Stopped at Common Grounds on our way through Spearfish. The coffee is fantastic and the baked goods are phenomenal! The cranberry orange and blueberry muffins were delicious.

Common Grounds is a local favorite thats been in business for well over twenty years. It offers a friendly, helpful staff, nicely prepared coffee drinks and delicious yummys. They sport a lovely patio for nice days and a comfortable interestingly adorned interior, with local artists works on display and for sale and comfortable seating whether you care to lounge or are getting together for a meeting. I highly recommend it.If your looking for Salmon, the owner Cory and his wife also own a small fleet of Alaskan fishing boats from which they catch what they stock. Their Salmon may be ordered fresh frozen for takeout. If youd care to sample the fare before purchase, order the delisciously prepared Funks Salmon at another excellent establishment, Killians Food and Drink at 539 W. Jackson, Spearfish.

Fiance and I came here - coffee was good and it had a really good atmosphere inside, but my fiances veggie burger was dry and tasteless. The kicker was my asian wrap - which had toothpicks hidden in the center of BOTH HALVES. Almost ate it thinking it was a fun new vegetable. Was disappointed.

Great coffee, cute barista. 😉 This is the place in which you can sit down and talk because the music is at a reasonable volume and most of the clientele are taking their products to go instead of pressuring you for your seat.

(2020) This was my 2nd year (first discovered the summer of 2019) stopping at this coffee house! Try the Highlander Grogg coffee...or better yet, buy some to take home, like I did ($$$ and 5 bagfuls later)!! The Fireside Favorite & Girlfriend blends are also worth noting! Their coffee beans are amazingly delicious and full of rich, robust flavors! Youll find amongst their menu, the normal for a coffee shop, as well as blended drinks and sandwiches that are unique to their location and creation - definitely wont find elsewhere! I highly suggest their CRISTO breakfast sandwhich = a different and eccentric twist on the famous Monte Crosto sandwich. Youll find plenty of tables, couches and unique decor really to make you feel at home inside!! I honestly wish I could pick this place up and move it closer to home!! ♡♡♡

I got a ginormous cold press and bagel here for breakfast. Both were so good! Who needs Starbucks when you have this coffee spot in town.

I have now been to three coffee shops in downtown Spearfish in the last couple of years. They are all good, and this one is kind of my favorite because it brings back memories. I went to Common Grounds many times when I lived in Spearfish from 2001-2004. It is neat to see it still going strong in a location near the original.

Love going to this coffee shop! The staff is always friendly and they always have a smile on their face. The coffee and the food are both always fresh tasting!

Well prepared and good tasting coffee, local art for sale on the walls, friendly staff, and a varied selection of coffee beans to buy for home. Owners son is an Alaskan fisherman who supplies the shop with salmon.

Atmosphere is real good....coffee not so. Im guessing they havent cleaned porta filters in a long time and buy coffee in bulk. Really let down, had high hopes

My husband and I are celebrating our 15th anniversary and vacationing we stayed in spearfish. We tried a few coffee shops and we Loved Common Grounds out of all of the coffee shops we tried in Spear Fish. We liked it so much we had to go there twice. Service was Awesome, the coffee and food was Amazing. Highly recommended❣

Went here yesterday and ordered a soy milk latte for someone who is lactose intolerant. The first one they made had real milk, so they said they needed to re make it. Well, the second one they made STILL had real milk, so we had an incredibly sick family member all night thanks to the barista somehow messing up AGAIN after acknowledging her mistake the first time.

Not just coffee!! Excellent ice cream and sandwiches and breakfast burritos! Order at the counter and they bring the food to your table. Great place to dent your appetite while sipping down some freshly brewed coffee. Ill go back when in town. Recommend highly to all coffee lovers.

Had the smoked salmon cream cheese on a sundried tomato bagel...soooooo good!! The lattes were great too!!!

Great coffee shop! Drinks and food are very good. However, not very handicap accessible. The ramp is all the way in the back and the doors are not wide enough to get some chairs through. We had to open both doors in the front to get a woman through. There are also no automatic doors which can make it hard for people in wheelchairs to get through unless someone opens the door for them.

I was only near here for the summer, but I made it part of my weekly schedule that both my days off started here. The salmon cream cheese bagels and Devils Bathtub latte were amazing, and the atmosphere was fantastic. I highly recommend this to anyone who is ever in town at all.

THE BREAKFAST.

So the coffee here is pretty dang good. So is the food and bagels. There is a pretty decent local following here so at the wrong time its pretty busy. Its also got very limited parking. If you have time this is a great place but if your in a hurry and the parking is full, try another place.

This is a cozy spot for good coffee or a cup of tea, while visiting with friends. There are always a variety of sweets to choose from, as well. And, it is a great place for lunch. The staff is always friendly.

Common Grounds has an extensive selection of very tasty breakfast and lunch options, but their drink menu is their best feature. The staff is pleasant, the bathrooms are beautiful and clean, and the shop as a whole has a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere. I highly recommend visiting Common Grounds Coffee Shop.

Really comfortable feeling shop with lots of seating (of a variety of types) and some outdoors too. A coffee shop but one with a nice looking breakfast /lunch menu with wraps, pastries and breakfast burritos /sandwiches and variations on that for lunch. Friendly staff. My latte was good, and I loved the monkey bread muffin thingies. Lots more to try, well be back and from me, its a reccommendation to try it out!

Stopped by at 7:30am after a long drive. Ordered a double latte and Rachelle Breakfast Burrito. Super fresh and loaded with tons of good stuffs. I also ordered a salmon bagel sandwich to go. Cozy, clean, friendly, and full of character. Coffee is a bit weak by west coast standards but by far the best and strongest Ive had in both Dakotas.

The salads are good. Nice variety of drinks. Depending on who makes java slushies, some are so watery or the drink cup is just above half filled, that there are days I dont drink it and the drain gets it. For the amount of money you pay for it, they should lower the price.

Such a cool unique sit down. Came in during thanksgiving to visit family. Cant wait come back. Excellent chai tea and yummy goodies. Plus you can get coffee to go in a bag

Common Grounds is the best place for coffee if you like a good atmosphere for relaxing, getting work done, reading, or to meet up with a friend. Their Bagel sandwiches and coffee drinks are all excellent. Employees are all very nice.

The Original Coffee Shop! One of the earliest coffee shops (if not THE earliest) in Spearfish. Great ambiance, staff, food, and coffee and other drinks!There is no drive through, but the staff is super quick at making drinks so walking in to get your drink isnt too much of a time constraint.

Overall good. The southwest breakfast burrito was pretty heavy on fresh tomatoes and peppers which I didn’t love but definitely a quality place.

Barefoot customers who never wear shoes, cold coffee in the dispensers, a chatty cashier who prefers to talk to acquaintances more than customers in line and then you get a bill .. but no indication of what you are paying for... sorry, but not liking this generally too lax management. Food = nothing special ... the casual, garage-sale seating is a fail as shabby chic.

Nice, casual atmosphere. Good breakfast offerings...the scrambler was just enough..egg, cheese and ham (other options of bacon or sausage); served with, if you want, cream cheese and/or salsa. Yummy! Drink offerings include hot or iced coffees, smoothies and slushes. Worth a stop if youre in Spearfish.

They have really good bagels and cream cheese along with an excellent butter rum latte, the only complaint I have is the chai tea tasted like they poured a package in with hot water.

Of ALL the coffee shops in this college town the Best is Common Grounds! Local arts and crafts are showcased here, Service is Fast and Friendly but once you get your cup (and they will do anything you ask) you can sit back and just relax.
