I would say this place is definitely more than just a music store as it has a plentiful amount of merch, posters, art, equipment and even tech for music and entertainment.Anime and children sections for those who enjoy animation. Graphic novels too.Old movies on discount and soundtracks, records. VHS, blue Ray, VCR, etc.Prices are varied but seem mostly reasonable.Random events take place here that can included signings.Staff is friendly and available to help.Parking available around but beware of those 30dollar spots. You can def do better, just bring some quarters.
An amazing rebirth of the Amoeba record store on Hollywood Blvd after the original location closed down. This location is expansive and has everything from new an old collectible records, 45 record sets, LP record package sets, CDs, and some interesting 8 track record sets. There is a nice selection of music books as well. The store features validated parking as well. Come and spend an hour and enjoy this phenomenal store which bucks all trends and provides a superior music shopping experience!
Cool place!! It was hot as hades inside, which made it to where I rushed to get out, so I didnt get to take it all in. It was very well laid out, so much to see and take in. Absolutely what a record store should be like. We bought a couple LPs while we were there. Glad we stopped in. Love how everything was decorated too. So appealing to the eyes!
It was a warm Sunday in Hollywood. I had just finished singing with summer choir. I had music on my mind. Having not yet visited the new Hollywood Boulevard location of Amoeba Music, I sought to discover its unearthed secrets. I rounded the block and found an open metered parking space...there was an hour left on the meter...Oh Joy! As I approached the entrance at the corner of Argyle, I noticed the poster informing visitors of the 75 minutes of free parking beneath the building that Amoeba will validate for, with purchase of an item.Ⓜ️ Amoeba Music is conveniently located across the street from Hollywood / Vine Metro-B-Line (Red) Subway Station 🚇There was a doorman present to ensure the currently mandated indoor mask requirements were enforced. Walking in, I was immediately swept-up into the same energetically-charged atmospheric waves that I had always learned to love while visiting this musical sacred space, now relocated.Vinyl is my thing, and I was not disappointed to see that more that 1/4 of the entire vast space was dedicated to this, my beloved esoteric, and nearly antiquated, but never absolescent art form. I dove into the clearance section and coming up for air... soon realized that the time left on the meter was not nearly enough to slake my thirst ⏺️ :-)
I was in town from Ohio and I always try to stop in. Hell, I rented a car for the day and to go here was one of the reasons I did!New location is very nice! You can park in the garage (off of Argyle)in the same building and they will validate your parking with a purchase. The store is very clean and organized. They do charge for bags (10 cents). I didnt care but if you would you may want to pass because they dont mention it. Bags should be free with purchase but then again it is Hollywood right? 😁The staff was very friendly and helpful. They did allow me to look at a CD. If something could be an issue like the condition of the CD etc. They will mention it and allow you to look at it. Im glad I did because even though you can return it. I wasnt going to be able to since I did not live there.Great store and its definitely worth a visit if youre in town. I always do. Youll probably spend money there because youll find something you havent seen before. Im a collector, I already own a lot. I usually find something to buy. You probably will too.
Hey Amoeba! Not only is this popular long standing business thriving at its new location its jam packed full of music, movie and entertainment enthusiasts from all over the world. The layout is massive and lively and fairly easy to get around except for the fact that there is no capacity limit being enforced at the moment and the ventilation system is on the fritz... Minor inconveniences aside, the service is top notch and the selection are wonderful.Amoeba has an impressive catalog of delights including books, candles, collectibles, magnets, pins, posters, and one-of-fews. Some of the best deals on movies, albums and cds youll ever find not just in Hollywood/Los Angeles but in California. They checkout is pretty efficient and very library style once you complete your purchase as to not set off sensors. They do accept lots of second hand or used items in good condition and aside from some temperature issues provide a great atmosphere for all.
Monday 9/14/21: no wait anymore, few people in store on a Monday afternoon. Things almost seem normal (except for the mask), but thats forever in LA now. Also forever is the increasing homeless crisis, they were on the block, and in nooks and stairwells and wandering around in the 75 minute validated garage (staffed!) which I have never seen in a staffed garage in any city in the world. The completely corrupt leaders of LA keep building high density housing for the rich with insufficient parking while ignoring your safety, but since its a one party city and state nothing will ever change. Next time (if there is one) Ill park at a meter so I at least can more easily see my surroundings when I get out of my car. Dont have anything visible in your car and dont carry cash.I wish this wasnt true.Tuesday 4/6/21 11:30 AM: 90 minute wait to enter. No bathroom when you get in, you are warned. Theyre allowing under 100 in the store at once currently (Occupancy is 500 and 250 in this tier). Shopped for a little over an hour, so my parking was $15 after validation.Very happy to see the friendly faces back at work, and several noted how comfortable the staff is with the customer limits. Right now the only crowd is a long line to get in.Still interesting stuff to browse and buy, still good deals to be had. I still spent too much. There was a shorter line when I left at 2:15, an hour wait to enter. You are certifiably insane if you come here on a weekend. I honestly dont know when I will go back with an hour drive, that line, the ridiculously overpriced parking, and no bathroom. Hollywood is an enormous trash heap now, tents surround Tommys, but mysteriously, not Amoeba...those streets are clean and patrolled by their security. So you decide. Dont crush that fun, hand me the pliers.Who am I kidding? Ill go back when a sweet girl wants to go with me. And update this to best record store in the world and five stars. 🤣Opening day review: Come back in a few weeks; if you dont get in its $3/20 minutes in their lot; if you do (and make a purchase) only 75 total minutes is validated. You might have luck early (11) on a weekday, but until they feel safe (see the screenshot of their Variety interview) you may well feel frustrated.Older reviews are for a vanished place and experience. Look at their Twitter before you go.
