Stopped in to grab a cappuccino and was so pleased with the quick service, atmosphere and the beverage itself! The individual was working by themselves and tackled a line of ~6 people within minutes! They were positive and cheery, greeting each individual as they walked in. Very clean, had great mugs and other gift ideas for the coffee lover in your life! I also thoroughly enjoyed the blueberry doughnut that was also available on the menu π Im not from the area but when Im in town I will definitely make it a point to stop in and grab a cappuccino again!
Mocha was very good and well made. The americano was also made extremely well. Friendly service but definitely not quick. Prices were also quite steep even for a city.
We stopped at the Congress St location on a trip to Portland. The baristas weβre super friendly and really knowledgeable about all their coffees. The coffee I had was really amazing!!!
Better espresso and latte consistency and flavor profile compared to other coffee shops in the area. I had high expectations since they were awarded the Roaster of the year and they met my expectations. Also, friendly customer service..
Cute coffee spot! Tried their special of the day a purple cloud latte and it was heavenly!
Cute shop with amazing tea and food. With friendly baristas.
Nice staff. Coffee is good, but not exceptional.
Not to be hyperbolic but the people behind the counter could not be any nicer
Great coffee highly recommend the maple Sunday coffee and the Maine blueberry
Very friendly service!
It was a lot of fun! Ive been going here for years! Great coffee!
Honestly, if it wasnt for Coffee by Design, I would have never have had the courage to leave my wife and my anoying dead beat son Thomas
Loved the mocha latte
A little pricey, but the coffee is fantastic and the staff are always incredibly nice. its also the only place ive found where I am excited to try the specialty drinks. theyre always tasty, without fail
So happy that CBD is open again!
Have to take off a single star because my wife loves this cafe and its a little too cozy and small for my taste. She does want me to say that shes in love with the baked goods, as well!
Barista very disrespectful and rude. Their coffee was very bitter so I asked for another sugar. She basically threw it at me from under the counter and accidentally touched my hand. As soon as she did that she shuddered making a noise and tapped hand sanitizer while staring me down, then walked off. Extremely rude.
Its ok. I like to get grounds here, but not a fan of their prepared drinks. My friends disagree so its best to go and judge for yourself.
So far the best i mean the best coffee I ever had. I came for a mini vacation from NYC and this was my morning stop every day.
Refreshing & relaxing
I came here for a coffee. Left with baklava and a burrito. I would like to emphasize how clean this establishment is; it is spotless. It is procured in such a way that you can stay for a minute or all afternoon. Bonus for the Turkish coffee that was on point.
Love all there locations. Mostly Congress St. Coffee is wonderful. Staff are great and know their stuff. Fridays people play Chess in the back.Only thing is, its hard to find if youre on the same side of the street. The sign is hard to see. I recommend it to most people that ask who has best coffee.
They had the best blueberry scone I have ever had in my life!!
Great coffee, price, and service! This is my favorite coffee shop in Portland. They have a wide variety of flavors, which isnt always the case at coffee shops. They also have a good selection of baked goods.
Drip coffee is my ultimate go to, everywhere I go! This place is wonderful, and their coffee is great. A friend got the cold brew, and it was outstanding. Wonderful, helpful staff!
Baristas are always very friendly and make great drinks. Have never been disappointed. Cute, comfy shop nice to sit down and read or have a coffee and talk with a friend.
Coffee and pastries were awesome. The place could be a bit more cozy but I really recommend this place!
Cool, locally-owned and operated shop. Delicious fresh baked goods and sustainably produced and fair-traded coffees and teas. Wonderful atmosphere.
Just moved to portland and I have to say this is one of the best coffee shops I have ever been to. Very nice staff and fantastic coffee.
This might be the skinniest business in the city, so get ready to be close to your neighbors. Very enjoyable spot. Great place to get some work done.
Great selection on coffee. Also coffee to take home and brew.I dont know if they still have the Kenya AA, but I can promise you, once youve tried it, youll want it by the pound!
Great coffee. Nice atmosphere. A little pricy and parking is a pain.
This is a fantastic coffee shop that roasts their own coffee locally in Portland, Maine. A great place to meet friends for coffee, business and solo work. I personally get a ton of writing done here.
This is going to be my little go to place. I ordered a house coffee and it was a huge yummy cup! I also had the green iced tea with orange/amaretto. The people are Very Friendly and compassionate!
