I decided to get a quote from CarMax on selling an extra vehicle I had. I liked the quote and schedule an appointment. Friendly staff, clean atmosphere and excellent service! Would come back for a wonderful experience.
The sales staff was cooperative and not pushy at all. The price was right(Believe me I compared.) The paperwork went quickly and overall we are pleased with the car - 2018 Subaru Outback.However the car detailing appeared very rushed. There was dirt in many cracks and corners. I mentioned it before pickup and was assured it would be handled. This was never done. When I folded the back seat down, that area had never been touched as was obvious by the huge stripe of sand? in the crack. The cargo mat and cargo cover were also missing, which should have been mentioned upfront. There was no consideration made for that in the price of the car.
What a joke both times wait time was well over 2 hrs and they compared their service to a doctors office if I continue my words will turn colorful. Asked to speak to a manager both times I feel like if they traded a manager with literally any job you could think of, you would get better results. It was a scriptures response I can’t imagine anyone getting a different experience it’s painful to watch and be a part of I would rather have both of the children in front of me screaming with explosive diarrhea then be pained to have to be here any longer. FML

This place is so disorganized, the staff has little to no idea what is going on or how to handle “situations” when they arise. Buying a car from here was the worst experience in my life and it’s still been a struggle trying to get the maintenance down on the vehicle that they claimed was “done” prior to picking the vehicle up.

Selling my car was the easiest experience Ive ever had selling a car. The offer was great, the salesman was friendly and professional, and all I had to do was sit back and watch. It didnt take long. They cancelled my registration and gave me the plates. Then they issued a check for more than I paid for the car -- and paid off the balance of my payments with my bank. It couldnt have been easier. I recommend Carmax to anyone who wants to sell a car, and I hear that buying is easy too. The offices are bright and clean, the staff is pleasant and the waiting room is comfortable. My sales rep handled everything and then we reviewed everything on the screen and printed out everything I need for records and town tax department. I couldnt be more pleased.

This was the first time I bought a car where there was no haggling. It is a very nice experience. The salesperson took his time and reviewed the car and answered all our questions. The day after purchasing we took the car to our own mechanic and he confirmed that the car was in excellent shape. Overall a very nice experience.
I gave it two stars only because they gave me a good offer on my trade in BUT for everything else TERRIBLE 👎. Beware if your trading in your car make sure whoever is the lender it is open. I had to go back home ( an hour and half drive one way) and come back the next day Even though you submit all the paperwork that is needed for finance and gets approved they still rerun the application and ask for everything. It’s no different then going through a dealer, hours! And trying to get through the Waterbury location is even impossible. I’ve been trying to talk to someone in accounting/finance about the payoff check and nothing, even customer service can’t get through. JUST CRAZY! Buyers beware! Go to Carvana if you don’t have a trade in its Easy breezy with Carvana. My husband purchased his car through Carvana best overall experience but if you have a trade in then CarMax is the way to go they offer a better amount for your trade BUT beware of the headache. Overall bad experience!!
I recently bought a 2017 Honda CR-V from Carmax in Waterbury CT. The staff was very polite and apologetic as I was waiting to talk to the staff member to buy the car. Debbie sold me the car and was fantastic! She was very thorough and spent a lot of time with me explaining every form I signed and then how to operate everything in the car. When we ran into a glitch with selling my car to them, they quickly figured out what was happening so that the sale could go through. I was happy with the amount they paid me for my very old car. The team there was really supportive of each other and helped each other out. I had a fantastic experience and would definitely go back there to buy another car!
Nice and friendly, even to go as far as to offer a bottle of nice cold water. The second I found what I wanted to test drive online, I was in contact with someone to set up a test drive time and date. They even hold your tested/saved vehicle and come up with a timeline of when they can make it happen by. Everything seen online and in store was the same. I like that there are no hidden fees, what you see online is what you will pay. Nice open lot with plenty of used vehicles to purchase which is why I was there. Plenty of parking for the customers current car while shopping. Clean and well kept up customer areas of the store. After purchase they even gased it up full the car I bought and gave it one last car wash to make it sparkle. Nice job CarMax. Would definitely be back to purchase my next vehicle for sure!!!
Not a good experience. Took forever 3 weeks to buy car, then car now has break issues wen getti g of highway and stepping on break 55mph shakes bad clearly needs break work and carmax told me they do a 121point inspection. I dont think they did. Disappointing

