This old school diner is true to its reputation! We were staying at the hotel next door and ate here everyday of our stay. The service is super warm and inviting. The food was amazing and so was the expresso. They have an amazing variety of dishes for every craving imaginable. If you are in town, this is a must. You are going to love it.
Theyre really nice and greet you as soon as you walk in. The place is clean and nice and cool. Theyre breakfast menu is really nice and clear and they have something for everyone. My husband ordered the steak Benedict but the steak was a little chewy and the presentation wasnt as nice. I ordered the Denver skillet (fried eggs over homefries with cheddar cheese) and it was flavorless and they put too much onions and peppers. Other than that the food comes out fast and theyre very attentive.
Very laid back and nice. I left Cross County after looking for parking. It was so overcrowded it was disturbing. I remembered this place. The staff is professional n friendly. The food is very good. I want to say it is a bit pricey for a diner. Cool with me if I can sit and feel normal. This is one to keep in the pocket.

When an eggs Benedict order comes out with the eggs cooked hard and you asked for them runny the whole dish should be recooked. The waitress took away the dish and brought it back without the eggs and the same English muffin and Canadian bacon and said to wait for the eggs to come out… 10 minutes later no eggs and everything is now cold. Who does this!!When we asked for the dish to be recooked the manager came and said …”you ate the eggs and now want more eggs… “ No, your waitress took the eggs and returned the same plate. Horrible service by manager… no apology for their mistake.
Came here for the first time on Sunday and the best thing about this diner was the hospitality. Staff was very friendly and prompt, but the food left a lot to be desired. For starters, I ordered the veggie omelet with home fries which lacked seasoning. In fact, my party and I had to add multiple dashes of salt to our meals and we all ordered different items from the menu. On top of that, two of us received the wrong order and one was sent back. The biggest con however were the utensils provided which had pieces of food on them as if they were only rinsed and not washed with soap and water. This is a big no no!! and not just because of COVID but that is just plain gross! Because of this my party and I had to request plastic utensils to eat our food. Overall, will not be returning.
I had to give one star because zero was not an option. God forbid they knew what French onion soup was. Its not vegetable soup with cheese on it. Not only that, food came out with hair on it, orders came out wrong. We asked for no potatoes on the side due to health reasons, what happens, potatoes in the omelet that was not supposed to have to begin with. Should change the name from Grassy Sprain to the Gressey Sprain for the place was run down and looks like it has not been cleaned in a decade. Not to mention the staff was clueless. Overall horrible place and you should have a covid test after for NONE of the people had masks on aside from the health Hazzard food.
Great service! The food was just as good as any diner, the portions for the home fries isnt as much as the raceway diner but the food was good overall. The waitress was so kind!
A great place to enjoy breakfast, lunch, brunch or dinner with friends and family or by yourself even.The place is very nice and they have varieties of food choices.The price is reasonable and it wont hurt your pockets.Good meal at a fair price in a comfortable environment, you cant beat that.Their service is also excellent, the waiters are very generous and welcoming.I suggest anyone nearby to check this place out.

The food was good! There was an issue with the lentil soup but besides that, everything was good. I grabbed a milkshake before leaving and im glad I did!

I really like this place sometimes they do really well and a few time they really messed up. Food is good overall. Some really nice people. My suggestion, call before placing an order online or right afterwards if you have any specifications.

Service was really nice, prompt and friendly with a very cozy and comfortable atmosphere. The food unfortunately wasnt that great. I ordered the huevos Ranchero and the beans were very undercooked and bland, the tortillas looked oily so I didnt try that and the home fries didnt have much flavor. The eggs were okay, sunny side up, no frills. I really did find the server Alejandro to be very pleasant and made sure the cup of coffee I had was topped off.
We eat out every weekends. We, Party of 4, have been visiting many restaurants in Tuckahoe area last 2 years.We were so happy to dine in here today finally after the pandemic.When it comes to the taste of food, Grassy sprain diner takes all of our votes.Ive tried most of their dinner specials, From goulash to shrimp scampi to fish platter..etc. all were surprisingly good.Yeah, one or two didnt work out though. But I dare to say Grassy Sprain diner is my husbands #1 non- Korean restaurant and It is not easy to please him with non-Korean food.With reasonable price, quality food that satisfies you, also kind staffs and good old local diner feeling makes you comfy, we became a regular.If you looking for a fancy or trendy set up, it is def not the right place. But if you want to have some good quality home made like food, give it a try. All my friends agreed.

I have eaten at this restaurant at least once a week. My server, Rena us the best. I was there this past Monday. The server placed the straws, condiments, and drinks in a manner which I did not like. We had to wait over 10 minutes for our food. When the food was given. It was lukewarm. I did not send back because did not trust what I would be eating. I will go again, but I will make sure it is not on a Monday. I will attend when Rena is there only

The staff at this dinner was friendly and were open to answering every question we had. The food was good but it did take a bit long to receive. The coffee was very poor quality and the water tasted fishy. I think this eatery has great potential just needs some adjustments.
One of the better diners in Yonkers. Prices are very reasonable, nice portions, food is fresh, staff is friendly and efficient and has a large parking lot. I doubt you will find a better place for the money.
Food is great ! Great portions and great prices. Only thing I would change would be the woman who answers the phones. It sounds like she’s always angry to pick up the phone, makes customers feel like they don’t want to order anymore. Ruins the family friendly vibe Grassy Sprain Diner aims for. Dine-in is better because the waiters at-least TRY to be friendly and treat you with respect. And this isn’t a one time thing, I order their delivery consistently enough and sometimes just end up ordering somewhere else because of her unfriendly customer service.

