Love this place. “Metal” in its broad term is my favourite type of music, but I also like everything else and this place caters to it all. Has pretty much everything, from Bathory to Shannon & The Clams and 9 times out of 10 you’ll come out of there with what you went in for.
Always great here! Along with Amoeba Records, one of the best stores on the West Coast!😎🤘✨
This used to be a decent source for used vinyl, but now it has mostly new vinyl. There are quite a few books of 78s on the floor near the classic section. There are several boxes of bargain used records for $.99 each and one box of under $5. I found a Donovan record in there I hadnt seen before and bought it ($4.99).
I love this place, they have almost everything you can think of
Mostly new records. Theyre very light on the used vinyl. If new reprint band tshirts are your thing youll be happy here.
This place is Portland monument. Kathy, Todd, Buddy, Matty K, and Jay have all forgotten more about independent music than most of us will ever even know. Its cramped inside because they have a massive selection of records. Its a testament to how great they are that their brick and mortar store has outlasted mega stores like tower records. They really support local musicians which is extremely important in a place like Portland.
Place is great for cool shirts, but every time I come in there I get judged because Im buying a shirt and not a record or CD god forbid and I hear the guy mumbling something about it. Its happened twice now. Fast service though which is nice.
Excellent knowledge base. I am always pleased with my purchases and end up finding some new music. These guys are totally unpretentious and great at giving out information about things that are happening. Also, an interesting collection of shirts for sale.
This store deserves 5 stars. The staff absolutely does not.
I walked past this place and just decided to walk in it has so many records its so cute. Their prices are very reasonable the staff was very nice
Metal, punk, hip-hop? They got you boo boo! Best in Portland
They have just about everything you can think of here. Place was pretty busy the day I went but its a cool place. They have stickers too haha.
Amazing selection of records and t-shirts. Loved it.
Due to covid restrictions, they are only allowing 10 customers in the store at a time. Which means there might be a line when you show up. However, when you get inside, you get to experience one of the best and oldest record stores in Portland. Their selection of vinyl is impressive. Plenty of different genres and plenty of different eras, and their CD collection is just as impressive. Prices are extremely competitive, and you will be hard-pressed to walk out of there without something new for your collection
Best record store in the PNW!!
Awesome place... Insane selection
Best record shop in Portland. Huge selections of everything except techno and electronic music. Lots of cool shirts and hoodies. The staff is very chill. I’ve easily spent over a grand here and I’m cool with that. Little pricey, but nothing that would stop me from shopping there. If you’re record shopping in the rose city, make sure you come to 2nd Avenue records!
A good store to find more niche albums. Less so more mainstream stuff.
A great selection. I found some stuff here I havent seen elsewhere.
Neat little record shop! Will be coming back any chance I get! Its a bit cramped in there but if its not super busy, its easy to navigate around. Theyve got pretty decent selection of Vinyls and Merch. CDs are at the registers so you may have to ask the employees to see more of them. Really nice people there. Cool sticker selection.
Great selection of Vinyl, and the band shirts, tons of them. Could use more medium sizes
Best record store in Portland and they know their music.
In my opinion, the best record shop in PDX. They have a great selection of hard to find non-commercial bands.
I spent $130 on records yesterday at this store, went home, noticed my Outcasts Aqumeni record was broken, immediately called the shop to let them know and they said to bring it back and theyd refund me, I was actually just hoping to get a replacement. Well I went in today to bring it back and the woman working accused me of breaking it myself and said she didnt want to refund me because I was a liar and trying to screw them over. You should probably get batter staff cause the woman working the front counter was disrespectful and rude as hell. First bad experience at this shop. Very disappointed.
Great record inventory. Friendly staff. Enjoyed my first visit. Plan to return.
Old-school record store with a ridiculously wide array of vinyl, cassettes, CDs, and memorabilia. Come in and find that song youre looking for.
Cool record store. Has great selection!
I love this store! Been coming since 2009 and have never had a bad experience.
The people who work here are always so nice and knowledgeable. They have a great selection of vinyl and shirts as well. I always make sure to stop by here everytime I visit.
One of the best records stores Ive ever been to. Amazing selection.
The staff was very helpful and had a great selection of records
The person that works there I dont know his name but he treats customers disrespectful and I wont go there again until they replace him
Fun to flip thru records in crates!! Takes me back to when I was a kid!
