Recently rented a pair of mountain bikes. Shelly and staff were great and bikes worked good on the local trails. Very positive experience and will definitely return next time I visit to ride the trails!
This is a great local bike shop in Philadelphia. I asked the shop to replace my bikes handlebars, but I had a budget. The shop was very responsive to my concerns, found me (a student) affordable bars, called me when they noticed some cables had to be replaced and answered some questions I had about fenders! I highly recommend this bike shop: great service and advice.
Super nice and knowledgeable! Really appreciated their help
I had a great experience with this store. Jonas and Shelley were extremely knowledgeable and friendly. I would highly recommend you go them if you need help!
Can’t recommend this shop enough - the team went above and beyond to help me pick the perfect bike and brand for my needs, helped me navigate ordering, and went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable before I left, taking the time to patiently fit me during the beginning of the snowstorm last week. As a first time bike owner, I really appreciated all the help and that they made me feel comfortable every step of the way (even answering all my dumb questions)! Thank you!
I love this local bike shop. Excellent workExcellent people
Fairly priced..very knowledgeable about bikes ..honest ..enjoy taking my bike there for any needs
Very patient and very helpful No pressure to buy things Only service the things that I need it The shop has such a friendly environment Im buying my Gravel buy from there
Buying a bike during shelter-in-place when you cant go into the shop and touch/feel/test ride bicycles could have been a really frustrating process with terrible results, but Shelly and team at Fairmount Bicycles made it so easy. I didnt really know what I was looking for or even how to describe what little I knew I wanted in my bike, but Shelly parsed my ideas into a great recommendation for a bike that met my needs as a beginner, but which will give me a lot of longevity as my experience grows. She was incredibly communicative, informative, and responsive (and friendly!) via email and phone, and we were able to choose the right bike for me, together, all done virtually. When shipping was effected because of the virus, she also worked with me to come up with solutions to get me on a bike while we we waited for delivery. Highly, highly recommend, and cant wait to get into the shop once it can safely re-open.
They are awesome! very helpful patient and kind and very knowledgeable about bycles.
Great neighborhood shop for parts and service! Went in for a new wheel on my touring bike and the staff gave me several options that fit my budget and were very patient with my annoying questions. Not a huge inventory of bikes, but inventory can be found on their website. Would highly recommend Fairmount Bicycles for service, parts, and just generally pleasant people who love bikes.
My bike was stolen so I needed a new bike. I used the email on Fairmount Bicycles website and was surprised to get a response within 20 mins! Shelley was so nice and really walked me through my options! She wanted to make sure I made the best choice for my new purchase and encouraged fair-priced options. She really made the process easy and stress-free, even sending me links to different parts/options so I could look over them as we spoke on the phone. I’m soo impressed with the customer service and cannot thank Shelly enough! Can’t wait to use my new bike!!
This is a FANTASTIC place. I love riding bikes, but dont know much about maintenance. I had a cruiser for two years that got HEAVILY abused on the mean Philly streets. It needed several things done, so I brought my poor cycle in right around noon on Feb 4th. They tuned up and fixed the bike for cheap on the same day I had brought it in for just over $100. So kind and professional about it, too. Keep it up guys. :-)
Easily one of the best shops in Philadelphia and probably elsewhere too. A dedication to quality, service, integrity, and equity. Nice selection of Jamis bikes and fun used bikes. Fun and cool group rides too.
Had a great experience. As soon as I walked in Jenny came out to greet me and couldn’t have been more polite and helpful. I think I was a pretty easy customer, I already kinda knew what I wanted, but she wasn’t pushy or trying to up-sell me on anything. The shop is a little small but they have a pretty decent selection and a good price range. Thanks a lot for the bike!
Best local bike store, Shelly truly went above and beyond for me. If you need to rent a bike or get something fixed this is the place to go!
Excellent services, and amazingly kind staff. I went in for a minor adjustment for my bike and they took such good care of me. Definitely recommend for all your biking needs.
They know their stuff!
