A fun place for kids of all ages and adults with hobbies. A wide selection of different hobbies and a strong focus on R/C vehicles of all types. An excellent selection of models of all kinds. Very cool Mini Z track in the back with both oval and road configurations. A drift track as well which I believe is opening soon, if not already open.

This place encouraged a starter mini aero for a $100. The manager and instruction manual suggested I “throw it to start”. I did so and it voided the return policy. The plane had a bent rudder when purchased. The manager claimed he could fly it, just not today. Coincidentally, other online reviews detail the same bent rudder, sending the plane into a hard right, hitting the ground. His only advice was flying lessons for my son. Called the manufacturer, they are just as pitiful to deal with, pledging to “make my son an avid RC flyer” but nay on any refund. He also got smart and disconnected the chat. I’d avoid anything from here because you are essentially stuck with no recourse.

The staff is extremely helpful and patience. Since I am rookie with RC world. The manager Charles is a straight shooter. I really like that he will tell you what is wrong and where you went wrong. Cant ask for better service. Keep up the good work.

Seemed to fix one off problem so redoing my rating. This location is big, clean, well lit store. Really good inventory for plastic kits and the rc section looked huge and enough other hobby stuff to appeal to everyone. I build models and they had the latest kits and supplies. Decent prices..So I recommend the place and since hobby shops are dying out, be sure to go there if you are in the area and give them your business.

If I could I would give them a 100% rating for family fun. This place is awesome, they have games, puzzles, toys for little ones, models, planes, trains, and automobiles, a great selection of Radio Control, MiniZ and drift tracks on site. This is A MUST VISIT!

Employees are extremely rude as if they do not have time for thier customers even those who are spending several hundreds of dollars. Employees mislead you into thinking they are doing work and replacing parts when in fact they just charge you for your parts you already own. Several of the employees are just flat out liars

Got my first hobby grade RC 4x4 truck there. I am happy with the store and still shop there when I need something. Staff is generally pretty good, but try to talk to the owner if you have any questions or issues.The young guys working there are helpful, but they are still learning customer service skills and have a hard time aligning their service to your level of need. They also tend to answer questions even if they do not know the correct answer.

I like this store, makes you feel like a kid again. The store is nice and organized but I have a issue with the repair shop. They are sloppy with handling the repairs of the r/cs and tools are scattered everywhere. I would have gave this hobby shop 5 star if it wasnt for the repair shop. I advise this store to do there repairs behind close curtains.

OBest hobby/model enthusiast store in the Richmond area. They have a great selection of plastic model kits, paints, RC vehicles, figures, toys/games, etc. plus new stock is ALWAYS coming in. Whether you need airbrushing supplies, markers or styrene/brass/balsa building materials for your own custom dioramas, they probably have what you need and tons more. Also, the staff is super friendly and helpful. They know what theyre talking about but MAKE SURE you call ahead if youre trying to get an RC vehicle worked on. The service desk is usually booked up for service to walk-ins.

Has a great selection of puzzles and remote control vehicle kits and parts. Enjoyed our visit very much. We will visit again soon.

Customer service is not the greatest. I was basically told I didnt know what I was doing. I have worked on rc cars since I was a kid. Im also a mechanic i kinda know how to fix things like this.

I came in to this store last week just to looked around for the RCS cars and trucks Zach is the one who helped me everytime I have a question about the RCS. Came back last weekend and bought my RC then couple days later i came back again to get my RC fixed after hitting a rock 🪨 Charles came and inspected my RC and fixed it. Charles is the MAN on this to look for if you need something done to your RC. Thank you so much for your big helped sir.

