I wish they accepted tips, Renee was so helpful yesterday and went out of her way to help me. I came in with a new to me Kodak Target Brownie six 20 (not a fancy camera by any means). She took the time to help me figure out what type and how to load the film - so far as to load the film for me. I didnt have time to walk around the store but was in awe at the number of older model cameras they have available. I live about an hour away but will definitely be back for the customer service but also to take a look at the merchandise.
These are awesome people. They love photography. Each employee was knowledgeable and kind. I even had my toddler in there and they were super patient.
Best place to get your film scanned in PDX for sure. Fast turnaround, sharp scans, and accurate colors.Really friendly, knowledgeable staff, with lots of experience.Go here if you want to get good photos.
Wonderful, friendly, helpful staff. While Im sure there are other film photography shops I could go to and get great service, nothing beats Blue Moon. Highly recommended their services. Besides, even if youre not into photography the store has an amazing collection of vintage film cameras that the staff would be more than happy to tell you the histories of. A Portland institution.
They were super helpful and knowledgeable. I stopped in to buy a point and shoot film camera and he brought out 3 options in my price range, explained their features and how to use them, and helped me pick between them. They are currently doing outside service where they bring options out to you, but the quality of service was excellent. Ill definitely come again for any camera needs.
Fantastic customer service with super knowledgeable help really sets Blue Moon apart from the competition. A top tier business and a gem for the city of portland.
The best service ever. Stop going to other places. Just one stop. Everything you need. Customer for life.
Best place in Portland to learn about camera, films, and just everything that are related to Photography. I come here to develop films, but also to purchase vintage film cameras and to learn how to use them as well. Super helpful staffs who are willing to answer any questions. Always come here and leave with a smile on my face. Phenomenal experience!
THIS PLACE HAS EVERYTHING I EVER DREAMED OF & MORE. I just went to explore my new home & see what my new film spot would be for buying & developing photos & cameras. My gawd, this place is heaven. I’ve seen stocks here i’ve never even heard of. I’ve never seen such a plethora of options. Didn’t mean to spend as much as I did but it might be a bit before I come back. Definitely my new plug. So excited. The woman who helped was super knowledgable, answered all of my questions & so nice.Superb service & extremely satisfied customer.
Best place to get vintage camera gear! Staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, and not at all pushy. They genuinely care about helping you get the most out of your camera.
Very friendly, extremely knowledgeable and experienced staff. Ready to help you have an amazing photography experience.
I waited to review Blue Moon until my film was developed and I got scans and my negatives back.Verdict: 💯💯Staff are super helpful and friendly. Everyone is obviously happy to be there, and knowledgeable about film.As this was my first roll of film in a new to me but very old camera, only half of the roll was actually good, so they only charged me for half a roll. So awesome!Ill choose blue moon again and again.
The staff really know what they are talking about and are very friendly. Went in hoping to find a super 8 and there wasnt one but they had so many other great and different film cameras but it wasnt a day to break the bank. Got a waterproof disposable camera since we were going to the beach and hadnt seen one of those in forever.
Best film shop in the PNW! Super friendly and knowledgeable staff! Cant wait to see the mural!
Words cannot express how great Blue Moon is. They employ expertly knowledgeable people to assist anyone, from the novice to the seasoned photographer. Their prices are fair, and you get a sense from the place and the people that they are genuinely passionate about passing on the love of analog photography to their clients.Arthur was extremely helpful in equipping me with everything I need to process film at home, and he devoted a great deal of time to answering my questions to make sure I could make proper use of what I was buying. Blue Moon is a Portland gem, and I know I’ll be coming back for years to come for all things photographica.
I purchased a 1917 Remington Model 10 Typewriter from them from North Carolina. And, their customer service (with multiple people) at every step of the way was truly fantastic! Since I wasnt local, I had a lot of questions and they happily answered them all and even emailed me pictures of specifics that I had inquired about. Great team of people... and, a really cool machine too!
When I visited Portland, it was exciting to see a real brick and Mortar film camera store again. When I needed to trade some camera for cash, i shipped them all the way across the country (Hartford Connecticut) to consign.I have some cognitive issues and became confused and offended by something in our contract, and they remained professional and courteous with me. The employee (David) doing the consignment did not lose patience, and gently walked me through the process. These are hardworking, trustworthy people. I will do business and support them as long as they operate.
