I don’t recommend this guy, I took my brand new bike to his shop for a tune up first of all he didn’t fix it at all and also he put a big scratch on it. Don’t go there

This shop has been here since I was a kid. They moved to the current location off Piedmont Avenue from the Avenue decades ago. I remember when Edmond was a teenaged employee then later took over the business from his old boss, the original owner, 25 or so years ago. He has been consistently honest, with reasonable rates. He is a great guy, who does things right, the old fashioned way. If it can be fixed or adjusted, he will fix or adjust vs trying to hawk unnecessary high priced components. When my little sis did an AIDS Ride from the Bay to LA back in the day, he tuned the heck out of her bike for the grueling ride and did it for so little, the only logical conclusion we could reach was that Edmond was supporting the cause in his way. You can feel good about doing business with this neighborhood fixture.

Edmond is the friendliest shop owner and repair guy. I know nothing about bikes but needed a repair since it is my mode of transportation for school. He didn’t pressure me into buying anything and definitely did not overcharge me for the service. I’m happy that I went to Oakland to his shop even though there are many bike repair shops in Berkeley. I will continue to do so and highly recommend him if you’re needing a repair.

If you are looking for a hipster trendy bike shop go elsewhere. Edmond is the real deal. My kinda place. Small, crowded with a guy you can tell has been at his trade for a long time.

I took my bike here to get it serviced. I think its just one guy that runs the shop and fixes bikes. The shop is packed almost to the point of claustrophobia, but they really do an excellent job for very reasonable prices. I found him to be very honest and helpful. He helped me load my bike into my car and explained how to reattach the wheels when I got home. Highly recommend.

I was looking for some new tires that could stand up to these well groomed streets of Oakland😩. For some reason, most bike shops are closed on Tuesdays.... Luckily for me, Pioneer Bike Shop was open. I stopped in only 45 min before they closed at 6pm, (and by they I mean just one, hard working, respectful, and very helpful gentleman known as Ed), and I was welcomed to come in. I was given an assortment of options varying from quality and price to choose from. After making my decision, my bike was taken to the back and its brand new pair of shoes were put on quicker than you can say, chicken burrito supreme. No kidding, it took less than 4 min for both tires, a little grease for my chain, and a perfect alignment. Well done good sir! I was back on my bike and on my way before 5:35pm. It was a pleasure doing business, and there is no one else Id rather give my money to. Highly recommended to true bikers. People that want their bike repaired while they go on vacation, or that will let it sit after, disregard everything Ive said 😅!You are FREAKIN AWESOME ED! Thanks and I will be back.

Bike shops come in a lot of flavors. Hipster hangouts, corporate cash grabs, and old school local guys... Pioneer is firmly in that last group. The owner will fix what you bring him without selling you what you dont need. This isnt a place to bring you $10000 carbon fiber baby with electronic shifting, they just arent about cutting edge like that. But for the normal person who needs a tune up or an accessory, its a nice, low key place to go.

I have done business with Edmond for over thirty-fives years.My experience of doing business with him sets a very high standard for customer service. I have many different experiences with Edmond regarding the Bicycles that I use. His knowledgeable and insightful have always been of benefit to me. I intend to continue doing business with Edmund as long as I use a bike.

It might just be the best bike store I have ever been to, and I have been to many. Great quality and excellent prices. Edmond only sells you what you need. I thought I needed new tires but after examining them, he said I didnt need any, and explained my repeated flats are probably caused by the wrong strap inside the rim to cover the spoke-holes.He even installed it himself on both tires, and changed the flats for a reasonable fee in just 30 minutes (because he had other customers).The small store is packed with bikes and boxes, well worth the visit.Definitely coming here again if I need anything bike-related.

Every time I go the service is fast and affordable. The guy who runs the shop is one of the nicest and most knowledgeable bike mechanics in the world. The guy up the street is a jerk. If you are in the piedmont area this is the only place to go!!!

Been going here several years. Fantastic alternative to all of the high priced, sell you a new part / bike instead of fix the old one shops. Work is always done quickly and for a fair price. Highly recommended.

Edmond is an amazing mechanic. He tuned up my 2 bikes (Neil Pryde Diablo & old school Univega) to run like new! With the Neil Pryde, there was a design defect with the brake cable tapping against the top tube of the inside of the carbon frame. Edmond engineered a crafty solution of pinning said brake cable with a piece of foam by entering the frame through the headset. That much work just to silence an annoying brake cable is the type of mastery and dedication to excellence that youll experience at the Pioneer Bike Shop. My favorite shop & mechanic!
