I had a terrific experience in using the Sports Basement to rent a bike and conquer my fear of bridges by pedaling across. I called before the rental date to ask about leaving luggage there (I came straight from the airport) and they were great in telling me they keep it in a numbered bin for you while you have an adventure. Easy process and encouraging staff. I was given patient directions to make sure I hit all of the best places to ride and for photo ops. I conquered Hawk Hill as well and was congratulated when I came back. Bike worked well and the location couldnt be beat! Highly recommend!!!
I went in and asked if someone would be willing to patiently walk me through all the decisions of a full setup with a new snowboard, boots and bindings. Maddy (sp?) stepped up to help me which was huge (mind you she was in a cast with a broken foot). She patiently walked me through the entire process with amazing customer service, equipment knowledge, and the willingness to help. I cant wait to use my new setup! Thanks Maddy and Sports Basement for a great customer experience I could not have done it without you!
Brandon showed incredible patience as he fit my husband for ski boots. Kenny in the ski shop was super helpful and kind with helping get a ski tune! SB is the only place to shop for all your adventure and sporting needs!
This place has great customer service. We rented bicycles and the employees couldn’t have been more courteous when assisting us to pick our bikes. You can also rent other equipment here, such as skis and camping equipment. The store also has a nice variety of outdoor supplies, shoes and clothes. Highly recommended!
I love Sports Basement! Its my go to place for running, swimming, and camping gear. They have a great selection and awesome sales. Highly recommend their gear rentals as well - I once rented all the ski equipment (including clothes) that I needed for a weekend ski trip to Tahoe and it was less than $150!
SF Presidio Store - great experience. Access was easy and there was plenty of help. I was at an REI store on the same day and while a good experience at both, comparing the two stores Sports Basement hands down had a much bigger inventory. Great store.
Always a great experience shopping for anything running, camping, biking, etc. related. Theres plenty of options, good prices, and helpful staff -- favorite store in the city.
We are a frequent shopper at Sports Basement. often coming for a specific reason, but finding many other items! In this particular visit, we came in looking for athletic shoes for my son. Buying shoes is definitely an area where we wanted help (sizing, styles, sizes, etc). Within moments, an employee helped us get sized and find shoes to our liking. check out was easy! thanks!
I had a wheel spoke replaced by the bike shop and then browsed through all the gear. Each person I spoke to was very informative and genuinely helpful. I learned a lot and had a very pleasant experience. The cashiers were friendly and quick but patient. All was so good that I knew I would return so I became a Sports Basement member!
The rental process was easy and the staff was friendly. They have different models of bikes to choose from (we rented two sport hybrid bikes), based on the riding you plan to do; a lock and helmet are included. The prices are right as well! Easy drop off with no wait at the end…we will definitely rent from Sports Basement again!
Enjoy shopping for gear at the Presidio sports basement. Great staff and services. Good quality at fair prices, thanks!
The staff at Sports Basement was extremely helpful. They took time to explain the different types of bikes for concrete and dirt trails, adjusted the bike for me and inspected it prior to me taking it for the day. I rented a bike for $32 for the day which I thought was a great deal, and it rode very well. I will definitely return.
Love this location. We can walk the dog, return items, and shop the sales all in one trip!
Every visit to Sports Basement is a pleasure! Staff is so friendly, there is so much to choose from, and prices are great! I got a bike fitting from the Presidio location and would recommend it to any skill level of cyclist.
Wanted to post a review to give a shout out to Rich in the rental department. My family and I rented the surrey for my birthday ride. Rich greeted us and made us feel so welcome. He explained with detail where to ride safely and how to operate it.Rich was gracious and pleasant and a joy to visit with. He also made a dinner suggestion that we ended up loving.Sports Basement is very lucky to have such a wonderful employee.
The Best Bike Shop in SF! Jamie and Robert are always helping me with my 3 bikes. I feel always welcomed and get answers to my questions. All my 3 bikes are serviced there. I couldnt be happier.
Sports Basement is an amazing, HUGE store and the rentals department is super well-organized and friendly. I rented a carbon Cannondale Synapse (nice bike!) for a charity ride. The staff allowed me to pick up the bike half a day early to accomodate my schedule and the entire process was simple and easy. Great experience!
It was awesome! Great staff and equipment to enjoy the perfect ride (as long as you are willing to sweat hard climbing vista point).Really professional and efficient. bike was really well tuned up. Return was made so easy (“no sweat” for this part)
I know sometimes it is easier to buy online but the people here are great and its nice to shop in person again after the weirdest 17months ever
Great amenity for the city. It may be a business, but I consider SB a part of the community. With the loss of Lombardi Sports a few years back, SB is now the only real sports store in the area. They give 10% off to their Basementers members (free to join), so you always feel like you are getting a decent deal even on stuff that everywhere else is selling for list price. Great variety for all your sports needs including some rentals for stuff you might not want to buy.
