My sister and I specifically visited this coop on our long road trip. Shortly after we entered, a male employee called out to us saying laddiieesss in a disappointed tone. We stopped, and another female employee came holding two masks and said we need to wear them. We told them we cant and its discrimination. she responded that it is their store policy. I pointed out it is not a law and asked some other questions, and she abruptly told us to leave. Instead of having a conversation with us or even asking if we had a medical exemption, they denied us service. They discriminate and dont care to have a real human interaction. No decency, no integrity. Will never go back. Whats the point of being a health food cooperative when neither health nor cooperation is believed in. They didnt show us their written policy or handle this kindly. Its all a joke. They call themselves common Ground but it was their way or get out. Its a real shame watching people blindly follow orders and enforce inhumane immortal unlawful policies and procedures. Humanity needs to wake up and knock this cowardice off. We will not not be treated like second class citizens by people who choose not to think for themselves. By complying with policies like this you are oppressing us all. They can only enforce this because the majority of customers are complacent. Silence is concent.
Common Ground is an amazing place to have in our community. I highly recommend becoming an owner for all the fantastic owner deals and the recently introduced Radish Rewards. Its a $60 commitment for lifetime ownership and worth every penny. Even if youre not an owner, the deals and sales they have are worth it for the quality of food youre going to find here. Its honestly fun just to see what you can find! The staff is always amazing, and knowledgeable about their items. The facility is extremely clean, always smells nice, and is well organized as well as being a comfortable temperature all year round. The local selection of items is very impressive. This is sustainable shopping, done right. The café has a nice selection of food and drinks, all very good, fairly priced. In addition to this, there is a grab and go area, of ready made items that can be very handy.I also love that they are so heavily involved in the community, they often have the option to round up at the register to benefit different charities, and they showcase local art in the porch area right outside the store.I am so proud to have this grocery store as a part of my town!
Love Common Ground! They have everything we ever need. We always go Saturday mornings after the farmers market. The place is clean, the employees are friendly, and the produce is FRESH. Always recommend.
LORD HAVE MERCY. I bought some ooey gooey cookies from them a day ago and they were the best thing that have ever graced my mouth. WHERE HAVE THESE BEEN ALL MY LIFE. I FEEL BRAND NEW. PLEASE NEVER GET RID OF THEM. The gates of heaven were calling my name and I felt the presence of the lord. Amen.
If you need anything organic or healthy, this is the store to get it. If they dont have it, they can order it for you. Very pleased
I always have a great experience at common ground! Food is wonderful, staff is awesome and people are nice! I especially love the bulk section where I can shop more sustainably. ❤️
TL;DR: longtime happy member now extremely happy with (and dependent on) curbsideAs members, weve loved Common Ground Co-op for a long, long time. But their dedication to curbside throughout the COVID pandemic is what finally pushed me to review.Their selection is excellent for such a relatively small space with a number of local, organic and Co-op Basics options. Online ordering is straightforward, updated daily (at least, or so it seems to me) and curbside employees are dedicated to fulfilling your order as best as then can. Changemakers (i.e. staff) are generally wonderful, and have dedicated themselves to empathetic safety standards throughout this health crisis. It is, in fact, one of the few places Ive been thats truly enforced proper mask wearing. I feel more safe running in here than any other local establishment.
Exceptional quality peanut butter, vegetarian bowls, organic produce, and soups. I like this store.
The Co-op has great options for bulk purchases and there is a cafe. The cafe offers sandwiches and I usually grab a slice of pizza while shopping.Additionally, a lot of products are eco-friendly. There are cool handmade items like soap products. I don’t drink a lot but there is also a large variety of wines.Overall, I recommend you become a co-op owner so you can support local businesses!
Always enjoy stopping in. Great selections and the staff are always super friendly and helpful with product information.
Great selection of vegetarian and vegan options! Their in house overnight oats are delicious!!
Love this place. Great vegan food.
Great specialty store. Organic and more
Nice place and friendly people
Great selection of organic, vegan, and gluten free foods. The store is small but has everything youd need. There are a lot of local produce and brands available and a lot of things you may not find elsewhere. Staff is friendly and energetic. Well definitely be coming back.