I love this store, great selection of music but that DVD section is why I go there for 👍🏻They let you use your camaraSTAFF is very helpfulCan spend hours here hahaSpacious and organizedGood location, I dont know about parking but its right next to the metro station which is convenient. They check your bags on the way out.
This is a great place to find some rare collectibles. We went to buy used PS4 games but the collection is huge in this store. If you are a music fan, you must go there. I have also seen cassettes and CDs which are very rare. For rarest music items we should visit this place 💯
Amoeba Musics new West Hollywood location is a dream for music lovers. The walls of the store are adorned with band posters, neon art, and vinyl records, creating a punky ambiance. On my trip, we ended up purchasing a The Smiths shirt and a collection of Allen Ginsberg’s poetry. While Amoeba’s line often stretches down the city block, we went on early Wednesday afternoon and was able to walk right in. This local record store really allows customers to feel connected to the physical music they’re buying, as opposed to today’s streaming apps. Amoeba has something for everyone, and we would definitely recommend checking out the new location.
Had a lot of fun exploring the store. Lots of cool stuff and a huge variety of music and merch. A little bit of a walk from the main part of Hollywood Blvd. It was a weekend, so it was crowded but the workers were all very nice and my friends and I did a spend at least an hour going through the music and other miscellaneous stuff.
Not a big music head, but not a bad place to see what your friends like and have a conversation while browsing. Decent music selection, decent prices
Amoeba is the best! Staff is friendly and knowledgeable, if they dont know the answer theyll help find someone who will. You never know what youll find at Amoeba
Love the new location. The interior looks exactly like the old place and will make you feel like youre back there. Great selection of music and movies. Always love coming here to look for some hard to find stuff.
Since the original location, I never thought it would come back. But today was my first time revisiting Amoeba in its new location. Im soooo happy!! Lol...
Shopping experience:This place is an absolute assault on your senses. The minute you walk in you have this overwhelming feeling of the nightmare it would be to *try* and see everything in this place. There is so much stuff here! Its well organized and they have a little bit of everything, from music, movies, toys, games, etc. I love coming here for the movies, I sometimes find out of print movies here and thats awesome!Pricing:Pricing is very fair. For every bad deal you find in this store, youll find a really GOOD deal on something. I was surprised I was able to walk away with some 4K blurays for under $10 bucks each! They also have really reasonable prices on shirts as well, you can easily find shirts for under $20 bucks.Customer Service:Although it is hard to get a hold of someone, the fact that they have stations around the store of people waiting to help you is awesome. I asked a person at the desk where the horror movies were and he was able to help me very quickly. Awesome experience shopping here. Shop Amoeba!!
Love Amoeba; always have. Such a wonderful place and iconic institution.
Amazing, Amazing store. Special shout out to employee Chris (Hollywood) who is one of the best record store employees in the country for today. He helped out an older man with special needs pick out his favorite albums even though the man wasn’t even able to make it into the store. Chris was kind enough to come outside and help him & then bring all his items to him with kindness. Woah, one of the most rock n roll selfless acts I’ve ever witnessed. What a class act and he did it all through the kindness of his soul and love for a fellow record store lover. Seriously, that was a really cool thing to have done for a stranger. Kudos to Chris from Amoeba Music 🎶
I love it here!! Best record store in all of human history 🔥🔥🔥
The new location is smaller but frankly it is far better laid out. You might have to park far away to get decent parking prices, but thats your only fallback. Take the Dash or your bicycle in
I visited with a friend who collects vinyl albums. together we found several great quality used LPS and all were less than $2 each. great place to spend your time at!!!
Instantly took me back to the 90s. Hanging out in record stores for hours on end digging through records and CDs. Sigh. This location was pretty busy, so during Covid times you will have to be patient if youre wanting to social distance. They have a good selection of new/used music, memorabilia, t-shirts, etc.