Best coffee in Portland
Coffee is decent. Staff is rude. I recommend the other locations over this one.
Delicious coffee and great decor! Good amount of seating as well.
Excellent third-wave coffee company. Knowledgeable staff, variety of available beans. Had a Costa Rica that was to die for! Could use a couch or two inside but otherwise a great experience.
Great coffee at CBD. I had cocoa on this visit and CBD is the kind of shop that steams milk fresh for each cup of cocoa makes an occasional treat a delight!
This a pretty swell little shop to get a small breakfast or a drink. I dont drink coffee so I cant comment on that, but I enjoy getting a cinnamon roll in the morning and watching the water out the window.
Upbeat, friendly employees and very tasy coffee. Outlets everywhere! None too cheap, but with good coffe and a good environment, it is worth it.
Had a great time while visiting town a few weeks ago. Friendly and helpful staff that gave us a lot of good info regarding Portland. Cant wait to go back!
Great coffee. Friendly, prompt service. Homogenous corporate environment. Boring
Definitely the safe bet coffee spot. Locally roasted, with local pastries. Those who are more into coffee might choose Tandem or Bard in Portland.
Great coffee, fast, friendly service, and a beautiful, sunny place to sit.
Alanzos Double Dark is the best dark roast in town
The tuxedo is my jam! Good people. Great coffee.
Great coffee and cust serv. Sometimes patrons get loud and not very considerate of others. Very loud! Had to wear earphones with very high volume so I could actually hear what I was listening to online. Otherwise when customers thin out, very relaxing place and could concentrate on what I was listening to.
Very good coffee shop. You can tell they know coffee when they sell equipment for the multiple ways of brewing coffee (Chemex, moka pot, V60, etc). I was introduced to there coffee during a recent trip and went here to buy some beans. Staff were very professional and friendly. If your in the area it is worth a visit.
Nice little coffee shop offering quality drinks and a few pastries. Service was good and so is their product.
Fantastic coffee!
This a coffee shop and the sell the coffee by the pound. Excellent coffees, a nice assortment of choices. About $15 a pound.
It can be hard to get a table for a group of four, but its feasible. Generally this CBD is better for singles or couples.
Counter Snippet:What would you like?Yeah, Ill have a bagel with cream cheese and an 8oz medium coffee, please.Would you like your bagel toasted?Yes, toasted. The man steps to his left at the counter from in front of the bagel case.Do you want that to go?Yes please.Thatll be four seventeen.Four seventeen..., the man mutters to himself as he fishes from his wallet a five dollar bill and gives it to the female clerk. The customer is waiting for his change fidgeting with coins he keeps in his wallet.Do you want your change? the clerk asks as she at first is about to hand coins to him, but hesitates withdrawing her hand as she asks the man. It seems she withdraws her hand to the man customer as he looks up from his wallet at the clerk.Yes. He puts out his right hand, palms the change and puts it into his wallet. He notices that he has a taxi coupon in his wallet when he is assessing his change. The clerk is slicing the bagel and places it in the toaster feed. She then tilts the spout of the coffee canister on the back wall counter adjacent to the toaster and fills an 8oz cup that she reached head high for on an above shelf. She places the cup of coffee at the front counter by the register in front of the customer.Does anybody here take taxis? he asks the clerk behind the counter now squatting to the lower shelf on the back wall beneath the upper shelves of sweet drink juice bottles with spouts, cups, coffee canisters, toaster and supplies.Taxi? Do you want me to call you a taxi? No. I have a coupon for a taxi. Does anybody here take taxis? he asks the clerk behind the counter peering round to see the female manager with a clipboard by the drink cooler near the front counter where he stands. The man notices that the manager doesnt seem to take notice of him.I dont know. Im not sure, she says still squatting behind the counter to the lower shelf looking up at him briefly.Well, do you take taxis? No, but I have a friend who takes them. Ill give it to them, she says as she stands up and comes two paces to the front counter. The man hands her the business card coupon. Here you go.He folds and puts his wallet into his left pocket stepping round to the side counter to wait for his bagel to toast. He waits for it to rotate through the toaster. The bagel slides the chute of the toaster. He notices it.The clerk swoops up the bagel, cream cheese packets, a napkin and a plastic knife and puts it all in a white paper bag folding the top of the bag over once while handing the customer the bag.I dont need a bag, the man says as he is unfolding it to grab the bagel. But, the cream cheese is in there. You mean you didnt spread the cream cheese? he asks as he looks in the bag.No.Will you spread the cream cheese? No. We dont do that here. It holds up the line.Oh, the man says noticing no line. Well, how am I going to spread the cream cheese?