I’ve never had the pleasure of visiting the actual location, but if I ever get the chance I will make sure to wear pants with really deep pockets so I can’t reach my wallet. What I have done is purchased film cameras and film from the online shop. They also did a fantastic repair/cla on a lens for me and it turned out great. From my experience everything about Blue Moon Camera is above and beyond your expectations in the absolute best way.
They have always handled my film well and are very accommodating if there are any problems. Two rolls of my film got stuck together during processing, and they were kind enough to not only save my pictures, but also send me scans free of charge so I could make sure they were all right (they were 🤗). Highly recommended.
The staff has been super helpful and gotten me everything i need. Every time Ive visited the store they always come ask what i need, and help me with the most honest answers. During the stay at home order, i had film developed through them and they communicated really well. I want to thank Tracy for helping me over the phone today!
Me and the girlfriend popped in to the shop after enjoying some brunch across the street at Johns. The salesman was super knowledgeable, approachable, and not pushy in the least. We ended up buying a canon film camera that you can use all of your lenses for your digital camera with. Very cool. I bought a coffee mug. Check it out
Were lucky to have this place here in Portland. Whether youre a beginner or a professional film shooter, the folks at Blue Moon have your back. The store itself has a magical feel to it when you walk in, or at least it does for me. They have a huge film selection, all sorts of cameras and lenses for sale, and theyre experts of film processing/scanning. Couldnt recommend Blue Moon enough.
Most awesome camera shop, I had some questions about a camera I hadn’t used in years and they were so helpful. Also their curbside pickup was so awesome! Thank you!
This is such a cool little shop!! Arthur was so great and patient with all our questions. He was very knowledgeable and friendly! We stopped in here, and coming from Los Angeles Im not used to feeling like I as a customer mattered. But here it was a different story. I was asked 3 times from 3 different people if I needed some help. I will definitely be returning here if I am ever back in town.
I was looking for a camera bag. I found one. This store is cool. It is for the photographer that still uses film. They have products to you do your own developing they also do developing in the store. Very busy which is good for them. They carry lenses, cameras the works anything you would want if you use a film camera. I was impressed.
What a wonderful kind caring group of people, Thank you so much for helping me and explaining the processes that you use, I will be recommending you highly
We were in Portland for the weekend and falling in love with this place is an understatement. They had cameras that were simply beautiful to look at and film! They also had camera straps, which I needed. Arthur helped us and he was knowledgeable and patient with all of my questions. He let me handle with some cameras and taught me about the way they work. So cool! In all my years of shooting photography, I have never been to a camera store that feels warm and inviting and a staff that is willing to help. Thank you Blue Moon Camera you have my business for life. They sell items online too and do repairs. Looking forward to my next visit online or in person. A Portland gem for sure.
Been going here since they opened, my film is always great. Ive sent my film to a few other places in Portland and it came back messed up. Blue moon is amazing, questions, printing, purchasing cameras... Alll amazing
I purchased one of their vintage typewriters for my wife. The customer service was top notch. They contacted us to tell us they would be double checking the machine before shipping it to be sure it was fully functioning. It was shipped quickly and packed extremely carefully. The typewriter is clean and working well, and the price was very reasonable. I would definitely buy frome them again.
Best service ever. Mike and Art are awesome and they remember your name. Best vintage camera selection ever. Fair pricing and just good honest people. Highly recommend shopping here and having your film developed here. Awesome.. G. Young.
Best Camera (film) Store Ive Ever Visited!Ive been taking photos for 8 years now and visited a lot of camera stores in my time. Especially since I use to live in another state. I can say with the upmost confidence that THIS camera store has been the best. First off, and in my opinion, most importantly the staff treats all skill levels of photographers with the same respect. This is a huge problem Ive encountered in many camera stores. Even with some years under my belt as a photographer, Ive found that the staff at camera stores to be very condescending and you feel patronized for asking any questions. The main point of going into a physical store location is to ask questions. what film would you suggest? ____ keeps happening, can you help me? etc. etc. When you come into Blue moon the staff are always happy to share ideas and experiences. It feels more like youre talking to a friend. I feel like its well known and agreed upon that photographers can be the snobbyiest people ever, especially when speaking to new photographers and can scare off those who are new to it. You will not find that attitude here.