Love shopping for music & video entertainment here. Great for hard to find titles, DVDs, movies, old TV series as well as foreign sellections for those of us into that. parking is no longer free so make arrangements ahead of time if you intend to dig through a good amount to find what youre looking for unexpectedly coming accross.
Its been forever since weve been into a music store. This place is huge and has an insane collection. Got a limited edition Faith No More vinyl from Germany!! 🤘🏿🤘🏼🤘
This is a Hollywood institution. In the age of digital this place acts as a both a store and a museum. Prices are incredibly low. And literally have everything. I bought more out of nostalgia than function. But happy with all purchases.
Vinyl Heaven. Thought I was 40 years younger.
On the days of streaming media, Who would have thought there are stores selling CDs and Vinyls? Well Amoeba is one such store and it is thriving! This location is right in the Hollywood area and has amazing size. The staff is friendly and helpful. The store is huge! Checkout my photos. Their inventory is huge with an isle just for movie soundtracks! If you are looking for a CD or a vinyl and cant find it anywhere, you have a good chance of finding it here.
Tons of records! Tons of shirts! Tons of CDs, books, movies — you name it and Im sure Amoeba has it. They stock an impressive catalog of things a modern listener and/or collector would be on the lookout for. Check out the walls for rare records and promo posters from bygone eras. This place is a must-stop for music and pop culture fans.
Weve been by a few times while up in LA and the line is always super long to get in. This time we finally timed it right and was a le to walk right in. Amoeba Music is a music lovers dream! Full of records, new and used, band tees and everything you can imagine this store is amazing. It was very busy but the employees are all so nice and helpful, very knowledgeable. There were a few records we were looking for that werent in stock but we also got a few that we found we would not have thought to buy online. Checkout line moved quickly and prices are decent compared to other record places. Amoeba is the next best thing since Tower. So much fun to checkout and shop!
I could stay for hours and spend all my money. The mecca of record stores. Amazing friendly and helpful staff.
Been a customer here for 13 years and the love for the establishment never goes away. They moved to a different location, but everything from vinyl records (organized in different sections in different genres), merchandising, posters, dvds (I know its streaming now so spare the rod), books/magazines, and other memorabilia is what makes Amoeba still on top. Might ve bought my first few records there from them at their old location but its a treat being there. Definitely recommend to all my record shoppers 💯
The record store is not dead! Great place to browse old and new discs both vinyl and plastic, blurays, 45s, T-shirts, and stuff. Free validated parking. Big new location worth a regular visit.
We were customers since the original open up. Great service. Best place to find albums.
Legendary for a reason. loved their online store, surprised how phenomenal their selections are at the brick and mortar. Amazing and friendly staff and they validate parking 😎
So much amazing stuff! I could probably spend all day in this store! Loved it!
Love it good vibe, its a must go record store you will find everything you need on music 🎵🎶 here every artist they have it all and even collectibles and to hey buy your stuff too thats awesome love this store..
Nice but no arca :(
Traveled to Hollywood and had to visit. Very cool experience. Staff was very helpful and friendly. Huge selection and very affordable.
Do NOT take a bicycle there, no bike stands any thing remotely close to being safe to lock a bike to (unless you want to lock it to a tree) theres nothing TO lock a bike to.
Great store! Miss the old location but the new building seems almost the same size! Glad its still here in Hollywood!
Great place! Very iconic building. Only thing that can improve is the parking can be difficult to find if it’s crowded
Say it twice but always loved this place. bought a record me and my wife made love to later that night so you could say it was memorable
Beautiful place that still sells vinyl and CD
This historic landmark is a must visit for all music lovers and tourist huge selection of music in all forms cd cassette vinyl etc and also a large selection of movies as well. They have some cool memorabilia and t shirts pins I stopped by one day after catching a movie down the street especially since reading a article that they had plans to relocate. I really recommend all to come visit this place before they shut it down a iconic place in Hollywood.
First time in since theyve moved. I dont know... It just didnt have the same atmosphere. HOWEVER, Amoeba is Amoeba. You can find just about anything here and get lost in the stacks finding new discoveries. The staff is always knowledgeable and excited to recommend their picks. (Why they dont have a dedicated Lubitsch section under directors is beyond me, though.)
Best in the west SF and Berkeley stores top notch too but LAs back in business Excellent new local on Hollywood and Vine next to Metrolink Worth an hour or two of your time
Not the same as the old one, maybe Im being sentimental. But you definitely can find everything you looking for..
Dream world for music lovers especially if you are looking to expand your vinyl collection. The prices are on par with the market and not cheaper. The sections are well labeled and kept clean. There is enough support staff around the corner to clarify any of your queries. I expected a bit more used vinyls but I guess they dont remain that long when they reach the store. Parking space underground is massive and free for customers. I could easily spend 2-3 hours without getting bored for a moment. There are some rare pieces ingood condition if you research well. They have smartly kept a used book section for anyone accompanying you who might not enjoy going through music or movies. Dont expect any space to sit or rest, guess only true music lovers are expected who dont have any time to rest when they see the massive repository.
