Fast service at an affordable price. I easily made an appointment online for the next day. Drop off was easy first thing in the morning and my car was done by 9:30. All for less than I expected to pay to repair a flat tire.

After spending almost $900 to have my car checked prior to a long road trip, this is what was discovered: (1) the front brakes needed to be replaced. NOW when the car is driven over 70 miles an hour the car shakes uncontrobally - NOT how it was brought in to the shoppe. (2) - checked over meant an entire check of battery, fluids, etc. TWO DAYS following my service at Shawnee the car was DEAD and it took $132 with AAA to have the battery replaced. Turns out the battery had only 3% power. Now, if Shawnee had checked this like they say they did this should have been caught immediately. (3) - tires - all four tires had different pressure. AND, the tire pressure light did not turn off until the car had been driven almost 200 miles (I was told by George at Shawnee that it would take LESS THAN 10). As soon as the tire pressure light went off the Tire Pressure system light came ON. DO NOT TAKE YOUR CAR TO THIS PLACE!! They will price gouge you (I was told by AAA and two other garages how badly I was over charged) AND OVERCHARGED for services not done and DONE POORLY. Oh, and their response sorry you had a bad experience and why dont you bring the car back - you mean now that Im 100 miles in to my road trip YOU KNEW I WAS TAKING? Yes, Im furious and worried for any other person who takes their vehicle to this place!!!

Took our Volvo XC-90 to locally owned and operated Shawnee because the check engine light came on. They diagnosed it as needing a spark plug coil (which went bad because the plugs needed to be replaced): they did so. I brought the car back two more times for same problem! The Bosch plugs were defective. The last time they used Volvo plugs. They didn’t charge for parts or labor except for the first time. Appreciate that they stand behind their work.

George was incredibly friendly over the phone when I described the problem with my vehicle (wouldnt crank) & explained how theyd receive my car, assess, & then call me to inform me what the problem was & give me a quote before they went further.When I called back to confirm the go-ahead to replace my starter, I was so surprised (in the best way) they said Id be able to pick it up the very next day.I didnt get to meet George but Phil was great - just rang me up for the price George quoted me & I got to drive out of the lot with my car one very happy camper.Thank you so much, these pros made this as stress free as it couldve possibly have been!

Took my car in because my brakes were making a funny noise and I knew my tires were getting ready to be replaced as well. I was pleasantly surprised at the honesty that George gave me. As a single girl it’s always nerve wracking taking a car in for service and being worried about being unnecessarily upcharged but George told me my brakes were in fact fine and it was just my tires that needed replacing. He could’ve easily told me I needed both and I would’ve believed him. Service was speedy and overall very professional with the small exception of having to remind the front receptionist to please put their mask on while I was paying for the service. I will be back though and recommending this place to friends!

I have an old car (1988 Acura Legend) that I am very fond of, and one of the reasons that I get to keep using it is because of Shawnees team and their expert help/repairs. My most recent issue was with a recalcitrant clutch, that I had tried to diagnose myself (and failed). I also got an oil change done, and the technician (thank you Mr. Hovey), was able to spot/diagnose a leak from the flex hose that I had missed. When I find that part, Ill be back to get that issue taken care of.Thanks again to the whole team at Shawnee, theyve been helping me for close to six years now, and I recommend them unreservedly.

I live in Wilmette yet had never been to Shawnee. A few weeks ago my tire pressure was low and I stopped by to see if they could check it for me. They did with great kindness and no charge. When I needed actual work done I returned and was so happy with the service.

I have never worked with Shawnee Garage in the past. I drive an older Toyota Highlander. Ruptured a oil cooler line recently and the car was leaking oil badly. I limped the car home.It was 6pm and the local Toyota dealer did not answer my call. I had heard about Shawnee Garage in Wilmette and I called them at 10 minutes before closing time. They gave me the name of a good towing company and said to bring the car to Shawnee.They started on the car immediately the next day. I also asked them to attend to a few other service issues. A good mechanic and a good accountant are two of the most important relationships you can make in life, and Shawnee will take care of one of those for you. They have been around for 103 years and their service, honestly and fair pricing says it all. Despite a rapidly changing automobile industry, they are training their mechanics to stay on the cutting edge, yet still have a wealth of knowledge about older/classic cars. Also very convenient to purple line to drop your car off and get back to where you need to go.

The BEST place around for car repair. I have been taking my cars there for 20+ years and have never had a bad experience. Most of all, they are honest and fair. Phil and his crew show excellent judgement in what does and does not need to be fixed. My 2003 vehicle with 193,000 miles runs like a top thanks to their efforts. Excellent service Convenient. Professional and friendly, helpful staff. Easy making an appointment by phone or online. Dropped my car off at 8:00am and car was ready before 11:00am. I had an oil change and fluids checked for Chicago winter weather. As I live just too far to walk to and from Shawnee, a free drop off and pick up service is offered. For those who work in Evanston or downtown Chicago, the Linden “L” is just across the street and the Purple Line “Express” has AM and PM hours.