Super friendly service, and its just a terrific store to browse. The salesman tested the shutter on my camera (no charge) and helped me understand it better. The people in the photo lab seem to enjoy their work because they’re always smiling whenever I come in.
I had terrific customer service today. The sales person spent a lot of time to help me on a really busy shopping day even though I was only looking for only low cost parts. Even better, he was friendly and informative the whole time. What a great shop.
Eclectic collection of cameras, weekly deals on film, optical enlargement and darkroom developing. Always helpful and knowledgeable. So much easier than developing on my own.
I live in Colorado but will wait and go out of my way to visit Blue Moon to shop for new glass or drop off film. The staff is extremely knowledgeable. They take the time to help you make a decision that is right for you while educating along the way.Simply the best and a must visit for any film photographer that finds themselves in Portland
Really great neighborhood camera shop! The staff are cordial and will take their time to help you regardless of how busy it is. The employees are passionate about cameras/film, and are genuinely interested helping you get what you are looking for!
I had a camera with sentimental value. two other shops said just toss it and get a new one on ebay. Blue moon understood, gave a great quote and time estimate, and did it for what they said when they said- all during the Covid shutdown. They are aweome and are now the FIRST place I will go!
Had very old film from my late mothers home. Probably taken in the 60s or 70s maybe 80s. Had archaic development. Very helpful and direct about cost and time. And what they could do. I appreciated it.
Always helpful staff
Just went here and they have the most helpful and kind staff!
I havent been in yet but I spoke on the phone with Jim about getting my film developed and scanned. What a nice guy! Great service, explained how they process photos and my options for reviewing my film. Plus he had a genuine interest in the photography group I started, which you dont find just anywhere.I cant wait to go in and meet them and get my film processed, 5 stars!
Blue Moon is my favorite store in Portland. I grew up shooting digital photography until a friend gifted me a 35mm Minolta X70. I went to Blue Moon with all of my initial questions and they were a huge help. Shortly there after, I completely ditched digital photography and stick entirely to film. Ive been a customer for Blue Moon for 3 years and have gone to the store at least once a week. They consistently are super professional and friendly in a genuine manner. Did I mention that they organize a photo show curated entirely of their customers work??? Who else does that?reviews are silly but if I was to give a google review for anywhere it would be Blue Moon. Go here!
Blue Moon Camera is possibly the best camera shop in existence. Seriously. Really friendly staff and completely dedicated to the art of making images. The focus seems to be on film equipment, which is awesome, but they dont judge. I walked in their once to get a strap for my DSLR and they were just as helpful. Great group of people!
I love this place! Very knowledgeable and helpful staff!
I just got my first camera and accidentally screwed the tripod attachment on WAY too tight. I went here and they not only fixed the issue, but they were so friendly and even gave me a new screw that will prevent the issue from happening again! Excellent customer service! I highly recommend this shop! Thanks for your help!
The staff is knowledgeable. The inventory is reasonable but not overwhelming. Its a bit like time travel. Brings back lots of memories. If you want to return to chemical photography this is clearly one off the places to help you do it. Reminds me of Old Sturbridge Village; its a working museum. Only have it four stars because they didnt have rentals. But they are working on it.
It was my first time buying a film camera SO I had no prior experience at all with this sort of camera. The people there helped me find one that fit me and I am grateful for that. I would recommend this place to literally everyone because I loved it so much.
I love this place! I never write reviews but I just had to for Blue Moon because Im so happy I went here! I had come in to try and sell my Hasselblad which also needed some work done. I was there for probably an hour, not because they were busy or anything (which they were, because theyre awesome) but because I had a great time talking with them about cameras and film. SO NICE. They sold my camera within a few weeks and I just got my check from them and Im super happy with what I got back. I wasnt expecting much since it wasnt in working condition when I dropped it off, but they fixed it, sold it, and sent me the check! They are super fair on their percentages and Im just super thrilled with this place. Definitely going back for all my film needs, its a bit of a drive for me, but Id rather drive however long to get here than go anywhere else :)
The level of service provided by Blue Moon is of the highest quality, the communication and politeness is exceptional, the staff are very knowledgable, helpful and friendly! Would highly recommend dealing with these guys! Made my purchase from the UK so simple and hassle free.......a great experience! Can not speak highly enough. Thank you.