Best record store in Portland. If youre a metalheads you will love it. They have a large selection of cds, vinyls, shirts, and some pins. The staff are awesome and very informational.
Are you looking for that LP that brings back fond memories of previous decades? Are you a serious collector trying to complete your collection, but have had difficulties doing so?Try 2nd Avenue Records! You will be AMAZED with their inventory. They specialize in hard-to-find, out of print, limited editions. They will even put your name on a list and do a search for you. You may soon become the proud owner of that coveted LP you have spent so much time trying to acquire. They seem to have the necessary connections to make it happen. The employees are friendly and most helpful. Worth a trip downtown.
Keeping real record stores alive! Excellent place to get hard to find music, shirts etc...Recommend this place to everyone!
Always a great selection, and inventory is categorized in a very sensical, orderly way. I was impressed with the must wear a mask policy, and even saw an employee refuse entry to two young kids who didnt want to wear masks. I appreciate this, and so does the general public. Thanks again!
Nice staff, variety of music. Large selection. Great place to purchase old & new music.
My favorite record store. This is all
Great selection... excellent prices...great lol staff.
Great selection of t shirts
My favorite record store in Portland. Great mix of new and used records. Prices are reasonable with youre more likely to find some hidden gems once in a while. Vibe is a bit claustrophobic cause its packed with records. And sometimes the death metal playing in-store is a bit much. Overall though, the pros of finding good records outweigh the atmosphere.
Love this place! Every time I come to town I plan on spending time here.
Portlands best since the 80s.
Absolutely awesome selection of hard to find and vintage heavy metal and hard rock vinyl, CDs and cassettes. Plus every other genre of music under the sun! T-shirts, buttons, stickers, patches, posters and tapestries everywhere! This place is an excellent destination for old school music heads of any age! Highly recommended!
You could spend hours here. Awesome selection of vinyl and shirts.
They have been around forever and they still are the best in the buisness.Just wish the city would get control over all the extreme homeless people walking around downtown deterring buisness.I personally hardly go downtown anymore because of that problem.
Extensive selection of Metal, punk, and rock shirts. Hail Satan
People are nice, has a large selection of records and shirts
Always a rad place to go and finger through their vinyl. They have a great selection of punk and hardcore. The staff is always helpful and are good company. If you like punk rock, this is a must visit when in Seattle.
Ive gone to 2nd Ave for years. Always a good place to shop for collectors looking for something new or old. I recently found one of my favorites there that I havent found anywhere else. Its one of the only reasons I come to downtown. Make sure you have money for an extra impulse buy!
The best place.
Portland institution that always carries great punk, hip hop, reggae, world, folk and rock records
Its the most... authentic record store experience you could hope for. That is to say, they know more about music than interior design. But they DO know music so yknow, it works. They have a fairly large inventory and the staff are nice.
Best record store in Portland
Fantastic record shop in the heart of downtown Portland. Huge selection of vinyl, spanning a wide range of genres and styles. I found everything from mainstream pop to classic rock to underground hip-hop to classical to the most obscure and cvlt metal.Shelves are well organized, and easy to navigate. Staff is friendly and approachable, able to answer just about any questions you have, at least with regards to vinyl!
Decent selection, but they never open on time. Its not cute. This is at least the eighth time this has happened in the last six months. Wouldn’t bother stopping by before noon. I guess it’s too difficult to open a record store at 11? Clocks are hard
This place rocks! Grate music selection for metal heads and other genres of music. They have a little bit of everything but more metal/rock and punk than anything. loved the T-shirts and jackets they had, really cool. The staff are super friendly, helpful and very knowledgeable. A place worth going to!!
Cool record store. Good jams playing. A very wide selection. Also a bunch of band shirts that are all strung around. It gives you that garage band feel if you know what I mean. Husband was very excited to come into this store.
Ive shopped here over 20 years- incredible eclectic selection of punk, metal, funk, indie & beyond. Best t-shirt selection in Portland. The most friendly staff. I always find something to buy here- never a dull visit.
Have never left empty handed!
Always a good experience! Good to see it still open!
Huge selection of vinyl and t-shirts.
Nice store with excellent punk & metal selection. They carry a wide variety of genres, new releases, and lots of band tees! Decent prices. Customer service has been mostly positive, sometimes a few awkward interactions with the staff. The store I frequent most in Portland.
