Joel is super warm and friendly! He listened well, enabling him to empathize with our mindset and provide the proper guidance. Numerous times he answered questions before I even asked. I felt no pressure and like we were all just looking for the right solution. On my return visit, to pickup my new bike that they customized and my old bike that they tuned up, I met Abe. He brought similar energy to the table and spent his valuable time sharing insight and experience on bike riding in general but especially in the context of Richmond. It was priceless information and we really appreciated it.As a new resident, this is definitely my go to shop now.
I took my 30 year old Trek mountain bike into ReCycles. The guys performed a complete tuneup and outfitted the bike with new tires, gear ratios, and handlebars to create a touring bike for me. I had originally talk to Joel about trading the bike in for a different bike and he strongly encouraged me to hold onto what I had. That’s one thing I love about the guys at the shop, they don’t try to oversell you. Here’s a couple of photos of the bike from a four day tour, it’s the perfect touring bike, sturdy yet comfortable. I highly recommend this shop.
Very friendly, knowledgeable staff. They will sell you a bike that fits YOU, rather than trying to upsell you something you dont need. The staff accomadated my needs very well. They found bikes within my price range and needs and let me test ride several. They ensured that the bikes fit me before riding and they gave me the pros and cons of each option. When I found one that I liked, I mentioned that I preferred a different kind of handlebar, so they offered to swap the handlebars for the style I preferred. I got a great, custom road bike for $625. (Their prices range from $500-$800).Great experience. Would recommend.
Dropped my bike off today was told will check out and give me a call on needed repairs. Service manager friendlyUp date:Got an education today. Dont let them tell you that cant teach a ole dog new tricks😊. After having my bike serviced at this shop, took home and couldnt get it to shift gears. returned this morning... Told Abe my problem and he checked it out for me. Come to find out reason was not shifting was due to that I had no clue as to what I was doing 😂🤔😂. Got a lesson in Shifting 101 properly. Abe was real professional and detailed on this and really helped me understand a lot. He went back over my bike and test rode it. I got home and test rode my self with no issues. Highly recommend this shop for any repair needs and especially if need updated shifting training 😂😂😂. Thanks again Abe and Richmond Re-Cycles for your education, training and patience. 👍😊👍. You guys have a new lifetime customer.
Best bike shop in Richmond, every employee is super helpful and friendly. Prices for refurbished bikes is extremely fair. It’s right by my house so the one or two times I’ve biked by and needed tweaks, they are more than happy to help me and tweak my bike for free!
Brought my POS bike from Facebook market and got some helpful advice! Will def come back to invest in a real bike.
This place rules. Abe graciously played bike matchmaker for my husband and I. Were both tall and often have a hard time finding bikes that fit us comfortably. He invited us to try a few different models, but the first two he pulled were absolutely perfect. The staff clearly takes pride in their work and finds joy in finding the right fit for each customer. I love that they reuse parts to build unique bikes. We plan to return for yearly tune-ups and any future bike needs.
Exceptional, friendly service. Fulfilled all of my needs and got to walk out with a bike that will last me a long time.
Haven’t purchased a bike yet, but excited to save some money to purchase one. It’s very obvious after talking to Leo that they are knowledgable and do quality work.I actually went in to just use their pump to pump up my basketball. Service was extremely friendly and I love what they’re doing.
I love this shop for my bike repairs. Always super honest and fair and has been the only place I have taken my bikes! 100% recommend!
I messed up my scheduling time and showed up when I shouldn’t have on accident. Instead of turning me away the gentlemen there still helped me out as much as he could. Thank you!
Very nice and skilled mechanics
Great shop. Excellent technicians. I appreciate their Sunday hours. They were able to knock out my tube and minor tuning issue quickly so I could return home on the Cap Trail worry and noise free.
Unique little bike shop that takes time with its customers and talks with them. New and used bike selection, good prices.
I’ve never had a bad experience here. Prices are fair, excellent customer service, and I always feel like I get great work done on my bike. This is my go-to spot for maintenance and bike needs, and I highly recommend checking them out!
They did a good job. I got a flat tire near them and they quickly replaced it for me to continue riding. Just time for a quick app across the street.
Last month I bought a good, refurbed Backwoods mountain bike for my husband. Not only was the service at Recycles spot on (courteous, knowledgeable), but my husband loves the bike and will enjoy it for years to come. Thanks so much.
