Amazing! Craig has a wonderful sense of humor & made me leave with a smile knowing I could switch up to any other violin in the first 30 days with 100% purchase payment. Very accommodating with quality well priced instruments. Highly recommend.
They have the best costumer service I’ve ever experienced. They went above and beyond my expectations.I live in Vancouver, WA and would highly recommend them to everyone.Great prices too!!
The owner was just fabulous!!! My son is new to the violin and he took his time to find what we were looking for and to make him comfortable. They have a rent to own option which is awesome!!! I would definitely recommend him!!!
Allego Violin may seem odd at first being located at the owners house, but then I remembered that Manselles back in Clackamas was very similar. So I emailed Craig and he helped me pick out a great violin for my wifes birthday present. I even provided a picture of a random case I liked and he provided me a matching case within our budget! The store is located in his house. Its a very sweet home filled to the brim with violins and cellos, it was very cool. He gave me assurance that I could bring back the violin and upgrade free of charge if my wife wanted the more expensive one. Turns out she loves her new violin and we havent had a need to return. I did accidently leave my receipt at the store, Craig was kind enough to snail mail it back to my house without any issues.
Craig was very helpful in getting us set up with a violin to rent, and then a few months later, to purchase. No upselling and fair prices. Highly recommend!
I came in to get a part to fix my cello bow, and Craig was very helpful and kind, and did it for me. I really enjoyed seeing the range of instrument sizes he has in his home shop, and talking with him. I didn’t purchase an instrument, but it seems like his prices are pretty accessible. I’m glad I found this shop!
I purchased a violin from this shop and it was a pleasant experience, even being a complete beginner.
Great deal on a cello for my daughter. We slowly purchased it over time and now own the cello. She outgrew it and they let us swap it for a new one still (for nominal fee) Thank you!
Great service.Very fair in prices.
Amazing service from Craig. I didnt realize he required appointments so I showed up with only a few seconds notice as I called right before I arrived. Firstly, he operates out of his home, but dont let that sway your initial impression as an entire room is dedicated to the instruments. Regardless of me arriving without prior appointment, he still welcomed me in. I had only came to look at the instruments because I wasnt sure what I was looking for in a cello, but his service and advice was so good, I ended up walking out with a cello haha. His prices are very good, Im currently renting a full sized cello for $40 a month. That includes the instrument, bow, a small amount of rosin, and soft case. He was also very willing to work with me explaining to me all my options if I decided to buy the instrument in the future.I had no idea what I was looking for when it came to what cello to get, but I gave him my rough criteria and he picked out just the right one for me. He let me play the instrument and since I didnt know how to play, I asked if he could play it for me so I could get a better idea of what the instrument really sounded like under better trained hands and he happily did so. The instrument was completely serviced and set up by Craig himself, he even upgraded the strings. Further servicing and small repairs (within reason - he offers optional insurance for extra which covers everything) would be handled by him during the rental period which was a big plus for me.Overall an A+++ experience here. Definitely recommend it!
Small home run business with high quality stringed instruments and service. Very nice and trustworthy owner. The sell and rent ti own and rent everything from 1/4 sized violins up to full size double bass.
Craig is fantastic and easy to work with. He goes out of his way to help get you, or your child, playing quickly.
I give a five-star to allegro violin and music. We went to Portland for a drama competition and forgot the violin case that was going to be used as a prop in the play. I started to call around to see if I can borrow one to use in the play and I spoke with Craig who was very nice to allow us to use one of his Vintage violin case. We borrowed it for 24 hours at no charge. We returned it back the next day and was impressed by his knowledge about violin, cello and up base musical instruments. We will for sure buy the next size up violin for our daughter when time come. We so appreciated his generosity in helping others. Since we live in Seattle, it is good to know that Craig ships his musical instruments and have a life long warranty replacement. Again we were very happy with our experience.
First time at this location and I am glad we stopped by. We purchased a Violin for my daughter for Orchestra and they are very affordable! We were able to try out each violin, compare prices and not feel pressured to choose one violin over the other. We left very satisfied and highly recommend anyone looking for a violin to make this place a priority stop before making a purchase anywhere else.
Great customer service! The owner went above and beyond not only when we purchased a cello, but when my daughter broke one of her pegs, he sent me a replacement right away. The price was also great. This is a true customer service orientated outfit where they are truly there to make sure the customer and or students are taken care of in the end. I drove 500 miles to get there and buy the cello and will defiantly be going back when we get our next instrument.