Wonderful local produce, alternative and herbal supplements, lots of organic, vegan and gf options. A cafe, wine and beer selections. A local gem!
I like this store because I can always find good organic products, vegetables and meat of great quality.
This for profit business is a template for success for any community. Copy it. They support LOCAL FARMERS, give to vote upon non profits 100% (no admin fees), and so much more. During this Pandemic they have adapted and prospered. Online ordering, curbside pick up, bulk buying, LOTS OF TOGO FOOD OPTIONS FROM SUSHI TO CARRIBIAN TO IN HOUSE FRESH LOCAL ROAST BEEF SANDWICHES AND VEGAN PIZZA, you dont have to be a member to shop, but it is cheaper, if you need to buy strategically to sale days. 50lb bags of bulk items, to fancy face cream they got it. And on sale days, sometimes beat Aldis and Meijers on price. Bulk spices- you only buy what the recipe calls for, so its fresh.
There is fresh baked bread made daily and they do have curbside pickup.
I enjoy shopping here, their natural organic health and beauty department is wonderful.
This was a great place to see and visit. The quality and service were great. The variety of choice items was much appreciated and healthy food alternatives. Take advantage of this gem whenever you can and do some good for the community while getting some groceries.
The definition of good vibes and fresh breads
Common Ground is always a great place to shop!
Wonderful grocery store that has ethical products and ingredients. Its a good place to stock up on hard to find items or specialty products, but I would not do the bulk of my shopping here.Their pizza, sandwiches and drinks are really great too.
This is the best place in town for fresh, local produce When Im making anything with vegetables or when I need fresh fruit, this is where I go. They also have a fantastic selection of freshly made deli items like sandwiches, burritos, soups, pies and even full meals. Most of the meats are also local. It is a little expensive to shop here but they have a lot of stuff you cant get at any other grocery store and you know youre helping the local economy. The staff is always very pleasant and helpful.
Such a lovely store. Awesome produce (local and organic), nice selection of local meats, and very tasty prepared soups and foods. It has a large bulk food selection including peanut and almond butter grinders. Never experienced freshly made nut butters on demand at a grocery store before. Great resource for healthy cooking and has a nice small part of the shop dedicated to organic less commonly found health and beauty items.
Locally grown organic foods, well maintained store with great selection. A person could spend more time than expected looking over the unique items in the store. Produce is amazing.
Lots of great local produce and products available. Tons of delicious items made in the store, plus fresh bakery items from local bakers. For anyone wishing there was a Whole Foods around, this is where you should go!
People are friendly, meats are clean, price is super good
I love Common Ground. They have amazing local organic produce as well as a large variety of specialty items as well. From supplements to make up and craft beer to kombucha. My husband and I go on date night for dessert, recognizable ingredients and they taste incredible.
This co-op has really grown over the years and is really fantastic! It costs $60 to become a member and does support the co-op and you get nice discounts. They have a great selection of local, organic and gluten free foods. The breakfast sandwiches are superb and the butternut squash/caramelized onion pizza is a must-have!!!
Great food and fresh produce!Frequent discounts to keep an eye out for.Save money and materials by bringing your own containers and bags.Common ingredients are charged by weight.Freshly ground peanut and almond butter.Friendly employees.Great atmosphere.Best coffee bean selection.Delicious food and soup for takeout.Typically more pricey than supermarket chains.I personally avoid their beer/liqueur.
This place is wonderful! The vegan coffee cake is my favorite. Go see Shelby at the bakery she is always willing to help.
Common Ground is the local, natural foods co-op.Most of its food is locally sourced and all organic. A great place to sample goods from local dairies or vinyards without leaving town. They have a classroom with a kitchen for classes and programs. Remember to bring a tote when you visit.
Great local and friendly coop that doesnt require a membership within the coop to shop here.
This place is awesome! It has so much great food. Lots of specialty items to which are really tasty! Staff is super friendly and the samples are nice too!
Great place to pick up groceries, a quick bite to eat, or some coffee. Great salad bar and sandwiches. Diverse selection of local produce, meats, cheeses, breads, and more. Large selection of local beer and wine, too.