Just picked up my bike from a tune-up and a small fix and the experience was awesome. From the online appointments, to the clear explanation of the issues and repair details, to the way they communicated and handled their social distancing/safety protocols – I knew I was in capable hands. This will be my go-to shop going forward.
I was shopping for a pair of used cycling shoes. Im new to cycling and wasnt quite sure about sizing. I also didnt want to spend a fortune on clipless shoes. I called the gentlemen at ReCycles to see if they had anything for me.I was able to get a practically brand new pair of shoes for a great price, they fit perfectly. The guys in the shop are super duper friendly, knowledgeable and have very reasonable prices. I highly recommend working with them for all your cycling needs.
I was assisted by Abe, a very nice, very cordial employee, who was able to help me get outfitted with what I think is probably the perfect bike for me. Im in love with my new Fuji bike and really appreciated the knowledgeable, hands on help and approach. Ive always thought very highly of Recycles as a business and this experience just solidified my opinion. Thanks, guys!
Amazing service. My bike rides great and when there was a mechanical problem with it (that was probably caused by my incompetence) they took care of the repair for free. They love the bikes and want you to have a good experience. Could not recommend them more.
This place is the best. Overhauled my old road bike - looked brand new when done. Fair prices. Book in advance, they are backed up with clients for a reason.
The guys at ReCycles are the best in town. Super cool and very thorough at explaining what needs to be done with no surprises. They do excellent work!
Great shop. Great people.
Wonderful bike shop. I went with my daughter to pick up the bikes. She took 2 vintage bikes there to have them serviced since they had been sitting in my basement for years. She needed them to be ready in less than 2 weeks because her husband had gotten a job in California. They did a fantastic job in the short time they had. I would highly recommend these guys. They love what they do and take great care to do a good job.
Fast, friendly, covid safe. A+ Thanks
I LOVE THIS SHOP! they never talk down to you, always offer used parts if possible and have helped me out with maintenance in a time crunch. theyre super friendly and always explain anything Im interested in trying to understand.
Super knowledgeable and friendly, great bikes at a good price. Highly recommend. They also did a few free maintenance repairs on it 6 months later. Always friendly and helpful.
Went to get my inner tube replaced & was helped by Joel. He was informative, speedy, & kind! Kudos, Joel! I appreciate the help!
I drove across town to use this shop because of the great reviews that had been posted. I was not disappointed. The staff completed a major tune-up on my bike including new tires and a new cassette. They completed it five days ahead of when it was scheduled to be done. I took a 15-mile test drive this afternoon and my bike is like new again! Thank you!
This is a somewhat small but very charming shop. It was recommended to me by by name, and I can see why. Joel gave me some really good advice, and happened to have a helmet in my size that he threw in with my purchase of a bike lock. Im definitely going to be a repeat customer and I cant recommend it enough.
Recycles is the best budget bike repair deal in town! Joel is super helpful and friendly. Twice Ive given him an old frame and bag of parts and both times he turned out a rad one-of-a-kind bike. They also have a nice selection of used bikes for sale. Check it out!
I love these guys, always happy to help, fair prices, caring service, good parts, and most importantly honest businessmen. I always feel welcomed and enjoy coming here. My favorite illustration of this is the fact that I was convinced once not to spend money on hydraulic brakes because theyd have been completely unnecessary. Evan and Nathans goal is so clearly to get you riding no matter what with the best possible quality and price.
I took my old bike in for repairs. The owner was up front about the fact that the repairs would be costly and that the bike itself was not worth the money.I appreciated his honesty.
I stopped at Richmond Recycles to get my son’s bike serviced the day we dropped him to school at UR. They couldn’t get it in the same day HOWEVER, the owner or a tech I don’t know which, did a quick touch up to make the bike campus rideable. He tightened the hub, tweaked the brakes in a matter of minutes. Just enough. Being 9 hours away it would have been tough to get it done and to campus easily. So I hope that I can drive business to this shop to help them as they helped me. Kind, professional, courteous. Thank you three times, you made my life easier.
