This is a cute little book store in Salem. It’s got a pretty good selection of new books and 3/4 wall of used books. It’s pretty tight, but most people are virtuous enough to get out of your way. They have a few rules, all of which seem reasonable. No photography, leave your drinks at the door, and keep your mask on. The staff was friendly, chatty, and polite.
Nice store and good location. Mask required which is great. Rude employees which is obvious since the owner has commented maskhole on my review which doesnt make sense because I wore my mask. Clearly the store owner and employees cant take negative feedback. I only hope they can improve their customer service as the store itself is good but Im not going to support such awfully mean people.
I would recommend stopping in for sure. Especially if your little ones love books. Staff was nice. There is no room to really walk so no strollers! The only thing I would recommend would be redoing the stores layout. You walk in an there is puzzles an things to buy. While all the kids books are smashed in the back. Then there’s a table with books on them that kids can’t see an the table takes up space to access other books. I probably would have bought more had I been able to comfortably look around. Also the books didn’t have prices on them. The book was cheaper then the books written price listed. So that was nice. I really think this place could benefit from moving the kids books to the front.
On our ghost tour were told the place is haunted...books fly off the shelves. Ghosts seen in the basement carrying bottles and paranormal experts called in to evaluate the Site several years ago detected strong presence of spirits. Whether you believe in that or not, the lore is worth the stop. It is conveniently located on the main strip and easy to access.
Great selection of books at reasonable prices. Kind staff. Super cute artsy things for sale, too
I always make it a goal to stop at a bookshop when I travel. Im glad I stopped here on my trip to Salem! Great selection of Salem history books, tarot books, and other fun stuff. Great recommendations for what books to read about Salems history.
Best bookshop around, hands down. The staff is super friendly and always helpful. I appreciate the care they have for their customers, and the work ethic is always consistent. If a book isnt in stock, they are typically able to order it immediately and the turn around time is always prompt and followed up with a call. Im so excited to see you all back open. Shop local, read local!
I love this bookstore! The first time I visited Salem in 2015, this was the first store I visited. I have returned to Salem and this store ever since. Great selection, always something unusual and interesting, good local book selection, and fun gift items. WGB has my heart
Delightful bookstore. Happened in on a Sunday morning. Charming employee at the store showed us around and gave my son very nice recommendations. Very pleasant experience all the way through. Salem is a fantastic little town and this bookstore fits right in.
If you are looking for classics or even something newer this is your place. The shop was small but had a bigger selection than I was expecting. I found the book I have been looking for and got a funny mug with my lady name on it. The staff was helpful and great to talk too. If your looking around Salem I say definitely go.
I just love stopping into this shop when Im in the area! The local interest displays never fail to catch my interest, and I always walk out of there with a new book for my collection. The friendly and welcoming staff are also always willing to help make the stop a lovely experience. I definitely recommend checking out this shop when youre in town!
A wonderful shop in an awesome town. Wicked Good Books is small but mighty, a must visit!
Cute store with a great variety of new & used books, local items, and a big selection of puzzles.
I loved the place! I am really trying to shop local and this place is a great way to do that.
Wicked good books? More like wicked bad customer service!
Really cute little book store in Salem with a great selection! Definitely worth stopping in.
Great local book store, unique finds and new selections. Helpful fun staff.
Amazing and welcoming environment for everyone! So helpful with book selections as well.
My family & I were going to go in. Unfortunately, they have a very rude handwritten sign. Says, “Sorry Karen, you must wear a mask”. We will not support a business who is directly insulting to people. We had no problem putting a mask on. However, the sign spoke volumes about the owners true intent and behavior. There were 5 of us, if each of us had bought even 1 item…
I love shopping here and I wish I was downtown more often! Their service is wonderful and as a Salem resident I am thankful to have an independent bookstore in town. At the start of the pandemic they were very helpful in getting books shipped to my house. One of my favorite places to pick up Christmas Presents, they have a very thoughtful collection of puzzles.
I love Wicked Good Books. Its one of my favorite places to visit in Salem. We would frequent the store when we lived in Salem, and we make every effort to stop by when we pass through Salem and have time to peruse new books. The staff is always friendly and a pleasure to talk to. The selection is great - I often find myself picking up presents about local history for my family based on their displays. And when something I want isnt in store, they help me special order the book. Ive been trying to stay safe during the pandemic and stay in when I can, so I miss visiting the store in person. With the holidays coming up I plan to place orders through Wicked Good Books for gifts for others, and recommend them to friends and family if they need to order books as well.