Craig was great, friendly, and knowledgeable. I was unaware that they operate by appointment so when I arrived (without an appointment) they werent there. However! Craig agreed to meet with me outside of their normal hours on the same day. This was a display of hospitality that I couldnt have imagined. I am happy to say that I was very comfortable with how I was treated and I definitely would recommend Allegro Violins to anyone who is interested in what they have to offer.
Craig really knows his stuff and was able to help me size my son for his first viola. Hes practicing almost every day and loves his instrument -- and I think thats because of Craigs work to get him the right instrument and have it set up and tuned properly (since my son hasnt learned that part of instrument care yet)I also feel that their prices are better than most any other shop in Portland (in terms of rent vs. rent to own as well as their trade-up policy). I think part of the reason theyre able to keep their prices down is that theyre not having to pay for a separate shop space. Very much recommended!
Extremely friendly and good service. Craig is knowledgeable about his products and answered all questions I had. Extremely good rates and it was a hassle free experience. I would recommend Allegro Violin & Music to anyone, especially beginners. He also recommends teachers which is nice.
Super helpful people. I needed a guitar pick but they don’t sell those. The guy was kind enough to give me one anyways. Thank you again. :)
The owner is nice and patient with beginners like me. He fielded all of my questions in a way that I could understand. His wife is equally kind. They really care about you having the right instrument for your needs. Making money seems to be secondary to that mission.
The owner of this place is a great guy and extremely helpful. The rent-to-own option is affordable and hassle-free! He wants to make learning an instrument obtainable for everyone. I highly recommend Allegro!
Craig was extremely accommodating when scheduling our appointment! He got my daughter set up with a beautiful cello, and made sure she was comfortable with it. He has a nice selection to choose from, and having someone local is very important to us. Thank you for all the time you spent with us on this big decision!
Not being a strings player or even a bit familiar, Craig has been patient and informative to help us on our road with our two girls. He has met me half way to his house at times to drop off or pick up and the last time we were at his place he even jumpstarted our van when the battery needed to be replaced. I have had teachers comment on the good quality of the instruments and ask where we got them, so I am confident that the equipment he provided was worth the money. He has fixed things, replaced things and sold violins to us for the past couple years and I have nothing but good things to say.
I am currently renting a violin from them and have to say, I couldnt have found a better place. Kind of threw me off at first because I live right around there, and I had no knowledge of any stores in the neighborhood when I first saw its placement on google maps, but he works out the home. Craig was a very nice guy and very helpful. They had a great selection, and I havent put this instrument down since I got it. I will probably being paying it off and keeping it, which is one of the options available. Thanks!
Extremely helpful and thoughtful service. I purchased the Vivo Prelude Viola and was pleased with the incredible value for the instrument. It was set up well with quality strings. Craig also gave me the option of purchasing an instrument which had a minor scratch if I wanted a free should rest. Needless to say, I was very pleased with the honesty and professionalism of the whole purchase.
What a nice experience in buying my first cello ! Craig answered all of my questions, showed a lot of experience and expertise, and has great values compared to what I saw on other sites. I really like the upgrade guarantee that allows me a full credit of my purchase towards another one. This is exactly what I look for when I choose a to buy a product or service from a boutique business. Great service and prices and personal attention backed by expert knowledge. Thanks Craig !
A bit out of the way but they were very friendly, helpful and accommodating in scheduling a time for me to come see the instruments. They sell the instruments out of their home and seem to be very knowledgeable having been in the business for awhile and ready to stand behind their instruments. One of the strings was slightly dented and I didnt notice ti ll I got home and they said they would change it for me whenever I could bring it back.
A great place to find just the right instrument for you.The owner will take the time to match you to the proper instrument and tune the setup to your needs. I look forward to doing further business with Allegro Violin and Music.
A hidden gem on the west side. There is no storefront, he works out of his home, but dont be fooled. Expenses are lower and prices reflect that. Service is top-notch. We rented a 1/2 size prelude violin for over a year. The instrument was provided in new condition and *beautiful*. Ive had at least two of our Suzuki teachers comment on both the high quality sound and appearance of the violin. Size upgrades are included at no charge and I think are only $35 if you had purchased it. We ended up purchasing the 3/4 size from Craig. He works hard going the extra mile, making sure you feel good about the transaction (i.e. he threw in a set of new higher quality strings for the purchase) Very competitive prices compared to the shops with storefronts and employees. Thanks Craig, well be back when its time for a full-size!
