Great selection of genres, especially there international genre!!found this shop to be very helpful!!Eric is an amazing cat who knows his music. He doesnt charge as high as most record shops do. If you are ever in the Portland area and looking for world music, this would definitely be the first place to check out first. Thanks Eric
Small store with a great selection. They have a really great selection of used records that are always in good condition. They have a nice variety of international records and harder to find records. Their selection is very well curated. I’d highly recommend coming here!
Awesome selection of international music, really awesome staff. Will be back soon! 😁
Great selection of records and very reasonably priced.
Amazing place to find cassette decks! They also do repairs and happen to be some of the nicest people ever built! 🛠🙌🛠🙌
This place is epic and original . i love all the artist that support and help out around the world and their contribution to the music scene in Portland. recently picked up some mix tapes that were absolute fire and will be doing most of my vinyl shopping there from now on!
Got a Cramps album and a Charles Bradley LP, both of which I couldnt find elsewhere. Nice, eclectic selection!
Not a big store, but a great selection of hard to find records at really good prices. I wish that they were open more hours of the day and more days of the week, but definitely worth scheduling a visit to this record store :-)
Bought a vintage stereo receiver from Aaron. Hes got some great equipment at great prices and is super helpful and friendly. If youre looking for vintage equipment, check this place out for sure.
So rad. Never got any attitude, just chill folks and a super sweet selection. And you know this is legit because I even revealed to them that I’m an invading Californian and they were still totally cool in selling me some sick Wire vinyl. They even welcomed me to the nabe. I’m a forever fan.
I enjoy visiting this place. They always have something interesting when I go in.
The customer service here yesterday 11/1/20 was very very disappointing . My husband waited around for someone to just acknowledge him and instead they helped others and just ignored him. I really wish we experienced any of the nice things these reviews say but unfortunately we didn’t. They acted like they were too cool for school and weren’t friendly at all... and my husband is literally the nicest guy ever. We will never go here again or recommend this place to any friends.
I recently purchased a vintage record system from Aaron at Mississippi Records. The entire experience was an absolute pleasure. Not only did I find exactly what I wanted and hoped for, but the interactions with Aaron, from beginning to end, were fantastic. He is friendly, knowledgeable and kind. He listens very well and his expertise, though never flaunted, is undeniable. I didn’t feel stupid when I asked him questions either. It’s a shame I don’t need to buy other systems right now! I’ve already recommended him to a complete stranger at another record shop.I’m sure there are other good places to find a vintage record system, but I’m confident no one could be better than Aaron at Mississippi Records.
This is the only review Ive ever left for any business, but I thought compelled to share my excitement for this place. I just moved to Portland and have been slowly making my way through all of the local record stores. This one stands out with the best prices for both used and new vinyl. All of the used vinyl that I inspected and purchased were in excellent condition. That alone would be enough to encourage you to shop here, but they also represent their own label as well as other local and small independent labels across the country. I found a country, folk, yodeling compilation out of Africa that was fantastic. I mean, come on, thats crazy right?! Get out there and shop local!
Always stop here when I visit Portland. Never an issue with this store. Great prices, Great selections and Great vibes! 5 stars!
Awesome record store. Large variety of all music genres. Lots of local band vinyl.Recommended to stop in and check them out.
Small place but deceptively large selection of vinyl.
Great deals and awesome selection, the staff is very cool and helpful, go check this place out!
Exactly the shop I was looking for. Friendly and knowledgeable about vintage stereo equipment. Definitely will be back.
Love them
Very fair prices, very cool collection. Also check out the hifi place next door for turntables etc.
Analog Heaven. Secret happy place. Up there with #deetjensbigsurinn ;)
Always find more than I can afford! Awesome selection!
Mississippi Records for one, is different than Mississippi Studios. Didnt know that until we went there for the first time. We went on a Saturday and it was pretty busy. About 8 people in the store, which meant it was kinda hard to move around. Thats probably the most annoying thing about it, is that its so small inside. The selection was really good if youre looking for older and indie albums. We also found some awesome stuff in the junkstore downstairs. Id go for both if you can.
Great prices, made a deal on a used record and dude whose there is communicative as one should in that biz, peace!
Great space awesome people!
Focused more on older artists than modern music, which isnt bad. Also had lots of small local bands music on tape which is really cool. Found a record that I wanted but I didnt realize that the shop is cash only! Bummer!
This place has an amazing selection of hard to find records at really great prices.I was also very happy to find that they have a huge selection of cassette tape‘s. I’ve been shopping around town for a friend who collects them and cassette tapes are increasingly hard to fine. I can easily say this record store has the best selection of tapes
One of PDXs oldest and dearest record stores with a great selection of jazz and world artists. Not to mention plenty of speakers and vinyl equipment for sale as well. A must visit if youre in North Portland!
Great music. They used to have a one in one out program with casettes, just didnt see it this time. Still great store. Best employee picks
The best little record shop in PDX. Amazing selection, super knowledgeable.
Great little record shop. Surprising selection of soul and blues records. They also sell used audio equipment. And they were cash only at least when I went.
No idea why I waited so long to check this place out. One of my go to shops in town sold to a new owner and the selection changed.Cant express how good it felt to see Mississippis Zamrock selection. It was really a relief to see. Some really nice staples here, and plenty of harder to find stuff. Loved the local selections, too.Only thing I couldnt find was Big Star, but anyone that carries Witch has my vote.
Cute store. Very nice selection, with emphasis on folk, blues, and jazz. Great prices. Cash only, so keep that in mind.
