Our family van lost its transmission on the last day of a five week travel vacation. I was having trouble locating someone to help. Alan at A&J ensured me he could take care of it and my family and help us get home. Alan even graciously provided me a ride to the airport to pick up a rental car.It took several months to get a new transmission shipped, but when it arrived, it was quickly installed and I returned to pick it up for the 850 mile drive home.When I got home, I noticed a couple issues with the installation. It took some time and back and forth, but in the end, A&J took full responsibility and refunded an appropriate amount to cover the work needed to get the installation correct (it was a bit of a custom job, not your standard transmission replacement).In the end, I am happy to have gone to A&J. Despite some time and back and forth, communication with Travis was respectful and professional.Because of the open and honest willingness to work through to an acceptable conclusion, I am happy to recommend A&J Transmission should you have such a need in Lansing.

Today I give thanks for getting my car fixed by A & J Transmission. My search for a local mechanic shop that will diligently work to keep my car cared for stops right here at A & J Transmission. After being through three other local mechanics who unsuccessfully managed my car and inappropriately, I find that the A & J Transmission mechanics and employees work by and through their Integrity, Honesty, Dignity and Kindness. Their communication was explicit and upfront. They kept me in the loop by calling me with updates about my cars repairs and other possible fixes to keep in mind for the future. A&J Transmission came highly recommended. Come at opening to get your transmission service done, it is done by first come first serve. They did wonderful work on my car but I also wanted to comment on the way they made me feel. I came after dropping kids off at school and driving to Lansing, a half hour from my home. I arrived 15 minutes after they opened and realized that they must have filled all the transmission appointments they were going to do that day. As a mother of 6 it took some planning and preparing to get my vehicle there but they would not have known that, they took my car and allowed it to get serviced and made the time. I was floored. They explained well what they were doing and how much it was going to be upfront. I appreciated the respect they gave to me. Not only that, I had my youngest with me in the waiting room for the 45 minute service appointment. They changed the channel to delight my son and gave him a car for him to enjoy playing with during the appointment. A & J Transmission went above and beyond my car. They took care of my family and the care and concern they showed us in the waiting room has earned my loyalty as a customer. Great job. Thank you!

A & J Transmission cannot be overstated for how much they helped me with my car. A few months after my transmission was fixed, it had another issue that they fixed for free under warranty. These guys are there to help and stand by their warranty for real! Go to these guys if you ever need help with a fix up, they are the best.

I wouldnt recommend this place to my worst enemy! I only gave them 1 star because I cant give them the -5 they deserve. My sons car was taken in to them over 3 weeks ago, it took them over a week to even look at it. In the meantime we have been renting a car for 3 weeks so everyone can get to work. Everytime we call they are rude and unprofessional.

Many yrs ago I found A&J transmission when my transmission blew due to neglect.I was in a pinch and A&J found me a used transmission and even worked with me personally to finance payment for the work.Ive known Alan and Travis nearly 5 years since then and know them to be knowledgeable, hard working, and I dare say even caring that their customers get exactly what they need.If you need a reliable shop that can do all services, go to A & J!

The only place I trust to get my car serviced. Corey is phenomenal and is always willing to explain exactly what he believes the issue is and your options of repair. I have yet to have a bad experience at A&J transmission, if you’re a student and need to get your car serviced but you’re worried about taking it somewhere out of your hometown like I was, take it to them.

I have dealt with these guys for almost two decades. They are always knowledgeable, friendly, and honest.Most recently, they saved me over $4,000 on a repair to my Cadillac. The GM dealership in Okemos wanted to put a used part (that I didnt need) in my car, charge me $3,000. Then replace two other parts (that I didnt need) for another $1,100. None of which would have fixed the ACTUAL problem that A&J diagnosed, and fixed for a FAIR price, in no time flat.Thanks guys!

Highly recommended.Update: I am absolutely convinced that these are the sharpest mechanics in Lansing. They have routinely found issues that other shops have missed entirely. Every time I bring a problem to them they have been able to find it extraordinary quickly and have been gracious about doing so. I cannot recommend this business enough.

