We have bought so many cars from CarMax and weve had exceptional service every single time. With each purchase we have shared about our experiences online only to find a large number of others who have as well.CarMax is exceptional in their customer service and the quality of car that they offer. It has spoiled me with each purchase and on the rare occasion that Ive stepped foot on any other car lot Ive never purchased because the customer service and options just arent the same.My recent purchase was utterly unplanned. I happened to open the CarMax app and scrolled through until I saw a great truck at an amazing price. The 360 tour had already sold me on the vehicle before I hit the lot. The photos and descriptions were perfectly reflective of the vehicle.The process of getting an estimate on my current car was quick and easy. The price they offered me for it was much better than I had anticipated.In every step the entire team were friendly, knowledgeable, helpful and most of all not pushy. They have mastered the alchemy of tech and customer service. Well done.
I don’t ever give out 5 star reviews. CarMax is the easiest way to buy a car. I test drove a car and bought it the same day. I paid cash, so all I had to do was get a cashier’s check from my bank and sign a few papers and I was driving down the road in my shiny used 2010 Green Honda Accord. Jeremy set me up with my test drive and Keitha helped me with the paperwork. Everyone was friendly and professional. The car looks great and runs great.
Great people to deal with fast, efficient and knowledgeable. I have dealt with them now on 5 occasions and all outstanding. Their building is going through complete renovation and that could not slow them down.

This is my second time buying a vehicle from this location of CarMax. Both times, I was treated professionally and I believe fairly. The cars I bought were in great condition and had good service records. All I can say is that Id go back for a third time when the time comes to get a new to me vehicle.
Three locations, four options, first one had for almost 30 days only to be informed after five phone calls I would be paying for features that did not exist and the check engine light was on the entire time since the day it was driven off the lot! Returned to get better option with appropriate features did not feel welcomed by General Manager during the process and never received an apology for the lack of communication prior to that point. Happy with how closely Ryan kept in contact until everything was finalized with the second vehicle. It’s unfortunate that this is my third purchase with CarMax and was forced to loss faith in them. I don’t think we will be using or referring people to them in the future.
I was greeted immediately by the salesman and very quickly the vehicle I wanted was found and delivered the next day. I took ownership a few days later and everything was handled in house. Very convenient and easy. A++

Nice experience. It was much better researching/shopping online before test driving. It took less than two hours to trade our old car for a newer, nicer one. There were no high pressure sales attempts, just help in expediting the sales/transfer process. I recommend.
My experience is selling my car to them. Back office has no leadership or concept of customer service. Received my quote from the front and then the back office says we no longer take Mercedes, after speaking to manager given apologies and sold my car. Weeks later they call and tell me I owed less on loan than originally quoted, please come get a check for xxx amount. Drive all the way down and the clerks have no clue what I’m talking about. Thanks for wasting my time. Will try Carvana next time.
WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE HANDS DOWN... This company does not even deserve a one star review. They are so quick to take your money but not give it back. I bought a car from them and returned it within their 30 day return policy. Ever since I have been dismissed by their business office many times. I have called and left messages with not one returned call. After multiple rude and unhelpful phone conversations I am left very displeased with the service I was given. Would NOT recommend to anyone looking for a good and corporative company.
From the first call to get the car shipped to Fredericksburg from Laurel, MD., to seeing the car, it was pretty seamless. I was met and my salesman Tom Goldston was very helpful. He quickly arranged for a test drive while my Audi Q7 was being appraised. The appraisal was very fair and I moved forward with the trade. Esther was very efficient with the paperwork and I was on my way.