Turns out this wasn’t the place I needed for some DSLR help, but the staff were super helpful with recommendations for my needs. I was very new to photography when I first went, but everyone I talked to was very patient and helpful. Amazing selection for such a compact space!
Eclectic camera shop with extremely knowledgeable and friendly staff. It has everything from hobbyist to pro. If you want to get into film photography, this is THE must stop shop in Portland.
This is just the spot. If you are a film geek you need this place. Great staff. Excellent prints, and its got a great vibe.
Full service Film-Camera-Developing store. Huge selection of all types od film cameras and even more lens. David was so friendly and knowledgeable. Such a jewl in the crown of the Northwest!! They have my business!!
I just got back my first 4x6 Color OPTICAL prints from blue moon camera. I cannot hold back giving this great absolutely wonderful place a FANTASTIC review...SUPERB results!, very helpful and genuine on the phone..AND last but not least ..OPTICAL PRINTS!! nothing can top a quality optical print. thank you for preserving true film process and such quality skill and craftsmanship in your prints. PLEASE DONT STOP! your dedication to the medium and true process is more than appreciated.
A fantastic little shop! Great developing and prints in my experience, with friendly and knowledgeable staff. Shout out to Zeb for understanding the struggles of a unique name when placing orders, wherever they may be.
This place is amazing! Coolest staff and phenomenal repair work!! Mike is the best! Just got back my Fm2 and its like a brand new camera!
An excellent camera store. Knowledgeable, friendly staff. Reasonable prices.
Its probably a good thing I waited so long to visit Blue Moon. There are far too many things for me to spend money on here. They carry Impossible film for your old Polaroid cameras, they carry old Polaroid cameras if you need one to go with your new Impossible film. Basically, if it has to do with film, they probably have it. Knowledgeable, friendly people behind the counter, lots of old cameras and accessories, outstanding film developing and printing. I dont shoot a lot of film, but when I do, I bring it here.
Everyone’s favorite local camera shop. Plenty of throwback gear, if you are working with film you need to be here.
Best customer service in town. Its obvious that the people who run the shop are very passionate about photography, and not just out for money. Nothing but good vibes here.
Not that this place needs any more 5 star reviews, but I couldnt resist. I dont profess to know a ton about photography or cameras, but when I stopped in today to see what could be done about my dysfunctional polaroid one step, one of the staff offered to help me out and took like 10 minutes trying to troubleshoot the cameras problems. Turns out, my cameras probably busted for good, but it wouldve taken me much longer to figure that out all by myself! Thanks so much yall.
This is the best place in Portland to take your film. While experimenting with 120 film and an old camera I wasnt so sure about, the staff here pulled me aside and gave me tips about what I was doing wrong and how to take better pictures with the camera. I dont think they usually have time for this sort of consultation, but it helped me out a lot.Their prices are a not exactly thrifty, but I never feel disappointed when I get my film back and see the results. I disagree with reviewers who say they are overpriced, because any lower priced options I have sought out in this city have been disappointing. You pay for what you get, and if you want great prints, go here.
Blue Moon cannot be beat for film camera selection or knowledgeable, passionate staff. They are also the only manufacturer of Minox film in America (if not the world). They also have a nice selection of typewriters.
Purchased a Hass here. Naturally I purchased the film and developed the film through Blue Moon. Best decision Ive ever made. They make the development process painless and are quite fast to return (Boise ID). Will be supporting this local business with all of my film needs.
Blue Moon is simply the best camera shop in Portland. Their incredibly friendly staff, very diverse product line (used and new, including some great antiques), and services stand apart from every other store in town.
Great customer service (thanks Arthur!) - we were trying our luck to find a film camera while on holidays and got just what we wanted. Great collection to check out here!
Great service! This is the place I develop all our film.