I have lived in the neighborhood for a little bit over a year. My wife and I use our bikes for local transportation and for adventures. I truly felt that the personnel at Fairmount Bicycles were professional, honest and priced very fairly. The experience that I had reinforced the reason I moved to this wonderful neighborhood. I felt that the service, pricing and courtesy given to my family was outstanding and I would highly recommend bringing your bike to this shop in the event you have any questions or need work performed. Allen
I have been to this shop for multiple repairs on my bike. The staff is very friendly, knowledgeable and fast. My neighbors go there all the time, and several of my friends and neighbors have purchased great bikes from there. The bike pictured is the one I take there (which I purchased somewhere else) but when I get another bike, I will definitely purchase it from this shop. They dont charge a lot for repairs. If something they took care of needs tweaking, they have done it for free. I feel confident recommending them to my friends & coworkers who go green, commuting by bike in the city. They are the best! - Chris
I have been to several bike shops in Philly but this was the best.I was new to riding, so I was in the hands of bike shops, who could have misinformed me quite easily. A different shop tried to get me to test a $600 new bike on South Street in rush hour, when I said I hadnt ridden for over 10 years and was slightly terrified! Added to that, if I scratched it I would have to pay. I decided not to go on the test run and gave the bike back to them, cheeks burning a little. Got no acknowledgement, so I left the store.Fast forward to walking into Fairmount Bicycles. I had their attention from the moment I walked in; they talked me down from a new expensive bike that was not right for me, and helped me pick out what I needed and why. I ended up getting a used lil cruiser from them, after a stress-free test run. Ive since been back many times, and theyre always friendly and fast. My bike is perfect for me and I didnt overpay!10/10, A+
Very nice people. They are extremely good at bicycle repairs and maintenance. Their prices are reasonable. They will let you inflate your tires for free. A nice bike shop with highly skilled bicycle men and women.
Knowledgeable, helpful and friendly staff. I’ve utilized their services for tune ups over the years, and my old Panasonic always felt like new after their wrenching. Recently, I decided to upgrade, and of course, went to Fairmount. They ordered my Surly Crosscheck, and had it assembled in a couple of days. Couldn’t recommend more.
Everyone was great. Kyler was very nice in explaining the repairs I needed. Shelly was very helpful and thorough- quite knowledgeable- when I came back with follow up questions.
Came in with an emergency when my chain popped off randomly, they were super friendly and fast with the fix! Love Fairmount and Brewerytown Bicycles so much! Best in Philadelphia hands down
Fairmount Bicycles are the kindest and most patient folks you could ever hope to meet, and it just so happens that theyre certified cycle-Jedi as well. Wether its the impeccably curated selection of products, or the masterful and speedy repair services you require, Fairmount Bicycles couldnt come with a higher recommendation from this veteran cyclist; there arent enough stars.
I arrived in philly from Minneapolis yesterday and the airline lost a bolt for my Bob stroller. Fairmount bicycles found a bolt that would work and also tighten all the other bolts so it would hopefully not happen on the flight home. This was a life saver since the stroller would not fold without it. Thank you for all your help. If you need a bike or repair for even a jogging stroller they are amazing!
Very knowledgable andv helpful !
I have never felt more respected as a customer or appreciated by any business ever.I would rate this shop 6/5 stars if I could.Do you have an interest in bicycling or know anyone who does? Take the time to stop by Fairmount Ave and visit this amazing store.~Alex# of visits: 6-10+# bikes/components purchased from vendor: 3-5. I complete all of my maintenance to my two (2) bikes at this location. Have bought a complete frame & components from the shop; a wheel/tire, a few maintenance visits. Each time better than the last as I continue to familiarize myself with bicycling and my equipment.Major pro: The best service you may find in Pennsylvania; most assuredly in the area. A true community place - a testament not only to the talent of the management and staff but the exceptional pricing and selection of available inventory on-hand or an order away. I have been literally cautioned against buying a certain component at Fairmount Bicycles and told where else within Philly I should buy a better version instead (this was a specialized BMX component I was attempting to match to a Frankenbike and the store suggested a great local BMX shop) - tell me please what other business provides that level of service to their customers within any industry?Major con (not honestly even sure that this is a bad thing): Shop can get busy, especially around peak season. Because its staffed by amazing human beings the crew isnt your typical commercial deal per se with a blinding showroom and large, mostly idle group - if they get busy, they stay busy until what they are working on is taken care of. Its all good ... do yourself a favor and call ahead (you will be greeted in a lovely way), educate yourself where possible, and know what you need going in. With this said ... any of the personnel are more than happy to educate and work with you at literally every phase of your decision-making process. All transacting is conducted professionally and the back-end running their business is incredibly well organized. If you extend a hand to them, they will give you one right back. This shop is boss and an excellent community partner, business, and place to visit. All Ive got to say ^_^
You can come here with no knowledge of bicycles and won’t be judged. Employees are helpful and greet everybody. Good prices and no funny business.