Super impressed with this car dealership. Sixteen year old friend of family searched for months in local area for her first car but nothing available or suitable. She found a car on line in Connecticut and had carmax ship it down with parents permission. Car arrive in under 2 weeks in great shape. Well represented on website. She was allowed to take car to family mechanic who thought the car was in great shape and good value for the money. Mechanic found 6 minor issues with the car of which carmax repaired at no cost. Fantastic, friendly, and professional customer service. Totally impressed with process and staff. Will be my first stop for my next car.
CarMax was easy to work with. Id give the full five stars but I requested a transfer from out-of-state and was quoted 9 days for arrival but it didnt arrive until 4 days after that so almost 2 weeks total! But that was the only negative. Ryan Smith was our sales agent and he was great. I test drove a lot of cars and Im sure he thought Id never actually buy one but I finally did and am happy with my new-to-me car so far (a 2019 Kia Optima).
Got our vehicle from Carmax!!It would never be possible without the help of Paige. She guided me all the way and even helped me get my vehicle appraised online. More importantly, she put the vehicle on hold until our appointment.Rusell helped us get pre-approved, and booked an appointment.We traveled 2 hours from Maryland to this store, but Edward Szeto made it more complicated. Instead of listening to our query, he made it his way which made us stay at the store for almost three hours. He even treated me like his intern doing errands for him, like he was my boss.Edward demotivated us telling us that we cannot get our vehicle that day, rather than helping us ease the situation (if he couldve listened to us in the first place, things wont get worse).We are very glad that Megan assisted us on the second day. She is so bubbly, welcoming, and she even loves our kid (very different from the way Edward treated us). In addition, she gave us a 30minute test drive!Megan treated us like king and queen. Stacy also guided us on how to manage the change of title of our need vehicle, and she is very welcome for any assistance.Couldve been a 5 Star review. But, that one star fell because of Edward. He didnt bring that Carmax Service Brand to us.
9/14: I just got a “final” 30 day notice from my bank, no update from CarMax8/24: Update: they have reached out and informed me that it should be resolved within the next 2 weeks. I appreciate the follow up and will raise my rating once this has been resolved as I did like the ease of the car buying process outside of this.I chose CarMax so that I wouldn’t have to worry about the paperwork/getting my title sent to my bank like you would with smaller dealers.It’s now been over 3 months since I purchased my car and I am getting notices from my bank due to CarMax not turning the title over. Turns out they sold me the car without the title (which apparently you can do), but I have now had to call them 3(maybe even 4) times and I keep getting the same “we’re looking into it, weve escalated this to corporate, we’ll follow up with you” conversation. Not once has anyone followed up and I now have 30 days to ensure my bank gets the paperwork or I’ll have run afoul of my loan agreement.I would’ve rated them much higher but at this point I’m at my wits end and with the amount of money I paid for this car I shouldn’t have to even think about the paperwork, that’s why I chose CarMax to begin with

I was looking to sell one of my vehicles, and proceeded with getting a quote online. I entered in my information, and had a great quote instantly. I was very skeptical at first being that this is my first CarMax experience. So I decided to make an appointment a few days later. I went in the store, the sent me to over to there buying side and they looked at my vehicle and gave me a quote. It was about a hour an half from start to finish. The process was smooth and the people were friendly. I would definitely use the car buying process again.
It was a struggle trying to do my trade in but it all worked out in the end. After three trips up there I was very happy with my end result. Special thanks to everyone there that played a part in helping me.

The process was considerably slower than anticipated. As I was the only one in the waiting area, I would have thought to be out the door in less than the 45 minutes I was there. It took a while for someone to test drive my car and then took a while for me to get back to sign. Once I was in the back area, things were fact and efficient. My processor was very nice and helpful.