It was a little bit more expensive then what we originally talked about, they also had a little bit of trouble with their supplier finding a manual transmission, but overall they did a phenomenal job Id recommend them to anybody. They also took care of a couple of lights that I had going off on the dash for no extra charge, my car definitely runs a lot smoother and shifts a lot easier than what it did. Even though there was a couple of hiccups, Id give them 10 stars without a doubt.

I landed here on the highest of recommendations so much so that I had my Ford Excursion towed 95 miles to get it here! I couldnt be happier with the service I received and the knowledge they have about transmissions. I will not recommend this place I paid $820 for them to fix my transmission pan cause it had a cracked pan and was leaking. They fixed it and the same day I pick it up my car starts knocking and it shut off in a parking spot. My car had never done that before. It was after I picked my car up from A and J that all of that started. Do not waste your time nor money going there..

I was not impressed with A&J Transmission at all. I told the counter person what was wrong with my transmission including it would not go into reverse. He told me to bring the car in so I did. Three days later he told me that the car would not go into reverse and would need a different transmission. I asked if he pulled the pan or valve body. He said nope just put it in reverse. He quoted me a price of $2800 for a used transmission installed. He still charged me $100+ for the inspection that took him all of three minutes and he could have done over the phone.The owner of A&J called me and apologized for the misunderstanding. He offered a refund of my diagnostic fee. Actually I am impressed with his personalized service and sense of fairness. I would consider going back to A&J again.

Took my 03 buick lesabre to get fixed multiple times here. I would have gave a 5 star review but one of the mechanics tried to get me to replace something that was perfectly fine. Luckily i took it to get a second opinion and they said it was perfectly fine. It might have just been that one mechanic but come on! Never again

The mechanics here are quite knowledgeable, Travis to be specific gave me the time to expertly explain what could be wrong with my transmission. I had a 30 day warranty for a car I just bought and was concerned about a certain symptom. Travis took the time to road test it and run his diagnostic reader to pull up any trouble codes for free. He said I shouldnt be worried about it but I paid him to change the transmission fluid anyway. Its a good idea to let them look inside the transmission if youre concerned because they can easily tell if there are signs of abnormal wear. He did this and gave me great peace of mind by saying he saw no reason to replace any transmission parts. This demonstrated his honesty which goes a long way with a mechanic to save money. Highly recommend A&J transmission for their experience and honesty.

They did not do a good job on rebuilding my transmission this time. I had to go back five times in 11 days and they didnt even fix it and quit even trying. Travis said that since my SUV was a AWD it was finicky working on. Travis would not acknowledge he wasnt going to fix it and refused to refund my $2948.47! I had my SUV towed from A&J to Merrill Ford a authorized Dealer. Merrill Ford had their transmission specialist check it out. He said the following in his report: VEHICLE LURCHES/ CATCHES DURING ACCELERATION. MONITORED PIDS WHILE TEST DRIVING AND FOUND TRANS TO BE DOWN SHIFTING FROM 4TH TO 3RD GEAR ON ACCELERATION DUE TO LOSS OF PRESSURE OF THE OVERDRIVE CLUTCH CIRCUIT CONTROLLED BY SHIFT SOLENOID. AN INTERNAL LEAK IS PRESENT AND WOULD REQUIRE REMOVAL AND DISASSEMBLY OF THE TRANSMISSION TO LOCATE. RECOMMEND NOT TO DRIVE VEHICLE UNTIL CONDITION IS RESOLVED TO AVOID ANYMORE INTERNAL DAMAGE. SO IT IS OBVIOUS THAT TRAVIS AND A&J DID NOT FIX TRANSMISSION. BUT TRAVIS REFUSED TO RETURN THE REDICULOUS $2948.47 THAT HE CHARGED ME! I am going to have the transmission fixed elsewhere properly. I have complained to my Visa company to deny the charge made by Travis at A&J. They will decide if they should take the money from A&Js account and refund to me. I have been there twice before and had two transmissions rebuilt in 3 days perfectly. John the owner was there 13 years ago he was very honest. I made the wrong mistake assuming that A&J was still a honest business now that John is retired. Unfortunately Travis is NOT HONEST AND WILL SHAFT THE CUSTOMERS.I HAVE FILED A COMPLAINT AGAINST A&J AT THE FOLLOWING:1) BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU2) ATTORNEY GENERAL:CONSUMER PROTECTION.3) MICHIGAN SECRETARY STATE:WHO LICENSE AUTO REPAIRFACILITIES LIKE A&JTRANSMISSIONS.4) FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION5) DISTRICT CIVIL COURTLANSING, MICHIGAN LAWSUIT.I WOULD RECOMMEND TOFUTURE CUSTOMERS TO THINKTWICE ABOUT DOING BUSINESSWITH A&J.! After another shop diagnosed my problem as a bell housing replacement I sought a second diagnosis. Not only did they find the correct reason for the miss diagnosis, they replaced it for over a thousand dollars cheaper then previously quoted. A nd j are trust worthy mechanics which are hard to find nowadays. They fixed everything in a costly and timely manner.