I loved the service! Your team gave my full-suspension Santa Cruz a great tune-up and added new platform pedals. Great work at a great price! Also love that you guys are dog-friendly.
Great shop with friendly staff. Used and new bikes, they have something for cyclists new and experieneced. Their mechanic realigned the rear triangle on an old road bike and its riding like new. A degree or two makes a difference, happy to come here again.
They were very patient and knowledge. Definitely plan on going there again for any other repairs.
I have a 70s road bike that I picked up on the cheap and am getting road-worthy. This shop was sort of on the way for my normal 5.5 mile bike commute, so I decided to stop in to see if they had 27x11/4 tires and tubes for a classic road bike. I told the clerk what I needed and she went to the back to get my tires, offering me several options, and I selected what I wanted from what she brought out. I had to bandoleer the tires over my shoulder for the 5 mile ride back to my house (not a big deal, but still requiring some careful riding to make sure they stayed in place). When I got home, I discovered that, contrary to my specifically expressed needs, the clerk had given me 700c tires (which are an inch too large for classic 10 speed rims). Needless to say, I was not pleased. I called the store to complain and the person I spoke to on the phone was quite cavalier about the problem (keeping in mind that I explained it was a 10 mile round trip ride for me to return the tires - I dont have access to a car right now), and referred to my complaint as a lamentation (full points for vocabulary, minus points for attitude).Keep in mind: 1) anyone claiming competent knowledge of bikes knows the difference between 27x11/4 and 700c tires 2) the tires are stored in the back and you have to tell the clerk what you need so s/he can fetch them for you 3) I was quite specific about the tire measurements.I see many reviews here stating how friendly and competent the staff are. My experience was not in keeping with those reviews (caveat: the clerk who waited on me in the store was quite friendly and personable).I was going to have this shop do the re-cabling, tuning and rim alignment on this bike but, in the immortal words of Peter Sellers: Not anymore.
I accidently left a 3 star review because my phone pocket dialed a review while test riding a bike that... I fell in love with, and now own. The staff is friendly, knowledgeable, and warm. HIGHLY RECOMMEND.
We rented bikes from Fairmount for a day-long ride. The staff were expert in assuring fit, helpful in provisioning - locks, water bottle holders, and a spare tube (fortunately unneeded!), and even installed our own pedals on the bikes for us. They also provided helpful route details and were very friendly, fun and accommodating. Their business hours are good too, with plenty of time for us to ride and return the bikes at a leisurely pace. Thanks Fairmount Bikes!
I want to love this shop. Its close to my house, they have everything I could need, and most of the staff are helpful and knowledgable. However, they employ the most pretentious bike mechanic in Philly. I will ride over to Trophy rather than deal with this guy.
Ive been to this shop a few times, and they were helpful (yet pricey) and kind every other time. My most recent interaction, however, was negative- noting the pretentious man with whom I returned an item. It doesnt necessarily deter, but be mindful of their customer service.
Great place. Friend. Good customer service. More bang for your buck! They trued my wheels, fixed my chain thingy, and adjusted my brakes for $10!! Would definitely recommend this place to the common commuter!!
Friendliest people on the planet. Very knowledgeable, helpful and absolutely no pressure as we shopped various bike shops. Plus the prices are great.