Lovely little bookshop in the middle of downtown Salem. We love browsing their selection. My teens love the YA section and there are usually great used finds. As a Salem resident, Im glad they are doing their part to enforce mask rules that unfortunately many tourists dont want to comply with. During the pandemic theyve been great about taking email and phone orders so we dont have to deal with entitled tourists and still support this gem of a small business.
Booktacular♥️🤓📚
Place is beyond amazing!! nothing but diverse and yet educational books that you can always learn from the staff is AMAZING the ambiance is chill im glad theyre there♡♡ everyone should go
We love our local bookstore! My toddler LOVES to read, and for my sanity we try to add to his book collection regularly. This is one of the only places Ive felt comfortable bringing him during the pandemic, and we are both so grateful to have this little gem to visit regularly. Theres always a great new pick for him to discover, and friendly and welcoming staff. Some days when we leave daycare he pulls me down the street for a visit!
I have been shopping here since I was a yearly tourist and even more now since I moved here six years ago. The store is charming and well set up for maximum ease of browsing. If they don’t have a book you want they’re happy to order it for you and are a good resource if you’re not sure what to buy for a gift. In addition to books check out their clever literary or cat themed merchandise. And they have the best logo of any business anywhere—pick up a tote or tee shirt of the kitty reading a book like I have! I also appreciate their strict adherence to COVID precautions; without them I wouldn’t be shopping in person.
This book store is an amazing asset to our community! The staff is kind and knowledgeable. Theyve always been happy to answer questions, make a recommendation or just share their love of books with us. The book selection is really robust, we never leave empty handed when we visit.
Great bookstore! They have always been friendly and helpful. An excellent selection and always willing to help you find what you’re looking for. Very knowledgeable about their inventory.
Love this book store. Love the selection of local authors they offer. Staff has always been wicked friendly and helpful. Its one of my go to stops whenever Im in Salem.
Went there in early summer of 2019 as part of a day stop on a road trip. I always love checking out local bookstores and this one checked all my boxes of what I love in a bookstore. Hope that I’ll be able to see them again once traveling becomes safe again!
This independent bookstore is my favorite place to shop when I visit Salem. I love browsing through their great selection of books both new and used. The owner is very enthusiastic and helpful in selecting the perfect book. This is exactly the sort of independent bookstore I want to support. They are very committed to making their store a safe and comfortable environment.
This place is one of my favorite places in the world. I live in Salem and have been here many, many times. The staff has always been helpful and extremely nice. They have helped me find books and ordered any I asked them for if they weren’t in stock. And of course my dog absolutely loves them!
I absolutely loved my visit ! The store was taking every single precaution to ensure I felt safe and comfortable while still being able to enjoy one of my favorite activities...supporting small book stores! I got two amazing new reads and I thank the staff of Wicked Good Books for there hard work and dedication at this time. ❤
What a great store!! I ordered a book from them a little while back and due to covid it took longer to get me than usual. They were wonderful at keeping me updated on when I would receive my purchase. When I got my book it came with a hand written note on a book mark. I will definitely be ordering from them again!
Absolutely great bookstore with a great selection and will get for you anything they may not have on hand. Excellent Covid 19 safety protocols...notable the only complaints are from people who were asked to leave for not keeping masks properly on and other related belligerent behavior. (Hint: take the time to make your mask fit properly and it doesnt slip off your nose at all and you never need to touch it!)
Awesome selection of books, from true crime to fiction, they had it all. Included in your experience are small post-its throughout the store, kind of like librarian notes, that highlight some fun facts about the books and the shopkeepers opinions. My favorite was a caption on 1984 that stated current events!. My new favorite book store!
Amazing little bookstore in Salem!! The employees are so kind and helpful. They have hand sanitizer as soon as you walk in, and only allow a certain number of customers in the store at a time. Very well organized. I can’t wait to go back!!
The people there are always super nice, and I always find a good book to buy whenever I visit. They also have really cute knickknacks for sale. Currently, they are following strict Covid guidelines, which I appreciate because I dont want to get sick or sicken anyone else in turn.
My family adores this amazing bookshop. It is my 11 years olds first stop when we go to Salem every year!! Thank you for all you do!! For the customers who are on here leaving disrespectful reviews.. maybe one should learn how to wear a mask 😷!! Its not hard!!
Love this neighborhood bookstore. Excellent variety in stock including a nice selection of witchy-themed books and Salem history. They also have a sweet little children’s section and the staff is always kind and welcoming to little ones.
