extra cold and ridiculously smooth! Awesome!White Cheddar Fried Cheese Curds with three dipping sauces were divine, the fried cauliflower slightly less appealing with minimal seasoning. Our bartender was very friendly and efficient, making the experience all the more merrier! There is a decent amount of dining room and bar seating, plus a fair sized patio with ample space. Great visit with 3 and 6 month old babies! Convenient location near the PSU farmers market. Cant wait to return! Thanks!Best,~S
I adore this Rouge! Great beer, amazing food and even better staff that does not rotate near as much as other places. I dont believe I have ever had a bad experience here. I do with the heat lamps could come on sooner in the colder months for year round outdoor seating. But that is small potatoes compared to the happy, home feeling I get when I show up.
Edited Review: The manager contacted me and is going to post the prices for everyone. I feel heard and I have updated this review from one star to five because they are excellent! Thank you to the staff, bartenders, and brewers! The service and drinks are amazing.Buyer beware! I had no idea that one shot of whiskey was $8.50. None of their prices are listed.
Eat the Curd Burger... Seriously, do it. It was amazing. The beer was great too, the service was lovely and the outdoor seating was great on a sunny afternoon.I would definitely recommend a visit for anyone keen to try local beers and explore the breweries in Portland. Its a really enjoyable trip.
My friends and I walked in on Saturday afternoon, after we had walked around Farmers Market in the park blocks for the past few hours. We walked in at the perfect time, we perched up at the bar, and soon the whole restaurant was nearly full. The bartender at the time, was this super charismatic guy, I wish I remembered his name. Id highly recommend this place, it was nice and cool to get out of the heat and have a nice drink.
Best bar on campus, literally met all my friends here.
Good Food & ServiceThis place is known for their bier, but I cant comment on that. I can say the burger and fries was well above average, and the service was attentive, without being overbearing. Full bar. Pleasant yet casual brewpub atmosphere. Menu lacked any outward signs of dietary considerations, lacking gluten free, dairy, or vegetarian call outs. This is a bit surprising for a pub in an town otherwise rather diet conscious.
The chowder was delightful, and the blue cheese sauce that came with the soft pretzels was the first blue cheese anything Ive ever liked. It was severely understaffed, but youd barely notice-- the server was sweet and attentive despite having to help 30+ people by themselves. (Including a 14 top!) My food still arrived within 10 minutes. I look forward to coming back.
What an Afternoon Delight! And to think, I almost walked into Subway out of desperation.Smoked Salmon Chowder rocked, and the Kobe Beef Burger is to die for! Great, prompt service, and clean! A must!
Ive changed my rating from 4 to 3 stars since their menu change last month. Ive tried a few different things, halibut, rueben, cheeseburger. ..unfortunately it feels like a lot of the flavor is missing. New cooks too? The fries on the side is a much smaller portion then before. I miss tater tots. :( Burgers are served on this wood cutting board. Wood is porous, can be hard to clean and generally harbors bacteria. Not a good idea. Maybe put wax paper down if you insist on using boards?I like the new ordering process. Its faster and I dont have to wait around for wait staff between classes. I dont have a problem paying more for the beer, that makes sense, especially given the rogue nation incentives. Not bad overall, just needs some fine tuning.
Didnt eat here but they were nice about letting me use the bathroom. Smelled good though! Gotta love Rogue♥️
Good place to grab a beer after (or between) classes. Situated in the ground floor of an apartment building just off the Park blocks, Rogue Hall is an easy and accessible place for PSU students and professors and faculty alike to grab some beers.Tap list is all Rogue beers, and theyre alright. Not my favourite, but there are always a couple of options that I enjoy. Cold brew IPA is definitely a great go to.Ive not eaten here, but they have a full kitchen and food is available. Indoor seating has many options, and their picnic table patio offers seating for dog folk, smokers, and those who just want some fresh quiet air.
I used to live nearby and go to this place with my boyfriend all the time. Great food, fun atmosphere and lovable staff :) we miss you guys
My first time. I am not a local. We didnt have the greatest first impression. Although I know older people feel they are entitled to be first. Just some customers are so loyal they will ignore the fact an outsider is trying this place for the first time. But other than there over loyal customers the employees here are awesome. I definitely would come back.
This place has a nice vibe and friendly staff. We went on an off night so they were slow. We were greeted quickly and service was fast. My wife had a cider and I an IPA, plus we shared some chicken wings. Everything was excellent. They also have a lot of gear and beer for sale too. Recommended if youre passing through the Portland area.