I think this might be the best bike shop on the east coast; its definitely the best I have been to. The caliber of expertise and the concern for the consumers wellbeing, financial and otherwise, is remarkable. They do such public good for the city that they should be a nonProfit
One of my favorite and best bike shops in Philly the tours rides are even more fun and exciting
Professional, efficient and knowledgeable. Will answer questions that might even take business away from them, which demonstrates ethical business practices we desperately need in this day and age.
Wow, beautiful day in Philly for a bike ride. Just discovered Fairmount Bicycles, and what a treat! Showed up, and within 10 minutes I was riding along on a hybrid through the streets. Easy access to Boathouse Row, where you can ride upstream along the greenway, or downstream into Center City. I was apprehensive about renting, since I am, admittedly, a bit of a bike snob. That being said, the bike was great for bumpy city streets, handled well. Breaks were in excellent shape, wheels were trued, and the gears were crisp on the shift. No complaints! Staff at check in and check out were friendly, efficient and knowledgeable. Ill be back next time I fly into Philly. Go for it!!!
Great service. We came with 8 people and they helped all of us get our bikes quick! Cheap price and it was a lovely experience.
Extremely friendly folks. I went with someone to buy a bike and the person that helped us out was very patient and knowledgeable. Would definitely go back.
Im new to Fairmount and was glad to see this shop open soon after I moved in. Got my annual tune-up there for less than at my home place last year. Did a good job on my short deadline. Inventory is scarce, but theyre working on it.
Ive been going to this shop for greater than three years now and Ive always loved the staff there and their customer service.Their knowledgeable, friendly and curious.Fairmount Bicycles rocks.
I purchased my first big boy bike at Fairmount Bicycles and have had it serviced there a few times. The staff is very helpful and on top of their game. I now handle mid-season service on my own, but I intend to keep using FB for the occasional (more major) service.
Fairmount Bicycle is the place to go. They know their stuff and patiently answer all of your questions. The occasional training seminars are great too!
The staff were extraordinarily friendly and got us on the road quickly with some very nice bicycles. We had some problems with our identification, but they sorted it all out for is. I would rent from Fairmount again before anywhere else.
Awesome shop and staff – totally saved me today - someone locked their U-lock through my gear cable on a bike rack so I could not take my bike off the rack – walked to the shop one of the mechanics, Dillon super sweet, walked back with me cut the cable, un-threaded it, re-threaded it and had me back on the road in under 10 minutes. They are the best!!
Reasonably priced, exceptional service that goes beyond what you pay for. Theyve helped me multiple times and have never tried to force-sell anything.
Outstanding customer service and pricingDidnt see this one coming😶 but I was Fooled Again definitely a go back to shop
This was such a great experience my daughter- needed her bike put together not only did these guys make it fast they were very friendly and polite!!
Check out the great Evelyn Hill Cycling shorts at Fairmount Bicycles. They fit and perform great in the saddle.
They are very friendly and competent !! They fixed my wifes gears in less then 15 minutes and did a perfect job ! I strongly recommend this bike shop for their services and quality repair.
Very good service and guiding experience. Very nice way of discovering the city. And the ride in the Wissahickon valley is a must!
Nice place. Well informed and helpful.
I love this bike shop. Great store. Wonderful staff.
Not very friendly staff - a little stand offish and arrogant
Great to work with. good advice. Highly recommended!
Staff is not very friendly and can be rather stuck up. I took an older bike there to be checked out after an accident. They determined that the front wheel was bent and needed to be replaced. They asked if I wanted to upgrade the wheel to something lighter & stronger. I declined, it was an old city bike and I was planning to get a new on the at the end of the summer. They gave me a quote of approx $50 for a basic replacement wheel. However, when I came back to pick up the bike, they tried to charge me oner $100 with tax. When I asked about the difference, they said they found a good deal on a better, lighter and stronger, wheel for $95, regularly $150, so they installed that wheel instead of the basic one. Despite me specifically turning down an offer to upgrade the wheel when I dropped the bike off. When I refused to pay for the upgrade they got very indignent with me. It was as if they couldnt understand why someone wouldnt want to upgrade a component of their bike. Only when I told them to either put the basic wheel on like they said, or give me the old wheel back and Id take it to Philly bikesmith did they have and do what they said they were going to do and charge me close to the correct amount. BTW, they ended up charging me $65 plus tax, they added service charges after the fact. I have never been and will never be back. It is well worth going the extra 3 blocks to a real bike shop at Philly Bikesmith.