I bought some rolls of re-rolled 120 film (5 rolls Portra 160, 5 Rolls TMax 100) that was rolled onto 620 film spools suitable for a Kodak Medalist II. The service was excellent, and the results of the film were great. If it wasnt for the little plastic baggies that hold each roll being open giving away the fact that the film had been re-rolled, one could think that Kodak was making 620 again with their modern emulsions. Blue Moons work is *THAT* good.I do recommend if you have Blue Moon re-roll your film onto metal spools, to get the spools back when the film is developed. This way you can re-use the spools with subsequent rolls and avoid any metal spool fees. When Im done with my 10 rolls (I have 2 rolls of TMax 100 left), I will be ordering more! This place is truly top-shelf.
Amazing staff and easily the best camera shop in Portland. Huge selection of used gear ranging from hard to find Leica rangefinders to 8x10 view cameras. Best selection of film in town, and they all know how to use it.
Super smart staff, always freindly and more then willing to help you find the camera that is really going to work for you. The first camera I bought from them was a 40 minute conversation with them pushing me to the less expensive of the pair I was looking at. Ive never had a bad experience here.
The service here is top notch! Everyone is so helpful and friendly. My film processing time was even shorter than expected!
Great camera shop. Lab services too. Used equipment like you rarly see. Old school service and selection. 100 points every time.
Service, outstanding they greet me by name. these people care about photography as well are great dedicated photogeeks cant beat it. i wish it was more central but blue moon give me a reason to go to saint johns
Well knowledgeable and friendly staff. Wide selection of film photography equipments. If you are really into photography, Bluemoon camera is the place you should visit.
I like the knowledgeable staff and that they specialize in older camera gear and darkroom equipment. The staff isnt pushy either, they really help you answer any questions you have about the products.
The always helpful staff on odd questions I ask
The finest camera store for all things film, bar none.
Older Camera need fixing? These guys know all about it and can get you out and taking pictures again in short order. They also have a film development lab in house for your old 35mm canisters lying around. Not the cheapest place out there, but they have reasonable time expectations and a lot of equipment if youre looking to stock up.
Preserving cameras of yore. Hats off to jake. This unique shop is a museum and shop for camera lovers of all ages.
Absolutely THE place to go for all things film and camera related!! Great people!
Dedicated to film photography. You wont find digital here. Great lab develops color, B&W, and slide in house. Great selection of used gear.
Knowledgable staff but incredibly overpriced. Ill chalk that up to the hipsters coming in and paying that much for vintage cameras, so only one star off. Otherwise they have a good selection and can give good advice and develop film.
Blue Moon consistently goes above and beyond. Their staff knowledge and customer service are phenomenal! If youre shooting film, you probably already know about this gem. If youre new to the area, be sure to stop in!
This is a world class vintage camera store. They sell a huge range of used cameras..do black and white film dev and printing. They sell film. The print BnW digital images..anf I believe they do color too.
Great selection of cameras, film, bags, typewriters, they have it all!
Old school camera service and repair and custom photo processing located in downtown St. Johns. Youll also find old school SLRs for sale, pinhole cameras made of wood, photo magazines and more. On Street parking only.
Professional, knowledgeable staff, fantastic selection of film cameras and equipment for all formats. Like a candy store for phottags. On the other hand, also the most expensive place to have film developed.
Awesome place with very helpful and friendly staff!
They are extremely helpful. I shoot digital and wanted to try a new lens, they had one used. It has a little fungus on the lens in the description when I emailed them they gave me a full explanation of the lens. It sounded bad but was such a good price I had to go check it out. When I got to see the lens, to my untrained eye it didnt look bad at all. They let me try it on my camera and I saw no ill effects. I will be checking back with them for my next lens.
Knowledgeable, and super friendly. 10/10 would come back
Charming and well renowned analog film photography and camera shop. Friendly, knowledgable and personal customer service from experienced fellow photographers.
I have never before done business with a place whose employees seemed so genuinely delighted by my successes with the products they have sold me. They have also been Johnny on the spot in the midst of my difficulties. I recommend them highly, and I look forward to future business with them myself.
Knowledgeable friendly staff, they have ever camera thing you can think of
Come here for the quality (and friendly) service and incredible knowledge base.
If you do analog photography in Portland, just skip every other store. So friendly and helpful and just perfect.
Friendly staff, great prices, excellent service. This is one of the best camera shops I have ever been to!