I got a flat on the expressway and pulled into their business late at night and left my car there. They let me leave it there for 2 days, went through efforts to re-park it when they didnt have my key, got out old equipment to find the leak, put my spare on for me, called a local tire shop to see if they could find me a cheap used tire, and they didnt charge me a dime for all their helpful services! They dont deal in tire repair, but they helped me free of charge without complaint. They seem like a very humble and honest business. I thank them!

Best of the best, took my 2008 Saturn vue many different places for estimates in the lansing area and these guys were by far the cheapest to rebuild the transmission due to the failure of a wave plate, they had the car in and out within about 3 days and also picked it up for free as it was not drivable, 8 months later reverse seemed to hesitate so I brought it In and they honored their Warranty no questions asked, everything is running strong almost a year later! Highly recommended

They told me to be there between 830 -900 when I got there I still had a long wait time and John was very rude calling me a liar saying I was suppose to be there at 815 even I was they still would not have been ready! Wth??Hope they repair better than their customer service!

Great place to get your car worked on

Used to recommend them, no longer. They damaged my vehicle by snapping pieces off of my bumper on both sides (that was repaired). Three seperate occasions continued to reattach a broken vacuum line causing me to return for service blaming other issues. They cut wires for the back light of my instrument cluster, stuffed a screw in a vacuum line instead of reattaching it, pulled my aftermarket car alarm antenna apart and charged me double my original quote, left a giant gap on the left side exhaust manifold and charged me for exhaust work... the list continues to grow. Not sure what happened to the quality of service I used to receive here, but it deeply saddens me that I can no longer trust them.

Horrible excuse for a repair shop. Was treated very rudely by the gentleman at the front counter after being told my car hadnt even been looked at. Then, after being a dick, the man tells me theyll get the o ring replaced within the hour. Get a call 45minutes later (at 545 pm on a Friday, after being in their shop since noon the day before and being told itd be done by 5 today) that the frame is too rusted and they cant do anything. Dont take your vehicle here unless you have lots of time to waste.

My sons truck developed transmission problems last week. He goes to MSU and we are in the Detroit area, which means I had no idea which shop would be best to handle this job. After reading a few online reviews, I gave A&J a shot. Boy, am I glad I did!After having a chance to inspect my sons truck (a 14 year old GMC), Alan called me with the bad news--a rebuild was needed. Alan took the time needed to explain what was needed, and when it would be done. He further explained the three year warranty that comes with the repair. He also noted that a power steering hose was leaking, which would ruin the new power steering pump installed by Bud Kouts Chevrolet just three months ago (I am disappointed Kouts did not replace this hose with the others, but that is another story). I had them replace that leaking hose.Candidly, I was apprehensive taking the truck to an independent shop in a town far from home. Alan and John were terrific to deal with and provided me with an excellent value with the repairs performed. While I hate having to pay someone else to do vehicle repairs, I will definitely send my son back to A&J if anything else happens while in the Lansing area.

Horrible!!! The last 2 times, I left my car at A & J, the car hadnt even by touched be the end of the day. Had the employee at the front desk argue with me and did not even receive an apology for the inconvenience. Specifically asked to make appointments both times but was told to just drop it off. The last appointment was the worst, as they kept parts that I had brought in to have them put on the vehicle! BEWARE of this business!