Picked up car. Ran car for less than 2 weeks. Car just didn’t feel right. Took it to the local dealer (not CarMax) that works on these cars. and the front brake caliper fell out in the dealers lot before he could take it for a test drive (The CarMax tech forgot to tighten it while working on it before I picked it up). Has a host of other issues to the tune of $4500. Returning this one to them for a refund. We will see how that goes.
Paid $200.00 to have a car moved from Maryland to Waterbury and called multiple times after it arrived to see it. I was told to come in Monday and we would have it all set. I did and it took a very long time to get the car. When they did it had some flaking paint on the matte black area above the door. I didnt notice it, they did and they said they would fix it and come back Wednesday. I called Wednesday not ready. They said to come back Friday. I called and my salesman was out. I got some nationwide call center and got a guy working from home because I could hear his kid making noise in the background. I explained the whole thing and then he asked me to repeat the whole thing because he wasnt listening obviously. I have no problem with those who need to work from home (I have 4 kids I know how it is) but you have to WORK from home. Then I found my salesmans cell phone number. Good thing I called. He had no intentions of calling me. I got his cell and he said he would see what he could do. It was his day off. Never heard from him again. Bought a car elsewhere in Danbury in one day and glad I did. It was a better deal anyway. Lost my $200.00 for transferring the car.

Horrible experience, did entire application process and all financial portion over the phone so it was out of the way and would take less time. Had the vehicle transferred to a closer location, was told the condition of the body, inside and everything else before it was shipped. When it arrived to the closer location. The condition of the vehicle was completely opposite of what was said, I had to redo the entire application and financial portion over again because nothing was saved or done correctly. Very disappointed with my experience at CarMax.

We had our online quote and he wasted no time making sure we got what we were offered. He had us in and out so fast! He made the whole process so easy. Having retired from the automotive industry after 35 years, I was aware of some of the tricks played by some dealers upon buying or selling a car. My initial inclination was to hang a For Sale sign in the car window. My sister suggested I try Carmax and some other companies online.I honestly answered the easy questions with each company and they each responded with an offer within minutes. The Carmax offer was considerably higher so I arranged to visit their store within the time frame listed on the offer.Upon arrival, I was greeted and told an associate would be with me shortly. It took a bit longer than I anticipated but with no appointment, I didnt feel I could expect more.An associate sat down with me with a few questions about my car and looked at my completed online survey and said some of their representatives would look over the car.Upon returning, he stated that the car was as I described it in my online survey and the offer was good if I desired to go ahead and sell them the car. I agreed.After a while, the associate returned with paperwork to sign along with my check for the full amount originally quoted. When I asked to remove some personal items from the car, he brought me to where the car had been taken and I found my license plates along with a few possessions neatly placed in a clean Carmax shopping bag.I found the entire deal to be easy, honest, and complete. I would recommend anyone selling a car to give Carmax a try. Theyll be pleasantly surprised.

Once we were with him, things went smoothly and fairly quickly.We were given the amount quoted online, license plates were canceled, and a check was given. Total time was about 1.5 hours from walking in the door to walking out the door.I would definitely use CarMax again in a heartbeat.Socially distanced seating, cleaning chairs between customers, very friendly staff!!