We drove all the way from Winston-Salem, NC to Fredericksburg, VA by our own choice, to buy a plug-in Optima- because it was exactly the car we wanted. Title issues didnt allow it to be transferred- fine.. well go pick it up. So we got a friend to drive us the 5 hours (one way) to get it.We were serious about the car when we got there, and were ready to go with a hefty down payment.We were delighted with the car after our test drive- it was exactly what we were hoping for.And then we were told... the plug-in cord for the car was no where to be found, and the hybrid battery was almost empty- it could not be driven back home safely.Car Max ordered the missing cord, gave us a loaner, offered to pay for gas, etc. I was not exactly happy, but okay with it. But I didnt demand anything for the hassle- I really just wanted the car and went ahead with the purchase. I drove home in the loaner car.The next day I got a call from the service department that the cord was actually on the premises while we were in Fredericksburg and not lost- and that does make the error a lot more irritating!Why on earth was the cord not cataloged with the car, any problems with it resolved, and already inside the trunk of a fully charged vehicle, by the time we got there for our test drive appointment?I reserved the car over a week before. I was ready to buy, but the car was not quite ready to be sold.Once it was missing, why didnt someone ask the guy whos in charge of that where it was? I hear he was off work, but surely hes not the only one in the shop who would know. Cant someone make a phone call to prevent a customer service faux pas?After all, it is a PLUG-IN hybrid.So now I have to take another whole day to make the round trip a second time, and the cord was actually there the whole time....?After all the coming and going, I am very happy with my car. I chose to overlook the errors, but I realize that most people would not have gone to these lengths just to buy a car.
I bought a T250 high roof cargo van, when I went to pick up the vehicle one of the employees drove it thru the car wash machine and totally destroyed, I waited another week to get another one, this one one of the back wheels breaks start smoking 1800 miles after I rolled out the lot.... service department give me an appointment for two weeks down the road, showed up to dropped the van off at 9AM and they told me it was supposed to be dropped at 7AM. Send me back home with no breaks!!!! The worst customer service ever
We were looking for a full size passenger van - basically Unobtainium in the current market. Ed Szeto helped us search the CarMax database - initially there were none available anywhere. When one did become available (4 states away), Ed called me immediately and explained the shipping process, I asked a few questions about the van which he got answered quickly, and we were able to snag a Ford Transit. The van is in excellent shape (our son is a professional mechanic, checked it over thoroughly and was surprised at what great shape it was in), and Ed could not have been more helpful. Frankly, I have always been skeptical about CarMax, but they really hit a home run for us.
Wow where do I begin? My dad and I drove almost 4 hours to this location to purchase a truck that I had on put hold for my dad to come in and purchase. When we got there the salesman told my dad that someone else was coming to purchase the truck the following day and basically we were SOL. So after I spoke to a manager they got the situation handled and we left with the truck. Now a whole month goes by and my dad never received the plates and temp tags EXPIRED because CARMAX NEVER SENT REGISTRATION INFO TO DMV! They’re excuse was they were “short staffed”. My my dad had to come out of pocket over $500 to get registered and CarMax won’t reimburse!! GO THERE AT YOUR OWN RISK!
Employees are always so nice and helpful! They have a great selection of cars at good prices and pay fair deals for cars that you are selling or trading.

Went through the entire process and they told me i was approved for a car and they told me to go ahead and pay for the car transfer . the car was being transferred from Hartford, Ct and the cost was almost $300 once the car arrived i sent in the remainder of the necessary paperwork but its been almost a month and i haven’t received any calls from them, anytime i call it automatically sends me to a recorded message that gives me an update on the car but it has been saying the same thing for the past 4 weeks and i can never get a hold of them they have basically ghosted me. i don’t understand why they would make me pay the transfer fee (thats not refundable) if they weren’t going to end up giving me the car. i would never recommend this place to any friends or family. i ended up going to a different dealership and was able to get a car all in the same day and it ended up being a newer one than the one i had considered with carmax... still very disappointed that i lost $300 to them .

Purchased a vehicle in january of 2021 now end of July carmaxx has been unable to provide a proper title signed off on where it is illegal in the state of Virginia to exceed 30 days without being able to perfect a loan Andy the business office manager was beyond unhelpful will be contacting DMV to make them aware carmaxx illegal actions
Overall we had a very good experience. We were able to reserve a car online, get an estimate for our old car, and get pre- approved. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and not at all pushy. They do have a system and everything seemed straight forward and clear as we were going through the purchasing process. At the end, we got a better trade in offer than the estimate we got online.
We had a very smooth experience with CarMax. Our salesman, Chris was easy going and explained the whole process. He made us feel comfortable and answered all questions we had.