Extremely rude workers. Blonde worker swore at multiple people in our party. Wouldn’t recommend unless you want to be bullied.Per the reply:Reminding someone to pull up their mask when it slips below the nose is completely appropriate. No one is arguing that.A gentle reminder of someone to make sure their nose is covered is an appropriate way to address a mask slip. You yelled at them, we felt uncomfortable and we left. You then swore at us on our way out.The issue here is simply that you are unkind. Just look at the way you address other people even in these comments. You should be ashamed.
This is a must-visit every time Im in Salem. The staff are so smart and so helpful, and I always find a great read in their Local Authors section. One of my favorite bookstores on the planet!
Best little bookstore in the best little city. The staff really knows their inventory and are extremely kind and helpful. Definitely worth stopping in!
Been a few years since we have been to Salem. We moved to Georgia. Wicked good books is a great place to shop. Everyone was very friendly and helpful!! Happy holidays!!
A wonderful little book store complete with new titles, classic favorites, and new reads. I always stop in when Im Salem. The staff is lovely and Im proud to support them and their beautiful store.
I love coming here the staff are friendly. They have the best selection of books. I recommend coming!
Visited on my trip to Salem many times. Love the local spirit, and they have sign copies of books from local authors. The staff is helpful and friendly.
Wicked Good Books lives by their name- Wicked Good! The staff is always helpful and friendly when youre looking for a new book. Though we havent been by since Covid (traveling from NY in a pandemic seems irresponsible to say the least) I had no idea what books on Salems history I should get. The woman who helped me out was knowledgeable in the towns history and gave unbiased reviews/summaries of the book they did have.We are going thru a pandemic and small businesses have been impacted. If youre reading reviews and are on the fence about visiting this one in a million bookstore, do it (but be smart) wear a mask, be patient and support a local business whether in person or online with their shop!
I come here every time I visit Salem, and also order books direct from the site when Im home in Pennsylvania. I have only had 1 order issue, and the people I spoke to helped me immediately. They replaced my book with the correct one and let me keep the signed book they accidentally sent.I would like to point out that all the negative reviews the store seems to be getting are from the same group of people, who seem to be telling the same story as if it was different instances. I would personally disregard those reviews and focus on the ones from people who are actually customers of the store itself, and not those who dont follow safety guidelines of a private business who has the right to refuse customers if they are endangering the other people in the location.
One blonde lady was kinda rude, and Ive noticed other reviewers saying that, and her responses to them. (Is there any excuse for swearing at a ten year old as one of the reviewers said? If this many people tell you to change your attitude and you still havent, thats a bit weird. Next year Ill be back so Ill change my review then. Other than that its a cute shop and I dont think one of the workers being rude is any reason not to go, and if you look at the photos those are the kinda books here, also the other lady was very nice and patient with my mother whos first language is not English.
Certainly worth a visit. Fun and quirky little bookstore. Found some fabulous gifts!
Love Wicked Good Books. Thank you for keeping us safe. Once its safe to visit, Ill be there!
The folks at Wicked Good Books are always helpful when I reach out for ideas and book recommendations beyond my own knowledge/experience. They are knowledgeable and creative and wicked good at being amazing book people!
Visited Salem in 2019 and just now getting to this review - LOVE this bookstore! Great selection of local books perfect for a spooky, rainy night in!
Wicked Good Books is wicked conscientious! So grateful that this fabulous bookstore puts the safety of its customers and staff first, and is willing to enforce mask-wearing in spite of trolls who wont cooperate and try to ruin the experience for everyone else. Wicked Good Books is a Salem Treasure!
Wonderful bookshop- stop in every time we visit Salem:) they’re very conscientious re. covid and always kind and helpful.
Such a great store. All the employees are extremely helpful and friendly. A must see when you are in Salem
Great space. Wicked good books. Places like this deserve our support. Keep up the good work!
Extremely rude employees. I watched one blonde employee swear at a 10 year old for exiting out the wrong side. I will not be back.Just to clear some misconceptions, everyone in my party was wearing their masks. Someone’s mask slipped slightly below their nose. They weren’t even aware until we were screamed at. Upon leaving the store, a 10 year old child exited the wrong side and was repeatedly sworn at. As someone studying for an MBA, that was very poor behavior from a business owner. Everything can be said in a nice way and what I witnessed was very unprofessional and frankly just embarrassing. No matter the situation, it is not okay to swear at an innocent child. There are no excuses for this behavior, especially from a professional adult.
Friendly staff. Great little book shop. Highly recommend
Fabulous local resource. A treasure to Salem and surrounding towns. Thank you!
The people who work here have an attitude, they were very rude. Not giving them any business. Would definitely not recommend anyone buy here
Fantastic indie bookstore doing their part to help keep readers safe during the global health crisis.
I love browsing bookstores and this one seemed to perfectly capture the spirit of Salem. The locals and gift section were great.