Fixed my tire and tube quickly and efficiently. I came in with the tire and bad shape and left with a new tube and tire with repair-all done at a decent price.Even did a quick check on my brakesFriendly and knowledgeable service.
Great shop with great gear. Rich helped me with finding the right wet suit, super knowledgeable and helpful! Will definitely be coming back for all my adventure gear needs
The Bike service Team at Sports Basement Presidio was fantastic! quick to review my bike tune up needs. honest about when to schedule (not during over-booked Escape race week) . and delivered on-time and early. thank you!
Purchased my bike at sports basement and they built the bike and adjusted it for me. In addition, they even offer the first 6 months of maintenance when you buy through them. Definitely sign up to be a basementeer to get 10% off. The bike shop is so knowledgable and I stop by often to chat and help me figure out which model to buy next
I needed a new rear wheel (rim, spokes, and hub). The SB staff helped me find a good replacement wheel; however, they did not suggest rim tape. I wish they had done so; it would have saved me a second trip to the bike shop.
Nice location (next to Crissy Field), easy parking, wide selection of quality goods, friendly staff. Highly recommended!
Great store with plenty of helpful and friendly sales associates. Highly recommend if you’re looking for any gear and don’t want to over pay!
Helpful team helped me find what I needed for an upcoming car camping adventure. Really grateful for their expertise
My family and I always like going to this location as it always appears to be well stocked with running shoes in our sizes.
Massive, anything sports/outdoor/activity-related emporium for all your active needs. Located inside a former supermarket, this huge, Costco-sized store will (or should) have anything and everything you could ever need when it comes to sports, skiing, hiking, camping, running, etc... Presentation and visual merchandising is at the Costco-level as well.... But service is decent and theres always plenty of parking.
Pretty slow service due to some employees not respecting first come first serve, but huge kudos to Joe the filipino for serving us great, extremely positive and friendly he made the wait better
I’m always able to find what I’m looking for - one stop shop for all my fitness and adventuring needs. Staff are super friendly and helpful, and deals are great.
Its a great place they have it all. If its sports related theyve got it. If you didnt know what it was theyve got it or somebody can tell you what it is. Knowledgeable very cool staff, if you dont know what it is they do.
Jamie, Angel, and Thad are all top both mechs and they’ve helped me tremendously in getting my multiple bikes dialed. Whatever you’re paying them, triple it. All three of them have a great customer service attitude and they’re extremely efficient at diagnosing and treating complex mechanical issues. They’re very pleasant people and I will continue to pester them with all of my multiple bike ocd inquiries. They never seem to be faxed even when you guys are slammed. Huge props to all three of those dudes, I’m sure your other mechanics are great too, but I’ve worked closely with these three, mostly Jaime and they’re all rock stars
I enjoy many things about this sports basement: the awesome decor, the signage, the organization, how they put the orts in sports. No one else puts the orts in sports. All the folx who work there are super chill and help you when you ask and are always fun to talk to and into sports. The meat section is my fave.
The sales people were really helpful and accomodating! Love the 10% off for being a member.
Love sports basement. Sorta bummer they cleared out all the clearance in back corner. It was like going on treasure hunt for good quality sports clothing. Also, seems like selecrion is less now. Maybe I just hit a bad day before their new shipments still loyal sports basementer.♡
I got stuck with a flat tire and the bike dept helped me out for the most reasonable of prices.I am very satisfied 😀Plus they got lots of top of the line gear that you can shop on while you are waiting. You can even rent a yeti.
Histrionic location in the Presidio. Great selection of gear for about all your outdoor needs. Bike rentals for scene the Golden gate is key. Super friendly staff too.
The Presidio Sports Basement employees are top of the line in customer service. Ive been a frequent customer and have never met an employee that wasnt knowledgeable, cheerful, and willing to help. They always make sure I have the best customer experience possible. More specifically the rental process for camping, skiing, snowboarding is absolutely the best! Renting is soo much cheaper than doing it on the mountain and all their gear is great! Dont have ski pants or a ski jacket to go skiing? You can get it all there at Sports Basement. Want to tap into your outdoorsy self and go camping? Rent a tent for a price that wont break your wallet in half! Seriously theyve got it all. I will continue to be a loyal customer as the employees at the Presidio Sports Basement always make my renting and shopping experience a great one!
Always a great stop---always a great experience from friendly, knowledgable staff!
There was so much great stuff and everyone was really knowledgeable and helpful! I signed up for the lifetime discount too, which was only $25 and free shipping!