Ill preface this review by saying we returned the car and the return is why I gave 3 stars. I came in to trade my car, I originally found a sorento that I liked but once I got home I found multiple things I didnt like and couldnt see myself wanting to drive the car for a long period of time so I took advantage of the return policy and brought the car back within 7 days. The salesman wasnt there that day but I live an hour away and have a hard time being off at the same time as my husband so I continued with the return. The salesman tried EXTREMELY HARD to persuade me to leave and keep the sorento. He told me his wife had the sorento and hes worked there for a long time so he knows which cars are good, he told me an auction day is the worst day and if I thought the first day was long just wait and see how long this takes, he said returns are hard, he said the car I looked at wasnt as good as the sorento so it makes no sense to trade it. I decided on a CRV because it was nice, had good gas mileage and had 24,000 miles on it, which is great! He said uhg, a 2010? Okay, I get it, he didnt want to work with me. He told me the guy I worked with would be there Friday and tried calling him at home, he didnt answer at first, called back and the salesman said he thought you liked the sorento? My husband tried to joke with him and lighten the mode to no prevail. He was irritated until we were leaving. I would never work with this particular salesman again, we werent rude or disrespectful in any way, we smiled and laughed through his awkward meanness and did what we had to do. Hes worked there for a very long time so he should be a little more accommodating or he shouldve given us to a different sales person. The car buying part was easy, the salesman was terrible. Also, the lady in the business office is amazing! I think her name was Ester? Im not sure, but she was great!

Horrible. I was sold a car that has recalls after the sales agent said it didn’t. I attempted to take it back in the 7 days and they wouldn’t take it back and made me pay for the repairs the car needed. Terrible terrible terrible! I hate this car and the experience! Never again!
Absolutley no pressure sales. I cant review the buying the car experience because the BMW wagon I had transferred from another carmax, for no charge mind you, turned out to not be big enough for my family. They showed me a few other cars that just werent right for me at the time and they said no problem. Keep an eye on the site and if you see something else you might like just let us know and well even transfer another vehicle in again for you. As I was walking out I saw the BMW Z4 and sent the pics to a friend of mine that was looking for one, I had them put it on hold for him and he went and bought it 2 days later. He was very happy with the buying process. Only reasons I would give 4 stars was the price of the extended warranties, but hey, if you want coverage you should prob go ahead and pay for this cause they cover all kinda stuff in the warranties from what Ive read. But to give it 4 stars and I didnt even buy, i cant really do that Im basing it on my looking experience and staff dealings alone, and I give that a 5 star.

Agree with several post... good place to buy a vehicle. Would think twice about using the Service Dept. Although the ladies up front Sarah and Patrice are great (been going there for at least 5 yrs).. the Service Manage is clueless. Had an issue with a wheel on my truck that was returned to me damaged. When I approach him about it, he said, I dont have a clue what or how the damaged was caused. Was then referred to a guy from Suburban Tire - also clueless (not a wheel expert) - who said this is a typical problem from Toyota. Toyota refutes such a notion as well as the reputable body shop that I had do an independent inspection.Note ... there was no corrosion on any of the wheels when the truck went in for 4 new tires.. Yet it was returned with only one wheel damaged.
Had a couple of issues off the lot. Service stepped in and fixed. After getting home and looking at the car on a sunny day we were upset with the amount scratches and blemishes. Service again stepped in and took care of us. The car is not blemish free but look much better after they detailed it.

Received an on-line estimate to sell my car. When I got there the price offered was significantly reduced. Truly felt like bait & switch to me.
BEWARE. I bought it a vehicle here in 2019. They use Experian for vehicle reports and gave me a report stating no history of an accident. Low and behold I trade my car in this weekend to find out the Carfax which using the VIN of the vehicle. The same as Experian. Carfax showed a report of an accident. THIS WAS NOT DISCLOSED TO ME. The previous owner had been in accident. I have had non-stop issues with this car and was blaming the manufacturer but nope low and behold CarMax failed to disclose an accident from the pervious owner. Corporate did nothing kept repeating themselves on the fact that they use Experian not Carfax. It should not matter if an accident is reported on the vin of the vehicle it should be on ALL reports. This should be illegal. Because of this I lost trade in value on my car. I will NEVER purchase another vehicle from CarMax and have reported them to the Virginia Attorney General office and Better Business Bureau.