This was terriable for me I chose a car that was offered to me for a test drive from the Waterbury location n it had no breaks completely unsafe to drive n when I told the rep n he had a service tech look at it n said yup the breaks are gone she needs new when I took the jeep home it still had the vibration of somthing wrong n days later I found out there was a hole in the exhaust…. So I went back to CarMax Hartford n the rep Sarah I started with (who is the best sales rep I have ever had she makes u feel so comfortable in buying a car) but then there had a worse experience with the vehicle I got all excited cuz I found my rogue that was totaled 1 month before and I jus had to have it. So I gave back the jeep to get the rogue everything seemed fine but only 2 hrs after owning the car it began to smoke n learned after bringing it right back the breakers seized up n needed new tires…. At this point I really don’t want to buy from them but my rep she really is that unique I’m going to give this rogue a chance with the problems fixed and hope for the best but for experience I give a 1out of 10 n sales rep I give her a 20 out of 10

Hello, I just recently sold my Nissan Altima at Car MAX. The experience was better than I thought. This is a better way to go than dealing with strangers trying to buy your car. They look at your car buy it then your out the door no hassels. If your looking to get rid of your car then going there the best way to go.

He introduced me to Wayne, who was also beyond professional, accommodating and sure knew how to keep busy. I was then introduced to Debbie, who ultimately helped me make this the experience that this was. I was looking for a very specific car (Volvo C30) and initially had tried purchasing a 2013 model from Carvana. After multiple delivery days, and even having the car listed with the incorrect transmission I was about ready to give up on my quest to find this car.Lucked out and saw Carmax had a 2013 with only 37k miles located in their Colorado Springs store. Initially I was a little gun shy to go forward with the purchase but one of their sales team members contacted me and let me know how the process of delivery would work. Even went as far to take down info about the type of car I was looking for to see if he could find something similar closer to Connecticut so the shipping fees would be cheaper. I think at that moment I knew the customer service was already 1000x better then what I dealt with at Carvana.Finally pulled the trigger on the Volvo and said lets do it. It shipped on 7/1 and they let me know it would take 2-3 weeks to come in. It actually arrived early on 7/15. It did take a few days to get the emissions cleared but once it was done on 7/22 the process for sale went super quick.I have to give a huge shout out to Waterbury, CT rep Brian. He was incredibly friendly and helpful with getting my credit pushed through and making sure the car was 100% to my liking when I arrived. The whole sales process took about an hour but honestly it didnt even feel like that. He made sure to get everything handled and really did a fantastic job explaining the entire Carmax process of how they get your APR scores, how the emission works (its offsite), and honestly it all just felt great to work with him getting the sale finalized.Hopped in the car to leave to take it home and the moment I drove it out to the parking lot I knew the wait was 100% worth it. The car even being an 8 year old machine is in top shape and I am extremely pleased with the entire process and the Carmax team. They took care of my permanent plates and registration within almost less then 2 weeks. They took care of the whole DMV process and overnighted me the info which I received this past Wednesday.I cant say enough positive things about the Carmax team in Waterbury, CT. Id say this to people who may have second thoughts. KNOW WHAT YOU WANT. Do the research and know about the car you want to buy. Carmax was able to help me finally get what was basically a dream car for me and I would use them again. May never go to a regular deal again honestly.
Made an appointment at 3:30 - someone finally came over to us at 5:00 - an hour and a half late. There were a lot of employees standing around but I guess they dont actually help customers. Once an associate came over to us the process was pretty quick.
Quick and smooth it was truly unbelievable I sold my Cadillac and I got the best price of all the other online retailers.they cut me a check on the spot my buddy drove me home. I was out of there in an hour and a half.

Apps was really cool with nice videos of the cars and details about the vehicles. I ordered the car I wanted online and everything was done in 30 minutes. BUT after a week nobody, no text nor email to inform me about my order. I called, texted and finally they said the car was ready. The CarMax experience in store was terrible. Staff does not know how to use the system and everything was done old fashion, printing papers and last minute they realized they have not checked my DMV registration. They realized I was not in the system and they had to process it the next day!! Got the car 5 days later after a total of 12 hours traveling twice to the store. The car is great.

