I havent been to a good Mexican dine in restaurant for many years in this area, the food at Maya Cocina Mexicana was very fresh, well seasoned, good portions and service outstanding. The waiters were friendly, they were efficient, super clean restaurant, overall I got out of there with a really good taste in my mouth. Fresh guacamole and roasted tomato salsa, its a must try.
One of the best dining experiences I have ever had. The food is fresh, authentic and delicious. Food is properly seasoned and simply delightful. Typical Mexican restaurant salsa is watery and bland, the salsa here was so fresh, flavorful and spicy. We tried more than we should have eaten, and everything was on point. The service was great and our server did a fantastic job, and was the only server! I give them a 9/10 as they are new and finding their groove, but I cant wait to come back and try some other tacos. So glad to have you close by and happy we decided to stop in and give this place a try. Loved it!
We had an awesome ladies night out last weekend. Delicious food. Beautiful ambiance. Awesome service.Great restaurant for a date night or a business dinner but even for a casual get together with friends. We’ll be back for sure.
Beautifully decorated designed interior and it feels warm. The music was perfect. The bar is very pretty with the lights and it turns out some delicious drinks too. The food was really awesome. Tacos were really good and alambre too! Friendly service as expected in Mexico. Definitely returning. Bravo 👏 well done.
Fantastic! They got us in without a reservation on Valentine’s Day. That was amazing itself but then the food was amazing. Check the pics, it tasted as good as it looked. The margarita was a bit strong for me but some would like that. The restaurant was very clean as well. I saw two employees cleaning and sanitizing one area after it was used. I will definitely be returning.
Just tried this new place. A+ interior very friendly with light mexican music in the background. Tried two different margaritas, both were good. Guacamole was excellent, not too much cilantro. I had shrimp tacos - a little on the spicy side but good. Husband had tamales - those you order separate so he had one of each and all were yummy. Well be back!! 😋
Wonderful curbside pickup experience and excellent food! Food was packaged thoughtfully (no spills) and still hot once we arrived home. Even the cocktails held up well. Highly recommend the shrimp tacos, guacamole, and tamales. So happy to have an independent, delicious Mexican restaurant in Livonia. Will visit again soon!
High end Mexican food finally!!, great dishes, amazing soft Mexican music, great Tamarindo Margarita, and service is always outstanding. Juan Pablo is the best! Desserts still could be better, though.
WOW this restaurant really provided an unexpected and super delightful dining experience! The food is flavorful (not too heavy) and on point. The drinks were incredible - we had the silver and golden margarita and they were both strong and not too sweet, just like we like them. The service is attentive, super professional and friendly. Lastly, the restaurant is decorated super cute and everything is extraordinarily clean. Overall a high end dining experience right around the corner! So glad we discovered this place tonight ❤️! Will definitely be back!
Tim, Alex, Mariana and the entire crew are very welcoming and the food is incredible! My favs are the Asada Tacos, Asada Quesadillas, and my wife love the Chicken Alhambra! Great Margaritas too. Call ahead because word is out! Maya is the hottest spot for authentic Mexican food in Livonia. On second thought just head over to Taco Bell lol
Definitely not worth the long wait or how expensive the menu is. I ordered the pineapple pork tacos and they were probably the worst pork taco Ive ever had with one tidbit of pineapple per taco that was served on the side (3 tidbits total). You can go a bit further out to get much better Mexican food for the price (to Detroit or Ann Arbor) and you wont have to wait an hour and a half for a table for two. By the time you drive further out then eat and come back, youll be just seated at Mayas!Even without the wait, the food quality wasnt good enough for me to ever want to go back! I tried some of my boyfriends tacos and Im honestly surprised this place is reviewed so highly considering the bland food we were served!
We had an incredible experience at this restaurant. As soon as you walk in, you are greeted with an elegant, understated space. The lighting is cozy, the music is solid, and the greeter was professional and kind. We sat down at our table and the waitress, Maricela, came by and introduced herself very soon after, dropping off menus. She was a gem and a huge reason we had such a great experience. The other reason, of course, being the absolutely delicious food. Shrimp tacos, steak quesadilla, esquites, tamales, everything we had was perfectly crafted and delectable. It is some of the best Mexican food I have ever had and puts all of the area restaurants (including a few in Mexicantown) to shame. Ive attached some pictures, which I rarely do, just to show off what an amazing restaurant this is. The only con, and its really just more of a side effect of having such high quality food, is that the prices are a little high. Especially when considering what we usually pay for Mexican food outside of Barrio in Plymouth, which is not even 1/10 the quality. Suffice to say, every penny is worth it and please come eat here. You wont regret it.
