Amazing place to rent or buy instruments. We rent a school instrument and recently purchased a guitar for our son which brought him to tears. We appreciate the care the staff (Shaun) gave in helping us pick it out!

Dont operate according to posted hours and refuse to help even though they clearly see you. Go somewhere else. Waste of time.

However, staff, including Rick & Andrew, took their time and assisted us by kindly explaining what we need based on my sons school requirements. We received the quote as soon as we were there, and it was ready for pickup the next day.One other place I called didnt have an on-site tech, so I would have to wait for a call to receive an estimate after dropping it off.

This place charges a small fortune for flute service. Their excuse is that it would have been free if I were to have been renting the instrument from them instead of purchasing a used one from a young woman starting a family. Get this: $10 for parts, $225 labor, plus tax!!

Yesterday my daughter and I stopped by our local instrument store, which just happened to be High School Music. Upon our entrance we were not greeted, nor was our presence ever acknowledged. Quite shocking in that this store is supposed to cater to children and I can only assume help parents make the right decision in choosing an instrument for their child. It doesnt take much to offer a friendly welcome, but this was not the case. There were two clerks behind the counter I would like to add. One was busy with a customer (female), and the other just stood behind the counter and continued with whatever task they were engaged in (male). Fortunately for me, Im a music professional and educator, so I require little assistance when it comes to the acquisition of an instrument. But the reciprocity of the actions of the clerks, or lack of in this case, is negative in that I can only give back to High School Music what was given to me. This undeniably poor first impression means that I will never go back to a local vendor or recommend said vendor to students, parents, professionals, and other institutions. As its nice to have locally owned anything these days, Im afraid that I will continue to give and send my business to the larger chains and internet outlets.

My only experience with High School Music on 1604 is to get repairs done by their repair technician, Terry Ghiselli. I cant recommend Terry for instrument repairs highly enough. Over the years, I have had repairs done by a number of technicians around the country; and my experience has been that Terry is a skilled as anyone in the country. I got introduced to Terry through several professional musicians who bring their instruments to him from Houston for any servicing; and I have always been impressed with his work.

Great program on rental equipment. You build up credit every month towards the purchase of an instrument. We rented a viola made a couple of changes as he got bigger with no issues at the end purchased a new viola with the credit.

Probably a good place for band instruments but terrible place for guitars. I brought my guitar in to get my strings replaced. The guy helping me was very rough with my guitar. At first I let him do his thing as I was looking around the store and her a loud bang, which was my guitar on the counter top. I decided to stay near and try to talk with the guy a little bit, and in front of me a loud crash my tuner pegs hit the hard desk. Fast forward I see my guitar crash that desk again. When using his pliers dug into the bridge rather roughly, which prompted me to ask his instrument of choice. A flute... But its ok he is qualified because he plays with guitar players. When tightening the strings I asked if he was going to prestretch the strings before fully tuning. I was greeted with a confused look and Ive never heard that before, which is recommended byost guitar techs or even by the manufacturers themselves (Cordova). But this car crash of an experience ended with him cutting a string too short, all I really got after that was a I dont know why Im having so much trouble. I just grabbed my guitar and was done with this trainwreck. The funny thing is when I talked to him about pickups and pedals he told me that they were getting alot of clients and customers wanting stuff for guitars and that the guitarist were becoming a new customer base. So recommendation to High School Music, hire an actual guitar tech or someone with knowledge on how guitars work and how to change strings. You guys are supposed to be the experts. Oh and most importantly RESPECT AND TAKE CARE OF YOUR CUSTOMERS INSTRUMENTS. Regardless Im never going back, and I will not recommend them for anything other than an orchestral instrument or band instrument.Guitar Players Beware!!! Go to Helotes Guitars instead.

Customer service was great only 4 start simply because to rent was already twice as much as purchasing an instrument and was not given that information from the beginning.

I went in to inquire about a violin rental. The man behind the counter told me that I had to bring my daughter, and that they would require a credit check to rent a violin. So not realizing what a deal-breaker the credit check would be (after all Im not buying a house!) I returned later with my 10 year old daughter and they showed her a violin that she was excited about. When I told the man I was interested, he ran the credit check and then came back and told me they would not rent to me and then condescendingly told me You are behind on all your bills... At that point, they seemed in a hurry to get me out of the store. As we drove somewhere else my daughter was disappointed so I returned to voice my displeasure that I cant rent a violin, and that if the credit check was such a deal-breaker, I wish they had told me that when I first got there because nowhere else has my credit been so bad that I was denied business. The manager seemed unsympathetic to my plea, I even offered to pay a deposit but no dice. He never suggested anything else I could do, or even recommended somewhere else I could go - it seemed his only interest was getting rid of me. This place is elitist and rude - dont try to rent from here unless you have perfect credit - and I really loved some snot-faced 20 year old rebuking me about paying my bills on time as if it were any of his business. I also used to work for the NISD, know lots of music teachers and will tell them all about this experience - way to go guys! keep up the great work! If your goal is to alienate customers you are well on your way - going to end here so I can take my business elsewhere, and with 7 kids this is DEFINITELY your loss!

This pace has been AMAZING and taken ALL stress and worry out of having a 6th graded in band!! We rented a brand new alto sax that was delivered to the band hall for my son (we live 2 1/2 hrs from their location) last fall! The sax was completely covered, meaning any issues or problems we could’ve had the company would pick it up as well as provide a loaner until issue was resolved and sax was delivered back to my son ! Luckily we had no issues throughout the year but the reassurance made it easier to watch my son carry such an expensive instrument to and fro. Before setting up with this company I was frantic about how/where to get my boy into band! I even set up auto draft payments so each month I didn’t have that one extra bill to worry about having to go pay! Even though he has chosen not to do band his 7th grade year we aren’t stuck with a sax or payment either!! We are returning the sax and the payments just stop! I would HIGHLY recommend this company to anyone

Has everything my son needs for his band class. Very helpful and staff who really goes out there way.

We bought my trombone with an f attachment here, staff are nice and told us what it comes with and told us what we could come back for and explained everything. Very nice. Trombone was pre used and had no problems with it and it came with rotar oil and slide oil in the case with a strap to hold. Instrument quality is nice and Ill be coming back again for any instrument needs.

Recently bought a flute for my son as a highschool graduation gift. The staff was very knowledgeable and explained the differences in the quality and craftsmanship of the different models. If your looking for an instrument, its worth giving them a try.

I just needed a capo since my last one broke i already knew what i wanted, but the staff seemed to want to help me find what i need. Ive rented violins, and french horns from here and everything was smooth sailing. I do intend to come back.

The staff is rude and will ignor you if you have to return anything. They Lie and just sell you what makes them more money. They will not give you a straight answer when asked a question. They also are not helpful in finding what you need even if you have a list they ignor it and sell you what they want. I will never again shop at this store and will request for my childs school to stop sending parents there and to take them off the list of where to buy or rent instruments. If you are buying a intruments for your child for the first time do not go to this music store.