Once I got in the store and was ready to purchase the car, the entire process took entirely too long. Once I signed on the dotted line they could doubled up on some of the other task such as cleaning and gassing the car, putting on the license plates, and completing the registration.

Although I had an appointment at 1:30 PM I had to wait a little over half an hour to actually sit down with a representative. This is a problem due to a lack of staffing since many companies are not able to hire the people they need due to the large benefits available when you’re not working.All of the staff were very pleasant and the representative I spoke to was very knowledgeable and cordial professional in every way.I had gotten an online estimate before going to Carmax and after evaluating the car I was given the amount from my online estimate in full.Due to the car shortage and very high prices for used cars I could have of course sold my car for more than what Carmax paid me but it was a seamless easy process so it made sense to me.Carmax handled all of the paperwork and it was an enjoyable hassle free experience.

Car was not ready for pick up after I called two times to let them know when I would be there to pick it up. Also, on the way home the check engine light came on with low coolant warning. Obviously this car was not checked over prior to sale and whatever process they use to verify vehicles are in working order is broken. Expansion tank had no coolant in it. I had to take this car to the dealer for repairs the day after I took delivery. All the repairs were covered under warranty but the closest dealer is 1hr away from my home. The managers response to not having the car ready and me having to transport the car back and forth from the dealer for warranty repairs was to offer $100 to get the car detailed. The dealer who I didn’t purchase the car from treated me far better. CarMax could care less if I was happy so long as they were happy by moving a car off their lot.
Best car buying experience I have ever had. When car shopping you anticipate being bombarded by every car salesman once you walk in the door, but at CarMax, it was on your terms. Walking in, youre simply asked what brings you there and whether it is to shop, trade in, or whatever there is ZERO pressure. They allow you to stroll through their lot and when YOURE ready you go in, speak to someone and the rest is history. We test drove a vehicle and being so indecisive I could not make up my mind, seeing they offered the 24hr test drive I inquired and it was as simple as signing a paper and drove away. I did not end up with that vehicle, but knowing that we can take our trade in check to any CarMax, we found a vehicle in the Waterbury store. Instead of waiting a week, we drove the hour & 1/2 and loved the vehicle! Unfortunately we could not do the rmv stuff because it was CT and we live in MA (some misinformation was provided by the CarMax call center saying we could do RMV but unfortunately it was not correct). Both Angel and Pat were so very helpful at the Waterbury CarMax throughout the whole process! I cannot say enough good things about those two individuals, really made a frustrating point in the process 10x better; and because we were there so late they offered to pay for our dinner (send the receipt for compensation)...well we stopped at McDonalds.. 🤪 and didnt bother sending it lol! CarMax is so flexible and is allowing us to deal with our local CarMax in Westboro, so we do not have to travel 1.5hrs to Waterbury. I have so many good things to say, Ill run out of room. Ive been having a great experience! This will be my first time buying a car off the lot. Carmax made everything so easy. The selection of vehicles is great. I love the fact that you can have cars shipped to Waterbury from other states, most times for free!! The sales people and other staff are so helpful, great people to work with. One woman from the business office even gave my son a coloring book while we waited. There is hand sanitizer everywhere. They clean the seats and desk after each appointment. The place isnt usually crowded. The staff is also very honest, about EVERYTHING; which I can appreciate. Im impressed. The vibes are good inside Carmax.
My fiance and I came here to trade in out vehicle. Their service was very nice despite covid restrictions because we were out of state. Even though we had to come back and finish our transaction another day, they were very helpful. Id go here again.
We had a 2 day experience at carmax in Waterbury. One day to view the car and maks a decision, second day to process financing. Both days all the members of the team were friendly and attentive. I have to commend the sales associate that finalized our deal. I knew it would be a process and we did arrive later than planned in the day. I never thought it wouldve taken as long as it did, but that was my fault. He stayed after hours to process everything and wrap up our purchase. He was calm and kind, even while our 3 kids were being as obnoxious as possible. I would recommend carmax to anyone, couldnt be happier!