Awesome little nook ticked into historic Salem Mass. Its currently closed but hopefully will reopen after major renovations of the village
Great place, great staff, great selection. I just wish that I could carry more books.
Simply the best of all the amazing little shops in Salem. I always end up finding a new book on history, a cool indie take on a subject. So well thought out and planned. But not only that, they have a whole section of cheap paperback classics and used books that are so affordable. Great kids section with cool selections. Hard to hype a bookstore but its a MUST go to.
Support retail businesses that enforce a mask policy- happy to say Wicked Good Books is one of them.
This book store is fantastic. It is small, but it has the most amazing books. I went in there two time in one day. The employees are so helpful, sweet, and honest. The accessories are also fantastic as well.Thank You!
Absolute favorite book store. Great selection and the staff is superbly helpful and friendly.
I enjoy browsing for books. Wicked is a great place to do so. Prices are good and they have a large selection.
Fantastic bookstore - they do a great job of maximizing the space to be a book lovers dream. Somehow theres something for everyone, including every price range. I picked up two bestsellers for a total of $8.The staff are also amazing with recommendations - I told them what Ive read and that Im looking for something new, and was pointed in a direction I never would have considered otherwise. One of those bookstores you cant wait go back to!
Amazing crew! Wickedly smart and kind! A must stop for all!
One of my favorite little shops to visit when my family visits Salem! Friendly staff, a must visit.
I recently attended wicked good books in Salem MA. Upon leaving the store an employee swore at us multiple times and called us foul names. The entire line waiting to enter the store heard her swear at us multiple times. It was the epitome of unprofessionalism and it really put a damper on our day. I will never go back to this book store when visiting Salem.
Small book store packed with quality literature. One of the best bookstore I have been. The staff is extremely helpful and well versed in history books. This place is truly a Salem Charm. Purchased a few Salem History books.
Great small bookstore. They wont have everything but they have a good selection. Great location, quick stop for your walk through downtown Salem. They have a section specific to Salem, local authors, fiction and non-fiction. I love to walk to this bookstore when I need a new read.
One of my favorite book stores yet. Went in And got one of their staff recommended books and it was great. Yea it’s small but it’s packed with a bunch of cool books and had a good amount of books on Salem and surrounding area on top of having new books. Probably my favorite store in Salem.
The store and the staff have always been a safe haven for me when Im in Salem, who let me perform in front of the store on Essex, and have allowed me inside during bad weather. Also, I get gifts there when I need them. A must-stop when in downtown.
This is the quintessential bookshop you would expect to find in Salem Massachusetts. It was part of a very special day I spent there and I loved all the eccentricities and the atmosphere all together. I bought little toys for my granddaughter just to buy something there. I wish Id taken pictures and have more time to spend there.
Fun bookshop right in the heart of salem. The illustrated Harry Potter novels caught my eye from the street. And for fans of the series, theyve got lots of other Harry Potter merchandise.
I love this bookstore. All the new stuff then lots of used books too. I love that it isnt a chain, the bookmarks are adorable too.
Good selection of new and older titles; very helpful and friendly staff. And of course, they will order a title for you if you cant find it on the shelves. Love supporting independent, local businesses!
Great selection of titles hon the surrounding area and history, local authors, and bestsellers. They also have used books! I found an out-of-print science fiction novel by a favorite author. Plus a ton of cool gift items.
A smaller selection but a more curated one. Good amount of local interest and nicknacks. Nice friendly staff.
An exceptionally great book shop! A must visit!
Nice place. Friendly staff
Great little book store. These days with kindle and online books, its nice to walk into a book store and smell that library smell again.
A great little getaway in Salem! Lots of witchy information but also an all around lovely bookstore.
This was a great little independent bookstore that sells a wide variety of books perfect for someone on vacation
I wont shop anywhere else. Rachel is fabulous and a wealth of information. My pups are always welcome. Shop small, shop local!
A sweet little bookshop not a huge selection but full of character and obviously with the ability to order anything you cant find on the shelf.
Limited selection, but nice staff and locally owned and operated. Good selection of Salem Local History.
A good mix! Some used, some used, some history, some witchery :) I bought a book about local architecture. Cool little store!
Cool little book store. They also have a wide assortment of catchy/geeky things. Its not just books here :) Fairly priced, and the shop keep is very helpful/friendly.
This is a cute little book store that also carries some local artist things. I found some clever wood pressings that i laughed long and loud over, then purchased so I could laugh my way home. Alternative History at its finest. Not one of those bookstores you can spend all day enjoying, but definitely worth the stop for some good reads and touristy knick knacks.