I cannot express enough the love I have for the waitstaff here. The foods great, yes, happy hour is a hell of a deal and taco tuesdays are dope (if you get sweet potato tacos get the jalapeno jelly and if you get chicken then the korean bbq is the best sauce, mix with ranch if too spicy) but the staff are absolutely top notch. I forgot my cocoa cup today, its a miracle of a cup because I never measure how much I make but it always fits and is therefore my favorite cup, and not only did they still have it the even WASHED IT for me. How sweet is that? Again, super considerate and amazing staff. Always above and beyond.
The menu on the Google Maps link is not even close to the menu at the restaurant. In this case for me that was a bummer since it was kind of a deal breaker for one persons needs in our group. Aside from that the server was good and the atmosphere was what we were expecting.
They have fun bean bag toss games that you can play if you ask the bartender. I have always had great service at the bar, and the employees seem pretty friendly and accommodating. I would skip on the food though and just enjoy the beers (and full bar).
Great brewpub on campus. I adore the layout of the place and enjoy the fire pit in the middle of the pub. The staff is extremely friendly and happy to chat
For some bizarre reason they cant do 32oz growlee fills(???).
The staff was unbelievably welcoming! Their generosity and friendliness led to one of my best nights out to date. Can’t recommend these guys highly enough—and go for the kombucha beer!
Good service, good food, and a good amount of outdoor seating.
NOT JUST FOR COLLEGE STUDENTS!Stopped by after a movie w/ the BF last night. Wed been to their garage sale a couple days prior & had picked up a case of a new IPA we really liked. So last night we decided to eat & pick up another case.It was 9pm and not too crowded. Plus - this is the important thing - its WAAAAAAYYYYY better than the incredibly noisy Rogue on the East side. It was pleasant & cozy. The two things we ordered were delicious.Im afraid that our previously beloved Rogue in the Pearl is going to switch to this model of standing in line / no table service. This is a Portland thing & I hate it. Even the most working class diners in NYC (the few that existed by the time I left in 2015) had table service. And nowhere does anyone expect you to bus your own tables. But I digress! Since we were making a quick, 1-bevvie stop we didnt care about the ordering in line bit, and its definitely preferable (and closer to us!) than the east side outpost. I felt like I needed ear-plugs at *that* place.
This place has been delicious every time Ive gone. Great drinks and food, happy hour available, and outdoor seating to die for. I reccommend a burger. Tots with sauce choices are phenomenal for a happy hour snack.
Trendy, college area bar.... Mostly under 40 age group while there. Excellent tap choices!
Cozy atmosphere and great staff! Food came quick, hot, and delicious :)
What is it about this dark little PSU themed Rouge bar? I cant stop coming back. I like the huge rouge beer selection, and I like how social the staff can be. They are very good with a large group as well. There is also a Trivia night!
Rogue brews are always good, imo. Place is a touch noisy (duh, where are we). Food is on par with some other top rated tap houses. Friendly and accommodating service.
This place used to be my favorite hangout. Now though? Not worth it. Youll pay way too much for beer and food thats meh at best, if you can fight your way through the terrible service. This isnt a one time review either, Ive had the same server consistently provide the shortest and rudest service Ive ever received at a bar in Portland. What a shame. RIP Clam Chowder, RIP independent local taproom. Feels like a Chilis now.
The service is great and the beer is.. well its Rogue, so its amazing. The food is good but not great.
Not super stoked about the changed menu. they had these dank ass crab kimchi sliders that were replaced with buffalo chicken sliders. we got them anyways, the buns were kind of burnt, and couldve benefited from an actual bleu cheese sauce instead of just some crumbles. also a potato chip in the middle of the slider AND served with potato chips? odd.we also ordered the cheese curds, which weve ordered before. they now give you half as many for the same price. curds were served on a 4 oz serving of lettuce, hello food waste. wont be returning. sucks cos we live in the same building. beers good, good service, just not hyped on the new menu. did anyone who approved the changed menu actually cook any of the plates? serious question.
The blue balls and the fish and chips are great. The beer is beyond great. The service is wonderful. I love this place.
This is a good study spot. Grab some food, sit down, and enjoy some music as you read.
Cozy brew pub with a limited but quality menu. Plenty of good beer options that rotate from their own breweries
Great beer, good food. Has a cool shop inside to buy rogue swag at.
Great place. Excellent atmosphere and wonderful beer. Chip is amazing and will make it an experience!
Food was great but bartender poured our vodka drinks and they tasted just like tequila. We asked if it was a mispour and he said, no our vodka tastes like tequila very rudely. Ive had many types of Rogue vodka and Ive NEVER tasted one that was similar to tequila.