Worse experience ever. Buying my first RC car. we spent over $ 1400 (3 different cars) and one of the cars was defective. I return the next day to change it. nobody cares about your problem only your money. no manager no one responsible in this store. I recommend not spending your money here. we try to help local businesses but with this kind of attitude it is impossible, it is better to continue making Jeff Bezos richer.Update01/30/2021I havent received anything from hobbytown. Deceptive advertising brought me here to the review page. I bought a Granite 4x4 RC truck that advertised 30mph on the box in big bright letters. I bought the truck without noticing the tiny fine print below the eye catching “30mph”.Only after I looked it up online to show a coworker what I had bought did I learn that this truck will not go 30mph without having to buy additional upgrade parts. When I got home I took a second look at the box and sure enough, the tiny fine print says optional gears are required to achieve the speed advertised.I immediately returned the product out of sheer disgust with the manufacturer . However, when I told the tall,, portly salesman the reason for returning the item he said that all of the brands they sell do that. I’m not sure that is true but he was not polite and came across as being offended by my dissatisfaction with the product. I paid for the product with my debit card which was decucted from my bank account immediately but they wouldn’t refund cash or return the money to my account right away. So now I’m out $320 two days before Christmas and I have to wait however many days it takes via credit card return. That is their return policy, so always be sure to read the fine print on the products and remember there are no cash refunds over $100 . Also be aware that debit card purchased returns will only be processed as if you used a credit card.

Buyer beware!!!! Test all products before u buy!!! They will not honer a exchange if your product is missing a part!!!! Then youre just stuck as I am. I bought an RC four-wheel-drive truck only three wheel spin, found that out after 2 minutes in the driveway and it was pulling right no missing parts in the box or in my driveway, no off-road or ramps in the equation!!! So therefore they should exchange this vehicle for another one or repair it they wont do neither so now I have an RC that doesnt work properly after only having two minutes of run time if that!!!! So please test all products before you buy!!!!Correction!! They will repair with in 30 days but unfortunately the part I needs on back order so they have no idea when theyll have it so meanwhile Im supposed to set back and wait and be happy with my purchase!!! Y not just get one of the 8 other ones on the shelve collecting dust and take the part and fix mine and hold theres untill part comes in!!! Why inconvenience the consumer that bought for a situation that is happening NOW!!! Oh well!!!

These guys are great! The last two times I went there to ask questions and potentially make purchases, depending on what they said. They told me to save my money and buy a Frsky reciever offline when they could have sold me something I didnt need. Honesty is much appreciated. They won me over big time. Because of them showing me this respect and honesty I will be sure to make my purchases there when possible even if I can save a few bucks on the internet. After I finish this drone im starting a truck so ill be back!

My 73 year old father was not allowed in the store yesterday. He has health problems and cannot wear a facemask. Even the governor has said that people with health problems and that cannot wear a mask, are exempt. If a business wants to refuse customers, that is their right. However customers have the right to never return and to tell every other potiental customer about their negative experience. After he left, he called his train club that has a large membership and many will not shop there either now. Good luck with your store

Great place if you do rc cars, but I am a modeler and sometimes visit on Sundays for the group modeling meeting/working on your models together, dont bother it use to be fun but now we are shoved into a tiny corner of the room. They are having less and less model tools, parts and kits. Definitely time to find a new hobby store/ hobby town.

Found some awesome finds since I havent been in a while. Picked up two resin kits. Cant wait to put them together.

The only reason I gave it 3 stars is because of the gentleman working the front register. I went here to purchase my first high end rc car. Being that there are so many options, naturally I had questions on which direction was the best way to go for what I was looking for. Well unfortunately the guy working the back counter really seemed like he could care less. Getting answers out of him was like pulling teeth. Very short answered and came across as if I was wasting his time. Then when I make my decision on which car to be, he doesnt give me all the options on which charger to purchase for my battery. He automatically gives me the most expensive one. If it was6for a friend being with me, Id have never known. Definitely trying a different location next time. If I get the same result at the Broad Street store then Ill gladly take my business elsewhere.

This place is full of amazing things! Now with the demise of RadioShack, I have been able to find some electronic components here. Their products cover a pretty wide variety of hobbies, the staff has always been incredibly friendly, and the prices are competitive to what you might find online. Im glad places like this to exist!

