This Ace Hardware is not your typical Ace. It is larger than any Ace in the San Francisco Bay Area. Its sells just about everything you need to build, decorate, clean, or repair a house, dress and play a sport, or work with your hands. It has a full paint department, auto parts, fishing, ammo, and gardening areas.Nice selection of mountain home/cabin decor for purchase. Good selection of brand name clothing, shoes, and accessories for the whole family. And high quality, tasteful Tahoe and Truckee decor and souvenirs to bring home or buy for friends and family.Huge parking lot. Another great store to find ski and winter sports clothing and equipment for the whole family (women, men, children, including toddlers).Good sales and after season sales when they happen.Staff is helpful and does make great recommendations.

This is the coolest hardware store Ive been in ! They have something for everyone! From cooking stuff to light fixtures! Wife would be happy while you shopped for what you need to fix the house. The service was amazing! You cant go wrong here. Its really really cool

Paint department team is so helpful and friendly. The male staff are very friendly and helpful. The cashiers could improve. The propane staff (friendly) and process of getting your propane tank refill is so convenient.

Everything in the store is overpriced when compared to Lowes and Home Depot. I was surprised to see that they are even more when you compare it to Truckee Tahoe Lumber Company.Most recently when trying to level the playing field by using their 20% coupon, they cancelled my order after I got my order confirmation.

This is one of the most interesting stores in the Truckee area! I enjoy browsing through all of the wonderful items available here. I believe Mountain Hardware in Truckee has an inviting melange of goods that will entice even the most jaded of shoppers. They literally carry everything from soup to nuts as well as every possible mechanical or building need! While Im not entirely sure about the food products, unless they are freeze-dried, which would make sense as a sales item considering the shopping area this store covers! Anyway...back on task...I wish to extend kudos for such a well-stocked store and its delightful, knowledgeable staff. Its no wonder we call it Mountain Macys lolI just bought a grill from Mtn Hardware, and it was an amazing experience! They assembled it and delivered it for free! They even brought it up to my 2nd story condo. I ordered a propane tank with it, and they filled it for free. They even hooked up the tank and gave me a few pointers. A great place with a variety of things including clothes.

Mountain hardware and sports sells a weird mixture of clothes, ski googles, and typical hardware store stuff. The space is a bit cramped, help is sometimes hard to find, but friendly and knowledgeable when you find it. The dual mission impacts the extensiveness of the hardware selection, but most common items in any category you can think of are available.

This place has it all! Everything a handy person, fisher person, camping person, or home improvement person would want! For real, it seems small from the outside, but they have it all (an isle dedicated to work boots!) In a clean, well stocked and organized store with a super friendly, energetic staff!

A great source for any project. Very helpful and knowledgeable staff.

Teeming with helpful staff who will find and bag tiny washers or advise you on putting in a dimmer switch. And lots of nice housewares. Yes, some are aimed at the cabin crowd (dishes with paintings of fish, etc., although I did have to buy a good-sized stuffed black bear to sit on the back of my sofa), but lots arent. Spoils you for other hardware stores.

The guys in the paint department are awesome. Every time I was there, they were busy with a handful of customers who were all waiting on paint or who needed to order paint and these guys demonstrated master-level retail tact and proficiency by keeping the order flow moving and keeping good communication with customers. In a situation where, quite often, you end up feeling like an antagonist, these guys actually made me feel good about being there and treated everyone with sincerity and urgency but with a calm and confident self-assurance. The whole store is great. Great vibes from the staff. They all just have the Tahoe energy I guess...

Fantastic assortment and variety in all departments, better hardware selection than Home Depot. In 20 years, they have had every strange and rare part Ive needed, except one... and they are great about ordering if they dont have it! Great paint department too.In addition, they carry all kinds of unique items for they whole house, from kitchen to bath to decorating to games and clothing and sports gear. Their fishing department is well stocked with all the local favorites (flies, lures, etc.).For a little mountain town hardware store, their prices are comparable to the big city and big box stores for most things. This is my home away from home.

Ace Hardware is a gem. You will sometimes be surprised and find things CHeAPeR than Amazon!I was just thinking about one time where I left the cashier after getting like $40 cash back - without the cash. Realized later, came back in and told them the issue and said I could come back tomorrow because I realize that it’s cash. And the mistake won’t show up till tomorrow. Anyhoo...the cashier right away knew she hadn’t given me the cash and the manager said “alright, here’s your cash!”. Just one of many awesome stories of their employees doing the tight thing for the customer.

I was driving through when there was mandated chains. I dont have chains, I thought those were only for buses and semis. The people at the store where super helpful and patient with a car novice like me. I didnt catch his name but one of the workers actually spent probably 30 min in the rain/ snow helping me put my chains on. I genuinely do not know what I would have done if it wasnt for him. Awesome customer service! I wish I knew his name so hed get some credit and a raise!

