This is a great shop for more accousticallyindes folk. A fair number of accoustic guitars and ukeleles on hand. The staff are very familiar with the instruments and are likely able to help you find what you are looking for. Also, it can be a good shop to hang out in and hear folk that know their way around an instrument out it through its paces. They have accessories like strings, reeds, pedals, and such if needed. There is also a section for music sheets, instruction, and such. I highly recommend if you play any type of traditional instrument.
Truly wonderful shop with best in the biz employees! I came bumbling in with zero prior instrument experience and Laura was so kind and astute in her recommendations. She even taught me a couple chords! Portland gets flack sometimes for aloof employees but theres none of that here, just down to earth top qual folks.
Matt helped me out. I came down to check out a guitar and he was great to work with, answered all my questions and was very friendly. The model he showed me didnt quite suit my needs but that didnt stop Matt from giving me all his attention. This store has a huge selection of acoustics and brass, so if thats your thing definitely check them out.
Wide range of great acoustic guitars and other instruments, and knowledgeable, friendly people.
Great store. Laura was super helpful and accommodating during my hunt for a new Martin guitar. This store has a great selection of high quality guitars. I recommend shopping here for all your musical needs. Support small local business, its important
Repair person sold me a part for my flute at a reasonable price. Very happy!
They had an LR baggs preamp di box that Ive been looking for everywhere! Super friendly and accommodating.
I waited 3 weeks for a music book and didn’t get a call back to let me know it was in. They have the knowledge but need to work on customer service
Super helpful to someone (me) who has zero(0) musical knowledge! They got me set up with a nice starter ukulele and pickup! If you just need some info about instruments, save yourself the hassle of trying to weasel info outta a big box store. Or rifling through internet reviews and either give them a call or stop by! It may be a bit extra in price, but its worth it to support a local business and receive honest advice. :)
Awesome staff really helpful and knowledgeable. If youre looking at buying a guitar and want to have someone with knowledge to help you out on your purchase would recommend these guys 100%
Great place! Service staff was more than happy to show my daughter how two different instruments played. If you need an acoustic instrument like a violin, uke, or guitar this is the place to go. Light on assortment but good quality for the things there. Sign is too small out front so pay attention when you get close. Also windows covered in paper (for reasons, its Portland).
Fair prices, very knowledgeable and helpful staff
I have plenty of praises for Portland Music Company. I bought an amp that suffered a factory defect, completely out of P.M.C.s control, it happens. They made every effort to satisfy my needs. And, wow, did they. I truly enjoy supporting small and family owned businesses. The store on 25th and NE Broadway has mine and my familys business for life.
The staff is great. While checking out, the guitar tech told me about their personal guitar project. Its nice to see people sharing their passions and feel invited to the space.
Larry and Laura are awesome! I purchased a Breedlove guitar and a bunch of equipment. Laura, whos a luthier was able to solve some complex issues related to my tonewood amp installation on the Breedlove. They also handled a warranty issue for a defective pickup in my new guitar. They take the time to educate you with your new tools and go the extra mile to take care of you. Theyre both very knowledgeable about the products they sell.
Nice selection and very friendly staff!
Love having a music store in the neighborhood! Able to walk and get valve oil/ponder a birthday guitar purchase on my lunch break and they can order sheet music for piano lessons from their other locations or distributors.
Knowledgeable, helpful staff. Would definitely recommend for musicians of all levels.
All time favorite music shop. Love this place. Seriously, doesn’t get any better as far as quality, not only for instruments and gear but also sales staff and help. Love. Love love this place.
Lots of selection. They just said you too check out what you are after. And they are the two answer questions. Great combination.
Sold me a defective set of strings, (2 strings broke within a week and a third broke a couple days after that) and refused to replace them. I recommend you take your business elsewhere.
Always a pleasure visiting Portland Music! The service and prices have always been the best in town. I have never walked away from their store disappointed. Purchased several instruments from them over the years, all of which have been great. They have earned a life long customer with me.