Excellent customer service and very helpful staff
There arent enough words to say how thankful I am that we have this shop in Richmond. Ive taken my bike there several times to have minor things fixed, and they always were quick, knowledgeable and friendly. And the prices were always reasonable. Recently I was ran over by a car and my bike was decently smashed up. Anyone that knows me, knows that bike is my ABSOLUTE world. I was very emotional when I dropped it off, not knowing if it could be fixed or not. Joel was AMAZING. He was very patient with me and did not make any false promises. He told me what would need to be done, and quoted the price before starting the work. It did not take very long at all.I picked up my bike today, and it is beautiful. I was yet again very emotional, and he was super patient. The love I have for this bike and what it means to me is something I can never really describe. I am so grateful to Joel for everything he has done through this whole process. And for giving me a piece of myself back. I will continue to send everyone I know to their shop. Thank you so much!!
My wheels were stolen so some friends gave me some spare parts in hopes to frankenstein or trade pieces to make Ole Blue ride again. I brought the skeleton to Recycles and ride again she did (& for a really fair price. ) PLUS the guy noticed my handlebars were adjusted weird (I just thought it was the norm) which is something no other mechanic had pointed out to me. Kind, honest people!
Great business model. Super friendly and knowledgable staff. Solid mechanics.
These guys are the best. I come here anytime I need anything tuned up, or quality parts for cheap. Joel even helped me load my bikes in my truck. Great people and service
Great service from honest people who dont over charge or scam. They all genuinely seem to care about the bikes they fix and their clients happiness.
I took my bike here with a flat and a bike lock with a lost key. It was early on Sunday morning, spoke with the owner and he fixed everything 10 minutes and I spent $30. Best place in Richmond!
Very affordable and reliable guys. Definitely recommend! Theres no your bikes not good enough pretentiousness. They just make it work. Great consignors too.
Great shop, no pressure to buy knowledgeable staff, didnt have what I was looking for but steered me in the right direction... well worth the visit!
Really helpful and friendly guys in the shop when I went in for my first bike. They let me try as many as I wanted and were super patient!
Joel has an immaculate shop and a niche shop. Great for commuters and like minded enthusiasts!
No matter the cost of your bike or your experience riding they will treat you with equal respect. Once i started going here i had no reason to look anywhere else. Plus Ive never had the feeling somebody was trying to sell me something i didnt need. If anything you might have to convince him because he tries to keep money in your pocket and keep you riding!!
Guy working in the shop just now was very friendly and knowlegeable. I took in two bikes to see if he could get them working. One he couldnt, and offered to take to the junk yard for me, and the other he did a quick checkup on and had me in and out in 5 minutes.Highly reccomend going to this hole in the wall shop if you need a fix on a bike. I will be going back with any future work I need done.
Always a great time!
I went in with an ancient bike, an old 70s french road bike built by my dad which has seen better days. Im not a bike officianado, but I can appreciate vintage stuff. I had to get it shifting again after it sat for years, adjusted brakes, lube and re-grease everything, etc. They got it working, for a great price, but I guess they didnt think to mention they replaced the original shifters with plastic and metal new made in china ones. They didnt seem to notice that when riding the bike the brakes squeal all the time, every time. And they didnt have the impossible to find replacement parts for the infamous french crank the bike had and replaced it. And for everything I paid to replace, I didnt get the old, original, parts back. So if you go there, be sure to specify you want to keep any non-wear parts they arbitrarily replace. Otherwise for basic maintenance and such, they seem like nice guys, and my experience was about 2+ years ago from the date of this review.
I use these guys for all things bikes. I recommend them 100%
Very friendly and honest people who work there. The prices are always within budget.
Check them out. Spare parts, often very helpful.
So,I brought my 90s HARO impulse in to get a new fork.I wanted the bike to be less aggressive and felt a fork with more rake would make it so I could cruise on it hands free...keep in mind, this is a top shelf 90s style mountain bike.It has aggressive racing geometry, STX components, and weighs in at a hefty 18 lbs...:)Lets just say its a rigged rear bike that halls...Shes a nice bike and Im proud to know her...Joel, the main tech at Re-Cycles, was hesitant at modifying this bike and advised me not to change the shock out since it would ruin the package. After some deliberation, and a week or two of rainy days, I purchased a bike from them that I couldnt be happier with. Its an old Raleigh road bike with a single front gear and 5 in the back. minimalist setup, light weight, chromoly thing, with beautiful weld joints and tight style. It is a joy to ride.I couldnt be happier.I wanted a street ride that my old ass, broken armed last year, bad shouldered self could run around on and they hooked me up totally. All at a fair price and through solid advice.Best bike shop in Richmond, hands down.
What a great shop! I have only had positive experiences any time I have been in. I certainly recommend Re-cycles, Joel Rules!