What a wide range of books, movies, records, cds and more! I was impressed with the large Criterion Collection of movies 🍿
I miss the old location but the new one is not bad. Just have to get use to it. The store is spacious. It also has a stage like to old one. I feel they are selling more t shirts than before. Found parking on the street but I heard that they do have parking and I saw a lot behind the store. They do have a line to get in but it moves pretty fast.
Record nerd better schedule a whole day to shop! Astounding, amazing place!!!
This place had everything you can imagine from soul to jazz th and every and anything in between. The cost was reasonable and the staff was excellent, professional, and very helpful. The lines were long but moved fast. I Notice you can exchange your music Im not sure exactly but people had bags of music bringing them in and we were taking them out😭. Believe me everything you need is there.
Love this place everytime I go I find somthing I cant even get online
Great selection of music (all genres and recording types)
Was like going back to the 90s when I worked in a record store. Really miss these places. There was so much stuff to look at could spend hours here.
It is a cool record shop. It have all the 🎵 records back in the 1970-1990 and also a CD music, movies, tv on DVD 📀 and more and your favorite singers posters.
Picked up a couple CDs. Pretty chill vibes. Enjoyed my time here.
As a vinyl lover, this place is awesome! I’m so over the streaming/downloading thing – so coming here is such a pleasure. There’s just something special about begin able to walk around a music store and browse tens of thousands of titles. They have tons of hard to find albums here. Always a treat.
Outstanding place to go back in time and remember vinyls. The selection is above average in regards to records. Also included in this very special store are CDs, DVDs, and Blue Rays. There are so many things to see that youll have to go back two or three times. A must see place to visit.
Its not like the old one but they still had what I was looking for . great place to shop for music and other pop culture items.. Love how helpful the staff is. Great job guys..
The new location is awesome! Everything is set up to be easy to find and spaced out enough to where you dont feel like you are shoulder to shoulder with other guest. The staff there is great as well!! Worth the visit if you are in LA!
They have everything you want from music to books. im not a music expert so i only looked at the books and they were cheap and good quality. my sibling said they had a lot of their favourite artists for a good price. not terrible, but a little expensive.
Very cool place. Love the quantity of used vinyl. Nice assortment of clothing and merch. Could browse for hours.
Great store, one of a kind but I’m sorry they should not have given up their old location. Their old location was better, the building was nicer, the exterior art and sign were unique unlike any other. This new location sucks and so does the exterior decor...blends in and does not stand out. Very dull.
Great, new location on the corner Hollywood and Argyle. The store was clean and spread out, fully stocked. Parking was suspect, I parked on Hollywood
Amazing music and video store. An LA icon. And a must see for our of town visitors.
I dont even have a turntable and I LOVE going to Amoeba. Its always playing good music and buzzing with good vibes. Im a graphic designer, so I love digging through the bins and getting inspiration. The world music section is my favorite. I wish they did movie rentals, but that would take twice the space I suppose. Amoeba is iconic for a reason, and everyone who listens to music should pay a visit.
Eclectic collection of music and movies. Posters, books, and assorted candles.
One of the last great record stores in all of Los Angeles... this place is a music/movie paradise! to all of the vinyl junkies out there this is your happy place! also did you know that you can even buy tickets to local concerts at any cash register?HINT: you will need to BLOCK OFF about an hour or 2 or 5 (depending on your thirst for hunting down your favorite record or movie) because this place is a welcomed commitment...
Rare vinyl records of every genre, posters galore for every taste. Concerts, movies, shows, Psychedelic, Bands, Classic rock posters. You name it they have the poster. Series used new trade it buy. Tee shirts, hoodies. Also of every genres. Pins, stickers, patches. And the selection of all these things are enormous! I bought a Miles Davies Hollywood concert poster and a Runaways poster. But trust me I could have bought more. Bring music to trade in And shop around with your store credit. Highly recommend for all music Lovers.+++++
Amazing store with great employees and service. Great selection of records, t-shirts and posters. Favorite record store we have ever been to, Waterloo Austin a close 2nd.
New location on Hollywood Blvd. Is MUCH Smaller than the old Sunset Location, and has lost a lot of the personality of that location, but still has a pretty decent selection... Know youre prices before you go though. Some used vinyl was incredibly overpriced (like up to 4-5 times eBay prices) but you can still find some deals if you look hard enough.
Im not into new locations for nostalgia reasons, but Amoeba has a cool new look and I found myself wanting everything in the store!
So many cool things from vinyls CDs comic books posters and books
Had to visit the new location and enjoy the selection and absorb the positive music vibe