This post has been edited and I changed my star rating.Edit- I wish I could write a second review... My first experience here wasnt a great first impression but I did go back 3 more times that week and the sevice was much better and very friendly and left a much better impression going forward.Original postThe waitress gal is somewhat friendly but service is super sluggish slow, Im dying for a glass of water but I havent seen our waitress in ages. The rootbeer float didnt have much icecream in it.... my food came with my girlfriends tots and hers came with my fries... that part is not super big deal.... the part that bugs me is I love cheese curds and I needed a little more than just 2 cheese curds... I was super excited about the cheese curd buger but it hardly had any cheese curds on it!!! Super duper disappointing!!!! =(
McDonalds tier staff with excellent food, the overall service should not damage this places reputation but it has gotten bad enough to do so, although do not be dissuaded entirely because of this. The pricing is going up, but a good try.
The rogue has a great selection for food and for the beer as well, my only downside is the price tag that comes. But the waitstaff were a great bunch of people and if you show up after the fourth time and if your like me, an easy read.. they know and bam quick as hell..
I said hello to the waiter. But, he ignored me. He was too busy chatting with other people about his personal life. After waiting five minutes, I decided not to pay for a $14 burger. The place was nearly empty.
Great selection of beer, even beers not from Rogue. They have sales on their beer every holiday. So hit it up!
Love heading here for the evening. Fantastic brews and burgers, laid back friendly staff.
Had to duck into this place during an actual riot tear gas and everything. Once inside you couldnt tell what was happening just outside their doors. Beer was good.
CHIP JUST TOLD ME THE BIGGEST LIE IN THE BAR.... I LOVE THE FACT THAT WHEN HE TOLD ME THAT 3 TO 4 PEOPLE JUST WALKED OUT THE BAR...... THANK YOU GOD.
Great service, delicious food, and beer to match! Highly recommended!
Friendly atmosphere, awesome bartender, good food. Too easy.
New menu sucks. Not much variety in food or price. Order at the bar, they bring to you. Want another drink? gotta go order at the bar every time coz they will not come check on you.
So not excited to see Paccini go and have this family filled Rogue Hall replace it. Its cool though, its on a college campus so the obvious straying away from serving college students makes sense. Cool beans.
When I went to school at PSU and frequented here with my lab group, I had okay experiences with decent food, (I really liked the people who work there, they were always very sweet/worked hard) until my final one. The owner/head manager was helping our table, and he was incredibly patronizing to me when I was the only person in my group who didnt order a meal or liquor. I had class in less than 30 minutes and I just wanted to order a small appetizer instead of a meal, while the rest of my group (we were all on the same bill anyway, so it -really- shouldnt have mattered) ordered beer and a meal. He refused to let me order unless I bought more, apparently I wasnt spending enough money for his liking? I told him I wouldnt order, and he looked surprised. I couldnt believe how cheap and rude the owner was about it, and Ive refused to go ever since. The foodcarts and surrounding cafes (and Shigezo is nearby!) have better meals for more reasonable prices, and there are plenty of interesting casual places to drink if youre inclined. Its a shame that a place with a somewhat comfortable atmosphere near my college was ruined by that experience (it is a college bar, so it was nothing special, but it was okay). Its also worth noting that there were not really any suitable range of options for people who have dietary restrictions.
Rogue beer is great, but the food at this place isnt. Pizza was a huge slice of lame -- weak crust, and the sauce tasted like it came from a Lunchables packet. Chili was good, though; it had a nice beer taste. Didnt have a lunch menu or lunch specials, so most of the stuff was $10 or more. Dining area doesnt really flow into the bar area well. Kind of awkward listening to the chef be a weirdo while we waited for our food.Id come back for dinner to have more beer and try some other food.
Awesome beer, and surprisingly good food. In definitely a fan. A of place to go when the fiancée us finished with her classes for the day.
One of the best brews in town, hands down!!!! Food is good and staff is great 😎😎
If you want the flavor and joy of Rogue without all the tourists and Suburbanites _this_ is the Hall for you!
Way over-priced, mediocre food and drinks. The service wasnt very good either.
My server was, I believe, Aly, and she was awesome! A bit expensive but also I had the whiskey sampler and the spirits are usually expensive. I hope this review can work as that extra bit, since I could not tip as I had hoped.
Quality staff, great location, if youre not a part of Rogue Nation, you should sign up.
Great underrated spot close the PSU. Excellent beer selection, great service, good food. Beats the other options nearby hands down.