I was greeted immediately upon entering the store by a cheerful young man with a beaming smile. He welcomed me and asked if there was anything he could help me find. That was such a nice change from the normal Richmond employee that looks away or grumbles. The store was jam packed with all kinds of amazing crafts such as models, trains, and miniatures, etc. It was a bit overwhelming. I had actually been searching for Radio Shack and this was the address given. Lo and behold, it was within the store as a department. I needed a fuse for a voltmeter and wasnt willing to wait for shipping plus I prefer to shop local. The associate brought me over to another associate that handled that department and he hunted down the fuse i needed. It was a pleasure to shop there and i would go again. I grew up doing models and i was awestruck by their selection. This small place is a hobbyists dream come true.

A selection of basic drones with a much more in depth selection of R/C cars, hobby products and materials available. I lost my drone today and found comfort talking about the experience with the staff and customers in the store! I walked out feeling better about my chances and with a new drone of course!

There are a TON of cool model cars, planes, ships/boats and RC cars, planes, boats and other vehicles here! The staff are knowledgable and helpful. They also have a good selection of puzzles and board games. Fun to just browse around inside.

Hobby shops are rare these days, and this one has a fine selection of models and toys, including rather rare kits that I remember building in my youth (e.g. 2001 Space Odyssey Moon Bus). Just make sure you keep your receipts; I wanted to return an expensive train engine in original packaging, but the manager couldnt help without the paper receipt.

Called all over looking for a particular item, was out of stock everywhere else but Hobbytown had it at there Broad Street location. Store manager then held the item until I could get to them. Then as a final helpful gesture the manager then had the associate sign me up for their rewards program that I might receive a further discount on my purchase. Store was well lit, well stocked a d the staff was more than helpful. I would highly recommend this business to anyone for their hobby needs or wants and I will make the drive in the future to patronize this business.

We went in to buy our son his first RC car, and they did a good job helping to explain the differences between the models and the capabilities. They also were very good with helping us get repair parts and understand how to fix it (because they can break). I am glad we did not order one online without any support!

Great store, I have been in there several times. Good products and lots of inventory. But the manager C.B. (I think thats his name) is really what makes the store great. He must work 80 hours a week because he is always in there and I have seen that guy take time to help kids and pros with the same attention. He has really turned that place around!

They didnt have what I was looking for not did they try to accommodate me but this store is a Throwback Thursday and a flashback Friday all in one. This place is kinda cool. Toys from every generation on here. Service is not great but the store is cool.

Ive been to all 3 Hobby Towns in this area. Dang these expensive hobbies. While all of the stores have given me good experiences this one has the best vibes. Its a good place to lay eyes on a purchase where online shopping just cant deliver. All the prices are competitive so you wont do better on Amazon. I guess if your willing to wait for the slow boat you can do better for price but, likely to be an off brand product. It lowers my age by decades whenever I enter these big (and small) kid stores. Hope this is one brick and mortar store that lasts.

Just started building Gundam model kits. Couldnt really find where to buy them other then Barnes and Nobel or online. Found HOBBY TOWN look at there stuff on line and was sold before going to the store, once in the store they had alot more stuff then I thought. I will be going back there for stuff hobby town is now my new favorite store.

I completely agree with Scott Mallory. Terrible customer experience here. I bought a $300 Lionel Train set, and immediately took it home to set it up around the Christmas tree. Directly out of the box, the whistle did not work on one of the cars. I took the car in question back to Hobby Town and they told me to contact the manufacturer. Lionel (the manufacturer) said to take it back to the store and ask for a direct exchange. Hobby Town in turn, said that exchanges were against their policy!!! All I wanted was a working set!! Now I have to cover shipping to Lionel and wait for 2 weeks before I can set it up again. This is by far the worst experience I have ever had as a customer. My advice would be to buy from Amazon, where prices are cheaper, and returns/exchanges are POSSIBLE!! DO NOT BUY FROM THIS STORE!!

I very much enjoy every visit to this store, Preston, Steve and Robert are always extremely helpful and friendly. They are always willing to answer any questions I have and if they dont know they quickly find out what I need. This location is further from me than the broad street store but well worth the extra drive.
