This place is simply amazing and I enjoy coming here every time I am in spearfish. I love waking up early and having coffee and breakfast here! After traveling all over SD and living here all my life, Blackbird Espresso easily has the best coffee in SD!

Great atmosphere. They have a large selection of coffees and tea. Breakfast choices are limited to oatmeal yogurt breakfast sandwiches and waffles on the weekends. The paleo pumpkin bread was fantastic.

I wish they used actual espresso roast for espresso. They use a city to full city roast that lacks the boldness of a true dark espresso. Other than that the shop is a nice peaceful place to get a cup of coffee

Fabulous coffee shop! Good coffee and first-rate pastries. My strawberry-rhubarb galette was delicious, and don’t miss picking up a little bag of “scraps” (pie pastry strips sprinkled with cinnamon sugar).

Very friendly staff, rich pastries, and solid iced mocha. Neat atmosphere and nice outside patio.

The coffee was good and I recommend the pop-tarts! The staff is Friendly and courteous. The ambience is very nice.

I have been traveling around Wyoming and South Dakota for 6 weeks and absolutely without a doubt Blackbird Esspresso is THE BEST!!! The girls that were working when I went in were kind and thoughtful. But ohhhh the coffee!!!❤️

Best açaí bowl I think I’ve ever had!

When my wife and I come to Spearfish we always stop here in the mornings. This place singlehandedly kicked off my Acai bowl obsession. A bowl, a poptart and an Iced latte is the perfect start to a fun day in the Black Hills. Highly recommend it!

Customer service was AWFUL. We asked if they had sugar free syrup and she just shook her head and stared at us. One of our drinks tasted like soap and wasn’t mixed. They used whole milk in all of the drinks without asking. I was a barista and the standard is 2%. Very disappointed in both the drinks and customer service. DO NOT GO HERE.

Blackbird Espresso is my ideal of a coffee shop! It has old fashioned wing backed chairs positioned in front of a fireplace and lots of electrical outlets. There is a nice bicycle shop next door. Blackbird Espresso has superb coffee, simple, tasty meals, and wonderful desserts. I ordered an extra hot latte and an apple galotte. Heavenly! The staff is friendly and professional and it is easy to start conversations with other customers. Highly recommended!

Cute coffee shop with accessible parking. The food was very good! Came here multiple times while staying in town. We tried raspberry pop tart, açaí bowl, the Ploughman sandwich, and a breakfast sandwich. All were great. The coffee is very good too! Tried a latte along with one of their specials, a sweet cream cold brew. Would definitely recommend this place to family and friends.

I like it! I just wish Covid wasn’t going on, I’m not a fan of wasting all the disposable cups for an espresso. So I drink more coffee at home to balance out the guilt of creating all the waste. But other than that the beans are good, the staff is great and and the sandwiches are dialed in. Great place in a great space.

They coffee was expertly made by the baristas! Great atmosphere! If we lived in the area we would frequent this place often. Stopping here in the morning before we headed out to pick for our Etsy shop was just the jolt of energy we needed!

The cold brew was absolutely amazing and the staff were all fantastic. Their prices also made me feel less guilty about treating myself to a coffee shop cold brew instead of making it at home.

We are visiting the black hills and stopped here, cute little place! Service was good, they are fast and very friendly. Nice outdoor seating too. Coffee tastes great! We are all happy.

Had an iced latte here with friends. It tasted quite bad, a bit like burnt rubber. My friends didnt have any issues with their coffees, however. If Im passing through again, Id be willing to give it another shot.

Do not recommend** Don’t go there if you don’t have more then 30 minutes to wait for your order. Upon every occasion I have been to blackbird, they have had only one staff member working and are extremely slow & being that this happens every time, I think it warrants a review. On today’s particular occasion, I placed an order as the only customer in the shop. Following my order(an açaí bowl, which was quite mediocre), 3 groups of people entered after me and the worker proceeded to take their orders as well, not a big deal. 15 minutes had gone by, the man working had served every person after me their drinks and began preparing their food. I reminded the worker I was still waiting for my order and had an appointment to be at in 10 minutes (25 minute had gone by at this point). He finally began preparing my order only to stop halfway through to take another order. Safe to say it took close to 40 minutes to get my order and after two times speaking with the worker, I was late for an appointment. There are many other local coffee shops with equally priced, better quality service, staff and food.

Amazing gluten free breakfast pastries like muffins which is good for me because of an intolerance. I wish they could make gluten free breakfast sandwiches though. Id eat there everyday if they did! The coffee taste burn though.

If you really like coffee, like seriously, this is the place. Classic coffeehouse atmosphere thats sincere yet all inclusive. Food offerings are limited, clearly by design. Not a ton of novelty coffee confections with lots of syrup. But not devoyed of quirk. Very fair prices.

Very nice coffee house with an interesting assortment of local pastries. Prices are reasonable, indoor seating a bit smallish. You should expect some competition for seating by locals...but as always that is a good sign of quality!

Easily one of the best places for coffee in the Black Hills. This place is all about great espresso. Coffee drinks are the right temperature, i.e. you can enjoy your latte right away and it will be smooth and rich, not overly bitter. Prices on drinks are extremely fair. Limited food menu by design. Amazing staff and a great coffee house vibe without relying on too much kitsch. Not really a young kids place, but not unfriendly to youngster.

Excellent service. Great coffee and desserts. And even the guests that were around us were so friendly. Good ambience in the beautiful town.

Stopped by for a iced vanilla latte... the lid didnt seal so it spilled several times on me while I was driving. The latte it self lacked flavor and was a bit bitter. 3 stars is for the ambiance

All organic. Not very many flavors or syrups because they are organic. But coffee is yummy and the place has a cool vibe. No drive thru though.

The food here is amazing and the Italian soda was really good.

Beautiful selection of loose leaf teas and then have a piano. You can purchase loose leaf tea here in bulk as well. Try the lavender!!

I want to love Blackbird....great atmosphere, great pastries, friendly staff, local coffee, and organic fare. If they were a pastry shop, Id give them 5 stars!!! But they are a coffee shop, and their coffee has been consistently disappointing. I get plain lattes, and the espresso is always bitter. I have worked as a barista, not an expert, but we learned that if you dont get the right grind, if you dont tamp it correctly, or if you wait too long to pour the shot it will affect the taste.Love this place....i will keep giving them a shot every couple months or so...I hope hope hope their baristas get some better training on how to prepare espresso!