Great food and beer! Halibut and chips are perfect with a #7 IPA.
Steve can mix the bestDrinks with style and aplombWarmth flows from the hearth
No better beer in Portland. Cool place to hang out and tease the intellectually elite.
All staff was knowledgeable about beer on tap and happy to make suggestions or provide tastes.
How hard is it to make chicken strips? WORST EVER! I dont know whats going on in the kitchen, but it taste like they need some help. Ill never spend my money here or recommend this place to anyone. On top of the what ever you call chicken strips our waiter was as useless as the kitchen staff.
Rouge beers on tap and the student vibe makes for a fun night
One of the best breweries in town, must see for all travelers and beer lovers!
Good food, good beer, good company.Thank you.
Great location on the PSU campus, with a good amount of seating and even some picnic tables that are useful for those good weather Portland days.
2nd coming...but not really happy with the waitress...she kind of ignores and not really interested with what I asked for table and drink. Maybe my language is not real good but the ways she treat is not as an server.....
The beer is great. The food is pretty much mcmennamins.
Its another Rogue experience but nothing different than the Flanders location. If youre going to go to a Rogue in Portland, go to the Green Dragon where they at least serve more than just their beer.
Solid food and options considering its a chain pub, like with the main restaurant and the one at PDX. Burgers are a bit undersized but came with tons of really good tater tots, which in my mind made up for it. :) I really wish Rogue would bring back their pasta with the kobe meatballs, that was a fantastic combo. Im not a fan of most Rogue beers, but if you like sweeter but rich beers, the Hazelnut brown and the Marionberry braggot (11.5%!) are tasty.
Good neighborhood pub with mix of students and locals.
Great beef and brew pub, really close to center of campus
I went and sat on the patio, waiter walked by without acknowledging my girlfriend and I about 5 times over the coarse of 30 minutes. First time I have had to leave a restaurant without ordering in a long long time. I wont be back
The food is ok. The beer is good. The space is a little dreary.
Good vibes, friendly staff, and a great place to get a drink.
Typical building on campus. But they do need to offer more seating when you have a class thats two hours in between.
Overpriced beer, like all the Rogue joints. The bar staff is tepid at best, completely off-putting at worst. There are not many other bars in the PSU area, but I would avoid this one. Try Schmizza on 4th and Montgomery. They at least have happy hour beer prices, unlike Rogue.
The beer is pricey but the clam chowder is the best I have every had. It taste even better after you have a few drinks!
Best Rogue location. Ambiance is cozy.
Solid spot to grab a beer with good atmosphere.
Expensive but great beer and good food.
Good beer, good food. Service can get slow but its Portland!
Food is okay but a tad bit pricey considering the portion size. Wonderfully decorated with staff at par for an average pub.
Great place, The jsu has there jews and brews there often.
FOOD: The food is pretty terrible. Dont go in expecting much. It is overpriced and very low quality. Dont expect anything healthy and dont be fooled by the bean salad. It is not what you think. A tiny little bowl with black beans and corn haphazardly slapped into it. Hardly a salad. Even the tots are pretty low quality. Skip the food, just go for the good beers...which are pretty few and far between being as they rotate them constantly.SERVICE: Pretty hit and miss. There are two servers here (Daniel and Lauren) that will make your experience extraordinary. These two seem to be the only servers here who enjoy the customers they serve. All of the other servers I have encountered have had REALLY bad attitudes. Upon my last visit one of them made a comment as I was checking out, Been sitting here all day, might as well pay for something. This is an establishment on a college campus, many people come in and study while they eat/drink. I had only been there an hour (killing time between classes and catching up on some reading). There is no excuse for this server to have this kind of attitude with any student who is a patron of this establishment.DECOR/ENVIRONMENT: The environment can be quite pleasant if you have the right server. College students are a good majority of the patrons and they are usually pretty laid back. Just beware of the hit-or-miss service quality.
Spendy beer, food is mediocre. Its definitely a college bar.
Tasty beer, tasty food, great service!
Great selection of beers. Wasnt able to try the food but tried the main brewpub in Newport the day before.
I do miss Paccinis but Rogue is a nice fit. Its too bad its a little pricey, however.
Truly some of the lowest quality food Ive had in all of Portland - its like they took the most processed and flavor-enhanced bleached wheat product and slathered it on low quality meat & potatoes with a 30% markup from what you think it might be worth. The beer is good to very good. Service is totally hit and miss, some of the staff is super friendly and helpful, others are out and out rude and inattentive. The atmosphere is great - its a shame its sometimes unpleasant to be in it.