MISSISSIPPI RECORDS REFLECTS MUSIC PASSION FOR ALL THINGS DIVERSE. I LOVE GOING THERE AND TALKING WITH THE OWNER. THE ATMOSPHERE MAKES ONE FEEL . AND MUSIC MAKES ME FEEL.
I went there to see my step moms (Toody) new store Junk store Cowboy which is located in the basement of Mississippi records. Both places are absolutely awesome. I would definitely recommend a visit!
Best vinyl store in Portland. They focus on music that doesnt suck. Eric is a great guy with impeccable taste.
Nice little shop with a good selection of various genres. Prices seem reasonable as well. Contrary to other reviews I didnt feel like the staff was particularly friendly. Maybe they were having a bad day.
Super sweet spot and I enjoyed looking at the albums and talking to the shop keeper.
Great atmosphere and neat section of albums and genres.
Very cool store, not the widest selection in terms of genre and the prices arent really a steal. However, very good soundtrack section with lots of Death Waltz. Worth checking out, I certainly scored.
I want to like Mississippi Records but they need to change their operations a little.Be warned, before going make sure you have cash - they dont accept card. This means if you go there and realize you dont have (enough) cash then you will have to go to the local ATM which charges a fee of $3. Why doesnt Mississippi Records accept cards and simply charge a 0.50¢ transaction fee, like you know, most small businesses. Id happily accept this compared to giving some private ATM my hard earned. On top of this, I bought a new record (out that week) and the record was both opened and the inner sleeve damaged. Do Mississippi Records only have single copies of new records? No back stock of sealed records to switch out with on purchase? There are equally comparable record stores nearby: Beacon Sound in the heart of Mississippi or Green Noise Records just a couple of blocks further up on Killingsworth (who had the same record, new, sealed and accepted cards - alas Id already purchased from Mississippi by then).BUT - they do have a great selection and for that they get 2 stars.
This place was rad. I went in with a question of whether they can fix players and the person who helped me out actually just showed me how to fix my player. And not in a douchebag man-splainy way! Very rad. I came home and now my record player works! Thanks!
Best record store Ive been to. Genuine music/cultural enthusiast owner. Honest, friendly, and invested in the community. You can find music here it is hard to find anywhere else.
Well-curated record store with lots of old jazz, soul, reggae, funk, rock etc records. Got some interesting unusual sounds vinyl too, plus spoken word. Fantastic vibe. Youll wanna be here forever
Great selection of records from many different eras and genres. Lots of gems in the $1 and free record bins! Great prices too, just remember its cash only!
Wouldnt have known it existed if someone hadnt pointed it out to me. Pretty historic feel to the building but they sure could do for an upgrade. It isnt a bad place but I felt like I was rummaging through my dads vynly records up in his attic, not at a legit business establishment.
My favorite record store in Portland. If you enjoy Blues, Soul, or international music, this place is about as good as it gets. They even have their own label and their releases are amazing. Im here at least once a week.
Great selection and decent prices. Does not take credit cards, so bring cash!
Excellent source for harder to find records, really good selection.
Nice place, pretty good selection and the most listening stations of any place Ive been in the area. I didnt buy anything as they didnt have the specific records I was looking for but the staff was nice and the store was clean and well organized.
Always a favorite place to visit!
Great selection of interesting music including many gems that they put together themselves.
These folks have a highly curated selection of vinyl. Good stuff. Cute lil pug too.
Excellent selection of Punk, Indie, Post-Modern, African Rock (from Ghana, Nigeria, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, and various parts of North and Eastern Africa); a decent selection of Metal, Hip Hop, and music from Brazil, Japan, and France; the Turkish section has some gems, some oddities, and a few misspelled US compilations of 70s Anadolu Rock; plus Gospel, Reggae, Jazz, ...
Tiny and cute. Amazing selection of vintage equipment.
The vibe of the store is really unique. A thin but full shelf of cassettes adorns the walls above the records. Its dimly lit and there are store puppies. Cash only, kindve inconvenient, but a Portland institution.
Great selection of a lot of different genres. Incredible staff!
Great selection of all different genres. Very helpful service.
Nice place abit hard to find. Saw the new dead moon book looks cool
Smaller but interesting selection. A bizarre range of stereos and record players for a premium price. **CASH ONLY** 👎🏼👎🏼
Hard to find little store. But had some cool stuff for good prices. Need to bring cash, no cards taken.
Fantastic record store didnt know they had some equipment as well. Great!
Nice selection, great prices.

Great selection of local items. Only a decent selection of everything else
Nice little store near my home that I can kill some time finding music.
No joke. This place isnt on Mississippi... Still good, though.
Incredible selection and fantastic prices!
Choice, choice records—an invaluable institution in our community.
Great place to sell quality records!
Great random selection, I usually end up spending to much time in here shopping
Fun stuff you cant find anywhere NOT EVEN THE INTERNET.
Great selection. Not very friendly or welcoming
Great interesting collection of records..
A Portland stalwart for blues, soul, folk etc. Cash only. Well curated
Massive 45 selection at great prices. Get their releases cheap too!
Cool independent neighborhood record store
Great friendly staff, added bonus of listening stations, good range of styles with quality selections of latin/afro/reggae and ska/and early american styles.
Specialty punk record store. Great selection of used turntables, speakers, and amplifiers.
The best records, and great books too!

Excellent and diverse selection of vinyl.
Best record store in pdx.
Great selection, but cash only FYI
Great selection of used records and CDs