Superb food. Its expensive food, but the prices are fair and no ones getting rich from systematic over-pricing (like some well known food markets are known to do). An excellent, well priced wine selection, the best meats and dairy products, and a lot of bulk bins with grains and spices makes for an awesome, well provisioned kitchen. They do cooking classes too. If youre not up for cooking, they have various salads and sandwiches which can be made to order or soups and salads which are prepared. Watch the fruit prices closely, some of them can be quite expensive and Im sure they are good, but you may want to decide for yourself whether its worth it.
Usually just come here for the coffee selection and bulk grains. Always end up with a cart full of stuff I wasnt expecting to buy. Love the Co-op!
Always awesome! Community feel, healthy choices, friendly staff, welcoming and warm environment. I love the mission of the coop and the concern and support of a variety of causes. I am so glad to be an owner!!!!
Small store but Good/great quality, and their bakery Goods and soups are simply Outstanding. Everything about CG is remarkable. Small operation, but a very good one.
Great local coop. Nice deli. Clean store. Friendly staff. Lots of parking. Demonstration kitchen. Delicious coffee. Fresh local produce.
I was able to easily find an herbal syrup I needed. It can be expensive. But I appreciate that they make staples affordable.
Enjoyed shopping here. Healthy products with many vegan options. Very eco friendly options also. Love the local stuff and vegan soaps!
Its very, very expensive to shop here. I really cant afford it. Everyone is very nice and there is a good selection of bulk food. Not paying $14 a pound for trail mix!
I like Common Ground because of the guarunteed quality of the products. Everyone (workers) is generally kind and wants you to be there. One thing i would note is that you have to pay for the quality, meaning things may get a bit expensive. Also, there is a certain brand of people that this place attracts, so be prepared to feel a bit out of place if you dont usually go there.
My favorite natural foods store in Bloomington Normal. They have the best bulk foods section in town by far! Check out the dolmas in the back cooler. And the fresh deliveries of Grandpas Gluten free bread. And the people are amazing! I love this store!
Absolutely amazing! I am kind of obsessed with food and this is probably the coolest grocery store Ive ever visited. The selection of truly healthy and local foods was impressively extensive. We live in Bloomington but have decided to make regular trips down to shop here from now on
I really like this store. We’ve been co-op owners for over 15 years and are amazed at how its grown as the needs of the community have grown.
Love this store primarily because of the hometown shopping experience. Everything else about it is also great 👍
I really like the products here. I learned about products I didnt even know existed. I wish they had a co-ops where I am from! Great concept, great place, unique things. I also appreciate the late hours.
Amazing vegan Rueben sandwiches! And a decent size selection of vegan treats and cheeses i cant find in other stores in the champaign area
I love that they sell items in bulk so I can use my own glass jars. They have beans, rice, pasta, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion, and much more
Best grocery store in Urbana. Beer and wine options are also well-researched. I always find good stuff there
Update: they re-dropped the almond croissants! My friends and I went at least once a week just for those. Oh well. I also like the challah and the ciabatta. The salad bar and soups are a good option when you want something fresh and homemade-feeling. Many local and nearby iterations of vegetables, eggs, meat, diary+cheese(s), alcohol beverages.
It is a cooperatively owned whole foods kind of place. Becoming an owner is fairly cheap. Non owners can also shop
My go-to place for quality hot soup, fresh bread, flourless chocolate cake slices (!!), chana masala grab-n-go meal (good, filling, tasty!), bulk tofu, quality fair-trade coffee beans (grinder onsite), & bulk dry self-serve foodstuffs. No membership needed to shop here, but it saves you a few percent if you do have one.Has a commercial grade kitchen available for rent (start your culinary empire here!)
Very nice environment friendly store with good quality fresh produce and grains.
Locally grown and organic food. One of my favorite grocery stores.
The total best. Greatest ever. Nothing could beat it. Well except if everything were free.
The higher the quality, the fewer the trips... Briefly put, simpler foods burn longer after youve detoxed from the norm. It more than offsets any costs for higher-quality; especially when you consider how much you save due to fewer pharmaceutical trips (gas) and purchases.