Nice people fixed my bike the same day, called me when it was ready. fair prices.
A great bike shop. They are knowledgeable, without condescending and very eager to please.
I attended their Bicycle Maintenance Class, and Kyler did a great job helping us understand how to diagnose and troubleshoot some common bike problems.
Fairmount Bicycles is the best bike shop in the city! I adored the team of competent, dedicated and highly original guys whom you can trust your bike without hesitation!Apart from this fact Fairmount Bicycles organize amazing tours around the city. The route is very well planned. The guides are witty and knowledgable guys who will introduce you to the city from the best perspectives.Philadelphia is best to discover on bike! You see all the best the city has in just 3 hours. Its a mesmorising experince! Its almost next to impossible to fight the desire to rent the bike again and keep discovering the city over and over!
Fast, efficient and friendly service. A wonderful neighborhood shop!
I’ve been here a few times mostly with good results. After recently having a wheel trued, my rear derailer was knocked out of spec and wouldn’t shift properly. When I went back the following day to ask them to correct the issue they had caused, they charged me $10 for it. I was shocked that when I went to leave, I was asked to pay.I discussed with the employee (the one with the black dog) that it shifted smoothly before dropping it off. She told me she was charging me anyway, despite that I was buying a $90 helmet at the same time. After spending hundreds of dollars here, it’s a shame that I’ll have to go another shop. They are losing a lot of future business (i live 3 blocks away and own 3 bikes) over a $10 issue they caused.
Good bike shop that has fair prices and great hours.
Got a full tuneup, and some special stuff. Thanks so much to Fairmount Bikes!
They were very helpful and knowledge
Bad experience very very basic I wont spend another dollar in that store if I could help it..It is for white people thats what I got from It Brewery town bike shop is WAY WAY BETTER to bad different place different people..
Best bike shop in Philly, tell you what.Friendly staff, primo commuter-centric selection of bicycles, all the knick-knacks. Quick turnaround, fair prices, and community involvement. Its like, when some people go on vacation, they want to stay at the Marriott or the Four Seasons, with only the ~finest~ things. The Marriotts and the Four Seasons of the bicycle shop world exist in Philly, and you can go to them if thats your thing. But when I go on vacation, I want to sit on the porch of a Bed & Breakfast, sip coffee and have a nice chat with the cute old couple that decorated the place and has been running it for 30 years.Fairmount Bicycles is the Bed & Breakfast of the bicycle shop world. Well like, not literally, but you see what I mean.
They are truly the best around and great prices too
Awesome neighborhood shop, real reasonable prices for parts and labor. Glad these guys are here!
Super friendly and helpful people. They are willing to work with you on the price and wont treat you like an idiot if you dont know what you are talking about
I walked in 10-15min before closing time. I searched for a bike store and this had the best reviews and closest to me. Very decent selection of bikes, I was looking for a fixie, they brought out the one that I possibly wanted and brought out another build by Fyxation Eastside with bull horn handlebars under $600 price tag. I fell in love with the Fyxation bike I bought over $200 worth of accessories and they installed all of them no extra cost for labor (not to mention you get 20% off all the accessories). They have a really well functioning yet convenient phone mounts I recommend you grab one of those. I wish I can post a picture. I rode over 12 miles (1hr) back home from Philly to Oreland.
We rented 3 bikes from Fairmount Bicycle shop for 3 days & had a great experience trecking around Philedelphia, PA. Thexstaff was friendly, knowledgable & very helpful.
A great and friendly bike shop! My go to place to get any kind of maintenance done on my bike.