Great little diner tucked away in a shopping centre
Food wasn’t bad and service was decent. I was thrown off when I was seated and saw my fork, it was filthy. Like did they forget to clean it? And when I was leaving and had to pay the young lady in the front with black hair she seemed rude, “what do you want?” I’d like to pay and get out of here. I’ll probably never come back but hey that was just my experience.
I have eaten here twice in the last 2 weeks. First time had a cheeseburger deluxe, the burger was cooked to order-medium rare. Fries were fantastic. They came out hot, crispy and had a great flavor, no ketchup was needed. My dinner companions enjoyed their meals. Second time, had the Reuben made with corned beef, it was good. Again fries were hot & crispy. I would have preferred more sauerkraut on the Reuben but thats my preference.Service was excellent. Wait staff was very attentive and pleasant. We got dessert to go each time. The Greek desserts were good. Unfortunately the cheesecake, chocolate mousse cake and apple strudel were all just okay. The cheesecake was a little dry. Maybe they dont make them on premises. The desserts were the reason for the 4 star review instead of a 5.

Still my favorite go-to diner in Yonkers! Tom, the owner, is always hospitable and the food is consistently good and plentiful. During Covid, they have been AMAZING with social distancing while still serving food via pick-up or delivery. Have been going here for years :)

Excellent!! I was staying in the area and stopped in. The food and service were first rate. I had Hungarian goulash with lentil soup and it was great. I’m super impressed. Try the homemade Greek desserts. Nice people and great service.

Terrible service, long wait for our food, waiter had high strung mental issues and started screaming at a family yelling that he had six tables and threw their soup on the counter and yelled get another waiter.All the customers gasped.All they did was ask the waiter where is there bowl of soup? The waiter snaped agressively throwing the hot soup on the counter! Never again will we go to the Grassy Sprain Diner, its radical, its like One Flew Over the Goo Goos Nest!!!Do you want people like this touching your food or serving your children? Food is pretty good except the the chicken tenders; they taste frozen. Everything else I bought so far has been tasty.

The service was very good. Our meals were brought out very quickly. I ordered the gyro platter. I thought for sure it would have been cut from from the vertical rotisserie. Instead it looked like it was the frozen type.

Typical diner fare - nothing elegant about the place, which could use some updating. Service was prompt and courteous, and it was acceptably clean. There are many beverage choices, including beer. About $17 for a hot open faced turkey sandwich seems high, and the liquidy cranberry sauce earned a 1-point deduction.
Ordered a take out breakfast for 4, the order was exactly to my specification. But most importantly it was delicious.Thank you Grassy Sprain Diner for helping us keep our Sunday breakfast outings

The food here is great! The fries are bomb! I’ve been to this diner about 3 or 4 times and I love it. Especially the waiters and waitresses. ALTHOUGH, I have also called for delivery from this place multiple times and just for one order they take about an hour and half to deliver it. Also, the woman who picks up the phone to take the order has her days where she is very rude and makes me cancel my order. They should really hire someone friendlier for their phones. Other than that, I think the diner is great for sit ins.
I have never been here for anything but their breakfast so I cant comment on anything else. The breakfast is good and the coffee is VERY GOOD. It is as good as advertised. The staff is very friendly and attentive. It does get a little busy so expect a bit of a wait.
Ive eaten here several times and have never been disappointed. Both times, I had either burgers or eggs. They were delicious. I was served by a courteous waiter and enjoyed the friendly atmosphere of the neighborhood people. I remember the coffee being good and the desert that I had. This was the old Friendlys that I used to come to as a kid. Whether you sit at the bar or table, it is certainly worth it. The prices of fair and the food is pretty good. I recommend it to all who are looking for a good lunch or a fine dinner. Bring the family, because they all have fun. By the way, the portions are generous and you will leave fulfilled.

This place looks like they value speed and quantity over quality. The lady at the fron is super nice and fast. But the food is not that great and pricing is off compared to surrounding are. Their menu is skewed when it comes to pricing. See the waffle section. 1 waffle and 2 sausages $8.50.
There are really good diner small and you might have to wait a little but the food is pretty good. And I do have to say that this suits are pretty damn good for a diner and there is usually enough parking like I said the only bad thing is it is a small Diner so you might have to wait a little bit if they get busy. But I would recommend them and if you do go try the soups.
First time coming here. It’s very clean and welcoming. My boyfriend and I were seated right away. Place is pretty big for the location and It was partially full. Our waitress was super nice. I ordered the gyro sandwich, my boyfriend ordered the Texas burger with bacon and we shared an order of the best waffle fries I’ve ever tried. Let’s just say we found our new brunch spot. Would definitely recommend.
Now, there are a lot of diners in and around New York, and I haven’t tried all of them, but, this is the BEST NEW YORK DINER!!! Actually this is probably the best diner PERIOD. The atmosphere, the service, the food, all quaintly top notch! It’s like one of those cheery little family diners out of a 50’s tv show. Great service, clean all around. Food was ok. We ordered steaks medium well, which were done to perfection. The problem was seasoning, you could tell the steaks were not marbalized prior to cooking. That aside, everything else was fine. Kudos to Susanna for the fantastic friendliness and attention she provided. We would for sure eat here again.