I had a wonderful experience at Portland music co. They helped me find a teacher for my lap steel guitar and Laura helped me tune my instrument! I highly recommend portland music co for all your musical needs.
I went in today to look for cables to connect my instruments into recording software, but the young blonde woman (maybe mid 20s-early 30s), was talking on the phone the entire time, and didnt greet or ask if I needed any help while standing near the counter looking at items behind it. She was on the phone the entire time. I was about to at least buy an amp chord that I knew I needed but would much rather support another place where its welcoming for those who would be willing to offer advice on the products that theyre overseeing. Ive never had such bad customer service at any business or estblishment. Plenty of better music stores that offer a way larger selection of music instruments and accessories.
Lots of great guitars and the staff is very helpful too.
Really friendly and knowledgable staff who have helped me over the last year. Most recently had an in depth conversation about which banjo strings I should use - thank you to the associate whose name starts with an L!- Banjo dude, beard & bandana
Great service, got me the weird cable I was looking for after calling and checking another store. Staff was friendly.
Found a sweet TSA case for my Taylor! Every time I deal with this music store, the gear is the tops and the people are always great. Much appreciated.
Had great service and found a great piece of used gear for a good price.
Excellent selection, especially acoustic guitars and ukuleles!!!
This is where you go if you don’t want to get ripped off by Guitar Center 💯
Excellent place to go for supplies and to accidentally wind up buying a really awesome instrument.
I bought a Breedlove discovery companion guitar from the Portland Music Company (Broadway store). I love it! The two guys helping me were awesome. Helpful, informative and friendly. Great experience!
I brought my sons saxophone to get looked at because his Octave Key apparently was broken. They were amazing! Fred came back from lunch early to help us out. He let us know that it was missing a screw and it was in serious need of a tune up. He took care of it for us just in time for my son to play tomorrow. Thank you so much. I highly recommend this place if you are on the hunt for a music instrument. They provide great service. I will be coming back to get a tune up on the saxophone once school is out. 👌
Friendly and knowledgeable staff!
Laura is awesome! Awesome customer service!
Dont regularly frequent music stores often. Although they have amazing acoustic guitars like Martins... All high end stuff. The owner and his staff are awesome. If you need acoustic guitar or brass/horns. Appeared mainly non electric music equipment i highly recommend this store.
Extremely helpful and positive. Will be a return shopper.
Had a remarkable experience at this store today. My wife started up by making a call sharing that I am looking for a new guitar that will be good for fingerstyle, after listening to my desire to have something more me, and they said, yeah we can help, come on in, and gave recommendations over the phone. When we arrived, they set me up with a Martin Road Series that was an automatic win based on my preferences, as well as some recommendations towards a Guild and a Eastman.Inevitably, I ended up getting the Martin Road Series, but let me just say, the knowledge of the product and the willingness to help and not be pushy was amazing, and won me over. They even threw in an extra set of strings with the guitar which was an awesome touch!
They serviced my clarinet and took all the clacking out of the keys, got it all sparkly and shinny, fixed some leaky keys, just overall got it all working real sharp. Very happy with the service. People there are real nice as well.
Very nice people, but I have to say I was slightly disappointed with the selection, personally. Maybe you NW folks havent been to any good guitar stores but this place is small and had very few electrics and no Gibsons. No Orange amps... Some nice acoustics and decent selection but... being from out of town, I have seen better stores in Seattle. Again, nice people but...
Very good selection of super high end acoustic guitars. Limited selection of electric guitars and guitar accessories. Staff was friendly.
Smallest inventory and staff had attitude.
Went into the store recently looking for a new or used Taylor 314CE and couldnt get the time of day out of them. They told me they had none in stock and walked away. I had lots of questions. I drove all the way cross town to talk to them. Never go back.
Love this music store. Lots of selections and really friendly, knowledgeable staff.