UPDATED REVIEW!!!!! This location is equivalent to having sleep paralysis it’s a nightmare I can’t wake up from. This is my 4th time financing a vehicle, not from a dealership that sells a specific brand and I’ve never experienced a train wreck like this one. Please allow me to share my experience Saturday I was involved in an accident that resulted in a total loss and a crunch for time to find a new vehicle within a week per progressive insurance. The same day I applied for a transfer for a Mercedes-Benz from the Norwood location to Waterbury, that night I was contacted by email assuring me the car was still available for purchase. Sunday via phone call I completed a finance application, I was approved and assured the car would arrive at the Waterbury location by Wednesday. In my attempt to be proactive and make the buying process close to seamless I called my personal insurance agent to contact the Waterbury location to start my insurance binder. However, I was then informed by the manager Patrick they weren’t aware of a transfer and assured me he’d give me a call back with any updates. After not receiving a call back I decided to visit the location hours after the initial phone call where I then found out the car I had requested Saturday was in Warwick Rhode Island due to an individual that had requested a transfer on Monday and was in the process of purchasing the vehicle. I was beyond crushed and frustrated. Within an hour after leaving the dealership I received a phone call from Patrick who assisted me in looking for similar options we found another Mercedes-Benz with less than flattering interior than the initial one and more mileage. However, I agreed to a transfer where he assured me it would arrive by 12 pm on Wednesday. On Wednesday after not receiving a phone call I arrived at the Waterbury location at 1 where I was informed that the vehicle was there. However, the systems were down and couldn’t input vehicles that were transferred ultimately resulting in me not being able to purchase the vehicle. I was compensated with a full tank of gas in my rental and a car wash which doesn’t suffice all the headache I’ve been experiencing. Please save yourself and visit a more reputable location I’m hoping for a happier ending and will update the review, for now, I’m still trapped in this nightmare.Update: Dan in the Waterbury office is the man! Great sales man, honest about the process and, doesn’t BS in which I honor. I’m happy to report that I purchased the Mercedes-Benz Gla from the Waterbury location and had a better experience. After countless apologies from management and staff I genuinely felt like my frustration mattered. Despite the beginning process I received exceptional customer service and would recommend this location. The day after purchasing my vehicle I received a call from the manager Patrick who extended a generous offer to reimburse me for a nice dinner for the inconvenience. Being a food connoisseur I couldn’t turn the offer down and I’m greatful that I gave this place another chance.

I was very happy with my overall experience. At the time, I was also happy that they decided to supply me with a new bed cover for the truck I purchased because the one in the pictures online clearly had one and when the truck arrived it was missing. I was somewhat annoyed that the one they gave me was not the one in the picture but a cheaper version. I’m not one to complain, but a lower quality cover was not what I wanted and not what I would have bought. If they wanted to fix this, I would say my experience in Waterbury WAS awesome!

Russell took care of us and handled everything very well. He even went on the state DMV website and cancelled the registration on the car we were selling.

Excellent experience! I had to travel to Waterbury to pick up the car because i was outside the 60 mile delivery radius and in New York. I like the presentation of the dealership. The staff and sales manager were very friendly. Answered all my questions and no pressure upsales. I was there for only 45 mins tops including the test drive. Keep in mind that I started my purchase process online prior and sent my documentation online as well. The online process took about 10 mins. If there is anything that I would say needs a little improvements is the texting aspect of it. You usually don’t get a response on text and if you call there’s a long wait time. The online part where you reserve a vehicle can confuse you a little and doesn’t make you feel secure that it’s there due to that, when you search the car, it still shows available. After speaking with a live person, I felt very confident about my purchase. I’ll be getting my next vehicle for my wife from here as well.

