Chris is one of the most knowledgeable folks Ive chatted with in my hunt for a new gravel bike. Gave me a bunch of great information that comes from an obvious depth of experience. That, in addition to be super friendly, kind and low pressure, Im really blown away by the service level from this shop. Would highly recommend this place - they go way above and beyond.
Strictly for high end bikes. They dont do repairs on store bought bikes. If youre looking for a friendly neighborhood bike shop, keep looking.
Outside of my late fathers bike shop, this is the best shop Ive ever been in. They have helped me out with two different bikes. Theyve done everything from a derailleur replacement, to consulting on and helping with a restoration to an urgent brake repair. Their passion, enthusiasm, expertise and dedication is apparent in everything they do. Chris and Adriel are honest and knowledgeable and 100 % above board. I recommend them regularly to friends and family because I know they will be well taken care of.
Awesome A+ service. Thank you for accommodating my emergency needs for a shifter cable. Thank you, thank you, thank you, I will be coming back often.
Dont waste your time. They wont let you inside.
Hello everyone,Went here to put two tires onto two rugby wheelchair rims. They charged me $15 per install/ $30 total. This was $5 more than all the other bike shops in Tacoma, as I have had them do the same work. I just wanted to see if Defiance was good, and I should have walked out in the beginning. But I let them do it anyways, ending with $33 bill for work. This might not seem as a big deal, but when some people have very little money, and others have lots, this creates this problem. Frankly discusting IMO. The businesses that have a short term get rich need to fail. There was no customer service that stood out. Why was it $5 more than other shops!? I cant recommend nor will I go there again. Its sad to me to see gouging especially disabled sports chair.
Chris is so fantastic! He was informative, kind, helpful, knowledgable and an all around great guy to work with on a new set up. He went above and beyond to find a way to make my Surly dream a reality and I am so grateful. I highly recommend Defiance. I come down from Seattle, thats how much I love this shop!
Waited for 10 minutes for someone to acknowledge me at the register and then left. I understand being busy but at least acknowledge me especially if youre standing right there. They had some nice stuff though.
I love this bike shop. The guys know their stuff, give good advice, no pressure, and the shop does excellent work.
What an amazing bike store. I highly recommend them. I was traveling from Northern California and I stopped in to look at some handlebars. I was blown away by their knowledge and kindness. Thank you so much Defiance Bicycles.
Defiance Cycles is a rad bike shop that accommodates the casual to avid cyclist. The shop carries awesome brands as well as any accessories needed.
I bought a Salsa Timberjack from Defiance 3 months ago and absolutely love the bike. Adriel and Christopher were great to work with and very knowledgeable. I recently brought in my 2014 Kona Process and had them upgrade from a 2x11 to a 1x11 drivetrain, install new brake pads, new tires and adjusted dropper post control. All I can say is WOW!!! Its like a totally new bike with upgrades. Instantly made me a better rider. Thanks Guys!!!
Nice guys. Super helpful. Buy local!
Adriel and Chris are great. Im new to the area, and they both went out of their way to tell me about the best areas to ride, and even gave me a free bike map to show me. Also had the exact tires I was looking for that fit my fat bike in stock. Will definitely be coming back when I need more bike-related things, love this place!
Ive been a bike shop junkie for as long as I can remember and count Chris shop as one of my favorites. His bicycle knowledge is top notch and hes always got the latest on the local happenings. I dont get into the shop as often as I would like (Vashon Islander) and I am by no means a regular but Chris always remembers me and has a story. Good vibe, for sure.
Great place for your bike needs. Very helpful and knowledgable staff. Best bike shop in Tacoma. They go above and beyond to help you.
This local bike shop is about riding bikes. Not racing. Not tri-alalon. Simple, fun all roads welcome bike riding. They have always been excellent help with a zero pressure sales stance. I believe they started as a repair shop only and now carry a variety of real world affordable bikes. If you want thell help you build up something special and custom. Ive had them repair wheels and builds Ive done myself as well as purchased parts and recently a frame. Highly recommend. Youll leave smiling.
Great little shop with an awesome feel to it. If you are new to cycling or bicycle commuting all the guys will stand with you answering all of your questions. If you are looking for a new road bike, they dont have a huge selection but it is still pretty good for the size of the store. They mostly stock Kona bikes, which are great and very high quality bikes but i would like to see more variety. All in all, this is a great store and if you are in the market for a new bike or for service you defiantly need to check these guys out, everybody is awesome that works there!
Chris and team are top notch. I bought a Surly there and then my dad did. They are very attentive to finding the bike that fits your needs and are always there to answer questions or help long beyond the purchase. Go local, go to defiance cycles.
Went to Defiance to get my front tire fixed. I fully expected to leave the tire for the week as I had previously at another local bike shop. Chris figured out what was wrong and replaced my tire within 15 minutes. Mind you, this was at 6:30 PM on a Saturday. I was able to ride again the following day. Awesome service and very knowledgeable... Will recommend to my friends and will definitely come back again for any future service or repairs.
Helpful and reasonably priced. I went into the store today to pick up a bike lock that was reviewed on the website. I was highly impressed with Chris knowledge and attention to what everyday bicycle riders need out of their equipment. I will definitely be back.
Super nice people. They have a great selection and they will assist you in getting what you want. I recommend that you give them a try.
