One of the worlds foremost leading outfitters of outdoor/adventure wear and equipment. REI never disappoints. Nice spacious environment to shop. Plenty of extremely friendly knowledgeable employees to help you with anything you need. Quality brands. REI is a destination shopping store, the Tacoma REI is worth the visit.

Always a fun place to shop. Great to still have staff that know their stuff and are eager to help. But have to say the stupid high sales tax, bag fees and such that come with being in Tacoma will probably have me ordering online. Still value the store to get hands-on with gear and get questions answered.

This is our second trip to this store. The first trip was to get our Hoka one ones Bondi. I wanted the Mach 4 roads but the 10s were too small for me. Kathy was extremely helpful and helped me choose the correct size and width shoe when I decide to purchase a new pair. There were also some clearance shoes that were returned in my size but I didnt like any of the colors or styles. Everyone was really helpful, professional and kind. I really appreciate that.

I havent been in an REI store since I lived in Seattle in the seventies so it was kind of an eye-opener to see this one here that I found in Tacoma. Its a very well laid out store and easy to find what you need. The staff was friendly and they made themselves available without having to hunt them down. For that point alone I will be going back.Theres nothing more frustrating for someone who doesnt really like to shop than having to spend the majority of the time in the store trying to find help in locating items that you want and need.

Great people. I came in looking for cycling shoes and was able to find exactly what I needed. I did have to order them but I wear a size 14 shoe. Thats not something most places carry because of the size. The dude that helped me was very helpful in finding what I needed. While I was sitting down waiting for him to come back from the back with a pair to try I was approached by 2 different members of the staff to see if I needed help. I thought that was very nice.

For those wondering - REI is currently open with COVID safety protocols in place - staff are friendly and attentive since in the case of shoes meant a hands off approach until trying them on. I am not a regular REI enthusiast, but I do shop here on occasion when I want good quality gear/ clothing and want to try on for fit rather than ordering online. They have a huge selection and I have never left unhappy. The staff there are great, especially Julie Myer, who always has a huge smile on her face and is ever so helpful. Julie, and the entire staff, are always courteous, professional, and knowledgeable. Julie even talked me out of buying a more expensive pack the other day and instead, put me into a less expensive pack that was way more suited for me and my needs.Im coming in this morning to pick up some snowshoes I rented for a trip this week. This will be my first time renting gear from them, but I am encouraged and hopeful it will be like all my other experiences here~ successful!

We took our two E-bikes in to have the brakes adjusted. Had to take them back to have them re-adjusted because they still were not working correctly. Decided to have the $90 Tune ups done. They said the they were unable to loosen the bottom brackets on both bikes. Had to take them back because they left the rear brake caliper loose on one of them. Then we took both bikes in to have tire liners put in and left both front wheels loose. Did not notice until we got home from a ride. With all the work and re-work done, they could not get our bikes safe. So, make sure you check everything before you leave the store.

As a former employee, being a part of the Coop in many ways is so rewarding beyond the dividend. Theyre stocked up, keeping 25% capacity, and maintaining best practices for COVID.Prices are expensive for MSRP but sales are constantly going, with an annual dividend of 10% that you can cash out. So thats nice to be handed money once a year whilst shopping!Consider shopping online as well during these times since garage sales are postponed and in-store shopping can still be crowded.

I went here recently to return three items that were the wrong size that I ordered online. The lady that was working at the desk was a younger lady that had thick fake eyelashes, probably a new employee. She had a lackadaisical pace and was inconsiderate of peoples time. It seemed like she took pride in the line backing up with frustrated customers while going slow and being meticulous. She inspected every inch of each shoe like she was a cobbler. This is the only negative review Ive written in a really long time, but felt compelled as this made me (and other customers) very frustrated. I love REI and shop here very often, but I wont be going to this tacoma location again.

I bought my bike here, and since they offer the first tune up free I brought it in a few weeks later. When I got my bike back, both the front and rear brakes (hydro disc) were rubbing, the drive train began making a horrid scaling sound intermittently, and the front hub now groans when turning. Now I am going to have to take it into Tacoma Bike and have them do a full overhaul for at least $240. Im not sure what the REI techs thought they were doing, but they essentially ruined my new bike.

A few years ago this store, and perhaps the company were drifting into pretty terrible, but not anymore.Today is an example. I walked in, immediately greeted and asked what Im looking for. Pointed in the right direction. Shortly thereafter, a guy comes and helps me pick out snow shoes, and he actually knew what he was talking about. Then, I needed some unique luggage pieces for camera/lighting storage, but I was looking in the wrong spot. An employee figured out what I needed and redirected me and not only did I find what I wanted, it was on sale at a great price. At check out a very energetic and courteous gal finished the transaction.Keep it up REI, this is how you do it.

He asked an associate, Jay, to unhook the jacket so he could try a size. Jay first said, cant you just scoot closer and try it on? He then said he would go get the magnet to open the lock and then never came back. Great store!!! I love gear, they have it and the knowledge to recommend what works and what does not. I have always had great shopping experiences here. Last week I purchased a set of Keen Revel boots. After wearing them in for a few days, I went back to the store to pick up something else and inquired if there was anything I could do about the uppers being a little stiff. I was told to wear them a little longer and if they did not soften up then they would be happy to swap them out for a boot that works better for me. No fuss no muss. Turns out the boot was fine, just sturdy. I completed the wear in process. 0 problems or complaints. It is nice to see a store that stands behind their products with that kind of enthusiasm. Well...after answering questions, listening to what I cant do in the store and being cautioned against just about everything because of COVID, I was finally let in to the store. Id never been before and I just wanted a Discover pass, a little treat for someone, and to check out some clearance tents if they had any--because I dont want to pay full price for something the person I was getting the pass for might lose interest in doing. Everything was going great--nice helpful employees and stuff, high prices, etc (which Id expected) until I said the word clearance then it was like I had the plague or something. I thought Id been teleported to Bellevue or something and labeled with not a tech with unlimited disposable income. I was dropped like a hot potato, told to check out Craigslist and left to find my way to the register where the 40$+ water bottles all sat in gleaming rows. As I stood in line with my expensive little treat, we were all yelled at by an employee for standing in a line that was not marked with tape. So we had to all move about ten feet to the real line. Whew. Bad experience all the way around. REI is way overrated.

Just had the absolutely most helpful sales associate experience at REI Tacoma. Kaitlin in the snowboard dept helped me find the right screws for my older Burton EST channel board. Apparently the channel inserts have been superseded and I was freaking out since I have plans to hit the slopes the next day. Kaitlin was reassuring and dug through bins for the right size fit (we went through quite a few)! Afterwards she helped me mount the bindings for the correct angles and width. Then she gave me a free wax on the board which I wasnt expecting. I later learned that she was actually supposed to be off work but stayed on later just to help me (this is on Saturday night). Exceptional stellar customer service hands down. I just cant say thank you enough for her friendliness and awesome customer service. I hope the managers at this location recognizes her for her outstanding service!!!