Probably the best Mexican restaurant in Michigan, as a Mexican I can tell that combines quality, authenticity, service and cleanliness. Important highlight, if you have the mindset that Mexican food must be cheap don’t go to this restaurant. If you enjoy authentic food definitely go to Maya, you won’t be disappointed.
Have wanted to check this place out for quite some time now. Most Mexican restaurants are very family friendly and since we had never been or heard anything about the place before going, we brought along our two young kids. Guess I should’ve read reviews from the other people with children (whoops). The owner (or manager? I’m unsure) made sure to snatch the flowers in a vase off of our table and tell us to not allow our daughter “to play with the chain decor hanging from the ceiling” before we had even taken our seats. Totally rubbed me the wrong way. I get some places are not kid friendly but this being a newer place, we honestly had no idea what to expect. I will say the food was authentic and good and our margaritas were tasty. Service was okay. Its a little on the pricier side which is whatever. Would’ve possibly come back just my husband and I for a date night because the place does have a cool atmosphere but this guys actions were just really off putting- especially after we paid a good amount for just us 2 and the little ones literally didn’t end up making a peep the entire time. Also, there were only 2 other tables in the whole place so don’t get why you would want to make any paying customers feel out of place or on edge which is exactly how he made us feel. Don’t think we’ll be back but if you check it out, make sure to leave the kids at home.
Tonight was our first time there. The restaurant was clean, the wait staff was friendly, and the food was fresh and delicious! They had an appetizer that was Mexican Street corn off the cob with chorizo that was the best thing wed ever tasted. We will definitely be going there again.
Went in a Saturday near 4:30pmNice ambiance and clean.Quality ingredients. Guacamole was super basic (avocado lime juice, barely any salt), no cilantro, red onion, garlic, tomato, jalapenos, bland for $10.Had to add in their salsa to make guac have flavor.Really good salsa. Not enough vegetarian/vegan options.Server was kind but young and inexperienced, she didnt manage her time well, was missing for long periods, and we hadnt even ordered yet.
This place will be incredibly successful. They checked all the right boxes, including happy sincere staff. The owner actually called us to say he had a table opening up in five minutes and he’d hold it for us. Authentic Latino wait staff and all working as a team. Good portions and very fresh!!This is what happens when a family is committed to their business enterprise. Everybody works there and they’re all rowing in the right direction.
The food was amazing, staff attentive and friendly, drinks unique and well done, and the atmosphere was modern and cozy. My friend and I stumbled upon this gem and loved everything we ordered! Great addition to Livonias restaurant scene. FYI, the food (and even some drinks) are spicy! ❤️
Exceptional service and meals. Authentic and perfect in every way. Our new favorite place. You won’t be disappointed!!
The menu looks good with some unique dishes. We wanted a basic margarita with no other alcohol than tequila. They handed this list of all these fancy margaritas but would not make us a basic one. The owner said that he was sorry there were no margaritas in our price range, which was insulting as we are gourmet cooks and fine diners. The price is not the issue as we do not like liquors in our margaritas. I can make better guacamole than what they had.
I came for the first time on Sunday with some friends who recommended it. The food is absolutely incredible! Everything is so fresh. Best salsa around! The servers were extremely friendly. All of the drinks were so unique and so good. Everything was amazing and I can’t wait to return.
Overall the food was pretty good. Id say it is on-par with the quality you would get at Gran Castor. The biggest knock on the place is not being able to mix and match the types of tacos you get. That is pretty disappointing. Tacos come as plates of 3. It would be nice to be able to pick three different flavors on a plate. Also, the variety on offer is a little lacking but its not bad. Most of the dishes seem to be the same ingredients with a different meat or tweak on a sauce. Finally, its a bit expensive for what you get, but also not terrible. I paid $28 (excluding tax) for a cup of salsa and chips, a glass of Sprite, and three mahi-mahi tacos. No rice, beans, or any other sides.