I started learning to play the cello as an adult about a month ago. When calling around, I landed on Allegro Violin and Music for several reasons. It was close to me on the west side and the price was more than reasonable. Compared to other shops in Portland and the metro area, Craig offers very affordable instrument rentals. I rented a 4/4 cello for $47 a month, with only $70 deposit that included a comprehensive service plan that even covers broken strings! I wasnt able to find this anywhere else I looked (More on this later). I could have gone even more economical, down to about $35 p/mo, which is really good for a cello. For not even being sure I was going to stick with the cello, Craigs plan was perfect for me, requiring only minimal deposit and straight rental, with no minimal rental period.Craig is very professional and available. As an example, I was practicing one night around 8:30 pm. While tuning, I broke the A string. I called Craig, fully expecting to be leaving a voicemail to set up a repair appointment, but he actually answered the phone! He even offered to have me come by that night for the repair. I ended up taking it in the next day and he replaced the string with no questions asked. That being said, the instrument itself was...passable. This would be my only complaint, but I would say the instrument was on par with the price I was paying. The strings were not of the highest quality, but I was able to get decent enough sound with my lessons and practice to decide Im going to stick with it.In the end, I decided to rent a higher quality instrument from a different shop. Craig returned my deposit with no hassle and wished me well. Ill be forking over more $ for my new cello rental and I already feel adrift without Craigs unparalleled service/repair plan and customer service. Id definitely still be renting from Craig if he had some higher quality cello rentals and hope he invests in some in the future. If youre a beginner cellist like me and want to try it out with minimal initial investment, Id highly recommend giving Allegro Violin and Music a call.
I came to get a my sons violin strings replaced and Craig was very informative and professional. Bonus- it cost less than I expected since Craig found most of the strings in with the violin 🤗
Craig was very kind, patient, and helpful.Id been interested in trying my hand at cello, stumbling across this shop via google. I called up, made an appointment, and showed up at this shop-in-house setup. An entire room filled with violins, cellos, and even a couple double bass greeted me. He was knowledgeable, very much into/interested (not apathetic/just any job), and not pushy to sell, or sell up, in the slightest. On the contrary, he was patient with my semi-undirected questions and ignorance, and shared a bit of background on the shop, the instruments, and himself. Good times - highly recommended if youre in the market.
Super helpful people. Very reasonable and family owned business.
Wonderful shop with a wide selection of student and intermediate level violins/cellos. Craig was very helpful in helping me pick out my first violin (the Scott Cao 017), which sounds absolutely amazing for the price point. He offeres a rental program with a minimum of 3 months, which essentially allows you to try out an instrument risk-free. Furthermore, he offers a trade in program if you wish to eventually upgrade your violin. His stock is competitively priced, and he was happy to let me try out every violin in his shop. I would certainly shop here again, and most likely will! You should definitely go here for all your string instrument needs...it’s a great, local business with great service and great prices!
My wife and I did a rent to own for a violin and cello. Great options!
Craig does more than fix your violin; he fixes your life. Merely 1 week ago I was homeless and hungry, and thanks to Allegro Im now the CEO of a multi-million dollar corporation. Cant recommend this place enough!
The service at Allegro Violins is top of the line. They have a very good selection of instruments so both the beginner and professional can find what they need. Craig was wonderful to work with. After I brought my cello home and promptly broke a string (a terrifying experience for a beginner) Craig was happy to restring my instrument. After my bow started falling apart while playing (the frog would completely pop off of the wood) Craig promptly replaced it.The shop is run out of Craigs home and is by appointment only, but Ive found he is very flexible and easy to get in touch with. His prices are very reasonable, and you dont find service like this just anywhere. Not only will I be recommending Allegro to anyone in the market for a stringed instrument, Ill be going back myself for strings and to eventually upgrade my instrument (he has a very good trade in program).
Very competitive pricing for rental. Owner takes time to make sure kids develop appreciation and interest in learning to play.
Allegro is great! Craig was easy to work with and is truly passionate about what he does.
I was so happy to find Allegro in the North West area. Craig is really a nice guy. I called him first to check whether he does the rehairing job. Since he does not, he referred me to a shop in downtown Beaverton. I also asked him to look at my kids violins and advised whether they are in good shape. He spent more than half an hour with me, pointing the good and bad things on the violins, showing me better violins from his shop for intermediate students, giving advice... for free of charge. I am so thankful to his help and highly recommend this gentleman.
I enjoyed talking with them. Very helpful!!
Great place for great quality instruments
I had been there to buy strings for violin and the gentleman was very helpful and great service.
Had a wonderful experience! would definitely return
Super nice and helpful.
Nice people
Very knowledgeable
The teacher is very kind and patient ... he loves what he does