All of the knowledge, none of the ego.You know that bike shop that has over priced bikes, few parts, and seem to only say well we could order that for you? This is not that bike shop. Defiance somehow always seem to be able to find a solution, and you leave there feeling like you got what you needed, and just had a lot of fun.
Paid $120 for full tune and new tire.Simple things like cables werent replaced or even cleaned and the cassette and drive train werent cleaned. Left me wondering what they actually did besides replace the tire and break pads. The service was also lacking. They werent rude or anything, but they were not professional. I left feeling like I had been taken advantage of because I told them I was new to bikes and asked them to help me learn. A much more friendly bike shop has confirmed my suspicions.I will not be returning.
Chris (the owner) was incredibly helpful. I am relatively new to cycling, and he assisted me in picking out a bike that I have loved so far.
Always helpful and give me all the attention I need.
Very friendly, unassuming bike shop. Easy parking, occupied by a knowledge staff member at the moment of my early morning visit
Great friendly mechanics with tons of local knowledge about fun routes and rides.
Had a faulty pump and they replaced it with a new one at no cost. Ive been here multiple times now and it has never been expensive and the service is always great!
Came in to see if they had what i was looking for. Sure enough they did and the person who helped me was awesome to. Mos Def coming back to this shop.
(Yes, I went inside too--see edit below) Ive been riding and touring for many years and have been in countless bike shops across the country, but have never been talked to the way the guy at Defiance talked to me today. I was ready to buy, cash in hand. I told him I wanted a separate, less expensive bike for commuting. He snapped, Im so tired of people like you asking that stupid question. Just buy a lock. I told him I didnt want to park a $2,400 road bike in downtown DC where there is rampant bike theft, U-Lock notwithstanding. He asked if I was going to spend more than a thousand dollars on a bike there. Not from them.Edit: Yes, I did go into the store later (without announcing I was the guy who called) and was met with the same attitude. But, the response counts for something and the hipster comment was petty, so Im adding a star.
Amazing customer service ! Just swing by the shop, great people, local, lost of parts in stock and Grade A coustomer service, a place were they treated me like a human. Again thank you and will be back !
Super friendly and knowledable staff. Always have a nice time when I come here. Even when I have to ask them stupid questions.
Purchase 2019 Kona Dew to replace my stolden prize bicycle. This is a serious customer service store. Chris answered all my questions in a positive knowledgable manner. Ten percent off accessories, 90 day courtesy tune up.Please to start a service relationship with this business. 5 star business.
GOOD SMART PEOPLE - and they smile! For this Once upon a time 25-mile-per-day bicycle commuter, now riding an old mans electric tricycle, these people are a Godsend, the cream of the crop: patient, helpful and thorough. Zero shortcuts taken, great quality inventory, an excellent mechanic.... contagious smiles and Brooks saddles. What more could an elderly (going on 11-years-old) wannabe tricycle racer ask for? My Rocinante E-Trike iz my ADA mobility device, (wheelchair) built for fun. These guys sure do help keep the fun in it.
Knowledgeable and friendly bike people. plenty of used and cheap parts, and theyre totally willing to show you how to install or change stuff out.
I was told it cost 50$ in labor just to change 2 brake pads. Not including the parts. Thats taking advantage of a woman. A little bit steep for just brake pads replacement.
Went for basic repair. Left SMH. Have to assume the language I spoke a foreign tongue so cut my losses and bagged it. Wont be going back for my brand new ride come Spring. Oh well. Under the guise of process of elimination, this peculiarly awkward customer service encounter a worthy endeavor regardless.
They don’t help with trikes
Glad I found this shop.
I went to get pedals for my bike and the guy was a jerk. He acted like he was in no mood to be bothered with such a small purchase. And when i asked a few questios about my bike (im new to bike riding) he even spoke to me with sarcasm and a sh*tty attitude. Needless to say i left and made my purchase elsewhere.
Im a pretty chill guy so Im naturally drawn to surly bikes, especially since out of all the rides Ive done back home, trail riders are the most easy group of cyclists to get along with. Shoutout to Joe from Tacoma bikes who recommended Defiance and was kind enough to give me directions. Youre doing a great job with the shop Chris! Thank you for being patient enough to explain the Wednesday and fat bikes to me and if my wife hadnt come along (with the prospect of having to endure a deafening silence on the drive home), I wouldve swiped my plastic and left with my Surly. LOL. Ill come back for it within the week!! pls hang on to it for me. Peace!
Another store recommended these guys to me for a commuter helmet. I was hesitant cuz the place seemed unapproachably hip and im insecure. usually bike shops make me feel a little out of place when theyre too techie and professionablahblahblah but golly i was comfortable in there. guy knew what he was doing, eased me through the purchase, reassured me that i wasnt totally ridiculous looking in the helmet. nice relaxed feeling, and though totally a cool place, i still felt welcome. hooked me up with a handsome fender that i wasnt expecting on the way in too. good prices, and yeah id pay b&m prices at a place like this cuz i got schooled a bit too. go there-be happy-love tacoma.
Best bike shop in Tacoma. I do most of my own repairs, but on the occasion I need help, nobody does it better than these guys.
Great place to shop
RUDE STAFF I rode the bus a hour and a half just to see them told him i need help he basically blew me off poor attitude