EAT HERE. Do not skip out!I’m no stranger to Mexican food. I love me a good authentic taqueria with “by the each” tacos. Mexican food is my absolute favorite, and I am very picky when it comes to eating at new restaurants. Let me tell you something, Maya Cocina Mexicana has the best al pastor taco I’ve ever eaten. Hands down. They have the best tacos in general I’ve ever eaten. The meat is so tender it melts in your mouth. The salt and seasoning compliments the meat, and the simple cilantro and onion toppings round out the whole taco. Ignore the prices. That’s not what it’s about. The value you get is uncompromising. Also, the chips and salsa appetizer is incredible. The salsa is absolutely divine and packed with so much flavor with just the right amount of heat. Eat here and enjoy EVERYTHING!
Went for dinner and drinks, everything was excellent! The service and atmosphere were top notch. We will be back! Highly recommend!
I was lucky enough to try out this fantastic restaurant while I was visiting Detroit with my husband. The experience was one of the best I have ever had! The food is super delicious, authentic, fresh and the service is amazing! I have been treated like a family member and it made me feel very good. The owner of the restaurant makes sure everything and everyone is happy. We loved the decoration and every details about this place! You can’t miss this restaurant out.The menu is very well composed it’s literally hard to choose! Thanks 🙏🏻 Hope to try it again!
Upscale Mexican restaurant with low end staff & management. Manager sat me with no menu & left me sitting there for over 10 minutes with no staff greeting me. Staff seemed to be upset customers who havent dined out in months coming in half hour before close. Who closes at 8pm on a Friday night. I was ready to drop a big tip on a big dinner and a to go. Instead I went to taqueria Victoria down the road from here at a much better price. This place is an overpriced Mexican wanna be restaurant. Best horchata in town is at taqueria victoria not this place. I tried to help this place out but the rudeness from the staff & management i will never come here again. This place will be closing very soon with the way they run this restaurant. BUYER BEWARE
Food is good but we arrived and asked for a table for 4 adults and 2 kids (1yr and 5yrs), the first thing that the hostess said was, we do not have high chairs or kids menus, the kids needs to be seated on the chairs or I would need to ask you to go, what kind of welcome is that? Again the food is good and the Mexican waitress is very kind but this guy that looks like the owner is very rude and make the experience very uncomfortable.
Worst customer service. Manager completely unprofessional. Have a therapy dog trained to be in hospitals, schools but wouldn’t allow him in his restaurant giving no reason other then no dogs allowed. Will never go here again and will recommend everybody else to never go here.
GREAT food, good service. If youre thinking about coming and looking up reviews to make sure you should give it a try: this is your sign. Come in for dinner.
I was let down by Maya. Chips and salsa are extra. The meat (finely sliced beef) on the tacos was bland, though the soft shell had a refreshing corn taste. This place is perfect if you want upscale, expensive food.
This place is amazing!! Probably the absolute best Mexican food I’ve had in the last 10 years (and I’m Mexican) I could not be any happier. Service was super friendly and efficient. 10/10 will recommend and be back as often as possible.
Food was excellent and more traditional Mexican street food fare. A nice change from Americanized Mexican places. Service a little lax but overall a good place. We will return
If I could I would give it 10 stars. Fabulous place...great atmosphere and the food is mindblowing.
Tell me you don’t want kids in your restaurant without telling me you don’t want kids in your restaurant.Look it’s cool, I have young kids and sometimes the vibe is off. All good.Just tell me that before I drive out there. Don’t wiggle around it by saying repeatedly “we don’t have high chairs.” I like adult only places as much as anybody - just don’t make me look like an idiot in your lobby for bringing the fam.
A pleasure to have in this Livonia neighborhood! Tried Maya Cocina for the first time and they did not disappoint. Initially I was taken back by the pricing, as it is steep compared to the traditional Mexican food offered in southwest Detroit. However, I still wanted to give it a try to support local business. I am glad we gave them a chance. We ordered the tacos asada (order comes with three), pastor (order comes with three), rojo tamale (order comes with one), half pint of guacamole & chips, and pomegranate margarita. It was all delicious, seasoned and spiced most appropriately. I must stay that the to-go cocktail was small (roughly 8oz), but packed a punch! The meals do not come with rice or beans, as traditionally served, but the tacos were filling. The guacamole is a deliciously spicy fire-corn guacamole and the rojo tamale was deliciously seasoned and spiced. The staff was very courteous and friendly when I called to place the order and when I came to pick up the order. I would definitely order from here again. The inside of the restaurant is nicely decorated, intimate and clean. I cannot wait to dine in when it is safe to do so.