I am so in love with this store, not only because they carry absolutely everything above and beyond a hardware store should carry but the people are the nicest friendliest and most helpful people you can find! This store actually brings me joy. Is it odd for a woman to love nuts and screws? (Dont go there) Visit, if you have not yet... I feel so lucky to have this amazing co-op in my town. Literally the most helpful hardware or (any type of) store, ever. You can tell the staff members all truly care about everybody not only finding what they need but having answers and support for any questions about projects. Also kudos to the well displayed caring and conscientious signs for wearing masks during the pandemic.

Bought some plywood.Had them rip it for me. Either the blade was dull or he ripped it way too fast as there was significant tear-out. Guess that is the price of convenience!

Oddly enough in an emergency i had to get a boat plug. It Was very clean and and very well stocked. Its a relatively small store with way more inside then i expected . Once inside it was easy to navigate and the staff was extremely helpful.

Edit: December 1, 2020. I appreciate the quick response to my complaint below. It shows the usual customer service that I do receive when I visit the store, which is often. It may be the best and most unique Ace Hardware store I have seen. Thank you for your response and understanding. I will be by again in a few weeks! Back to a 5 star review!Usually my visits at Mountain Hardware are very good. But my last two visits this weekend were not so good. The first experience was with an employee escorting me to an area to purchase the tools to reseal the bath and shower. Wrong tools were shown. 2nd was yesterday at the checkout area. I experienced a grinch checking out. She must have had a bad day and was not very gracious. You see, the day before I was given a $5 bonus certificate for spending over $25. When I was to purchase yesterday, I presented my $5 certificate and she said it was not good until December. That was not very clear on the certificate. Then I said it looks like I earned another $5 bonus on this transaction. She said no... the pre tax purchase was $23.60 and the after tax was just over $25. Since my pre tax was under she said no. She could have suggested to purchase 2 of the $1 candies at the check stand, but did not or just be a friendly cashier/ owner and be in the spirit to give me the $5 bonus. I am a repeat customer and you would think you would want to keep me happy and to keep spending money. This weekends experience deserves no more than 3 stars.

Friendly and helpful staff.

Very unhappy with their overall service, I was told Tuesday to come back Friday when they get their shipment of pvc pipe fittings stocked to only hear They don’t want to look thru inventory to assist me. This is a store more oriented into serving Karen from the bay cabin decor then helping out locals who need hardware for an important job at hand. When I spoke with management they gave me a nice rude attitude about how they’re over worked and are not going to help me either, nonetheless another Tahoe store with lazy and rude employees. Funny, because I bought a $875 traeger pro 575 last month from them and they couldn’t wait to help me load it. Weird how money here effects customers service

A great store, with every sort of hardware and gear, including the sought after Scandinavian forest axe I had been looking for. But the true star of this hardware store is the employees. Friendly, easy to talk to, and fun. Ill admit to loitering just so I could talk with them a little longer.

Terrible store doesn’t even provide masks for paying customers then gives you an attitude after you told them you’ve been fully vaccinated never coming back.

I hate this place with a special passion.The employees are fine, but the store organization and upper management just ruin it for me. I can never find anything Im looking for without asking for help. I dont like the way were funneled through like animals and not really presented the luxury to enjoy our time there like regular people.If they did not have a geographical monopoly I would never shop there. Unfortunately, it is the only place in Truckee where I know to get a fishing license or specialty tools. I wish CVS still sold fishing licenses.If I have the time, I will absolutely go 30-45 minutes out of my way to shop at another store in Reno.

This store has everything you could need for your house in the mountains. Boats, guns, clothes, hammers etc. If you want to build something or need to do some home fixing, ace will have what you need for sure. Everyone here is very kind and friendly and some of the best staff Ive every encountered. Never go to another hardware store again.

Very friendly staff and everything you need

This is by far one of my favorite stores in Truckee. You can get pretty much anything here and their service is second to none. When you walk in the front door theres always an employee waiting to ask if they can help you find something. Because of that, its always my fastest errand of the day. That is, unless I see some cool apparel that I have to investigate. You can get everything from kitty litter to wall patches and paint. Theres even a full service lumber yard and propane refill station on site. If you need to rent equipment, Truckee Rents is now owned and operated by Ace (location near West River Street about 5 min away). Ive never met an employee that wasnt super knowledgeable and helpful. Love love love our local Ace.

Very nice store friendly people lots of stuff inside. Im always amazed at the inventory. Seems like no matter what I need they have it. Snow Chains are sold here, they have fishing tackle, tire repair kits, paint, aircompressor parts, dog toys, electronic cables, and lots more thats just the stuff Ive needed since being up here. I will definately use this as my first go to place for my needs. The staff is awsome theyre very friendly and helpful.