Shawnee has become my go to service center...after being shocked at quotes I was getting from the Audi dealer related to major repairs, and the same for the VW dealer related to my VW CC, I found that Shawnee could make the repairs on a timely basis for considerably less than the dealers!Nice guys as well!

Work done seems to be ok, but Im still trying to figure out why I was charged $120 to scan for codes and do a road test. I brought in pictures of both codes that were being thrown (P0171 and P0174, indicating that it was running lean on both banks), so you already had the codes. Also, a road test would not tell you why it was running lean, so that seems like an unnecessary service.

Wonderful team! They had a very good deal for the car service that I could not resist. The service was fast and after 15 minutes, the car was ready. Great service indeed!

They are not the cheapest, but they have never tried to take me for a ride. So if they tell me something needs attention, I have them do it. I rely on and trust Shawnee with all regular maintenance and repairs to my 16 year old, city street parked Honda, one of main reasons my car still runs beautifully at 16 years old. While Shawnee does not handle body work, they advise me of other repairs needed, when needed, estimated costs, time and schedule, and priorities for repair. Unlike my dealer, Shawnee may advise a proactive repair, but will not advise repairs not needed. Costs are broken out by parts and labor. Labor costs are calculated by book. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable and treat customers with dignity and respect.

I give shawnee an excellent rating. i took my car to the garage i normally use and they told me there were three things wrong with my car: brakes, battery and rear differential. they said it might cost up to $6500 just for the differential. i said id get back to them later and i called my brother who has experience with cars. i explained to him the noise in the car that my garage had said was symptomatic of a differential problem and told him i had both the brakes and battery replaced in the last few years. he suggested i take my car to a second garage for another opinion (primarily because he felt the noise problem had to do with an electrical pump and not the differential) and i decided on shawnee because the family that owns it is a local family with which i was familiar as being a stand-up family from my high school and grammar school days.anyway, shawnee determined the supposed differential problem was due to the air pump associated with the air suspension and that it had nothing to do with the differential which would have been many times more expensive for any repairs. based on their test driving of the car twice, shawnee also told me i did not need new brakes or battery so i was spared that unnecessary expense as well as pleased with their accuracy and honesty on that. shawnee agreed with my brother on everything including most importantly, minimizing how much i spend on maintaining my car. and thats what i am looking for most in a garage.so, shawnee is my new garage and i now have an idea as to why my old garage recently changed its name and why my two favorite mechanics at the old garage no longer work there.

Great shop. I wasnt counting, but it looked like they had at least 10 bays, and the shop area was fastidiously clean....always a good sign. Shop is also NAPA certified....another good sign.Can only add what others have said.....honest people, honest work and fair prices. Is now my exclusive auto shop of choice.BTW - If you get the chance to go back in the service area, check out the Yamaha 90 parked in the front of the shop. Probably late 1960s - early 1970s, its spotless and looks brand new.

After moving in nearby, Id first been to Shawnee to get a front wheel hub replaced. It was a very pleasant experience and the job was well done.Recently, while attempting to fix something on the car by myself, I broke a bolt used to mount the front v-fork to the strut. I took the part to Shawnee and asked for help/advice. Phil (their service advisor) was very kind and gave me a few ideas about how to attempt to salvage/save the part. Eventually I asked if their workshop might give the job a shot even though this was a mistake of my own making.Long story short, not only did they extract the broken bolt, they put in a replacement bolt and assembled the strut and v-fork which made my life a lot easier.I really appreciate the help and the professionalism with which work gets done here. Highly recommended :).

Ten years ago when a friend dropped me off here after my car battery died at Gillson Park, he said, “These are good guys. They’ll take care of you.” He was absolutely right. These guys know cars well and they’ll treat you right (shout-out to Rogers and Phil, and the ‘new’ guy who knows Hyundais whose name I have yet to learn). Their prices are fair and they won’t try to sell you stuff you don’t need. As a single woman who knows absolutely nothing about cars, I’m glad I can trust them for good mechanical advice and services when needed—no more, no less. I wouldn’t want to take my car anywhere else.

My heating system went down function (december!). Shawnee accepted my car spontanously and had the system repaired the same day. They called after a swift and comprehensive diagnosis. I was more than happy to see that the price was modest!

It has been a while since last time I brought my vehicle over for service. This time I schedule a brake inspection and was told I need to replace both the brake pad and rotor for the front axis for about $650 for my 2009 Cadillac (45K miles only) requires more expensive rotors & pads. They also told me I need to replace the cabin air filter for $90 that my son installed a new one (cost less than $20 from Amazon) for me 2 weeks ago??? Then I also need to do an oil change with full synthetic oil for close to $90. I negotiated out the cabin air filter replacement for sure I dont need to replace a 2 weeks old cabin air filter and the oil change that my on-board computer saying I still have 50% oil life left. I still let them perform the brake service but I do feel I was overcharged. Shawnee used to be a well trusted place but I am disappointed to see it is now trying to overcharge its customers for unnecessary services...