Love this place! Frequent here several times a month and have never had a disappointing experience. With the pandemic and a little one that wont sit still, my wife and I have only indulged Carry Out, but the quality is not lost and is always fresh. Will continue to be a devout patron. Thanks for joining our community.
RUDE and purposely uncomfortable atmosphere for those they dont want there (i.e. families) with good but overpriced food. When you ask to be seated and the first thing out of the owner/managers mouth is a list of donts for your child you know its going to be... different?I went with my wife and 5 year old. When we asked to be seated the manager looks at us and states very sternly that they dont have booster or height chairs. My son is almost 6 and hasnt needed either in quite some time so I have no clue why he felt the need to tell us this at the time. He goes on to tell us they dont have a kids menu, my son should not be running around and should remain seated. At first I thought he was kind of joking with my son until he waited there, staring at us for acknowledgement that we would abide by his rules. After waiting quite some time for a server to grace us with his presence we ordered our $6 salsa/chips and $10 guac to keep our child occupied enough so he wouldnt upset the poor owner. The service felt purposely slow to make sure we didnt enjoy our experience and wouldnt come back with our pesky kid. Our son actually behaved really well during our extended stay at this restaurant. At one point he turned around and touched the decorative chain hanging from the ceiling. Luckily I had already began to tell him not to touch it but he did slightly move it by the time he was able to stop. The manager saw this and began walking (seemingly angry faced) towards my son to reprimand him. My son had already turned back around so the manager aborted his mission of coming to play tough guy to a 5 year old. Im typically a very understanding person when it comes to restaurants as I worked in the service industry for years throughout my youth and in college. This place gets it wrong!Even more odd was how afraid the workers seemed to be of this manager. He went behind the bar to make a drink while the hostess manned the greeting stand by herself. Couples were walking in to be seated and she wasnt able to seat them herself. She had to go to the bar where the manager was, ask him where they should be seated but since he was busy he made her wait at the bar for over 10 minutes while this couple waited back at the stand, looking around and confused since there were many open tables. Additionally this authoritarian manager would walk around and ask his subordinates (servers) about their tables very secretively and they would look at the table and they would report back their updates to him.I get it... Youre NOT a family friendly place but I would AVOID this place at all costs regardless of who youre going with. It unfortunate because the food is good but not priced appropriately for comparable places in the area. We wont be back. It was a weird dining experience and the manager runs the place in a very bizarre and uncomfortable manner.
Most authentic Mexican cuisine in the area. Food has flavor! The staff and owner are polite and service was quick. Love the Mezcal and Tequila cocktails. Glad they exist as they are unique compared to the other Mexican options in the area.
Great place. Everything is fresh. Food is very good!! Get the alambre de pollo!!!
We wanted to find something different than regular Mexican so we tried out Maya and so very glad we did. The service was great and the food was amazing! We will definitely be back as we want to try everything on the menu! We had the De Asada tacos and cheese enchiladas along with chips and salsa and it was all fabulous!
Amazing. Food is out of this world and staff is so attentive. Really nice vibe inside. Love the art.
I love the food here. The service is great. The food quality is consistent as well. I’ve been here a handful of times now and I will always recommend this place. The drink prices are a little on the high side so just know that going in, but you won’t be disappointed otherwise
A solid Mom & Pop establishment, with beautiful interior designs, and an authentic deliscious selection of Mexican 🇲🇽 cuisines. Yum! 😋
More than youd expect from a strip mall restaurant. First of all, its loud, like a crowded bar. Service was mostly good, but they get five stars for the food. We had shrimp quesadilla, ablanes al pastor, and taquitos de pollo, all were delicious and well-prepared, just the right amount of spice (thats how you tell authentic Cocina Mexicana). We didnt try any of their specialty drinks, but it looks like theyre a highlight of their menu so give one a go if thats your bag baby.
Food was delicious. Drinks were great. Been there too time this months and will be going back.