Nice fresh organic vegetables today as always. Just ate the zucchini we got this morning. Sliced and steamed for 7 minutes. Tastes just like I picked it from the garden.
They have a list of needed items (salt, milk, eggs, toilet paper etc.) that are always really affordable, even comparable to major grocers prices, but much higher quality. They have a ton of amazing vegetarian options. Snacks, ice cream, frozen dinners, bread, pastas; if they sell it they probably have a vegetarian version for sale too. They sell made to order sandwhiches and pizza which are really good but a a bit expensive. Half the menu is vegan so even more choices for all you vegans out there. The fruit and vegetables are seasonal and really fresh, I try to get all of my produce there. Its a great co op, tons of healthy options and they even sell a good bit of stuff like oats and (fresh ground!) peanut butter in bulk. Great deals every week and even more deals if you become and owner
Its the closest thing that Champaign-Urbana-Savoy has to a Whole Foods... And it doesnt disappoint. The food is wonderful. The prices are a little expensive, but thats because they pay their employees well, so I cant complain. They raise money for charities, too. And they do sell membership, which gets you discounts on certain days.
Good place and that older bearded guy in the deli is the greatest deli clerk I have ever seen.
Great found everything I need
A great place to stop for a good cup of coffee, but its way too pricey to go shopping here.
One of my favorite places. I trust the co-op to source food and other goods as ethically as is practicable.
Great place to get health food. Friendly helpful employees
Local co-op, huge bulk foods section, great natural health and beauty section, tons of local suppliers.
Great selection and very helpful staff. Has a great choice of specialty teas as well!
Organic, local & regional produce, sustaining our local economy. Staff is friendly and truly caring.
One of my favorite places to shop! Great organic food!
I love their beer and sushi selection (so much better than the boxed sushi you can get at Schnucks). Their vegetables and meats are clearly of high quality. There are also a few CBD treats for a couple bucks. My one main criticism is that theres only one tempeh product; its just a big block for 10 bucks and I wish there were other premade tempeh items that I could buy.
Great products! I love that they sell local products
Great products and great people! I shop here every week for specialty food items and bulk spices.
Another anchor of the Champaign-Urbana community! Local food sources, amazing variety not found anywhere else in town. Staff is paid a living wage and this place is owned by members. What an awesome place!
Good stop on our road trip! Had all kinds interesting products…
Common ground is known for organic products and here I buy organic shampoos and toothpastes for my family. Also, I buy their local organic eggs once a week.
Love this place. Super friendly people and they have healthy items.
Absolutely fantastic staff, food is fresh and tastes amazing, I love love love the salad bar and dressings!!!
Love this grocery store! Love that they carry local foods.
I love this place their soups are awesome, fresh local produce such as eggs and meats. They make their own PB and almond butter as well as great selection of organic coffee from all over the world.
Common Ground is not only a natural and organic grocery, but has an awesome salad bar, soup, and sanwich shop.
Nice store but youll definitely pay a premium for your food. Fantastic for organic, locally grown, non-gmo, etc. Great CU community place
This is an incredible place to shop for food and you can also join, it also has great pizza .
Centerpiece of marketplace mall for the last 5 years at least. They have a great salad bar, great everything really....
Best food store in CU. Prices can be a little high and I wish they had better member benefits, but its pretty worth it. Also great coffee and sandwiches
Staff is friendly and willing to help you find what you need.
I was an overweight, diabetic, hypertensive, with high cholesterol! Something had to give! So I was introduced to a plant-based diet and many of the ingredients are hard to find but not at the Common Ground Co-OP. Working well off of my diabetes meds, BP under control and cholesterol is down!
Nice selection of goods. Staff were very helpful too.
We may not have a Trader Joes in our community, but we do have Common Ground & their very helpful employees. The lady in the deli section makes a killer grilled cheese!
They are pricey but pay their employees well. They also have a selection of staple foods that they sell at or just above cost for folks who dont have the ability to pay $7 for chips. They also offer workshops about food that are inexpensive to sign up for, or free if youre broke as a joke.
This is a down right amazing co-op that will give you quality supplies and not break the bank.
Pricey but nice products and staff
Great Brazilian Black Bean soup. Cookies are the best