We love Tim! He was so knowledgeable about the three different types of shoe we were looking at and gave pros and cons for each and gave thoughts based on our intended usage. He had first hand experience with several of the shoes as well and was in general a great guy! He made our shopping experience wonderful and we enjoyed our shoes that day on the trail. We will be back, thanks Tim!
I had bad drive train wear on my bike. I brought it in, and the team in the bike shop were able to replace everything needed in 1 day. It shifts and feels better than when I first bought it.Please thank the folks that worked on it for me.R Banthin
Great prices and quick service for new brake pads
Would love to give this place more of a 4.5 star review but it’s not an option. Helpful/friendly staff, great size selection especially for women with short/regular/long options in many brands and categories. (Wife needs petite length that’s why I know). For the most part clean and organized throughout. Thought it was cool you could tell it was an old grocery store with the signing still up along the perimeters. Overall great experience, just needed a better selection/quantity of men’s casual clothing inventory. Stock was very picked over and limited during my visit on 01/30/2021
I always enjoy visiting SB. I was there to buy good everyday-socks for my sons, and I ended up buying running shoes (on sale!) and running socks for myself as well. It’s almost like shopping at Costco…I always end up buying things I didn’t know I needed. Lol! I’m looking forward to the new store opening in Stonestown!
Very easy to find what I was looking for in such an enormous space and kind staff
Awesome store. Has eveything could want to explore. And usually, I am an REI person.
Peter was working over towards the backpacking backpacks, he was very knowledgable and provided excellent customer service . He helped me find the right size backpack for all my needs. Would recommend
Great selection, as all sports basement. Super easy to park
Ive never had a bad experience at Sports Basement, but this past visit was exceptional. A rep named Reed helped me out deciding on some base layers, as well as gave me some tips to stay warm on the slopes. I cannot recall the name of the other 2 guys who helped me out to check my old ski boots - but everyone was awesome! Love this place...
Great service. Friendly and knowledgable
Sports basement team members are always excellent and i love the selection!
Horrible shopping experience. They follow you around like your a criminal. I wont be shopping here ever again. Your suppose to stay 6 feet apart but they actually dont. They ignore the health code for staying 6 feet apart. Not to mention so many health hazards with boxes laying all over the floor for you to trip over, things just laying on the floor everywhere. Including products that should be on the shelf just laying there. Instead of following people around, they should picking up these items to place back on the shelf in the right section.
Great selection of running shoes. if you know what you are looking for this is the place to go. no pushy sales people.they also provide a great tennis stringing service as well.
Always a great experience, Basement techs got me back on the road fast with a walk-in problem.
Got valuable, prudent counsel on replacing certain drive train parts for my road bike.
Store is huge! The space seems to be an old supermarket, because it jas signs on the wall that say Bakery, Produce, etc. My wife went for snowboarding boots, and the associate was really helpful. She measured her feet, described the different tiers of available products, showed her how the boots should fit, brought out a couple different pairs, and was easy to work with. Awesome in-store experience. The drive to get there itself through the Presidio, with the view of the iconic Golden Gate bridge, made it even more worth the while to go to this location.
Came here to get some work done on 2 of our bikes due to issues while riding by the Golden gate. The staff took our bikes right away and had us going in 20 minutes. The entire bike repair staff is very friendly and helpful.
I purchased a pair of MTB shorts at the Presidio Store about a week ago. I liked them so much that I wanted to buy another pair but did not want to make the long drive to the store to find the shorts were sold out. I made a call for an inventory check. James @ the bike shop took my call and physically walked to the clothing section and found the very last pair in my size. Mind you it’s almost like finding a needle in a haystack! He placed them on hold for me and I was able to pick them up the very next day. Due to Covid conditions, James made my trip worthwhile and I was in and out of the store in minimal time. James provided service above and beyond. Thank you Sports Basement!
Good place for sports shopping and for tourists to rent all kinda bikes. Rental staff is friendly & helpful. Bikes are well maintained and great mean to explore San Francisco streets!!! There are plenty of bike stands across city, so no need to worry about parking. Last but important has good dedicated bike trails. Most important part of this bike rental, if you rent if from Basically free bike rental store near Fishermen Dwarfs you will get credit of the amount paid for rental, which can be used for shopping at Sports Basement store. You are renting your 🚲 for free. 🤑
Awesome store. Great prices, good service.
Had bike service done at Sports Basement Presidio. Super easy to work with and finished quicker than estimated.Worked with Bob in the shop who was great. Thanks.
The bike was terrific but the time it took to check in was way too long.
On an outing to the sports basement the other day I encountered friendly and informative employees who were willing to take the time answer my questions. Thank you!