Treated like family with a very charming female waitress also not that this is important but i was taken back she is beautiful! great service with lots of love! Thank you will tell others
Food was delicious and was very fresh! I really enjoyed the Carne de Asada and the guacamole. Both were delicious! I got a carry out order from here and it didn’t take long at all. Great place! Definitely going back!
10/10 would recommend. Tried it for the first time last night and was not disappointed. Drinks were fantastic and food was even better. Everything was fresh and the selection was great. I would absolutely go back.
5 star staff, owners, ambiance, and drinks. Food could be fresher, but quite a good place overall.
The manager informed us prior to even seating us that there was a time limit turn over in place. Meaning we were on the clock. The service was subpar taking a full 20 minutes for the waiter to even appear at our table. The food was very good in all fairness. But it was $$$. Including a $20 margherita which was nothing more than a south american inspired long island iced tea. 4 stars for the corn salsa. 1.5 stars for the overall experience. Bold prediction...this place isnt going to have staying power
Delicious food, high quality ingredients, nicely made cocktails, cool atmosphere, lovely soundtrack. I highly recommend this place if you want to have some bomb Mexican food.
Best service at any resturaunt in a long time! Great fresh food too.
Obsessed with that restaurant great food, great drinks and super clean. I would definitely recommend dining here.
The food here is good, And I’ve recommended many friends and clients of mine over the last year, but I won’t again. The owner here is incredibly rude. We made a reservation two weeks ago for 4 adults and 4 kids. While we were waiting for our food, my son was sitting under the table. The owner first came up to my wife and said ma’am you need to control your child and walked away. Two minutes later he came to her again and said the same thing and he didn’t want kids running around his restaurant breaking things. The boy is 3 years old and was sitting quietly, cross legged under the table not moving. We asked when we got there for a high chair and they said they were being used. They had 4 tables that were sat when we were there and not one of them had a high chair. If I were the owner of the business I perhaps would have addressed the situation a little bit differently. If they don’t want kids in the restaurant, why didn’t they mention that when we made the reservation.
I absolutely love this place! The food is always fresh, and you can actually taste it. The margaritas are also a big favorite of mine! Im so glad this place opened in the area- something we have really been missing. Yes, the prices are a bit on the premium side, but you are paying for a fresh, premium product! Did I mention how yummy those margaritas are!
Great atmosphere, music, the food was excellent and the service provided by Mariana and Juan Pablo was outstanding! Highly recommended.
Great food, a little pricey for the amount/quality but that could be because we ordered take out and it was a very busy night! Looking forward to dining in soon 💚
Fantastic atmosphere, very friendly wait staff, and excellent Mexican food. Maya very much feels like a trendy Mexico City cocina. Highly recommend!
Hate paying for salsa and chips. Food excellent
Ate in the dining room and couldn’t have enjoyed our meal more. Great food, well presented, nicely put together menu and, most important, fantastic flavors. Livonia needs more restaurants like this! Highly recommended
Excellent restaurant, beautiful inside, gorgeous restrooms and a relaxing elegant atmosphere! Amazing drinks, and friendly staff! The steak tacos are amazing, the best I’ve ever had and I’m from California so I’m used to go steak asada tacos. Very great restaurant for couples, and family orientated! Romantic restaurant for date nights!
Dined here last night.. service was good and the food was amazing, more gourmet than the usual Mexican restaurant. So fresh! Craft cocktails were on point. I highly recommend eating here!
Great food. Great service. High end but worth the price.
Phenomenal food, great service, really nice atmosphere and decor. You wouldnt think you were in a strip mall!
Allow me to start by saying I am not even done with my dinner and I am writing this. It..is..amazing.We did carryout as our first trial run. Our dinners were accurate, fresh, and wonderful. They packed everything in a careful way to keep it fresh and tasty. The tacos (steak) were perfect. The enchiladas were a wonderful size for starters. The only complaint...and it aint much of one. Is the to go flan was a bit smaller than expected. But my wife still said it was .. and I quote Om nom nom. As a note, it is inverted so the syrup is on the bottom.Nothing about this experience said we should do anything less than enjoy it in person vs carry out.
Excellent food very similar to Barrio in Plymouth. Food is fresh and delicious a little pricey but you won’t be disappointed. It’s so nice to have them in the neighborhood. We willDefinitely be regulars.