Such a beautiful and clean store. The man working was very helpful and polite. Testing the guitars and pianos were very nice.
We have had great experiences with Fred Vogel, who does woodwind and brass instrument repairs at the Broadway shop. He has worked on my daughters clarinet several times over the past few years, including one major repair, a couple of tuneups, and a couple of small cork replacements. He can get busy near the start of the school year, but when Ive come in at other times of the year, hes been really nice about doing small repairs quickly--either overnight, or on the spot. His prices are very reasonable. The Broadway shop is also a good place to find band instrument accessories like reeds.
My local shop for strings and things. Online stores just take to long to get what you need. They have a pretty nice consignment section. More banjos needed though!
Service was polite and friendly. Very professional without being cold. The store itself is lovely to visit as well.
Been shopping here for 22 years, and theyve never let me down.
I bought my first new Martin acoustic this week from Matt. Id been in several times comparing as this wasnt a small decision, and hes always rolled out the red carpet, taking down 4 or 5 guitars at a time for me to compare, never getting frustrated when one was nixed from the list and another was added, or when I left without making a purchase. Id been in some big box stores as well, and the experience couldnt even compare. PMCs Broadway acoustic shop is the place to go.When I came back in this week, I had my 4-month old baby since it was the only time I had this particular week to shop while my wife worked. Didnt phase Matt. The back area was stacked with new boxes of Taylors. No big deal. We found a quiet corner in the back where I could park the buggy and play. Matt answered all my questions and hes fun to chat with about the different styles of guitars and the different models. I found the exact model I wanted at a price I could live with. I highly recommend this shop.
The people at Portland Music Company helped me by a bunch of my guitars I still go to them when I need guitar strings or have questions or when Im going to buy new guitars Ive bought a bunch of new guitars from them and these people are fantastic sometimes its very busy but if you catch him at the right time you can definitely have a good experience and they will definitely help you I would give this place a 10 out of 10 if I could but I cant because of the stars on here only let me go so far so Im giving him the highest review their work keep up the work
You are encourage to play the guitars! Staff is friendly, knowledgable, and helpful. If youre tired of the way that you are treated at Guitar Center, try Portland Music Company and support local business!
They helped fixed my sons guitar and were very nice about it.
Had a broken string on my daughters cello. The gal at the counter not only helped us figure out which string, but she helped put it on and tuned it for us before we left. Very much appreciated.
Really friendly and helpful staff. Helped me pick out just the right guitar. Knew I was a Noob but didnt treat me like one, thank you!
Friendly folks and good selection of used guitars.
Came in for a saxophone repair and it came out beautifully. Thank you!
Great sales folks. Very helpful, not pushy.
Good people. But extremely annoying that their store does not mention the extreme focus on guitars at this particular location. The other stores dont do this, and its frustrating to be told if you want to look at more than 2 keyboards you have to drive to another location. It is inconsistent.
Great shop with beautiful guitars and very friendly and service minded people. I am from Amsterdam and bought my martin there. I am very pleased with the guitar and the buying experience they gave me. We are not used to friendly service minded people in the Netherlands.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Great collection for any wallet. I love visiting this neighborhood spot.
Bought 2 acoustic guitars here. Good selection. Knowledgeable. Low key. Helpful without being pushy.
Lovely place to go for many stringed instruments and a few brass
Fred is a repair wizard. They usually have nice vintage saxes for sale as well.
I came in for a very specific ukulele in brand and color. The gentlemen working went above and beyond to find the one I was looking for. 10/10 Will shop again.
Bought a piano with them and decided to put it on credit. The person in charge of their credit is impossible to get a hold of, we called every day at several times throughout the day. You will never know what your balance is. You can never find out how much youve paid previously. Their payment slips dont tell you how much you owe still nor do they have a payment amount on them. Despicable customer service when you try to find out any information about your account.
They have never let me down. Visit if youre a musician.