Easy to find just about everything you need to do anything fun in the sun, water, snow, trail, road, etc etc etc
Watersports gear, including inflatable SUPs, are now right by the entrance. Nice addition to an already great selection of sports and recreation gear.
Brandon was great! I have been snowboarding all my life and my old snowboard boots needed replacing. I always know what I think is best. But he brought new insight to my purchase. I even spent more money. Thanks Brandon!
My wife and I rent two bicycles for a month yesterday. Si, the person who took care of me, was very kind. He got two bicycles tuned up nicely and provided us with tubes and gases in case of flat tire too. Many thanks for your kind service, Si !
Got a wetsuit there, forgot the 2 gentlemans names that helped me. Either way they were awesome. They just got a shipment of oneil wetsuits and went the extra mile for me making sure i got one, when i couldnt locate them in the store. Thanks again guys
Great bike service. Top notch.
Great service. bike rental was amazing. excellent explanation. rrally wanted us to have a great day
Got a new pair of ski boots thanks to Trevor, Zack, and Maddy! Honestly the team here was so great - really helped me find a pair of boots that I would love. 100% would recommend going to them!
A fantastic experience at Sport Basement Presidio; the carbon road racebike I asked for was ready to go directly at reception. The friendly staff mounted my own pedals on the bike, and adjusted the saddle height. After that I could ride one of the most amazing biketrips! When returning the bike- same thing - the great staff helped me again and pointed me to the discount Id have using coupon.
Pretty awesome sporting good store. We went there to rent bikes for the day to ride over the bridge. At first we wanted the basic package for like $30 a day but then upgraded to the electric bikes and it was worth every dime. We had great customer service and the e bikes were super fast and helped us cruise over the big hills making our sightseeing much more enjoyable. They were not super strict on the return time either for a 3 hour rental. Just as long as you are close enough. Would return!
Super Sweet location!! When I did my first hike with The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, we, the group met here first. Then we headed out for an awesome hike going under the Golden Gate bridge. Sports Basement does lots of events for the community. Cool.
If I could give 0 stars I would. Way over priced and not very friendly staff. Wont be back here.
I rented a bike here during my vacation and bought some sports equipment. Super friendly staff and a very good quality-price ratio. Surely very recommendable!
The store is well organized and easy to find what I need. Love sports basement!
Favorite place to shop for bike things and other things. Know most of the bike area employees by name now. A lot of the prices on hard goods are comparable to Amazon, and much prefer to shop at Sports Basement. Favorite place to shop in all of San Francisco really. People there know what theyre talking about!
I dont like to shop, but I like to shop at The Sports Basement! Its got all the stuff and the best employees. So helpful!
A couple of associates helped me. And I had no trouble of returning some of products that I bought previously. One thing concerns me that one of my orders says complete, but I have not received a ready to pick up announcement.
This is a pretty good size location filled with a wide variety of sporting goods. Im constantly impressed with the level of service I receive at all sports basement locations. The store is so big and they carry so many brands/categories of items, that it can be tough to navigate but that means they probably have what you need and the staff is happy to help guide you. What makes this place unique is that when you are done shopping you can go across the street and take some great pics of the golden gate bridge, Alcatraz, the palace of fine arts and will soon be able to enjoy the tunnel top parks.
Everyone was super nice in helping us get our ski equipment rental, even last minute. Highly recommend!
Sports Basement is the best. I have been shopping there for years and their staff is consistently kind and helpful. My last visit was to repair a bike that I had not used in years and was somewhat nervous to ride at my age. Lucky for me, Angel was the employee that helped me. He is extremely professional, clearly an expert in his field, and personably. I left not only with my bike in in excellent working order but with some confidence in my long-lost biking ability as well. Angel was great, give him a raise!
Friendly and helpful sales representatives
Going above and beyond! Special thanks to Eric (Bikes manager) for not only helping me resolve a bike payment issue but also making sure I got the bikes on time for my vacation.Considering that the bike order I had placed was online and the bike locations were Redwood City/ Walnut Creek, getting connected with Eric in Presidio was a an error in the phone call transfer. After patiently listening to the issue I had with the order, Eric took the time to call a few other basement locations, locate a bike, enable my payment and ensured my bikes were ready the day after! Thanks!I always try avoiding buying at online stores and prefer supporting local stores. Sports basement had always been of my favorites. Thanks for making my experience great!
They have a great selection and the joining program is worth it.
Amazing rental service
Been going to sports basement for a while now, they built 2 bikes for me which were both clipped in SF, it happens. Beautiful location ( in a National park with views of the GGB) to shop for sporting goods. They have a good inventory of everything you need to enjoy the outdoors and the indoors. The pic is of a bag that inspired me in the store.
Huge selection. Extremely knowledgable and helpful staff.