Disappointed because we stopped in on Saturday. There was 1 couple waiting, they said it would be an hour and a half for a table. Guess we needed to try a different time
The food is great but this restaurant is not kid friendly at all despite being listed as family and kid friendly. The owner made our experience very stressful and anxiety inducing. The owner himself stated I am sorry we are not family friendly after we had already ordered over $200 worth of food and drinks. We were very clear in our reservation that it would be 4 kids and 4 adults and they decided to seat us at two different tables one with 6 and one with 2 even though they knew the oldest child was 5. This showed a clear lack of planning for his patrons. After making us all uncomfortable by making us all feel unwelcome they proceeded to make us wait forever to checkout. I do not recommend this restaurant for families.
This was seriously some of the best Mexican food I have had. You could tell everything was fresh. All the food was amazing, from the apps to the main course. But really, how did they make the chicken quesadilla so delicious. Seriously amazing. The atmosphere of the restaurant was also very nice!I would highly recommend going there!
I cannot say enough about this place. Opening shortly before covid shut down, they have gracefully overcome all the challenges they have been presented with. The community realizing how special it is to have a place such as this in Livonia, has outpoured support for this restaurant. From the special unique drinks, the intricate flavors of their dishes, the fantastic atmosphere and service, this place is a gem. If you are looking for authentic Mexican food, not cheesy slop on a plate, this restaurant is for you. They have Sunday brunches that are so special, and their desserts are a taste of home. Check them out. They are worth your hard earned money.
My first visit to this restaurant was Not Good! Overcooked, tough, greasy beef looked like leftovers from the grease vat and for the little portion served, was way over priced! Several weeks later, I decided to give it another try. Same as before, food was unremarkable with little flavor, prices are way too High and the music way too Loud! Waiter was pleasant. I would Not recommend this place. For really good Mexican food try Las Palapas instead.
Wow! I am so mad I have not come here sooner! The food was out of this world. Everything was made in house and outstanding! It took everything I had to stop eating! Our waiter Angel made wonderful suggestions and the food was definitely worth the experience! I had the al ambre de pollo and the espirtes. The flourless chocolate cake was warm, gooey, and perfect! You need to check it, this place slaps (was awesome)!
Very nice atmosphere! The appetizers were delicious! And the main course was impeccable. Come on down and try the Mahi Mahi and be sure to follow it with a flan for dessert! The server was very kind and the owner made it a point and come chat with us personally. Definitely the perfect place for a night out with friends or your partner.
Food is excellent, not typical U.S Mexican food. Its quality but you do pay for it.
We were going to eat here but once we were seated it was really loud and we just didnt feel good about the vibes from the people in there. As My Daughter put it they seemed uppity
Beautiful and Amazing food!!! I recommend to anyone looking for a great meal. A little pricy and its authenticity and style are worth it.
Ok food very expensive drink were just ok
Food was excellent. Staff were friendly and attentive.
The food was quite good. Its a bit on the pricey side, so not ideal for a family outing though my 10 year old enjoyed his meal (small miracles). Only one waitress on duty so service was not what youd expect for those prices. Manager was helping, but should/could have done a lot more.
Excellent food, fast and friendly service, nice modern dining room.
Their shrimp and Mahi tacos should earn Michelin star’s, por el amor de Dios. Locally owned and owner managed, this is a customer experience driven Mexicana gem
Absolutely love this place!!! amazing authentic food, friendly staff and very clean. 10/10 would recommend to anyone!
The decor is fantastic, music is awesome.Wait staff is friendly and super accommodating. But the food, OMG the food.Like my family makes, all the flavors.Don’t wait. Support this restaurant because we need quality food in Livonia! Not to say we don’t have it, but it’s also great to have new and exciting food here. Our new favorite place. Sorry Palapas, we will spread the love!
Excellent food and service!!!Its great to see these types of smaller resturaunts and artisan shops aimed at offering HEALTHIER LIFESTYLE OPTIONS finally making theyre way into Livonia. These people sqwaking about the prices and or the size of the portions are the same people who waddle themselves thru Walmart every week and then complain that there are so many vacant storefronts in our city.Keep up the great work Maya Cocina and welcome to Livonia!!!
The food was delicious, you can tell that it is made from fresh ingredients, and the staff was friendly and the service was great. Try the poblano soup and pomegranate margarita. It is great to have a restaurant like this in Livonia.