Very knowledgeable and friendly staff! Prices are fair.
Checked website for Sunday hours, arrived 1:30, sheet music dept. CLOSED Sundays. Said shed put notice on web. NOT!! None of their stores sold sheet music on Sundays. We are from EUGENE. BAD BUSINESS. No good revue from us after that incident.
Great staff and selection. Looks mostly like guitar stuff, but they do have brass and woodwind supplies as well.
The staff are knowledgable, helpful, and friendly. The store has a good selection of band and string instruments.
Friendly and helpful staff. Good selection of popular acoustic guitars and amps.
Great helpful staff, Matt and Kelly made it fun! Excellent wide range of instruments to match taste and budget!!
Great people, great deals! Just got a wonderful new flute there.
We got an absolutely gorgeous used Tenor Sax from this shop for my daughter and they took great care of us!
Friendly staff and a good selection.
Its a good store for basics.
Very helpful staff. Abundance of guitar brands.
Ill start out by saying I am one of those old beginner guitar players. I paid a visit to the competition at Hayden Meadows, I ended up at the MLK store looking for an acoustic to add to my electric. They sent me over to the acoustic store on NE Broadway. Although the store wasnt huge, the selection was decent and there were guitars catering from the absolute beginner to the extreme players.I ended up returning 2 weeks later to strum what few chords I know on various models. The staff answered any and all questions I had, to my satisfaction. I explained I was in there once before and the employee Larry said, Yes, I remember talking with you 2 or 3 weeks ago. I explained what I was looking for and wanted to know if there was a package deal for guitar, case and accesories. He never tried to upsale me and showed me a dozen entry level acoustics ranging in size and price from $99 - $199.I ended up purchasing the first guitar he had shown me, a beautiful Fender solid mahogany top model, a padded Guardian case and accesories.Even after the store started to get busy, Larry made sure I was taken care of and happy.I couldnt be happier with my new acoustic. People like this make who make a first timers experience good have just earned my business. Also a kudos to the MLK store people who also had good customer service and reffered me to the guitar shop on Broadway, or I probably would have made the mistake of going back to the other place with rude employees at Hayden Meadows.
Decent little music shop!
First visit was a little disappointing (didnt have enough $ for horn repair, but my second visit was awesome. Their other location has almost no brass and woodwind stuff, but the broadway one has just about all the extra items (grease, lube, mutes, stands, cases, horns) needed for nust about every instrument. This might be the only place to get band instrument accessories in town...but at least its the best!!!
Helpful staff, good ukulele options.
Great guitar shop with a large variety, and does very good lessons there.
Lots of musical instruments and a serious music store.
Beautiful little shop in NE. Always friendly staff and decent selection of instruments.
Awesome folks, polite, helpful and they didnt make me feel rushed. :-)
I was looking for a new ukulele, not really sure what I was looking for, the guys at PMC were super helpful and walked me through the differences in the instruments that were within my price range. They also restrung it to lefty for me the same day! I plan to go back for my next upgrade, and tell everyone to go to PMC!
Great selection great people.
Nice selection of instruments and knowledgeable, friendly staff.
Anyone playing acoustic [ insert your instrument of choice + 2 from your bucket list here ] should check this store out!
One of the best stores for acoustic guitars I have ever been to! Their selection is top notch and the staff are really nice and helpful. I was able to finally compare a few guitars that are on my list in one sitting (Martin OOO-28, OM-21, OOO-18). Most stores will only have one of those models (if they have one at all). Ill definitely be buying from them when the time comes. They have a great selection of Martin, Taylor, Guild, Fender, Ibanez and other acoustics and a few top of the line guitars from Collings that one can only look at for fear of falling in love.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff and an outstanding selection of instruments
Helpful; only street parking
Hannah was very helpful!
Brass tec is always away. Ill go somewhere else.
Great instruments, friendly service.
Knowledgeable and very nice staff.
Great place, even better service!