Amazing variety of music, vinyl, and band t-shirts. I always make a point of visiting this place when I’m in the neighborhood.
Best record store in the world
Second Ave Records is a down to Earth record store. If you want punk rock or heavy metal no other place is a real option. I have been going there for years and never leave empty handed. If youve never been there check it out.
Love... This... Place!!! Been coming here for years, rock on
Great little record shop in the heart of downtown not too far from the red/blue Max lines. You can also snag CDs, patches, buttons, and shirts for reasonable prices. These guys will even special order albums. Definitely worth a stop.
Superb Record store. They are very polite and will just let you browse all you want, but will gladly help you find a CD or record you are looking for. Great selection, convenient location (probably no parking tho, I always walk there) and they even have some rare and desirable artists. Good selection of Funk, Rock Reggae, Soul, Psych, Punk, very diverse.
Lots of good records here. They seem to have most of their focus on rock, metal, and blues but theres records of every genre. Definitely a cool place worth checking out
A must go institution of the original Portland music scene, first walked in as a young teen and still want to go back 🤘🤘
This store has a great selection, with - as others have mentioned - the best metal selection in town. They seem to get a lot of great rare trade-ins. So why the two star review? Because I have twice shown up at about fifteen minutes after their posted opening time and found the store closed. They need to hire a more responsible opening crew or change their times if they cant meet their promise to the public. Its a huge waste of time to drive downtown and then turn around and go home.
Cool dudes are at this place. nice selection, as well. Cool atmosphere and decent prices ye ye
Store was advertised as having a great hip hop and metal selection, not only did they have that, they had a great selection for any genre that is on vinyl. Prices for new vinyl were some of the best I have seen while record shopping in many cities. Store has a little bit of everything to offer for the casual to hardcore music fan. Absolutely worth a visit if you are in Portland.
Amazing store with an outstanding selection.
I go here all the time to buy shirts and I love the employees and the loud music they play. Its my favorite store
This place is great! Find everything from classics to the obscure. They also have a great selection of band t-shirts
Its a pretty cool store, with a broad selection of clothing a records. They lean towards the punk/metal scene which is cool.
Very cool experience. Helpful staff, great selection. Cool stuff. I’m definitely going to visit again
Awesome selection of underground metal and punk. They have more shirts than you will ever need too. Had an overall good experience but the one employee that helped me seemed very disinterested. You have to ask for metal CDs and I wanted to dig through it all, but the employee acted as if I was inconveniencing him by asking him to pull stuff out. Im not sure if he was having a bad day but it was for sure off putting.
Mad charming record shop thats packed to the gills with vinyl and shirts, but not a spot is wasted. Everything in this place is dope, and the staff is so knowledgeable and helpful. Place Im happy to support.
The place focuses on vinyl records, but the majority of the records they have are only extremely overpriced new ones, that range from $18 to $32. Which is ridiculous. If the rent is too high, then move out to Gresham. Their selection isnt that great to begin with. The entire staff acts bitter and grouchy. Dont waste your time and go to smaller places like Varieties. They have way cheaper vinyl records, and the staff is extremely friendly. Screw this place.
Nice place! Staff seemed a little disinterested, but the selection and price points were great.
Great
OK, so Im a die hard metal fan and this place is the place to go for metal records. Never quite seen a selection quite like this at any other record store in town. Fair pricing comparable to online stores make this a good place to stop in if Im ever out and about. Amazing selection of band shirts and used cassette tapes make this place a blast from the early days of music distribution.
Has a whole lot of records in every genre but couldnt find any of the more popular bands/singers. Not even a slot for Bob Seger or Billy Joel was disappointing and most of the records I looked at were new not vintage.
I ALWAYS have a pleasant time when I go to 2nd Ave. The music, t-shirt, sticker, button selections are vast and EVERY employee is 100% friendly, knowledgeable & welcoming 100% of the time. They are like the Powells Books of music, in my opinion; why on Earth would one go anywhere else?Three 👍, five ⭐ and six-hundred sixty-six 🤘 up. . . WAY up!
Love this place. Stop here every time I come to Portland
This is an old school record store with great selection and an amazing collection of albums and band t-shirts.
Unique place to find cds or records both new and used.