Design by coffee
I was hoping for a rich and bitter espresso. I received a weak shot without a punch. Nice creme, but far from memorable.I enquired where the beans are sourced. All over the world. Many, many places.Come on guys, you promote yourself as a boutique coffee company. FFS, at least have bean origin and variety available somewhere. Some of us have a genuine interest in this stuff.
Coffee By Designs Congress Street location is a long narrow storefront in a building that used to be a church decades ago. The Congress Street entrance is wheel chair accessible. There is an entrance in the rear of the cafe, accessible from the parking lot of of Park street. All of your classic coffee drinks (espresso, cappuccino, americano, etc) are available, as well as just regular black coffee. Its maybe not so much a place for your triple coconut milk apple berry unicorn frozen shot bug juice coffee milkshake with sprinkles (the big-chain-that- shall-not-be-named is right down the block if thats your style.) They also serve doughnuts and sometimes other baked goods, but no real sandwiches or meals. There is counter seating on stools on the Congress Street side, and small tables in the back. I see people doing whatever it is that people do with laptops at coffee shops, some people having their coffee at the counter, and most customers getting drinks to go. Tea, chai, and hot chocolate are also available. A self serve cooler has juice and some local soft drinks and bottled water. The staff is friendly and personable, and usually there is enough to keep the line moving. The bathroom is locked and is for customers only.
One of the best cups of coffee Iβve had in a long while. Friendly staff and creative space.
Barista was SUPER awesome and had a great conversation with me and some friends.
The outside of my banana bread tasted burnt but the middle was delicious. The orange juice was great but that was in a sealed container
Awsome coffee shop great environment great coffee great people a returning customer #coffeebydesign
Great place to get quick coffee with a smile. I recommend this as an introduction to the cities saturated coffee scene.
Lots of selection, and a warm, inviting cafe space. I would not recommend the smoothies.
This was THE coffee place I lived at in college. Unique drinks, friendly staff, and cozy environment.
Not my type of coffee dont like burnt coffe nasty
Great coffee at good prices!!! Also nice location.
Portlands mini chain. Classic coffee shop feel. Good drinks, great staff.
No wifi, staff were rude, when asked for the bathroom key, it was thrown at me and I wasnt told where the bathroom was. Finally found it after trying the key on the third unmarked door. Bathroom was trashed, this store completely made me feel like an inconvenience.
Excellent coffee, bought a couple of single origin light roasts.
Best cup of coffee. Nice place to relax.
Great local coffee, but on the pricey side
A last resort for local coffee. There are many better options although theyre not the worst.
Guy barista was unbelievably rude and the coffee is not very good. Food is average at best.
Delicious coffee and a fresh lemon glazed donut make for good times.
Too expensive. Owners appear to be extremely rich, but attempt to portray themselves as some types of saviors for impoverished coffee farmers.
The combination of friendly/energetic baristas, great tasting coffee, and a fun atmosphere made for a great experience. Thanks for making my first trip to Portland enjoyable CBD!
The best coffee, the best service and a truly ace atmosphere, great for thinking, reading, studying, conversation and just plain chillin
Quiet seating in back, nice clean atmosphere to enjoy time with friends or alone
Great coffee and very convenient locations.
Delicious coffee, warm atmosphere, and exceptional customer service.
I highly recommend the coffee - the Kenya roast especially.
Great coffee and friendly employees
Nitro Cold Brew is unbelievably, incredibly good
The best place to sit and have coffee with a friend . Also the staff is always effecient in getting your coffee.
Absolutely lovely β€π§‘ππππ
Great coffee and some nice local snack options
Their chai is wonderful but the place is kind of small
Great local coffee shop with a friendly and attentive staff.
Great coffee. What youd want from a coffee shop.
Awesome coffee place. Definitely one of my favorites.
I
Good coffee and really friendly staff.
Really love this quirky little coffee shop.
Great coffee and great people.