I am on car #4 from CarMax in Waterbury, CT and they always consistently provide Excellent service and quality cars. They are well vetted. I recently bought at BMWX5, and within a month there were a few issues, brought to my BMW dealer, they called CarMax and they covered every single issue (over 5K), my dealer even said CarMax was amazing and their warranty superseded what BMW offers. Ill be back.
I went to sell my Jeep Wrangler to them and they gave me the stated price as per the email that was sent to me.I uploaded my pictures and they sent me a price back that I was comfortable with.Went there and it literally took me 45 min from when I walked in the door till I was out the door with a check in my hand.I will definitely use CarMax in the future when I am looking for another car.People were very friendly as well
The best experience I ever had at a car dealership. Not once did I feel like I was in an actual Car Dealership. I was very fortunate to have Matt as my Sale Associate. He was amazing! Very knowledgeable guy and knows his vehicles. Not once did he try to sell me anything in the parking lot. I end up looking for a model on their online website. That was also a fantastic experience because once you find the car of your dreams, you can do the research at home, and when you are comfortable, you can go in and see Mathew at Carmax! Once my vehicle got delivered to the Waterbury location, I went back to Carmax to test drive the car. Another fantastic experience is that no one forces me to sign anything or put any money down after the test drive. I had the freedom to think about the car and ask Matt a couple of questions about the vehicle, the warranty, and the return policy. These sales associates are very friendly and know what theyre selling. Matt was able to answer every question honestly without trying to sell me anything. After a 30-minute test drive, I was done with my paperwork in 30 minutes and became a proud owner of a Jeep! I wish these guys sold other things like houses and insurance, hahaha. Great experience! Great warranty! Great Customer Service!!!!!
I have been purchasing cars from Camax for a few years now and all of my purchases (cars) have been GREAT. I have not been disappointed in any of my purchases. I am now on my fourth vehicle and although Ive only had the car a little over a mouth I am very happy with my purchase. the service guys are great as well, on my prior purchase (which was a mercedes 2013 ML350), there was a problem with the turn signal not working at all from time to time. I made an appointment took the car in they checked it out, state they rechecked all connections and all seem well. They informed me if the problem returns to call them and they will make appointment for me at my nearest MB dealer to repair at their expense and also extented the coverage on that issue an additional 12 mos. Mind you I did not ask for the extension.All I can say is, I dare you to try them.
I went to go visit today the dealership unfortunately, those sales that could be really helpful in determining what type of car I would need to buy. I was there to test drive and try to figure out what type of car I needed as my car is being processed for being total. However, the gentleman at the front desk was very helpful but the sales staff behind could care less. Also the website indicated certain cars were on the lot and those cars were not there test drive or inspection. I feel like I wasted my time driving to their dealership and spending 20 minutes walking around and getting no help.
CarMax made this process easy and fun. Stewart and his team in Waterbury were amazing and I would use them again for any of my car buying or selling needs!
I was here 8/30/2020, Wasn’t greetedI’ve never been to a CarMax so wasn’t sure how things worked here. I took a look around their show room area and I was interested in a car I walk in and tell the man in the front with glasses I would like to test drive, he tells me sure I need my insurance and IDI begin to get my insurance and Id and this man begins helping someone else as if my time wasn’t worth anything. I guess I’ll stick to real dealerships where salesmen are happy to help !
We had been looking for a specific car to purchase and they helped us locate the car and have it shipped to CT from out of state in little over a week during a bad storm. The storm had many businesses out of electricity for days. They were able to get my car in and ready for sale per guidelines set by my state.We, my wife and I, were very impressed with ours salesperson Matt B.He went up and above for us and our daughter just a couple of weeks before.We would recommend them as well as be repeat customers. It took me 4 days to sell my car because they took me late for my appointment time and the bank was closed by the time they took me, they then didn’t call me back for 2 days so I finally just went in again, and waited until finally someone helped me…but at the end of the day they did buy my car for more than the dealers were going to give for a trade in value
We sold our car to Carmax in Waterbury. My car was appraised online the week prior and received a competitive rate. Brian handled the process in the office with professionalism. He was very friendly and worked very hard to complete the sale and transfer of the car. There were no surprises at all.
